I’m new to quilting and have watched loads of videos and have never seen anyone start and end the binding like you ….. it’s amazing … I can’t wait to try it … thank you so much Emma 💖💖
My idea of eternal paradise is a big quilting studio with all the tools for hand quilting and infinite amounts of fabric and Emma’s videos playing on a big screen TV. Oh this does my heart good. Never stop making videos, Emma. You’re a natural wonder. This one is especially zen for some reason, not sure why.
Oh my goodness! This is the prettiest quilt I’ve ever seen! Your binding is spot on, Emma. The decorative stitching just sets it off perfectly❤. Thank you for sharing🥰
Emma after I watch all your videos I have learned so many great ideas. I HAVE TO START MY DAY BY SLOW STITCHUBG AND COFFEE AND YOUR TUTORIALS. THANKS emma
I had never thought to do decorative stitches when binding my quilts. They look so lovely and add a real personal touch. Thank you Emma for another lovely video. ❤💐xx
The best tutorial on binding ever and the decorative stitches so clearly explained. So calming to watch the delicate pink fabric being stitched. Thankyou
Brilliant! I really like your overlapping binding method. Easier for me to understand than the way I had been doing. And those Pony Certain Stitch needles are a revelation! I never heard of them before, but how ingenious--and simple--is that marked line on the needle itself. Thank you for sharing this with us.
You are a very good teacher. I really appreciate this information and your quilt is stunningly beautiful. The colors remind me of the first quilt I made for my daughter about 30 years ago. The quality of it is in a different universe, but the colors are so lovely.
Incredibly helpful, Emma! Thank you so much. Your close-up camera work is fabulous and shows exactly what you are doing. I would never have thought of doing a decorative stitch on my binding - this is a very special touch💕
Really loved this video, your quilt has turned out so pretty! I like to leave half an inch or so of the quilt top in place when trimming as this gives a nice full binding. Can’t wait for your next video xx
How brilliant you are with joining your binding! I have not seen this method and it's looks so much easier than the method I was taught. I love your videos Emma! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Oh,Emma, this is the best video I've ever seen on binding,Wish I had known all this a long time ago.Have really struggled with joining borders and mitre corners. Now it all looks so simple, such a pretty quilt.Thank you so much.xxxx
Super tutorial, your work is real heirloom stuff, outstanding. I do a lot of cross stitch but adore the different stitches for edgings, cant wait to try this on my quilting and patch work. I have a very old night cap (I don't wear it 😂) which is hand made with beautiful crochet trim, it has been hand stitched all around the seams and I just look at the work so delicate and tiny, I think it's fern stitch. Thank you for the inspiration 🌺
Hi Emma - love this video, beautiful quilt! I never get a neat finish when I do bind a quilt so I'm going to use your method as it's very clear and easy to follow and the decorative stitching adds such a beautiful finish. Thanks again - it's so refreshing to watch your videos!
Another Fabulous Video! I use the same method for binding-- after trying many other methods with various tools & templates. This method is simple & always works. I also use the Fern Stitch (although smaller)most of the time, BUT I have never thought of using what I was taught to call the " Lazy Daisy" Stitch in a Herribone pattern--Just Brilliant! I am going to try that. Thanks Emma!
That is a wonderful tutorial. I really suck at bindings and you gave me some good tips. I remember my Grandmother going around doing a blanket stitch with little pen markings on the side of her thumb and as she sewed around every stitch was perfectly placed. I human ruler lol.
hello there thank you for this wonderful video i so agree with the comment below this is that by far this has been the est video for the binding i think i might actually be abel to do it and like always your videos are so calming and you are a very good teacher
The binding demo was excellent! In the area I live I in the US, we call that 1/8” stitch around the quilt as the “victory lap”. It signifies that you are finally done with the quilt (except for the binding). Would you consider filming a longer video on special or decorative stitches? I appreciate your advice and creativity!!
The overlapping binding method looks much easier than doing a diagonal join with the two ends - I must definitely try your method! Also I love your use of decorative stitches to secure the binding.I wonder if you could talk about how you deal with all your scraps in your Q and A session? Do you keep everything or scraps bigger than, say,1 1\2 inches? Do you neaten them or prepare them in any way for future projects?. Thank you very much for such an informative video.
I've just watched you hand-stitch this beautiful, very feminine quilt, and you have inspired me to make a similar quilt and use the stitches you've shown to do the hand-turned hem. Thankyou for your expert and friendly contribution to my ongoing quilting endeavours. Be happy. From Oz with love.
I really learned a lot today by watching your video…. Especially on how to bind a quilt. I have bound many quilts ., but w/ this one you taught me how to do it easier. And all your decorative stitching, so very nice.thank you for your tutorial. Just great!!!
I’ve struggled with the last (almost) step … I typically go from attaching the binding to rolling it over to begin the final step. Then I ‘fight’ with bulk. In the future, I’ll press the binding. I like your decorative stitching … will use it on my next quilt! 🧵🧵🧵
Wonderful video! Love the beautiful stitches on the binding. I think those needles would be very helpful with decorative stitching. I haven’t seen those needles here in USA. Thanks sew much🪡🧵
Very informative, thank you Emma, I will certainly refer back to this when I ever manage to actually finish a quilt. :) I am interested to hear more about a fabric swap and what is entailed. I have binge watched all of your videos since watching the quilt as you go hexagons. I've started making these, for an 'I spy' quilt for our baby granddaughter. I've loved making them and I expect this to be the first quilt I do finish! But, as every hexagon has been fussy cut, I've already spent a lot of £'s on fabric. So I would be happy to swap some of my fabrics, if anyone else would be interested? Thank you for all of your content, I am hooked. :)
Hi Christine, thank you so much for watching my videos, it really means a lot to me, I am so happy to hear you enjoy them. Great question about a fabric swap, I will have a think and address it in the Q and A. Thank you and happy stitching!
I agree with @marilynpease, your way of joining the binding is the best I have seen. Wish I had checked this video first. I wouldn't be taking out m corners to fix .
Another fabulous video Emma - they mesmerise me! I am in love with the Liberty fabric on the back of the quilt. The whole quilt is beautiful. Looking forward to your Q&As video. My question would be, did you feel daunted when you started a new craft - ie. crochet, embroidery? I know you said your grandmother taught you from a young age, but I am starting out late in life and feel so nervous as to where to start. I tend to spend more time watching how to do it, than actually starting and doing it myself. Am I the only one to feel this way? Best wishes from Lottie in Suffolk.
Yes lottie , I find myself watching u-tube videos and not actually start something . Sometimes I must push myself to do it or ot would never been tried
I have done 2 full sized quilt tops with the hexegon shape only. Could you show us some other shapes being put together? You have been my inspiration. Thanks
Your binding fabric is beautiful so smooth. Very pretty joined edge of the binding, it is so much easier and professional. I have a question, how do you mark your needle for your measured stitch, is it nail polish?
What a great demo Emma, so clear and informative, thank you. You have made some beautiful items, where do you get your inspiration from? (Had a difficult few months and my sew jo has wandered off for now!)
Thank you so much Mary, I am glad you liked the video. I will address your question in my Q and A, thank you. I'm sorry the last few months have been difficult, I am sure when things settle your sewjo will return. When I feel like that I take myself out into nature, read the books that inspire me etc and then slowly I feel more creative again. I think the key is don't put pressure on yourself, it will come back. Sending hugs x
Two questions for you. What are the names of the needle that has the colored mark on the tip and also your quilt looks so nice and soft what type of batting did you?
I used Hobbs heirloom batting and the needles are called your certain stitch, there's a link in the description to them in my shop so you can see more info there. Thanks for watching
I’m 53 years old and this is by far the most beautiful quilt I have ever seen. Great job.
Wow, thank you!
Your explanation of the overlapping binding method is the best I’ve ever seen. Thanks so much.
Oh thank you so much Marilyn! That means so much to me as I worked hard on this video

