    Thank you for always breaking down each character's literal meaning in sentences and info about the words and why certain characters were chosen to make it up. It's so fascinating.

    I like this video because simplified and traditional version of Chinese characters are both shown. I hope that all of your videos can be shown like this as I am teaching simplified Chinese to my students. I love your program!

    Great comment about the half speed function of youtube. Didn't know that. This helps to rewind the lessons again and hear them in half speed! Thank you Ben! The lessons are awesome and I like the practical character of each lesson.

    A Taiwanese friend of mine translates "jiu" as "therefore", or maybe "and then". These lessons are getting better and better. I feel that I learned even more from this lesson than previous ones.

    • @learnchinesenow

      TheDrakon "and then" is a good translation for this particular meaning of jiu

    • @TheDrakon
      @TheDrakon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Good to know. She also struggles with how to translate it. Sometimes she just calls it "connecting word".

    I like to think of 就 as meaning "then" or "at that point in time." So in my head “就在马路右边” translates as "it is then on the right side of the road."

    2:40 - If I were standing and listening intently to the directions, and they started with "zai (fourth tone) 再" - I would totally assume in my brain that it was "zai (fourth tone) 在" and that they were saying "here/there/at that place" instead of "again" and I would probably be totally thrown off from the rest of the directions... hmmm....

    到了十字路口
    Should the 了 in this sentence be followed by 就 in the next sentence.
    It's been a year since my classroom learning days and I remember learning some structure for future tense which went:
    我吃了饭就出去。
    I'll go out after I've eaten.
    Is that the same structure as if you wanted to say:
    Once you have arrived at the intersection, turn left and walk 10 metres
    thanks again for video
