I think between Taki and Retro Game Corps review on this, they have killed a lot of potential sales. (But also saving people money 😁) But lets be honest, Anbernic only have themselves to blame for that.
Just a guess... but the screen being brighter when shut down is probably because they're keeping it dim to preserve battery. This might also explain the slowdown when pressing no buttons. They might have assumed that they could lower clock speeds when the player isn't pressing a button to save power. They probably realized that these other handhelds are starting to get better battery life and this is the only way they can use up their stock of cheap batteries. I was hoping anbernic would offer competitors to the RP2+ and Odin, but I guess that just doesn't fit their business model at all. They would rather buy up a bunch of chips, batteries, and screens at the cheapest price and throw together a mediocre product than design a product around consumer expectations. You can tell Taki is giving zero F's with this review. Even though this review is well done and completely professional, this is what a non-biased review looks like. It's unfortunate that Anbernic has black listed him.
When a company blacklists someone for an honest review (cough cough Disney) I typically don’t buy anything from them bc it’s obvious “reviews” are just shilling praise from fear of saying anything negative.
That review wasn't even that bad, Anbernic out there with more competition and decided to blacklist one of the people that most consistently remind people that they exist.
So a person gives you an honest take on your product, provides constructive criticism/advice so that you can improve and see more sales, and you blacklist them because you as a company can't handle it. I'll continue see what they bring to the table but I'm really dissapointed and have lost some respect.
And you know what they don't understand. Steam Deck is here. Steam Deck is a serious threat. Especially when it starts getting in the hands of people regularly. They can't come out of the game with inferior product anymore. Those days are over for Anbernic and the rest of them. Valve changed everything
@@handsomedubbledee it’s even worse. The Steamdeck while being x86 based makes the life of companies like Aya or GPD a lot more complicated while also kinda bleeding into the high end emulation market. Over on the ARM side of things Retroid showed what you can do for a low price(even with a great and improving UI) and Ayn took the high performance field and placed an almost perfect product there. Air got thin and Anber… as well as Powkiddy need to step up their game.
@@Thunderhawk8472 exactly. With the Aya, it's more powerful than Steam Deck but it's not accessible to everybody because of the price. What average customer paying a over a 1000 right off the bat. You can go with the lowest Steam Deck and you still get a similar experience. I do not see Steam Deck being beaten in the market after October. Just don't see it
Yeah after seeing this I’m definitely avoiding Anbernic systems for the foreseeable future. I’m so glad I bought a Retroid Pocket 2+, and I’m gonna be preordering an Ayn Odin Lite. Love your content!
The panel is probably slanted up because of a required draft angle for the plastic mold of the part. You hide this or work around by using multiple parts but all molds need draft angles.
These honest reviews are really nice to have around and I appreciate the no BS. As for this device itself, it's disappointing seeing a handheld that's about $50-60 USD more than the RP2+ running worse than it. Sure the screen is bigger, but the color isn't as good and it's not as bright. Having two real sticks as opposed to one stick and a slider is also nice, but the only games that would run well on either this or the RP2+ that would make extensive use of both sticks is a handful of PS1 games. Glad I went with the RP2+ instead. It may have taken 3 months for mine to be delivered but I'm more than satisfied with its performance and overall quality.
Interestingly, the issue with the game running slow until buttons are pressed, is similar to an issue I found on the AYN Odin, but rather than button presses causing a speed up, it happened when touching or moving your finger around on the touch screen, letting go of the screen causes the game speed to drop again to around 70-80%, though this didn't happen on every game, but was present on multiple different emulators such as dolphin and aetherx2....
@@bulletpunch9317 Touch boost huh? Never heard of that - but would make sense I suppose, if not ideal in every situation, such as emulation etc.... Thanks for the info.
ive been watching these reviews on retro game handhelds, holding out to buy one that actually competes with what i have right now (the vita 1000) and its pretty funny that this is the first oled console to come out when the vita did it 10 years ago lol. vita+henkaku still seems to be the best bet for an emulator handheld with real psp support
Agreed, similar price you can just buy a Vita and get native PSP and PSX support, with good emulation up to 16 bit era. The only issue with emulation in Retroarch is the screen resolution doesn’t scale well with most consoles so you need to use shaders or shrink it with integer scaling to make the pixels look better
After hearing you got blacklisted I’m for sure not purchasing any anberbic device anytime soon. Not like they anything worth buying anyway with the competition nowadays. Shame really, I loved my 351 but the company has been downhill since. On a plus side, I’m loving my Odin so thank you Taki for putting me on that instead.
Anbernic advertises it as a PSP emulator, but it can barely handle 10% of it's game library. Save your money and go for Odin Pro when it goes on retail.
