If my memory serves me right, a lazy villager will be intimidated by how “cool” your roach friends are and that’s their excuse for not wanting to stay over 😂
they say something like you already having a guest over as if the roach was another villager, making it so they cant hang out since you are already hanging out with the roach
In New Leaf when you go diving, you can sometimes get stung by a jellyfish if you aren't paying attention. It doesn't really do much, you just stay in place rubbing your ass for a while.
Nothing scared me more then when Resetti got me in wild world and I couldn’t be let go because I couldn’t spell the apology properly, I was in tears, I still find it funny today
I'll never forget how excited I got when a friend at school told me you could type "I hate you" and he'd get even madder, and it actually worked. Years later I found out there's actually a ton of things you can type that will set him off lol
Lol when I was a kid I had to restart my day once because I talked to Lyle but I didn’t have enough money to purchase “insurance”. So I got trapped in this dialogue loop and had to just shut off my game 😂
@@Eaten_squid_cake When I was a kid playing wild world I couldn’t re-type the sentence properly to resetti and he wouldn’t leave so I actually had to reset my whole town and I was so upset 🤣🤣 I don’t miss him

Tarantulas and scorpions have been around for a long time in animal crossing, being introduced in Wild World. I have this vivid memory of seeing a tarantula for the first time in City Folk and being really scared.
The *sound* the tarantulas made in Wild World was unnerving. The very first time I encountered one, it was behind Nook's shop, so I couldn't see it, but I heard the noise, and then my screen irised out because I got bit. Having never experienced that before, I didn't know what to think!
On that same note, the messy hair that you can't fix without going to Shampoodle was also in New Leaf, and items disappearing if you have too much stuff on the ground has been in pretty much every game.
I started with Wild World, and to this day have yet to catch a tarantula or scorpion. I just get so scared when I see them they vanish before I get close. And now I live in the dessert!
I have such a weird nostalgia for Resetti in Wild World. As the one kid who understood English well enough in a small Norwegian town I was the one who had to help my friends when something needed translating. And usually it was Resetti. It was normal for us to just not read anything in games, just plow on through. So Resetti was naturally a HUGE roadblock for most because we'd just spam A but no matter how much we did that Resetti wouldn't go away! I was somehow the first one to think to maybe actually read what was being said and quickly found out all you had to do was write what he said in pink text. Still, 90% of the time we'd just write whatever English insults or swear words we knew at him :') Telling Resetti to fuck off was peak humor for us
I had this same problem, except I just wasn't able to read well yet. That guy ruined my animal crossing session and I couldn't ask for help because I'd taken the game from my siblings and I couldn't blow my cover
Cruel punishment from AC Gamecube: an animal decides to look through your inventory and take a random item just because you spoke to them. They take that super-rare, super-expensive item you got like 3 minutes ago and you have no way to get it back. After that, you learned to "protect" the item by inserting it into some mail.
This happened to me once with an item that I thought looked pretty and was excited about. Fricking Peanut stole my holly bonsai. It's a big reason why I'm one of the few people who actually prefer the modern nicer villagers. The old meaner villagers made the game worse for me and took away from the relaxing vibes.
Geez, I remember in New Leaf and New Horizons when villagers would “ask” if they could have something, even trying to bribe me. But as someone who’s never played the original GameCube version? Good lord, they really were bullies to you!
It's hard to look past nostalgia sometimes but man... Older AC titles really did have some terrible features. I've been playing since the GameCube release and the earlier games were often more stressful than fun
Yeah, I figured. Now that I’m aware of it, I don’t think anyone really wins with the tanning mechanic. It just leads to people getting stuck with the wrong skin tones, in your case having to maintain it and straight up not being able to past summer, in my case getting a tone I don’t want just for playing every day. I think it’s safe to say NH adding the ability to just select skin tones was leagues better.
Why not both though if they keep enforcing the connection of the ingame clock with the real time clock? Having options for your look and being able to tan is not mutually exclusive imho. When I got a tan RL, I enjoyed deliberately "giving" my character a tan as well. :3
2:36 this is actually a thing in japan, when people from specialized companies knock on your door and try to sell you scam products like idk, miracle cream that makes you look younger, or water from some random mountain etc... but super expensive, They are just so convincing youre almost forced to buy it I think its implemented in the game to educate the kids to not open the door to those scams
Also used to be a thing in europe, but seemed to Die down a little bit after the 80s when the inertnet became a thing. Plus in my country they woecfically targeted houswives in the middle of the day
@@Jo.j.13-l9vIt's still a thing in France. But usually instead of a product, they try to get you to change your energy provider by acting like you're getting a discount on your contract.
