This one is exquisite. I've had it prominently displayed since I turned it, years ago. It has a great story, I knew exactly what to do with it and it actually worked out and it's just a very beautiful piece of wood. It's one of my very favorites, I'm glad you like it, too! 😊
Phil, that is simply incredible! It looks like slate rock that chipped in square patterns. It's kinda like all the different types of beaches combined into one flowing island! Great work!
I spent four months in a recliner, hospital, rehab, and am still working on walking. The silver lining was you and your work and your fellow turners’. There is a similarity between getting a really wrecked leg reverted into a working one. Your skill, attention to what the wood was telling you, patience to persist, all that helped as my leg once again became a leg. No fretting, just taking the opportunity to appreciate what you do. Even down to the homemade French fries! Thanks, Phil. You are a sanity saver, too, you know.
You're right to be proud of it. Just an old rough piece of wood and you made it into a work of art and got something good out of Hurricane Katrina. Thank you very much for sharing and see you soon.
Even at 5 minutes and 30 seconds I can tell this is going to be a beautiful bowl. I so enjoy watching your videos. I am watching old videos (new to me!) from 2 and 4 years ago.
I may have said it before but, I love your approach to your 'work' Phil. Do only what you must to produce a bowl, a vase etc & then leave the rest to Mother Nature. It has served you well in the videos that I have watched before & WILL continue to serve you well in the future. Watching the woodturning of yourself, & a few others similar to you, has become the third 'love of my life' with my disability after my lovely wife & my 'drop dead' gorgeous German Shepherd girl. I look forward to MANY more pleasurable times viewing your videos.
Hey Phil, That piece is amazing. Very beautiful wood. Leaving as much nature as possible is the best way to do it. I agree with you 100%. Save the nature. Yall have a wonderful day.
I agree Phil, you turned a piece of fire wood into an art treasure. I have no idea what price a store would tack onto it but it would be a darn site more then fire wood . Beautiful!!
Really like you style of leaving as much of Mother Nature as you can. I too look for the uniqueness of the wood and try to accentuate it in my turnings. Beautiful piece!
Phil u finally earned your money. U did one fantastic job of keeping the natural glow of this piece of log and yet brought out its beauty with the bowl & finish. Two works collide and delivered something special. I look at the piece and I see the LA swamp & the bowl brings out the hidden beauty just as most people of Louisiana views the swamp. Thanks for sticking with it and give us a wonderful scene of nature. Stay safe friend.
Well, now I want to visit the LA swamp, Kid! Actually, always have wanted to. We see it in movies and TV but I'm sure it can't compare to up close and personal. Thank you, Kid, I'm so glad you like it! Phil
Thanks Phil. It amazes me how you can take what looks like a piece of junk and turn it into a one-of-a-kind piece of art. After watching yours and other turner's vids I don't look at my firewood pile the same.
Your channel is so unique Phil. The intrigue is seeing pieces of wood no one else would attempt to turn, transformed into works of art. Always entertaining; usually a surprise at the end.
I try, Manjit. It took a long time to realize how important the finish is. That's what you are touching when you handle a piece. If it doesn't feel good it's not going to look good. Thank you!
I think this now qualifies as your best piece yet! It's absolutely amazing what you do with pieces of wood I would just throw in a pile. Going to have to start looking at pieces differently.
Thank You Phil (thank you Joe from Louisiana) ...(thank you hurricane Katrina...now I have gone too far !!!) Glad you went with a tenon. I do look forward to the nub, ha. I actually jumped a bit with my headphones on with the Bee, good one!!..Phil this is an excellent show, you and "Cherry" get an award for excellence!!! TM
Hahaha! That bee was pretty persistent, Tuffy! This is a once in a great while piece of wood I was fortunate to have the opportunity to turn. I'm really glad you like it, I like it, too! Phil
Phil, this is one of your most gorgeous pieces of Woodturning. There is so much of a Story told by the piece of wood. A handcrafted narration by Phil.... Marvelous!!!!!
So delighted to see this creation, Phil. I had a little fall that turned out not to be little, and so missed my ‘dates’ with you in the Woodshop. It so good to hear your voice and watch your master’s hand once again. You give so much to so many. Be safe, take care during this time!
Wow Phil, that is undoubtedly a first place winner! Your eye and hand makes Mother Nature so perfect. Btw, I had your bumble bee buzzing in my left ear twice as I found myself swatting it... thanks for sharing
Looking at that piece of firewood at the beginning Phil I thought no way but your magic turned it into a really gorgeous piece. I see that I am going to have to spend longer on my finishing. Well done Phil
Thank you very much, Barry! It took me a long time to learn patience with the finishing. Mostly we just want to get it done and show somebody, right? LOL!
No dislikes!!! Totally understandable. Enjoy your banter & skill explanations. Beautiful natural work. Love it amongst the many sites I watch with envy. Keep up the wonderful work.
Phil. This is a real beauty. It could be one of your best ever. Just enjoy watching you work. I don’t know if you can top this one. Thanks for your work
This piece amazes me to this day, Jim. It's story, it's grain, the way it was ripped from the tree during the hurricane. And now we have it in all it's natural beauty. I love it and would never let it go!
PHIL YOUR A CLASS ACT, I HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS . THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE . Thanks Joe as you contribute to Phil's demonstrations of excellence. This one goes down as hurricane history pieces.
No doubt! 😍
Phil what I appreciate about your work is as much what you don’t do to your pieces as what you do. This is exquisite. Fantastic!
This one is exquisite. I've had it prominently displayed since I turned it, years ago. It has a great story, I knew exactly what to do with it and it actually worked out and it's just a very beautiful piece of wood. It's one of my very favorites, I'm glad you like it, too! 😊
your friends really try to challenge you with the pieces they send you. You really answer their challenges better than expected
This piece is so exceptional in person. I don't think I captured that in the video. It's absolutely gorgeous! 😊
Phil, that is simply incredible! It looks like slate rock that chipped in square patterns. It's kinda like all the different types of beaches combined into one flowing island! Great work!
Wow, thanks, David! 👍😁
Phil..you have a gift for creating beauty as nature intended....I am speechless!!!!👍👍👍👍👍

