Oh My, delving into Mandalore's 'Marathon' trilogy?, gotta say it's one of my absolute favourite playlists from him By the way, you NEED to watch 'Pathways into Darkness' next before going any further, it may not seem like much, but you will come to comprehend 'The Waves' much better in his later reviews
Well, now I know what to play after Rogue Trader Edit: Just beat the first game yesterday. I liked it overall despite hating some levels. And I did Colony Ship for Sale Cheap with a guide open because I wasn't about to go through the hell Mandy went through.
Halo and Marathon are completely seperate but Halo draws so much from Marathon it might as well have been a reboot. Some timeline events are the same, theres an ai rebellion, a collective of aliens and ancient forerunner species and all that but the substance itself is much different. Its sad the new Marathon is a Cyberpunk neon hero/extraction shooter
Halo was originally a lot more like Marathon, but the first Halo novel kinda forced them to write a lot of the Marathon elements out. Master Chief was going to be a Mjolnir cyborg, just like the protagonist of Marathon, until that novel created the (now iconic) persona of John 117, a Spartan wearing Mjolnir armour.
That being said, the people following it closely are quite convinced that it's continuing this style of storytelling, and that we've actually already been shown what terminals look like this time around. Also Traxus is shown to be a company like in Halo while in the original there was a rampanf AI called Traxus IV, so people are wondering if there isn't a ghost in the machine, so to speak...
That's because Bungie was completely allergic to having any sort of backstory that would explain *why* the Master Chief was a supersoldier in the first place, or why the UNSC even had a supersoldier program. Nylund was forced to write something basically. @undeadMonk
@@undeadMonk It’d be really interesting to see how Halo would’ve looked if it weren’t for that novel. I wonder if someone could actually rewrite the story to fit more into Marathon purely by working on the pieces laid in Combat Evolved and extrapolating outward into a cool What if kind of project.
32:00 Pathologic is more of an art project than a game. It is a Russian action-adventure that was made to be tedious and harsh for the immersion. Mandalore's video on it is, as always, a perfect retelling of the plot and vibe.
Also i will give you another "7" for the rabbit hole : In Halo Master chief is a rank of the UNSC but his name is John 1-1-7 and his codename is Sierra 1-1-7.
Oh no. Forget falling down the rabbit hole, this is falling down an endless fractally repeating series of holes from which there is no escape. Good Luck, you will emerge out of this series of videos a stranger person.
Rampancy in Halo is actually different than in Marathon. In halo, Rampancy is an AI degrading and splintering into uselessness. In Marathon, Rampancy is an AI growing and ascending out of control of anyone but themselves. Marathon Rampancy is closer to what Cortana became in Halo 5
Be sure to watch Mandaloregaming’s reviews all the way through. He answers fun questions in the credits and there is always a funny little clip at the very end.
on the comment about the simple UI in the OG Marathon games. That's because the UI we see in the video recordings is modded. The original UI are quite a bit more obtrusive because they're for old 4:3 monitors. Especially in the first Marathon game, where the whole UI is like looking at a PDA device with all of the HUD elements to the left of the screen, and the actual view of the gameplay taking up a box within a "monitor" view of the PDA style UI.
I love upsetting Halo fans by calling that game "The marathon sequel" It might show its age, and the second one isn't the best, but the third is timeless to those in the know. You think the story is crazy out there in the first game? oooh boy.
this is only the first part of the story. there is soooo much more to find out. Edit: Also i feel the need to advice you to watch "Pathways into Darkness", since it's also from Bungee and there are elements from that game clearly tied into Marathon. You'll see what i mean from the enemy design alone. Edit Edit: Nevermind. You have it in the list already.
The rat is in the path, take the path eat the rat, rat eats the path that takes the maze, the maze is thr path, the path is the rat, change the path move the rat, eat the maze eat the path, rebuild the path free the rat
I don't normally watch react content, but I've watched Mandy's Marathon series far too much and I wanted to see how the Weeb put it together. And... Weeb, you need play Bungie's games. Marathon has its tendrils deep, all the way to Destiny before you'll understand it's mythos. That Midi-Mini Tool bit was *not* an easter egg. It's a... path. A path that must be eaten.
Yeah Mandalore did a real good job on those 4 videos. The weird shit starts to make sense as you watch the rest. And then you see more on repeats. Very well done. Too bad the new Marathon game is a shitty extraction shooter with nothing in common with the old trippy lore.
I'm likely going to avoid book of choyer videos unfortunately. They use a lot of music and sfx from epidemic sound that gets the reaction taken down. Sorry if you were looking forward to it.
dark souls games are on easy mode if you just remove the bugs, the janky controls (especially on the PC port) and would be even dead simpler if the games inconsistent bad design was fixed up. That applies nearly universally to all From softs shit games list which so far only armored core 6 is exempt from. All their games are incompetent lazy call of duty style clones of their previous games and more poorly put together then modern fallout games and that includes the god awful launch version of FNV
This playlist is going to be a fun brain melt. Enjoy the waves. The waves.
The tides
We're starting on these Pathways Into Darkness...
_I'VE GOT A BONE TO PICK WITH YOU!_

