  • This group of finds was found in the early part of the fall of '22. The summer was slow going, but it finally started picking up! All of these were found generally in the middle TN area. Some east, some west, some from southern middle TN. Wherever the conditions are right is where I'm headed! Hope you enjoy the finds and please, like and subscribe! Feel free to comment below as well to give your thoughts on any of the artifacts.

    Your beautiful photography and presentation honors the very talented men who created these stone works of art, which to them were perhaps merely tools. But you have to imagine their sense of pride when they held these points in their hands thousands of years ago, probably just like you do.

    Your finds have lit a fire within me and generate daydreams of the world as it was when those that created these stone masterpieces roamed the hills and waterways where you now find their tools. I did a little research and discovered that prehistoric tools have been found in Tennessee at a mastadon kill/butchering site. It was a paleo site, but I don't know how long the mastadons lived on in Tennessee. There were camels and giant bison as well. Some of those very fine points you find may have been aimed at rather exotic game by today's standards. May thoughts of giant mammals further inspire you in your search for those ancient tools. Thank you for sharing them with us.

    • @Points365
      @Points365  ปีที่แล้ว

      Admiring and finding crafted artifacts from a time long gone does make a person wonder about those times and the world they lived in. Pulling a beautiful spear point from a pile of dirt that was pushed back by a bulldozer to make way for a parking garage in town really gets your mind thinking. This place we know today would be totally unrecognizable. Not that progress is a bad thing, but it still saddens me to think how pure this land once was. It also saddens me how much history is covered up by asphalt and whatnot, never to be seen again. People that try to recover and save those artifacts are usually run off like they are doing something wrong. They would rather see it be buried under a Walmart than be recovered and shared. It’s a shame. Sorry, didn’t mean to take that down a depressing path! Thank you though buddy, I appreciate the thoughtful comment!

      @@Points365 You are so right. I guess what it comes down to is that we can't stop time and we can't go back in time. Those of us who are inclined to look back in time are destined to disappear like the dinosaurs. Perhaps that is why these thoughts make me sad. We still need to come up with a way to allow your magnificent Tennessee points a life that extends past yours.

      Hey Rob. I grantee if you have the passion and interest in rock hunting. That's the most important part. Research possible areas of habitation along with any state or federal laws pertaining to collecting artifacts. Local town folks with knowledge or experience goes a long way as does knowing dirt work contractors for access to cleared land. Chances are good native Americans had camps if not full blown settlements close by you.
      Where do you live? Quick search for local Indian tribes can get you on your way.
      Warning you in advance. Once it gets under the skin it's a hard habit to quit. I'm almost positive my wife would rather I just had a drug problem. Cause drugs are easy to kick...arrowhead hunting....not so mu

    • @Points365
      @Points365  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! Like Rusty said, chances are there were probably camps near you wherever you’re at. I tend to follow the water. They depended on it for survival. Not only that, but over time artifacts tend to find their way back into creeks etc. due to the natural process of erosion and whatnot. Just keep your eyes peeled.. one day one will just pop out and reveal itself!

Haha But dude that’s awesome having a surface find in the woods! I’ve never been able to do that. I wonder how old a piece would be, being found on the surface like that? I’ve heard of people finding artifacts on top of rocks out in the woods before. It’s crazy thinking of picking one up right where it was sat down 1000’s of years ago! I found a pickwick laying on a rock years ago. It was at the waters edge on a lake though. I always wondered if erosion somehow got it to its final resting place, or of that’s where it was left behind? If only the artifacts could speak!

    Is that a bear footprint in the sand just b4 you pick up that Eva point……have ya noticed this?

    • @Points365
      @Points365  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Luckily, bears are rarely seen in these parts! I’m pretty sure that print was just the biggest raccoon ever. Judging by the size of its print, I could probably saddle up on its back and ride it off into the sunset hanging on for dear life! Haha

    Drill @ 11 minute mark, ive found a few similar associated with pine tree sites/camps here mid state. What other kinda stuff have you found associated in your area there? Mulitple component site? Pine trees?

    • @Points365
      @Points365  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The spot I found that little drill isn’t a big producer for me. Over the years it’s spit out multiple dovetails, a couple lost lakes, 1 pine tree, 1 elk river, a broken beaver lake, broken Cumberland, and multiple little unifaced scrapers. That’s about all I can recall picking up there over the years. That little drill was the only one like it that I’ve found there.

Thanks again for coming back to check out the finds! I’ll have 1 more vid out before the end of the year. I’m about 3 months behind on releasing videos of artifacts I’ve found!

    Great mix of points. Liked that snapped base Kirk. Do you come across any shell middens?I have just never seen any in your videos. When I was out in my area they were all over.

    • @Points365
      @Points365  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks buddy! That snap base was a dandy. Looks like they made it then dropped it. But you know, I do see shells scattered quite often. As far as middens go. I see them every now and then. Some are large, some are small. I typically don’t find anything whole at or near middens. On the outskirts for sure, and some neat pieces of broken pottery. A lot of the older sites I hunt, I think the shells have long since deteriorated. It’s neat seeing them for sure! Thanks as always buddy!

    Upper East Tennessee here. TVA abounds. They bully anyone along the rivers.
    "Just take a picture " , they say.
    Any advice without hurting yourself?
    Edit: I'm 60, medically retired Rx due to retina disease but God has preserved much more vision than expected.. the Dr's cried!
    Going crazy after 6 yrs of no work.
    Daniel Boone walked thru my property and d Crockett born about 40 miles away.
    2 miles from Great Indian Warpath which headed north.
    Dan'l started his Wilderness Trail 6 miles away on the Long Island of the Holston.
    Stuff is everywhere and so is the gub'mint.
    What do I do?

    • @Points365
      @Points365  ปีที่แล้ว

      Man… I hear about peoples TVA woes often and am yet to have a negative encounter with them or TWRA. I’ve found my encounters to be quite friendly. I am of course respectful, honest, and just walking along with my walking stick obviously not out maliciously digging or anything. They usually enjoy seeing what I’ve found and wish me luck as we part. I’m sure the people they encounter in a particular area set the tone for how they deal with everyone. They can surely tell the difference between an innocent collector and one of the notorious crack heads that give our hobby a bad reputation.
      I can appreciate your desire to explore with your remaining vision. My father is now legally blind due to macular degeneration. Your sight is one of those things that’s taken for granted until it’s in jeopardy. Hopefully my encounters are encouraging for you and don’t put you in an awkward situation if you do decide to get out exploring. You can always tell em you’re looking for fossils or lures! You’ll surely find some of those to show them if they decide to approach you!

      Anytime buddy! I read the autobiography on Crockett recently. It was an interesting read. The autobiography on Daniel Boone was another good read. The audiobooks for both are free to download via many apps and whatnot if reading isn’t as easy.

      Sorry bud. I don’t really have any narrative to add. I don’t know my materials. I don’t know my artifact types. I don’t even like hearing myself talk. I let the sounds of nature play it’s beautiful sound as you watch artifacts being found, as if you’re there yourself.

      Hey man, I know the material is kind of hard to see in this video with the lighting and whatnot. I’m not really sure what type of material it is, but I do know it’s not dover. That usually has a brindle look to it. I find quite a bit of that material, and it’s one of my favs! I’m not the best at id’ing material types though.. but dover is one I do know! Thanks for checking it out!