While I agree with skipping the RG503, I’m not sure the Odin Pro is worth it at this point. By the time they can deliver for any new orders (June? July? August?) will it still be relevant? At the rate these handhelds keep coming out, I like to believe that we will see something that surpasses the Odin Pro by Q3/Q4. That said, I still want an Odin Pro 😰
@@therealmakmillion I want something like an Odin Pro, but I think the Snap 845 is kinda outdated for it's price. So like a good old dude, I will wait until a snap 888 or G1 hits the mobile handheld scene.
The RK3566 can definitely handle a solid chunk of PSP emulation if the RK3326 can handle at least 70% of the PSP games you throw at it. However with this being said the RG503 might be another RG300X in my view.
I currently own a 351mp, a 351p, an odin and waiting for the steamdeck. The one device i dont have is a plastic 351mp with a larger 4/3 screen and the same controls and quality. Would be my ideal device for up to ps1.
Could be that they are down clocking the CPU aggressively when nothing is "actively happening" and they're measuring this by inputs and button presses which is cause stutter in say a cutscene when you wouldn't want to push a button. They could keep the concept if they made it less aggressive on the timing
Well, that really sucks. I'll definitely keep watching the channel, but that makes me want to even avoid Anbernic :/ Blacklisting, trying to bribe media/reviewers/influencers, trying to form hidden conflicts of interest, etc. has been such a long, ongoing problem that unfortunately it never even surprises me to hear things like this. The thing I loved most about TH-cam before the whole commercialization and everything was the honesty of reviews and feedback. Nowadays, sadly, it's just much closer to mainstream outlets where you just don't know who to trust, because all these stupid publishers and companies keep doing this crap and way too many people fall for it or have no integrity. Please just keep up the good work!
I actually bought RG552 after viewing your video. Can't imagine they blacklisting you. I would had much worse image about RG552 if I didn't know its disadvantages in prior and got disappointed. And I have to say that this new product is stupid: they added grip, but didn't put L2 and R2 in their right place.
Ill just stick with my 351v thanks for the honesty 😎 out of curiosity I wonder if the 4000mah odroid go battery mod would work on this like it does on my 351v
Anbernic has always been about premium quality product. The inside of these products however, it's up to debate. I'm glad I picked Retroid Pocket 2 when it came out. I can't wait to get my hands on RP2+
Thanks for this Taki. I only have the silver and black RG280V. I bought it because it looked so cute. I love the feel of the device too. I have small hands. I think I'm never going to buy another product from them again unless I get the gold and red version just for the collection. :)
Anbernic is dropping the ball at this point. They aren’t a contender, they’re just pumping out products that over saturate an Amazon market where people who probably don’t know much other than anbernic and think they’re getting “upgraded” products from them. Instead of actually competing to supply the the retro fan base with an original product to consider or intrigue they’re just pissing people off with their repetition.
Anbernic are going backwards… first the RG-552 and its numerous issues, now an UGLY, plastic handheld. Anbernic’s USP was always aesthetics and build quality, and on these aspects they were way ahead of the competition. For me the RG-351MP is still their best handheld.
What do you think of the powkiddy rgb max10 2??? I was thinking of that for n64 and under.... I do enjoy a bigger screen, thats why I was looking at this device, but you kinda steered me clear lol. Which I appreciate as im on a budget income.
Blacklisted for a review? Makes no Sense. If anything, without your support these guys wouldn't of made as much a dent in the US. Your one of the top 5 in the world. Keep it real, doesn't bold well if they now would rather impede your ability to give advanced reviews for better sales. Even before the review they bashed you on, EVERYONE Was ALREADY Saying the SAME thing about that product! Fans, Battery, Buttons, Size and comfort were al issues - EVEN BEFORE ANY REVIEW. Anbernic should really think on deciding to remove genuine reviewers from being able to authentically review their products. Anbernic makes quality for sure, though without your upfront reviews I can bet many will turn to the competition. #Anbernic Fail
With steam deck and odin out just a matter of getting one, anbernic isn't willing to move on with incremental upgrades I'm guessing it's worked out in the past financially. They would be great competition and that's if they wish. Help retro hendhelds evolve, not milk it for another couple years. Ain't going to work out like last time until once stock comes back with other devices
Yeah, anbernic really shat the bed lately. I was gonna consider getting an RG351m, but after the recent debacle, I decided that the Retroid Pocket 2+ is a better rg351.
I was looking into getting my first handheld linux/android console and Anbernic was something I'd buy since they are out there since some time. But after hearing that they blacklisted You and them giving this device just a gigabyte of RAM, I'm just going to get a Gamesir X2 and put one of my phones in it. It really looks like they're not trying to improve anymore.