Well, that is a loooong convalescence! I'm so glad you are getting better. Slow and easy, you'll get'er done. Thank you, Joanne!

You're right to be proud of it. Just an old rough piece of wood and you made it into a work of art and got something good out of Hurricane Katrina. Thank you very much for sharing and see you soon.
Well said! At least something good came from that hurricane! Thank you, I'm so glad you like it, too!
Taking something from destruction to perfection.

An extraordinary craggy mountains piece. It’s a gorgeous, a beauty!
We agree, Nancy! This is one of my favorites. 😊
You’re correct Phil it is absolutely GORGEOUS! It is astonishing what you made out of this piece of wood. Awesome piece of functional natural art.
With a cool history, Mary Beth, I love that! 😊
Even at 5 minutes and 30 seconds I can tell this is going to be a beautiful bowl. I so enjoy watching your videos. I am watching old videos (new to me!) from 2 and 4 years ago.
Wow, thank you, Elisa! This bowl is just special to me. I love it's history and how it looks like the hurricane just ripped it from the tree. 😄
Wonderful, Phil, I love it too. The subtle colours that contrast in the bowl and in the bark.
It's actually exquisite, Richard. I wish you could touch it and hold it. It is one of my very favorites. 😊

Beautiful Turning Phil
Thank you, Raul!
I agree Phil, you turned a piece of fire wood into an art treasure. I have no idea what price a store would tack onto it but it would be a darn site more then fire wood . Beautiful!!
I have no idea what price it would bring either, Warner but I can tell you, if I was going to sell it, it would be one of my most expensive pieces! 😊
I’ve got to agree with Bryan. Your best yet Phil! Stunning piece with so much character, like the turner. Thanks. 🇨🇦
Wow, thanks, John! I must admit, it is a favorite of mine as well.
Phil
As you said, it does define the way you go after it...try to leave it as it is. I really enjoyed the video, thanks Phil.
Glad you enjoyed it, Scott, thank you for watching! 😊
Really like you style of leaving as much of Mother Nature as you can. I too look for the uniqueness of the wood and try to accentuate it in my turnings.

I find myself looking for odd pieces to turn now instead of the “norm”. Thank you for the inspiration!!
As it should be, Madonna. I'm glad you figured it out! 😊