I think you missed this one older animal crossing game that punished you for literally just walking around in your town. The idea was that natural paths could be created that way but in praxis there were really ugly grassless spots everywhere
I disagree with the tanning being a punishment. The original Japanese version of AC didn't have tanning and it was added in the US release before they added it in to the plus version. So it was less a punishment and more of a roundabout way to get a character with darker skin before character customization was a thing.
Yeah if that was a "punishment" that would be very wrong of them to do. Still... I don't like the fact that I had to wear a mii mask for my character to have the same skin tone as me. I don't mind playing as a white character. But, only if customization isn't a thing. When it is, I'm hoping that I can make my character have a brown skin tone. Glad that pokemon did that once customization was available for the first time in x/y.
Clearly it wasn’t intended as a punishment, but it acts that way in practice. It forces people who want darker skin to have prolonged sessions and then keep coming back to maintain it, and it forces those who don’t to limit their playtime or else not have their skin tone match. This is what nobody wins looks like. I got tanned hard in my recent OG AC playthrough, and now I’m just throwing my hands up and putting it down for a week or so just to try and reset it. Bottom line, having a means of customizing skin tone is actually a problem when it’s this intrusive to change in either direction.
15:58 Fun Fact about this plant. It actually really exists and it's name is Rafflesia. This plant lures flies and some other insects, because it looks and smells like rotten meat and when they sit on this plant it will eat the flies.
Slight correction: Rafflesia are *not* carnivorous plants, they attract the flies so they act as pollinators to the flower. It does smell really bad, though. But it does not eat the flies
@@GodMaxDrinkerofTea Oh! Good that you mentioned that! When I read again through the articles about this plant it said they eat the flies. Thanks for correcting me :)
@@Deadgirl97 Yup. They were according to the actual Animal Crossing lore. However, in City Folk, their scheme was eventually noticed. And while Redd snuck away (Just like how he snuck away with all the money from Nook) Lyle's days of being a con was over and he moved onto doing real jobs. In City Folk, he worked for the HRA, though he didn't really like the job. In New Leaf, Tom Nook gave him a job to represent HRA at Nook's Real Estate business, eventually getting a job for his niece as well.
New Leaf gives you messy hair too where you have to go to Shampoodle to get it fixed. It also has the balloon thing where if the present falls in a bunch of flowers, you lose it.
In New Leaf, I have a ton of paint designs on the floor. Because of this, I almost never get the present from the balloons. I also noticed when chopping down trees, some fruit that lands on the floor designs also disappears. Fustrating!
I had a new one this week. I noticed I wasn't getting any more lily of the valleys--so I went to check on my rating. I was told that I had TOO MANY TREES on my island and it was seen as being TOO RURAL by visitors, so I was demoted to a 4 star rating!
i was stuck with 4-stars on my old island because i had an area that was a "traffic hazard"; i found out that the area in question was a strip of pergolas lined up, with castle gates surrounding them, to be a sort of aesthetic covered walkway. shame that it took me down to 4 stats, but it was too pretty to tear down, so i just sucked it up lol
I'm in a weird limbo. I have a 5 start rating still but only 1 lily of the valley has spawned. It's been months and still none have spawned. I have no clue what I'm doing wrong.
@@destanielamon8848 Do you have enough floor space for them to spawn in? My island was being overrun with flowers at one point so I placed clear designs on the ground everywhere that didn't have flowers. Took me a minute before realising why that was probably a bad idea lmao
In Animal Crossing New Leaf, it was even worse. If it was Halloween and a villager came up to you and you didn't have candy they would straight up change your clothes to something hideous. And there was no way to get your old clothes back either lmao
The gyroid face in ac gcn also happens if you reset during Rover's dialogue at the beginning. I found out because I messed up and selected the wrong option for the face type I wanted. Being a kid who was really into creepypasta, I was convinced that I was being haunted when my character came out like that lol.
