"Bringing the tree back to its former glory..." I really respect that philosophy....a genuine guiding belief in turning out beautiful projects. Best wishes and be healthy.
What is really nice about the wood sent to you is that the person who sent it gets to see what you create from it. Evertbody wins! Nice bowl, Phil. I appreciate you and your generous viewers.
Hello Phil, my mom and I are catching up on some videos we've not seen before. In this video you thank everyone who sends wood to you. My mom and I also thank the donors of wood. Thanks to their donations and your videos she and I are both learning about wood and trees. During this video, for instance, we went to Wikipedia to find out what is 'plum knot disease'. Other videos have inspired us to learn about different species of tree, (and why some of them are toxic to woodworkers). Thanks again for your lovely videos.
Agree, Deirdre and mom, we are all quite fortunate to have such a wide variety of wood to experience. I have the best, most generous viewers out there and I'm so grateful! 😊
I love the differing opportunities you are able to show/share with us. Your subscribers are the best , I love the variety of wood species . I’m so glad I found I found your channel. Thank you for all you do. ❤👍👍👍
Another lovely work of art... your friends hear the cry of those pieces of wood saying "Send me to Phil, pleeeaaassseee" and they give in and say "Ok, Ok already" and so you get all those beautifully difficult pieces of wood turn into the gorgeous items of art. Tell your friends thanks from me too 🥰... enjoyed watching your video, thanks Phil
Wow! Just as you finished with the tool I felt my legs relax. I realize now that whenever I watch your turning I tense up. It’s so funny. I guess you have more gualls than I do! Love to watch you every week. You are amazing Phil!
Phil you proved me wrong with this one! I thought it was just going to crumble. But you found enough wood to secure to your lathe. Another great piece Phil.
Hi Phil, It is so nice of everyone to send you these pieces of wood for you to show us how to turn them. You never disappoint. This is another example of how a frog can be turned into a Prince with a kiss from your gouges. Great work Phil. take care, my friend. Cheers, Huw
Mr Phil, Wonderful work! Very nice and thank you for sharing your process and finished bowl. It is nice to know that there is another person in the world that enjoys chunks of wood that most turners do not consider. Like you, I believe the time element is not important and the final product is the reason to practice the craft. Again sir, sincerely, thank you for sharing.
beautiful wood another creation from God and he has given you the gift to make something out of it!! The grain almost looks like a burl but really beautiful piece Phil!! Again I think we all expect that from you now! God has bless us with you!!
WOW!!! I've got to agree with both Gary (ThePapa 1947) and Billy Burt, Phil. I watch as many of your videos as I can when time allows me. The main reason being, you take on the pieces of wood that I am convinced many wouldn't attempt. You use your vast experience and skill to just push the boundaries a little more (safely) and more often than not when the piece is finished, well it's just a master piece of the collusion between mother nature and yourself. Congratulations Phil on another stunning piece of art. Thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into sharing your art with us TH-camrs. Until your next woodturning adventure, take care Phil and all the best to you and yours. Regards Phil, Tony.
You just keep them coming, the artist at work, you say you just bring out the beauty of what is already there but, the beauty is in the hand that can turn it into a beautiful piece of art.
Good morning Phil. I haven't seen you (or anybody else) from my TH-cam subscriptions lately. Don't know why. I went looking and found this one of yours. What a great video for my first taste of turning videos in several weeks! I have complimented you before on many aspects of your work. Today I saw it all - those great hands as you work, the humility while you work on the piece, the fine teaching (today's finishing detail was invaluable) and your love of the wood. Today I was noticing the quality of you video editing. 26 minutes is a long time to hold viewer's attention but your videos never drag, never get boring, always show me something new. Ok, OK, I'll quit with the praise. You rock man! Thanks for all the pleasure and teaching.
Wow, Tom, such a fine pick-me-up this morning! I thank you for your detailed comment and the time you spent watching! I'm glad you found this video and took your time to let me know how you enjoyed it. Thank you so much! 😊 Phil
Phil I continue to be impressed with all your work. I can't tell you much I've learned from watching you. I also like your simple but beautiful finishing processes. Gil
Phil, Very well done! I heard someone say something you might enjoy. "If you can eat soup out of it, it's a bowl. If not, then its art." So nice piece of art! Also, in a wood shop, all fights between spinning machines and fingers, machine wins. Be safe and happy! Respectfully, Kevin
Phil Anderson - Shady Acres Woodshop Phil, I only tell you I like something when I like something. Praising lesser work does no one any good! Be safe my friend! FaceTime the granddaughters! Kevin
Thank You Phil ( thank you Duane ) Duane that is very pretty wood. Nice send and just enough challenge to keep Phil on his toes, ha. Phil you do wonderful work with the fruit woods (and every woods )...TM
Phil when I looked at the bark I was not sure there would be enough wood under it but there sure was. Such beautiful wood and you gave it the perfect shape. I was holding my breath while you was turning the nub off. Glad you stopped when you did I was ready to pass out! You got it done and it worked like a charm. A party in the woods...gee I wish I could get invited to that party...BYOCS...Bring Your Own Chain Saw! Another great job my friend. Take care, Gary
Hi Phil another great turning video my wife asks why are you not watching television i said i would rather watch Phil turning a piece of wood into a work of art i learn so much from your videos take care and keep well from your old apprentice Jim.
Phil, you must have nerves of steel and no heart problems because my heart was running bout as fast as your lathe was running. I sure couldn’t see that mush wood underneath all the bark. It was suspenseful and was glad it was you with that gouge. That is a beautiful beautiful bowl. I know you are proud of it. Thanks for sharing with us. Sure enjoyed it!