Loved all the different stitches. Dresses up the binding. Thank you.
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Thank you Sharon! It's nice to dress it up isn't it 😊
I think that's the most helpful video I've watched with regards to doing binding. Thanks Emma. I love the look of the finished quilt, very pretty
Oh my goodness thank you! That honestly means everything to me x
Your tutorial os well done. It showed me the importance of going slowly and pressing as i go. Well done
Oh Emma I love the way u do binding . I'm always having trouble with binding . Thanks , will have to try this next time .
❤Thank you Emma
It can be really tricky, I didn't always do it this way but this is now my go to method as it works well. I hope it will work for you too
Oh my goodness! This is the prettiest quilt I’ve ever seen!
Your binding is spot on, Emma. The decorative stitching just sets it off perfectly❤.
Thank you for sharing🥰

Love seeing how to make these beautiful stitches. Thank you for the wealth of information, but keeping it manageable for those of us learning them.
Thank you Susan 🌸

I love the way you inserted the tail of the binding, I’ve never seen that before and I’m going to try it on my next quilt.
Emma, all the stitching is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your talents with us. Blessings to you and your family.
Thank you so much!

2:10 am looking at this video of the decorative binding. Very beautiful

@@susanwilliams2506 Thank you for your support. Isn't it daft? I have this terrible fear or failure or not doing it "properly".
My favorite way of applying binding except the hand stitching 😊
Gorgeous.

@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox thankyou
Hi Emma what sewing needles do you use please as we don’t have these in au
I linked them below in the description but they are called Your Certain Stitch and are made by Pony
You stitch the binding by hand all the way around on the back ?
yes I do, it looks lovely with these decoration stitches too
Do you mark the needle yourself, or does it come that way?
they are made that way!
What kind of thread do u use on your Juki sewing machine? I just got one?
I use aurifil 50wt and sometimes wonderfil deco bob
