  • This video is Part 1 of the removal, refresh (restoration), and re-installation of an oil pan on a 1977 C3 Corvette. All things are stock on this C3 and 1977 just happen to have a "Y" pipe coming out of the 350 that drops down and runs right over the oil pan, making for a very challenging and more complicated oil pan removal. This series of videos shows the entire process, step by step so that if you ever need or want to do this type of refresh and reinstallation...you can feel comfortable in doing so.
    Parts and tools that you will need to do what you see in this video are:
    Jack stands or hoist to get your C3 raised enough so you can access the steering components, oil pan, and exhaust.
    Standard socket set with extensions and deep sockets
    Some open ended wrenches
    A dead blow hammer
    A pickle fork
    Degreaser
    Rags
    Oil catch container
    Penetrating Oil
    Cut off wheel

    Excellent tutorial buddy! I have a 78 Silver Anniversary and thoroughly enjoy learning the “how to” videos. 😎🇺🇸

      Thank you. That is my goal, just to add to the body of knowledge put there on C3s . Same here I find the tutorials that people put out there very interesting and useful too. Thanks for your comment! J

    I am a little bit late to this video, but I would recommend changing the horrible original exhaust with a true dual exhaust system from Corvette Central. I bought one from them for my 1980 L82 in 2011 (I think) and it was a huge upgrade. The exhaust itself seems to cost around 500 - 600 USD and twice that if you buy the shorty headers from them also. It is absolutely worth it. It is almost completely bolt on. The only modification I had to do was to remove the flap in the passenger side exhaust. I think that flap was for the EGR. Not completely sure. Everything else bolted right onto the stock manifolds.
    I have stainless sidepipes now. I`m not sure if I would recommend them unless you really wanted something like that. They are much harder to install (mine had to be both bent and dented to fit) and you can burn your feet if you aren`t careful. And they are very noisy. But I kind of like that...

      That a great comment and I'll look into it. I definitely have to replace my exhaust (well not have to) and this wound be a great option. I'll start looking into it. Thank you for the comment.

    Dude.. so i decided to tackle this today. Thankfully no bolts snapped on me thanks to pv blaster. and everything went smooth with the steering linkages. Things were good UNTIL i noticed that my exhaust Y pipe is WELDED ( right where you removed it) suchhh a pain. But after removing the cat and a lot of finagling i finally got the exhuast off and the pan was free.. lol.

      That's crazy and fortunately you got the y pipe off. Such a lot of work just to get the oil pan off don't you think? I always wondered why they wound put the y pipe in such a position that it would make it impossible to get the pan off without removing the exhaust. Great job on your behalf to get it done!

      Enjoy. Yes, I could consider side pips as an option I guess. Especially since I've got the entire exhaust off the C3 at the moment. Was crazy to have to remove the Y shape exhaust just to get the Oil Pan off. Thanks for your comments btw. J

    If your going that far you should consider the Borgeson power steering conversion. That old power ASSIST steering is probably the reason there is oil blown back on the oil pan. It will also steer true with no play.

      That's a great option for sure and I may end up doing that at some point. I'm working heavily in the steering right now , so , yes, I'll look into it . J

    Great! This video is amazing.
    I have to ask what size Jack stand are you using?

    • @Motorcycology
      @Motorcycology  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let me check. The main jack that I used was a 3 ton low profile service jack by BlackJack. I got mine at Costco, but many stores like The Home Depot carry these type of Jacks.

      @@Motorcycology Thank you so much. I am working on mine. And am so nervous!

    So do you have a video of lifting that Baby?

    • @Motorcycology
      @Motorcycology  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't have a video of lifting it, but that would have been a good idea and probably fun to watch. I lifted each side , front and back progressively until I got the C3 up high enough. It took about an hour at most.

    Why do most people use needle nose to remove cotter pins. Grab with a pair of dykes or diagonal cutters for you amateurs and pull the cotter key out... much easier than needle nose.

      Great suggestion and I love it when I learn form the comments and techniques that other people use. J
