Phil a hundred years from now someone will be showing off this bowl and saying "And this is an authentic Phil Anderson piece that has been in our family for generations"
Wouldn't that be cool, Dana! 😊
Hi Phil 👋
Again a master piece
Looks 3 D grains in it 😮
Why don't you refer to this wood as "Tiger Maple?
@@JaquithShadoff Not sure which of us you are talking to. I seldom use terms other than "figure." People always want to call it what they are familiar with which can vary from location to location and family to family.😃
It’s a beautiful piece of maple wood 🪵 , and you can be very proud of your work !!
Thank you very much! 😊
Most people would be stressed out over the "weird" pieces you've done...the root balls, etc. That's no sweat for you but here you are, stressed over a round bowl! You're a treasure, Phil...and that gorgeous grain is too!
Haha, well, I know what I like! Thanks, Leigh! 😀
Yes, that is hilarious 😊. But it turned out amazing.
Ther comes a time in every wood turners life where he has to turn a bowl with no bark😂😂😂😂😂😂 nice work Phil
LOL! 😀
Wow Phil the chatoyance and grain came through loud and clear. The shape is very pleasing. It’s a simply stunning bowl.
Thank you, Susanne! 😊
There's a lot of words that mean really really good, but I thought maybe I'd keep it simple for once. That is some special maple. I'm going to get my Mom to watch this one, she's 89, so I try not to send her too many youtube videos to watch. I believe she will enjoy seeing that maple quilt emerge as much as I did. Oh boy! What a jackpot.
Cool, thank you, William! 😀
Absolutely gorgeous Phil!!! I've said this before, but you are a true artist!! 👍 👏
Thank you so much, Ron! 😀
Beautiful Absolutely Beautiful Phil That grain is Amazing!😎
It sure is! I don't think I've ever had a piece of wood with so much beauty just being itself. Thanks a lot, Kimsey! 😊
I think this one shows just how much you put into a piece of wood and how much you can get out of it! Great job, it shows you are a ture Craftsman!❤
Awesome, thank you! 😀
Yup a piece that will be cherished when you are gone. In 50 years. I love the grain amazing. Enjoy your camping (Glamping) trip. 3 days a year is not enough.
Thank you, Rick! We had a great time but, yeah, not long enough! 😊
It’s got a beach on one side and a Forrest on the other. Great piece Phill. 😊
😊
Round, flat bottomed, no bark. Whatever has come over you, Phil? Definitely out of character but the end result was worth all your quaking and hard work. Mother Nature's magic at its best and brought out perfectly. Thanks as ever.
Thank you, David! 😊
Really beautiful wood, Yes, think what nature can achieve.
And 👍 up of course.
Carsten
😊
Phil, this is my favourite of what I have seen you do. Sometimes piece of wood is so beautiful, all you can do is give it a simple shapeand let it glows.
Thank you, George! 😊
You really did that piece of figured maple justice. Nice work!
😊
Absolutely gorgeous. Love the flaming, looks like the ribs on a violin. Nice piece of wood and the bowl is beautiful. 🎻❤
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you Phil, another awesome bowl, I love your videos and thank you for sharing, your treat to watch❤❤❤
So nice of you, Jeanne, thank you! 😊
That's a bowl blank where it would be really nice to use a tool to take out the core so you could make multiple bowls.
😀
WOW what a gorgeous bowl!!! You amaze me how you work with the wood. Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece of art. Have a great weekend. 🙂
Thank you, Mary! 😊
WOW!! Fantastic job on an equally fantastic chunk of wood!! Great commentary along the way, too. Thanks for sharing the details with us!!
Thanks for watching and commenting! 😊
OMG! The pattern of the wood 😍🤩😍. Magnificent piece, thank you for sharing this.
You’re welcome 😊
A truly gorgeous bowl! We liked the shape and size but the natural shine of the wood is spectacular! You bring wood alive. Thank you for another awesome episode.
Thank you very much! 😀
it looks like you captured strands of sunlight in your bowl, it is beautiful.
Thank you! 😊
It’s beautiful. Grain is incredible ❤🧡🍁🍂💛
😀
Oh my gosh! Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner! That grain is awesome!
Thanks, Kristi! 😊
A future heirloom indeed. What amazing markings. Truly stunning. ♥️
Enjoy your trip. 🚍
We had a great time, Mandy, thanks! 😊
Once again you helped the wood tell its own story. The bowl is beautiful, and the shape you chose shows off the fantastic grain in the best possible way. And yes, figured wood and scrapers do not play well together. I am willing to bet this bowl will get a lot of use as well as tons of admiration! Well done, so bring on the food (Popcorn? Fruit? Halloween candy?)👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much, Valerie! I don't know what it will be used for, just hope they take care of it! 😊
Phil, this bowl is so beautiful! I'm in love with the grain!!!! Thank you so much for all of your videos!
😊
That’s beautifully figured wood, beautiful product. It’s funny to hear you “shaking like a leaf” , I can relate to that. Good to see the best teacher at the lathe again. I like your beach and wave description when finished, it is a heirloom piece , no doubt,!!