Are you sure? I just tested it out and I did not get the Gyroid face. The game doesn't create an auto-save when you are talking to Rover during character creation, and since it doesn't auto-save the game won't be able to load a Gyroid character, since as far as the game is concerned the character you just tried to make does not exist. Are you sure you're not confusing it with the train scene? Rover does talk to you on the train when traveling to another world. O.o
@@RisaKazura idk, maybe. This is a memory from forever ago so it's possible I'm wrong. But I didn't have friends who played AC as a kid so I would only be traveling between 2 of my own towns, which I didn't do often. Maybe it depends at what time you reset during the intro--in my memory it was after I saw the character's face, not exactly during the dialogue?
Two of the worst punishments I got in the Animal Crossing series: 1) Wild World: I’m not sure if my memory’s correct or not since it’s been a long time, but you can get roaches because of how “ugly” your house interior looks! HHA practically saying “Your house is so ugly we gave it roaches as punishment” (Edit: I haven’t seen any evidence of that happening to other players, so it might have been a Mandela Effect or something? If you had similar experience in Wild World, please let me know!) 2) New Horizons: I had too many flowers all over the island, and I decided to tidy up the island and remove most of the unwanted flowers. Apparently, Isabelle did not like that idea and dropped my island’s star rank from 4 stars to 2 stars! I was pretty frustrated too, because the island looked MUCH BETTER with the flower overgrowth finally under control… (Thank goodness it doesn’t undo your progress when you first reach 3 stars)
While yes, these days you can look up the artwork to tell if it's fake or not, back in Wild World (where fakes were introduced) and City Folk... there was no visual indicator if the art was fake or not. You had to hope and pray that the art was real. I used to get so frustrated with Redd that I'd hit his tent with an axe in Wild World because he kept selling me art that turned out to be fake- a rage I still feel to this day, over a decade after I first played Wild World. In New Horizons, the blue Plushie Muffler Coat has an orange fox plush like a scarf, and I like to wear that as a warning to Redd that I'm not playing around. There was a rumor back in the day that Redd's reaction would determine if art was real or not, but as far as I can tell... that just wasn't a thing.
Thanks for the warning I bought wild world as I never really played any before new leaf. I got past this by making 4 players for redd alone to help in my new leaf art museum. Can I use this same method in wild world?
@@Twinklethefox9022 Before New Leaf, Redd wasn't only an art seller. If I remember right, he sold 3 items- usually 1 artwork and 2 furniture items, I think. So for donating the art, 4 players wouldn't help. However, since all players in Wild World share a house, 4 players would make getting rid of the debt easier. You could, for example, make players, delete the secondary players after they do the chores for Tom Nook, rinse and repeat. Not a fast or fun way to paying off your home loan, but an option nonetheless.
@@AnAverageGoblin from nookipedia: "Prior to New Leaf, there is no way to determine whether a piece of art is fake or not prior to purchasing it" I think there were rumors that you could, but they were false.
In the original up to city folk, there were no visual differences to fake and genuine art. So it was all a gamble if you got a genuine artwork. I like that they added the differences in new leaf and new horizons
I read through the comments, and didn't see anyone mention in AC Gamecube, the villagers when talked to will randomly trade items with you. You could have just caught your first coelacanth, and a villager comes along and trades you for some mf stationary.
The "villagers moving without warning" thing was the WORST for me. I never had that many problems with New Leaf, because once I got it, I played almost nonstop. Every day, every night, and I would stay up late just to walk around my town and talk to everyone else in the town who ALSO stayed up late. Even when I stopped playing and wouldn't play for a month or so, my villagers all stayed around. No sudden heartbreaking letters, thoughts of moving...None of that! But the one day I couldn't play because I didn't have time to, due to school... Coco, one of my favorite villagers ever, moved away without warning. I was SO sad.
4:32 I remember hearing somewhere that this is actually a fail safe put in place to ensure that your character’s face doesn’t become an incomprehensible mess of corruption. Spooky!
in our city folk town as a kid, tom nook gave the “hey what do you look for in a store?” dialogue to my dad, and since he always played the game at like 5am (he got up early), he said “good hours.” we were all so peeved when we found out he’d caused our store to revert to nook n go lmao.
in Wild World I remember actually stopping some of my villagers from moving several times. When I caught my favorite ones packed up to move the next day I would just pester them and tell them not to leave several times, and sent them letters with gifts, pleading them to stay. Then they'd be back to normal by the next day.