Due to high winds, we've lost cable reception 3 (or 4) times, so this week's video has taken over 2 & 1/2 hours to view (finishing on the PC). Well worth the effort!! Your comments on repeating procedures every time for your regular viewers. I enjoy 'em, consistency counts!! As a regular viewer, I'm always in search of the answer to the Question "What Would Phil DO?"......Very nice bowl!
Beautiful piece, Phil. I don't know how you saw that in the blank but you did as usual. Always fun to watch. I'm glad you're staying home and staying safe. Bill
Hey Phil, It never stops amazing me, how you can take weirdly shaped gnarly pieces and then expose the beauty that is inside! You are a true artist! Thanks for sharing, and stay safe! Regards Lars
Well I had to get a little angry with myself with this video. When I first looked at the piece I said 'no way', there does not look to be enough wood to turn this time. Then I had to tell myself, 'hey this is Phil, he will find a way, even he finishes up turning a piece of bark'! Good grief man you found enough wood to turn & what a delightful bowl, piece of Art, you produced. It is stunning in its final form. It has beautiful grain & the bark & inclusions are fantastic. I bow to you mate, you will find & release beauty in 'any piece of wood thrown at you'. Fabulous finish, perfect for this bowl. Don
Hey Mr. Phil, I really like it. I know you have been just sitting around wondering what Greg thinks about it. 🙄 It looks like a dish to throw your keys and pocket change in. At the same time it looks too nice to throw anything in. 🙃 Keep up the good work my friend.
phil this a beautiful piece you always amaze me at the way you figure out ways to get it done love the way you explain what you are doing i learned so much thanks
If I had a piece like what you have I would send it to you, because I would not know what to do with it. Phil, I don't see how you decide on what to do. You have talent.
I sincerely appreciate that, Don, but I only wish I could convince others they can easily do the same. It's as simple as figuring out how you can hold it and then just start turning and see what happens. Thank you! Phil
Buona sera amico mio! I really, really, really like this dish! I love it so much that I’m at a loss of words. It gives me a warm feeling inside, like a memory from my childhood with my Grandpa. So wonderful! Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece. I hope your finger healed quickly. It looks like it did. Yay! I hope you are having nice weather up there. It is friggin’ HOT 🥵 down here. I feel yucky. 🤕 I’m pretty sure the heat triggered this headache. 🤕 If any of your viewers suffer from migraines, or not, please send some pain relieving energy my way. Thank you all! V🤗💋. 🧡✨ ~ Roma
Oh, I know migraines can make you miserable, Roma, and I'm sure the heat isn't helping. Sorry about that. Sending all the positive energy I can muster through these words! 😊 Can you feel it, yet? Hugs! Phil
Came out great! Here in my area of Wisconsin cherry is so common that I used to get a lot in my firewood deliveries. We have a lot of black knot fungus that makes for some great burls. Though sometimes they are pretty loose and end up exploding on the lathe.
Another masterpiece, Phil....one day I hope to develop some of the intuition and instinct that you have, even if it is just a little bit. Well done and keep up the chat as you work as it gives us all an insight into the thought process of a good woodturner. Thank you for sharing and you and your wife stay safe.
Great job again Phil! This was a really difficult piece to turn. There's still a lot that I can learn from you. What I like most is that you share your analysis and deliberations for doing what you do. Whatever you do, do not change that! /Leo
Such a great comment to read, Leo, thank you! I have to weigh your words against those that say, "just shut up and turn!" I believe your words have the heaviest side in this argument. Besides, I like talking with you guys! 😊 Phil
Something beautiful out of a piece that others may have thrown away. That’s called the wisdom of the artist’s eye.
Thank you, Nancy! 😊
"Bringing the tree back to its former glory..." I really respect that philosophy....a genuine guiding belief in turning out beautiful projects. Best wishes and be healthy.
Thanks, Doc, for understanding and appreciating that. It is absolutely how I feel about most of the wood I'm fortunate enough to work with.
The cracks and bark inclusions on this piece are exquisite! We sure got lucky.
We sure did, Nan! 😊
What is really nice about the wood sent to you is that the person who sent it gets to see what you create from it. Evertbody wins! Nice bowl, Phil. I appreciate you and your generous viewers.
Yes, agreed, Karen! It's a bonus for everyone! 😄

You are so welcome, Steve! Yes, I have the best viewers on TH-cam! 😊
Phil has good friends which is nice we viewers get to share the different woods too.
So true, Lewis, I'm sooo fortunate and we all benefit! 😊
To me the piece looks a little bit like a bear's paw seen from above. Beautiful as always! Love it!
Yes, also a catcher's mitt. Thanks, Sabrina! 😊
Another lovely work of art... your friends hear the cry of those pieces of wood saying "Send me to Phil, pleeeaaassseee" and they give in and say "Ok, Ok already" and so you get all those beautifully difficult pieces of wood turn into the gorgeous items of art. Thank you so much, Sylvie! Sorry to put you through that but I'm glad you watch, anyway! 😊
Phil you proved me wrong with this one! I thought it was just going to crumble. But you found enough wood to secure to your lathe. Another great piece Phil.
Right on, Allan! Where there's a will, there's a way! 😊
Hi Phil, It is so nice of everyone to send you these pieces of wood for you to show us how to turn them. You never disappoint. This is another example of how a frog can be turned into a Prince with a kiss from your gouges. Great work Phil. take care, my friend. Cheers, Huw
Wow, thank you, Huw! Agree, if not for my generous viewers this would be a pretty boring channel.
Phil
I was once a new viewer. Now I am an ardent fan.
That makes me a fan of you, Karl, thank you! 😊
Mr Phil, Wonderful work! Very nice and thank you for sharing your process and finished bowl.
