i used cornmeal for akamu and it came out nice, i will use this one whenever i cant find cornmeal or dry corn, i dont need to be running around looking for dried corn, thanks for sharing
You are welcome Paschlina. So with the corn meal, you soak it for some time then sieve? I use corn starch/corn flour then add lemon for the sour taste. LOL I have a video for that >> th-cam.com/video/xb6EAqnLIh0/w-d-xo.html
this worked pretty well (and was very useful, with popcorn being readily available here as opposed to regular dried corn)! thanks a lot for the insight! but man, this thing is hard, it took 5 good days for it to get just a little bit softer.
I found out a method that is far easier. Just buy corn flour and soak for 3 to 4 days and ur Akaum is ready. No need to sieve or blend and u get the unique sourness of Akamu with it. I am not talking about the refined cornflour in tins o. U could also use cornmeal but because it is coarse u will have to blend thoroughly and or sieve and u av ur Akamu.
It sounds easy right? I have a video for how I use corn flour to make this but there are still people who cannot buy the fine corn flour where they live and they keep asking for this popcorn experiment and my opinion on it.
u are a beautiful woman, it's my first time of seeing your face. whaooo... u look good, intelligent n multi-talented too. God bless u my sister... thanks for sharing your talents with us
You actually did a good job wow. Thanks for always sharing your experiments with us. Please wanted to know if i buy fresh corn, and dry it up during the summer. Then during the fall take it out of the cob and follow the same process, do you think it will be okay?
I haven't seen any of your videos before but now I'm hooked. I am glad you tried this popcorn akamu but I am disappointed with the low yield. Do you think coarsely ground corn meal (like for making Southern cornbread) can be used? It's made from regular corn so it should have more starch, abi? Thanks!
use AUNT JEMIMA CORN MEAL... their brand uses raw not cooked corn.. 2ndly I mix mine with a cans of Hominy which is the starchy and is exactly like the Nigerian corn we have back home
Chai VTS don carry come ooo. i wonder what else you wish yo know about me that is not already out there, eh? LOL Thanks for the love, you are awesome! Ok, check this playlist: it's all there, if you don't see the info you need then we can talk about that Q&A :D: th-cam.com/play/PLuj-BP3hVVeQsbLskR16dopEZGDm6p-pD.html
hahaha nne ifugonu ya! Too much washing up et al. But I cheated with the sieving shaa hence saving time and effort there. When people send me on these experiments, they do not know what I go through to make the videos.
Hi maam..what type of blender do u use....mine spoilt my two blenders I am using the normal blender..and I have soaked it for 5 days it's still string..I am using the pop corn corn cos I didn't get the normal corn here
Thanks for this video, I v a little baby but because we r not in Nigeria I find it difficult with all this oyibo foods unlike Africa that thère is a lot of food......Tanks once again
Thanks Dear. I try it before but I only allow it to set down and I drain the water, i didn't pour it on muslin bag so when I prepared it, it was thick just to go get my phone and take a pic of it to send to you. just return back it has turn watery. LOL.. Am going to try it again with your method. Thanks
Hi Flo and thanks for your videos , quite enlightening. Pleas can you show us what we can add to make this pap have a sour taste to the kind of corn we have around us in US... it doesn't tastes sour like Nigerian corn, I have done it so many times at homes with no taste, but if you buy from Nigeria's stores it has the taste and if you ask the makers what they add to make it sour, they don't want to tell your, just same African mentality, not knowing they can make money nowadays with their ideas.. please help me if you can , thanks
Nwanem I tried this popcorn thing oo and soad for almost six days. It was so so so tough chai. So tough my blender is broken. I'm so heartbroken. I will let you know if I got the consistency.
can I use my normal blender to grind normal maize for Akamu ( because the conventional grinder is not available where i am), but the maize is available
Yes, use a kitchen blender but to be safe, make sure the blender has at least 500W power. After soaking, pop corn is harder than normal akamu corn and this kitchen blender did a good job of blending it. This blender has 850W power though. Watch the following video where I prepared the akamu with the normal corn for akamu: th-cam.com/video/BW8V3V0kFcQ/w-d-xo.html
You can buy it from a fabric shop. Tell them you need a chiffon cloth or show them this video. In Nigeria, it is sold in the market, ask those selling akamu in the market for where you can buy it.
Wow this was indeed so helpful I haven’t eaten akamu in over 10year so am definitely trying this. Thanks

pls how did you do it...the processes you took with the cornmeal.? thanks
@@Feomao how long soaking? for fermentation to kick in properly?

Jelilat Adebayo i prefer the corn flour, u can add ginger to the cornflour while soaking it...to bring out the sour taste.

No. If prepared akamu freezes, it becomes a mess.