I think in Wild World, Tom Nook knows if you time travel to speed up the process so he will intentionally have crappy turnip prices every day of the week.
I've been playing ACNH again recently and have been maintaining a 7+ nook miles check in streak because I play daily, and remembered this video when the town hall was undergoing maintenance (upgrade from tent to town hall) so I couldn't check in. I was upset that I was going to lose my streak because the bonus 300 nook miles a day is pretty nice, but if you check in the day after the hall is constructed, the ATM will actually give you 500 miles as an apology for the maintenance making the ATM unavailable that day, as well as set your streak to 7+ the next day. I thought that was neat.
it bothers me when people call the wasps "bees" because you can see when you catch them it's a "wasp" and the item dropped is "wasp nests", not to mention there's also "honeybee" in game that flies around flowers and can be scared off
If I recall, they were called bees in New Leaf (and probably prior games, but I haven't played those personally). So there were bees that would sting and harmless honeybees, I think that's probably where people saying "bee" instead of "wasp" stems from
almost certain tarantulas and scorpions have been in the games since like wild world and arent new to new horizons. used to be super scared of them as a kid
New Leaf Bunny Day might have been one of the worst punishments ever. A bunch of fake rocks would spawn all over your island, and if you didn't break all of them before the day was up, then they would turn into real rocks. And it's not like in New Horizons where you can eat a fruit to get stronk and smash the rocks, this was literally a permanent negative effect on your island, unless you hacked to remove them. I literally never touched the game on Bunny Day out of fear of missing a rock.
@@EmblemCrossing So they updated the game to remove the rocks during the construction? Then that wasn't really a punishment but more of a very horrible oversight in their part.
Ok I have to add a rant here. I was playing during bunny day in new horizons (when the event was toned down) and I got a fortune that guarantees that I get a gold nugget from my rocks at random. And I think it only happens on my island and no kappn' or nook mile island (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that part) anyways I hit all my rocks and the regular rocks, that would have had the guaranteed golden Nugget, was nothing but clay and eggs!!! I was so angry about that. Luckily when that event was over the next day, I got the same fortune and was able to reclaim what that event took from me.
Despite having the best connection with Lucky on new leaf, he'd constantly talk about moving away. Like, no, shut up please and kiss me, you can try plenty of "new flavors" here... What a contrived reason!
Pretty sure tatantulas and scorpions have been around since Population growing. They were why I never wanted to play at night, I was terrified of them.
Fun fact about the big ugly flower 16:00 , it's called the Rafflesia arnoldii and when in bloom, the Rafflesia emits a repulsive odor, similar to that of rotting meat. This odor attracts insects that pollinate the plant. So essentially you got a giant stinky flower.
Lol, when I was a kid I got a used copy of Wild World at Gamestop where Resetti was at his limit. I didn't know I had to repeat what he was telling me to say, so I got pretty upset. In AC New Leaf, my second AC game, I was doing that island multiplayer thing and someone I got all buddy buddy with gave me a basket of perfect oranges with 0 oranges. It gave me unlimited perfect oranges. That was cool.
I guess you could say that the punishment for being stung by wasps is worse than being stung by bees. In AC and ACWW, the first time, you got the familiar swollen eyelids, sure, but subsequent times didn't do anything additional or make it worse, even if you were stung all five times. In ACNH, however, the second time in a day you got stung (if you didn't take medicine) would cause you to faint and appear in front of your home. (Of course, in both cases, there's also the punishment that you don't get the insect to sell or donate to the museum, but that's also the punishment for escaping them instead of catching them.) I remember tarantulas in Wild World. I also remember one time in Wild World when I didn't even have enough Bells on hand to pay for the minimum insurance plan. There was no way to get Lyle to understand that and leave me alone. I think I had to turn the game off.
I'm gonna make an edit if this one's in it: In NL, if you get too many correct Brewster orders in a row, you actually stop getting the best rewards until you get some wrong orders again, because the game will think you're using an online guide
please never stop these little fact videos they fuel my weekly hyper fixation on animal crossing its like playing the game just without the effort of charging my little switch lite xoxo
The creepy gyroid face is actually intentional! In the Nintendo Power Player's Guide for the game, they mention it as a creepy zombie face (or something similar, I don't remember the exact wording)
Did you never shake a tree with an insect catching net equipped? New Horizons makes it really easy to catch the wasps, as long as the nest drops in the spot opposite to yours.