Thank you, Karen! Glad you think so! 😀
Phil I've enjoyed watching your videos. Of all the wood I've seen you turn that chunk of wood deserves to be round. It's absolutely beautiful. Keep turning...
Thank you, Jason! 😊
A thing of beauty is a joy forever!
You did a great job on thst, it's a good thing to step outside of your comfort zone. I stepped outside of mine because I watched your videos. Thank you much & happy turning!
Thank you, Steven! 😊
Beautiful Phil , what a rare piece of wood, and I like the shape you have chosen very much. Regards George
Than you, George! 😀
Gorgeous!!! The shape is nice but I truly admire the finish you put on your piece! 🎉 The chatoyance is incredible!

Glad you enjoyed it, my friend! It's so good to see you here, Gord! 😀
Gigantic M&M bowl. It is a beautiful piece.
Great job Phil
😀
That chatoyance is glorious.
😊
Gorgeous in its simplicity…an heirloom piece for sure…love it!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
😊
Another beautiful bowl in the books, Phil. I still wish you'd sell one every now and then. Thanks
Me too! Thank you! 😊
Stunning ❤ Those ripples are hypnotizing 🎉
😊
Just a beautiful piece Phil. I love the shape. Thank you for sharing. See you next week
😊
This is a Lovely bowl, with quite remarkable figuring! The chatoyence is definitely visible, from this side of the camera. Well done!
Good to know, Stephanie, thank you! 😊
OMG Phil I can't believe you done a round bowl lol but I love it you are the man
Haha, thanks, Bobby! 😊
Looks like three D. Simply beautiful!
😊
Wow, what a gorgeous bowl. Great job. A pleasure as always.😊
Thank you so much 😃
So pretty, looked like a shower curtain on the inside to me. LOL
You worry about round I worry when I try to do what you do best. Have looked so forward to Thursdays at 5 for years.
Thanks Phil for another treat!
Ha, yeah, the folds of a shower curtain, good analogy, Kamie! Thanks for watching! 😀
Unbelievably gorgeous the grain is so lovely🎉🎉😊❤
🙂
❤Fantastic I love turning Figured maple , love the bevel on top . Have a great trip.
😊
It’s beautiful the chatoyance is unbelievable. It looks like the grain is in three dimensions.
😊
Lots of work but it turned out great! Luv that flamed maple!! 👍👍
😊
I don't mind round bowls, especially when they turn out like this one! I love the coloring and figuring of that maple. I have a wash stand that was made by a local woodworker almost 50 years ago from figured maple ( we call it "Tiger Stripe") that still looks new. Great work, Phil.
Wonderful! Thanks, Tom! 😊
Phil,
I was encouraged by your honest struggle with tear out after scraping the bottom inside.
I see a lot of videos that show ( pretend?) a perfectly smooth, scraped finish, and I have never been able to achieve it. Glad to see I am not alone.
I also like the large bottom and vertical sides. A big curve to a small foot would hide too much of the beautiful wood under the bowl.
Thank you for sharing.
Chas
We agree on all points, Chas, thank you! 😊
Almost looks like a Reflection. Tall standing Grass. Looking good Phil
😊
Love how figured maple pops. Great piece Phil
😀
WOW beautiful bowl and the grain is magic. weldone.
Thank you so much 😀
Great piece Phil. Kinda out of your comfort zone which amazes me after watching you turn cracks bark and everything imaginable into some beautiful pieces.
Many thanks! 😊
This one has some crazy grain in it, Beautiful Salad bowl.
😀
Quilted Maple…. Beautiful bowl Phil.
😊
That's a spectacular piece of wood! The relatively plain, classic shape of the bowl really allows the beauty of the grain to stand out.
😊
Wow, what a beautiful outcome, Phil! That grain has me asking so many questions - it’s mesmerizing. I’d buy that bowl in a heartbeat!
Thank you, Ryan! 😊
Absolutely stunning and beautiful artwork!
😊
What astonishing grain in this one Phil.
Beautiful.
Take care my friend.
Cheers, Huw
For sure, thanks, Huw! 😊
Beautiful work, Phil! You are my inspiration.
Wow, thank you, Howard! 😊
Just one word beautiful.
😀
That's a lovely piece of wood & well turned😄
Thank you very much! 😀
Truly an heirloom bowl. I've never seen that much chatoyance in a piece of wood. Thanks.
Thank you, Garth! 😊
That is some very pretty grain Phil! Petty sure it's maple as well, have a great day, Mike
Thank you, Mike! 😊
Phil.....a round bowl?
Should we be worried?
Only kidding, beautiful piece.
👍👍
😀
I would be surprised if there is anyone quite like you out there. Fearless with a chunky, crazy, twisty hunk of wood but out your comfort zone with a little, old, round bowl. I got nervous right along with you.
Haha, thanks, Cecilia! 😊 I'm afraid of these plain wood blanks because they depend on me to come up with a shape and I ain't no artist! With my natural bowls, they pretty well determine everything, I just make a hole in them and they are good to go!
Very nice! And very usable. Fruit bowl or bread bowl. Not just another pretty face!