I haven't bought an Anbernic device yet since I was waiting for the perfect one to drop. Hearing that they have blacklisted you for petty reasons just puts me off from the brand completely. I'll order a Retroid device instead.
Oh dear, watch out for Putin's assassin's, Anbernic may have put a price on your head. I have the RG552 and its overclocked now, I love its big screen but hate the 2.4Ghz wiFi and unstacked Shoulder Triggers. This release sounds pretty dire from your Review, I liked the Vita OLED choice but it sounds jacked up. My pet hate with under powered emulation devices is that scratchy, hiccup sound, it ruins the experience, this device sounds like one of those. Hats off for being honest and up front about the device, Respect.
Honestly, I think the 3G Vita is still a better value, I checked on Amazon and it's $135. It can play all Vita (obviously,) PSP, and PSX games, plus it can play many of the same retro games via homebrew emulators. It has the same screen and none of the issues, the only things you are missing out on are the R2/L2, R3/L3, and the rumble, which only really matter for a small subset of PSX games (and the missing inputs are mitigated by the rear touch panel.)

I don't recall vita screen being that bad outdoors when I last used a friend 's many years ago..
Or maybe my definition of outdoor different from yours, I definitely don't use it under the sun/without any cover over my head.
You can tell Taki is giving zero F's with this review. Even though this review is well done and completely professional, this is what a non-biased review looks like. It's unfortunate that Anbernic has black listed him.
Thank you for your dedication Taki!
Wow, we're also blacklisted. 😅
I love Anbernics form factor above the competition, I just keep waiting for them to make something that can play N64 well.
A company blacklisting you means I don't buy their crap. Thank for letting us know.
I went with your RP2 plus advice and will avoid all RG products. They should not be blacklisting reviewers.
Wait a second.. this is a real review :s this caught me by surprise and i like it.
For sure, you can't beat a vita for PSP games. After watching alot of these reviews over the last few months I'm happy with just using my vita.
@@KoalaSnuggles integer scaled on vita is still bigger than most of these displays.
Bro your review is a crushing true evidence and how you explain things is awesome please keep up the good reviews and being honest ✌️❤️
Good review Taki, I didn't know they blacklisted you till now, but that only means you're looking out for us and not them. Thanks for that.
I appreciate that
even at max volume, my 1000W surround system doesn't pick up whatever this "D-Pad grinding noise" is that you're hearing
Damn, I'm sorry to hear you got blacklisted. I still love my 350m, and I found it from your channel.
After hearing you got blacklisted I’m for sure not purchasing any anberbic device anytime soon. Not like they anything worth buying anyway with the competition nowadays. Shame really, I loved my 351 but the company has been downhill since. On a plus side, I’m loving my Odin so thank you Taki for putting me on that instead.
you can self download games or you need to pay for it too?
Anbernic advertises it as a PSP emulator, but it can barely handle 10% of it's game library.
Save your money and go for Odin Pro when it goes on retail.
While I agree with skipping the RG503, I’m not sure the Odin Pro is worth it at this point.
By the time they can deliver for any new orders (June? July? August?) will it still be relevant? At the rate these handhelds keep coming out, I like to believe that we will see something that surpasses the Odin Pro by Q3/Q4.
That said, I still want an Odin Pro 😰
@@therealmakmillion lmao, it is worth for, EVEN at this point and I'm waiting on my delivery.
@@therealmakmillion I want something like an Odin Pro, but I think the Snap 845 is kinda outdated for it's price. So like a good old dude, I will wait until a snap 888 or G1 hits the mobile handheld scene.
@@therealmakmillion At least somebody here has braincells. The Odin not only hasn't been released yet but the Notorious L1/R1 problem is a huge issue.
The RK3566 can definitely handle a solid chunk of PSP emulation if the RK3326 can handle at least 70% of the PSP games you throw at it. However with this being said the RG503 might be another RG300X in my view.
These things tend to be so iterative you'd think if they got criticism they'd be glad to know what the very next models selling points will be.
I currently own a 351mp, a 351p, an odin and waiting for the steamdeck. The one device i dont have is a plastic 351mp with a larger 4/3 screen and the same controls and quality. Would be my ideal device for up to ps1.
The first OLED retrogaming-handheld was the GPH Wiz :)
Could be that they are down clocking the CPU aggressively when nothing is "actively happening" and they're measuring this by inputs and button presses which is cause stutter in say a cutscene when you wouldn't want to push a button. They could keep the concept if they made it less aggressive on the timing
Yeah I'm guessing the cpu governor is set to power save or something, setting it to performance will likely fix that issue.