Eh... I've had moments in new horizons where waps have avoided my net and then came to sting me. I'll try to explain. I was on a cliff and shook a tree. A wasp nest fell down and I tried to catch them. Well, the swarm dove down right when I hit a and didn't have time to redo it. They came from the other side and stung me. Another bad moment was when I was trying to catch a wasp but what I didn't know was that a tarantula spotted me and ran over to wait. The moment the animation of shock was over, I got bit and fainted. I had to record that moment because I was so confused. I also had moment where it fell near a villager and I either talked to them or hit them instead. Still easier than in new leaf.
@@Twinklethefox9022 You have to stand at the right spot, one step in front of and then one to the right or the left of the tree trunk, while the nest drops on the counterpart of these spots. The game will turn you towards the swarm, and all you have to do is press A. If you are standing in a different spot, you will have no chance.
@@gabbyn978 yeah I know, I was right at the perfect spot and my character turned to face them so she could catch them. The wasps literally avoided the net and swooped down so they could sting me on the other side. Like sometimes I can't control it. Like when a villager happens to be right next to them and I talk to them by accident instead of catching the wasps. Or one time I was trying to catch them but a tarantula snuck behind me and bit me before I could catch it.
One not mentioned was in the Gamecube version, during some dialogue trees with villages if you picked an option that was a lie, they would call you out and take all the bells you had on you. Could be a major blow if you had a few hundred thousand on you at the time.
I remember when I learned there's a dialogue guide for Redd in Wild World which was helpful when I was playing I also remember in Wild World if you went into a villager's house when their room was packed up to move you could talk to them enough times & certain dialogue would stop them from moving. I have a note for this because at one point I recognized the dialogue patterns like for grumpy characters say "What? Really? Well, maybe I'll consider... But I'll expect some strong display of affection!", snooty would be like "Well if we got more visitors then maybe I'll stay"(despite saying this this is them choosing to stay), jocks will be like "say your piece if you must" before freaking out that they lost their passport.(Dunno if they're making that up as an excuse to stay or actually lost it) Some go by names because I had no idea what their personalities were called so Gladys & Mitzi happened to be one of the times there was two kinds of dialogue for cancelling their move were they mention your said face makes them want to stay or say that if you want them to stay so badly they'll think on it leading to being unpacked the next day while acting like nothing ever happened. Rosie would be like "well I suppose I'll stay but what do I do about the cancellation penalty?"(Guessing she paid a mover) while Punchy(it's ironic, looking at the note now I realize this was the lazy villagers but it was hard to tell back then & I didn't know to look it up) will be like "I didn't expect you to respond like that" & then you get to choose a dialogue choice("Don't leave me" is what I chose) & then he'll say he'll sleep on it as a sign he's staying.
I remember in animal crossing wild world I would on purposely turn off my ds with out saving so I would get me resetti because for some reason in my 8 year old brain it was so funny to see him mad and I would laugh so hard when he would get mad at me lolll
the truest form of animal crossing punishment happened to me several years ago when i decided to pick up wild world again i hadn't played in several years, so my town was a wreck. i made it my mission to pull up ALL the weeds in one sitting and intended to keep it that way. i was about halfway done when i dropped my dsi and the cartridge came out. so not only did i lose around 2 hours of progress, i also had to deal with resetti the next time i booted up the game. i did not play for another few months after that 😂
These videos are so detailed! Really love how much charm is added to the world with subtle nuances like villager’s reactions when gifting them trash or by having them over when there’s cockroaches
3:05 you can actually get Lyle to not sell you insurance by telling him you're all set with everything, and that's how you get a claim on forged art. Then the king tut helmet pays out when running. When I learned that I never took it off.
I remember there being tarantulas in City Folk, but only at night. I remember one attacked me, I blacked out and ended up at home. So I never played at night again
You seriously have the most creative Animal Crossing video ideas. Your AC playlist is a joy to binge during the work day or while doing other tasks throughout the day! Thank you!
In city folk your grass will flat out disappear when you walk on it enough. Your whole town can become all dirt which essentially means you can’t get snow anymore. It’s in new leaf too but not nearly as bad.