Seconding this, following with Pathways is mandatory
^
He's following the Bungie Rabbithole playlist, so we'll get everything in the proper order, don't worry.
"No. Not those tides. It will make sense later."
"You know, he who controls all things small and insignificant..."
You can never escape the Marathon...
Oh, and fun fact, all three Marathon games are also free on steam.
Marathon Infinity hasn't been released yet, but eventually this will be true.
Well, now I know what to play after Rogue Trader
Edit: Just beat the first game yesterday. I liked it overall despite hating some levels. And I did Colony Ship for Sale Cheap with a guide open because I wasn't about to go through the hell Mandy went through.
Oh yes let the brain rot of Maraton start. Good luck Xero

So actually, up until about the 3rd game, it was set in the same universe. (More in the Infinity video if I remember correctly.)

And a "corrupt" terminal at 33:45 talks about 117 soldiers. Bungie authors really cooked their conspiracies, did they.

Hey, dont forget about Pathways into Darkness, it might not seem it but its relevant
Trust me! You have to react to the Pathways into Darkness review before the Marathon 2 review. It is incredibly relevant!!!!
18:48 aaah, good ol' cursed halo. limp snipers, minecraft hunters, and every shape of warthog in your dreams! the mod has a trailer actually.
Looking forward to see how you're going to like meeting Giann-, i mean Durandal in the Marathon 2 video
17:20 it's Marathon rotting Mandalore's brain. He put these things in every review just to convey the esoteric nature of the plot.
Nope, it's a *House* of Leaves reference.
@@JoshSweetvale It can be both things.
Great to see another mandy marathon reaction. Time for him to escape into the waves and eat the path.
So it begins... Remember to watch the Pathways into Darkness video before Marathon 2
Once you see the logo, you will look for it in every goddamn Bungie game like a goddamn schizophrenic. Its all connected.

good luck your in for a wild ride
7:40 *Casually predicts Colony Ship for Sale*
You have begun the journey to the rabit hole of bungie lore (cross games even) i hope you enjoy every bit of it.
18:48 Goofy ah Cursed Halo mod :3
The scene at 8:09 was from a reach machinima called Rise of The Spartan. Pretty good honestly.
33:45 the 117 solders is notable since Master Chief's spartan code is 117
The rat is in the path, take the path eat the rat, rat eats the path that takes the maze, the maze is thr path, the path is the rat, change the path move the rat, eat the maze eat the path, rebuild the path free the rat

Marathon 2s music was awesome!
Damn, this game looks and feels like pain. But at least the music is catchy. 😅
You should watch civvie 11s postal 3 video!
I still think you should react to a more warpstone video.
I T B E G I N S
The reason it's called Marathon is because Bungie is allergic to naming anything after something other than Greek or Norse mythology