The governor is set to ondemand
good to see your not a sell out like other reviews out there.
Well, that really sucks. I'll definitely keep watching the channel, but that makes me want to even avoid Anbernic :/
Blacklisting, trying to bribe media/reviewers/influencers, trying to form hidden conflicts of interest, etc. has been such a long, ongoing problem that unfortunately it never even surprises me to hear things like this.
Ya, that was the best part.
Roast and a half! Keep it honest and dont stress about blacklist! Cheers!
Where can I finde the aya odin android version cheap, i mean not scallped
On the Odin Indy gogo page
On their website but itll prob take 3-6 months for it to ship
Where are you at?

So it looks like that thing is using joy-con analog sticks. Does that mean it's going to have drifting problems?
Any Analoug stick can drift but ussally these kind of stick are just fake ones so they shouldn’t be as drifty
13:51 what Harry potter game is that?
Have you tested the Odin Lite? Did they send you a sample device for testing?
Ya, I've had an Odin Lite prototype since last year. It's in this video.
@@TakiUdon Must have missed it. How good is it and is it worth saving up the money? I'm debating between the Retroid Pocket 2+ and the Odin Lite.
I bought my fRG350 because of Taki. So many more quality builds on other devices. A gig of ram seriously?
Anbernic are going backwards… first the RG-552 and its numerous issues, now an UGLY, plastic handheld. Anbernic’s USP was always aesthetics and build quality, and on these aspects they were way ahead of the competition. For me the RG-351MP is still their best handheld.
I'm sorry you got blacklisted. You are the retro gaming person of all of youtube
Thanks for the review. 👏
Oh damn, he's rockin' the new Anbernic
Still sticking with my PSP and phone. I have so many emulation devices, Wii, OG Xbox, PC and a mini PC.
Were they high when designing that analog stick placement
Yeah, anbernic really shat the bed lately. I was gonna consider getting an RG351m, but after the recent debacle, I decided that the Retroid Pocket 2+ is a better rg351.
Devices like this pisses me off, because it gives the "just get a phone and put a controller on it" crowd validity!
The third party reseller recommendation at the end is a good burn
I was looking into getting my first handheld linux/android console and Anbernic was something I'd buy since they are out there since some time. But after hearing that they blacklisted You and them giving this device just a gigabyte of RAM, I'm just going to get a Gamesir X2 and put one of my phones in it.
It really looks like they're not trying to improve anymore.
The buttons on my miyoo mini had that grinding issue, all I did was put a tiny bit of mineral oil on the spot that was grinding.
I haven't bought an Anbernic device yet since I was waiting for the perfect one to drop. Hearing that they have blacklisted you for petty reasons just puts me off from the brand completely. I'll order a Retroid device instead.
Having to spam inputs to make the framerate go up is so weird! What's up with that?
When will you have the new model from Aya ?
Hey Taki, Do you have an idea what the brightness problem with the RG503 is? I'm desperate 😑 I would be very happy about an answer.
if my thumbs are all the way down there what am i supposed to grip the handheld with ?
Oh dear, watch out for Putin's assassin's, Anbernic may have put a price on your head.
I have the RG552 and its overclocked now, I love its big screen but hate the 2.4Ghz wiFi and unstacked Shoulder Triggers.
This release sounds pretty dire from your Review, I liked the Vita OLED choice but it sounds jacked up.
My pet hate with under powered emulation devices is that scratchy, hiccup sound, it ruins the experience, this device sounds like one of those.
Hats off for being honest and up front about the device, Respect.
Hello friend, is it heavy? compared to psp and psvita for example, what would be its weight???
Honestly, I think the 3G Vita is still a better value, I checked on Amazon and it's $135. It can play all Vita (obviously,) PSP, and PSX games, plus it can play many of the same retro games via homebrew emulators. It has the same screen and none of the issues, the only things you are missing out on are the R2/L2, R3/L3, and the rumble, which only really matter for a small subset of PSX games (and the missing inputs are mitigated by the rear touch panel.)
Them blacklisting you tells me everything I need to know about this company
And for streaming?
What a crap company - but thank you for your work regardless Taki
Taki, how would the Samsung a53 preform for wii and gamecube games i'm having trouble finding stuff out about it on youtube. Maybe you know more about the chips in it?
Where can I download 0:10 time theme?
Why would not pressing an input make the performance drop? I would have expected inputs to slow down performance if anything.
I swear we should just create our dream device ourselves and do a kickstarter!
Have you seen Odin? I recommend that
@@kingspina1781 😆 I was about to say “someone already did that and the device is called Odin!”
I love my Odin Pro 😉