😊
Awesome bowl Phil! That figure us AWESOME!
Indeed it is. Thank you, Billy! 😊
Love the folded effect the grain has. Great job.
😊
The chatoyance is awesome, Phil.
😊
That grain is absolutely gorgeous!
😊
Great job Phil.I do see the ocean, on the outside and on the inside it reinds me of a water fall. I love it.
Thank you, Fred! 😀
Doesn’t even look like wood. So amazing! I bet it looks much better in person. Have a great trip with Kelvin!
Thank you, Christine! We did! 😊
Good evening, Phil.
Truely a very beautiful bowl. Excellent blank with tremendous grain and figure. I really like it.
All the best to you.
Ray
Thank you, Ray! 😊
Just awesome and stunningly beautiful
Thanks so much! 😀
Love the grain. Again you have done it 👏 😊❤
Thank you! 😊
You’re right gorgeous piece of wood!! Pretty bowl!!
😊
The quilting on the bowl is amazing
😀
This time it is the wood that makes out for the fenomenal beauty of it, it still takes the master to finish it so well!
Thanks, Erik! 😊
Hi Phil. The chatoyance was easy to see in the video. Just beautiful.
Thank you, Cliff! 😊
This is outside your comfort zone? OK... 😊 Love the beveled edge, and yes, the grain is amazing. Looks kind of like a dark furred dachshund on the inside, to me. Awesome piece!
Thanks so much! 😊
Such a beautiful piece of wood! Wonderful bowl Phil! I love the shape and the bevel edge. The grain looks like you would be able to feel the ripples. Gorgeous!
My son in law touched it and was surprised he couldn't feel the ripples, Karen! 😊
That is one of the most beautiful bowls I've seen you make Phil! I know it's not your usual thing to make but the tiger stripes are stunning!!!! Thank you for sharing this video. Stuart
Wow, thank you, Stuart! 😊
Yes it is absolutely beautiful, incredible grain pattern and chatoyance is really cool.
A lot of goodies will fit in that bowl.
All the best to you.
Regards Jim
Thank you, Jim! 😊
Turned out awesome Phil. Sure is a nice surprise to have wood that defies your expectations with it"s beauty.
Sure is, Monty, thanks! 😊
Beautiful bowl! Love everything about it. Amazing!
Thank you very much! 😊
Hi Phil that piece of wood turned out beautiful. When I have wood this big it makes me wish I had one of those wood coring systems so I could get more than 1 bowl out of such a nive piece of wood, instead of seeing all those shavings on the ground. Maybe one day. Keep up the good work and I liie your electric bikes reviews. 👍
Thanks a lot, Henry! 😊
You're very welcome, I look forward to watching your wood turning videos every Thursday, I need to get me one of those sand-o-flex tools you use. Or maybe a couple for the different different grades of sand papers.
@@henryrodriquez4706 They are so handy and efficient, Henry! 😊
That is some real pretty wood Phil! And an even more stunning bowl. Very well done. Thx and take care.
Thank you so much! 😊
Wow Phil. What a spectacular piece.
😊
A very nice piece of wood for sure!! It turned into a beautiful bowl, even if round (which I don't mind at all ☺). Any shape would have looked great with that grain and colour!! Cheers, Rick
Thank you, Rick! 😀
Wow I am absolutely in love with the grain in this so much depth!! Very well done Phil I think the simplistic shape was a great choice to show off the grain, no sense in distracting from the true beauty of the grain! :)
Glad you like it, thank you! 😀
An awesome piece Phil. Enjoy your trip. Keep up the amazing work.👽
We had a great time, thanks! 😊
Beautiful piece. Love the chatoyance.
Thank you! 😀
That piece of wood had a lot going for it. Lovely work and a really nice bowl
Yes, thank you 😊
Thank You Phil, Thank You Kerry... Wonderful piece of Curly Maple. I have seen for sale and they are always rated #1, #2 & #3 but I think you have a #4 with all that beautiful ripple grain both inside and outside. Turning the inside Phil you had to "scrap it into submission" HA! The trouble you had with the tear out I can relate. The only way I have been able to conquer the tear out is with lots of sanding, ugh! Incredible wavy grain. Looking at the inside is like looking down at a topographic map with the hills and valleys BUT also knowing it is all very flat... Wonderful turning today Phil and until next time. Quite impressive to say the very least Phil.... TM
Haha, Kelvin was over and saw this one in person. He couldn't believe he could see the ripples but couldn't feel them! I've never seen anything like it. I hate tear out! I don't even mind the sanding, just don't like to treat the wood like that. Oh well, it turned out good. Thank you, Tuffy! 😀
A man of many talents! Phil wow! You are very patient the way you worked through turning this bowl. Don’t know what else to say but have a great weekend!! Dan
Thanks, Dan, you too! 😊
Smoother than Barry White a good day! 😅
Cheers
😊
Wow, that’s beautiful. I never see wood anything like that here. l’m just blown away by the grain on it. A bowl is exactly what that piece deserved to be. I hope it becomes somebody’s heirloom.
Me too! Thank you, Sylvia! 😊