When I was a kid playing New Leaf, I had my favorite villager move out, and it made me so sad that I'd check the game every day. I'd get so stressed trying to locate every villager so I could talk to them
There was a new leaf glitch with walking with your net super slow, if you walked as slow as possible you’d walk into solid objects and if you walked onto the boat on the dock you would get stunned like getting bit by a tarantula and sent back to “spawn”
If I remember right, if you buy Lyle’s insurance policy and you get stung by bees then he sends you 300 bells in the mail the next day because of his insurance policy you bought from him. At the least that’s how I remembered him as a kid when I last played Wild World.
I had nightmares about Resetti from the ages of 4-9. Not all the time but on and off enough to keep me scared lol. I got a DS and started playing games before I knew how to read, I usually just vibed it out until I came to a written task. Didn’t know what saving was. Every time I’d close the game and go back, he’d pop out and start yelling at me. Sometimes you can just click through but one time it gave me a slider scale and said “HOW SORRY ARE YOU” and I couldn’t read so I never played animal crossing again until I was 17 and New Horizons came out. I’m a grown woman, he still makes me nervous.
I vaguely remember them being catchable in one of the games, but I don't remember which one, or how they spawned. I only know because I have a faint memory of trying to squish one in the museum and getting a message from Blathers on an intercom basically going "This is a friendly reminder to please avoid stepping on the donations."
Yeah once I was playing wild world and caught a hammerhead shark and my town had so many things on the ground where I caught it and my pockets were full of objects only so it forced me to release it
I really liked the tan mechanic, because for me as a kid, such things kind of made the world feel more alive which spurned my imagination on Little things like getting a tan from being out in the sun all day, gave layers to stories I would think up and made them more vivid ^^
I'm glad they toned down the Halloween event in new horizons. I rather have my character get a face paint rather than getting my items replaced. Also I'm not sure if you'll talk about bed hair in new leaf because it's like the same thing as well as the older games. Speaking of balloons... I lost one today by walking into a store and it flew by right when I was in the animation. With pitfall seeds, I remember many times that I tried to dig them up in new leaf and somehow, glitched and my character was on top of it. Of course, she fell in. I time traveled wrong and lost 2 villagers due to it. I lost a bunch of perfect pear trees because a villager moved on that plot in new leaf. I'll just sum it up here... The older games where hard core and very unfair.
One time in New Horizons I got a 4 star rating for the first time, but the chief complaint was that I had too many trees, so I cut down a lot of them. The next day, I checked my rating, and I WAS DEMOTED BACK DOWN TO 3 STARS BECAUSE MY ISLAND WAS LACKING SCENERY. I was able to get it back up to 4 stars later, but still that made me mad
I always thought a really good life lesson from animal crossing although I guess not technically a punishment per se more of just something you have to be cautious of was getting stung by bees when you shake trees. I remember talking to my dad on the phone he was a little bit into animal crossing (which was rare because he wasn't really big on video games) and he went online and looked up easy ways to make money and find furniture in the game and told me about shaking trees and I told him I was afraid to get stung by bees and he told me well sometimes you have to take risk in life to get ahead and sometimes you might get stung and honestly I don't know if the developers intended it like that but I've always thought it was an incredible life lesson
remember in new leaf when a villager you really wanted to move had the idea to leave the town and you said: sure! they actually changed their minds and stayed 🦭
I had the gamecube version & city folk as a kid. Resetti genuinely scared me so much every time. Most of the time I had just accidentally done it too, so knowing he would come was horrifying for me when i was little
Gyroid face and cleared inventory is an intentional punishment. Other youtubers have taken a deep dive into the code and found records from interviews that confirm this.
The Gyro face in the first game has been confirmed to be intentional - there's code in the game to execute it in that specific situation, and it's referenced in an official player's guide. Since you save at Gyros, its essentially Nintendo strongly reminding you to save your progress.
I dunno about you but if I was very close friends with one of my neighbors, I would tell them before I moved. It’s kinda a dick move to just disappear without saying goodbye 😂
I disagree strongly. I was time traveling a bit to get a campsite villager in new leaf and bonbon was randomly in boxes. I talked to her and everyone else in town before skipping a day and she randomly left. Why do people find this game relaxing?
True, but by one side is also kinda annoying, cuz sometimes you have a dream villager it took long to get and just because you dont play for some days they might move out. When i was a kid i had Stitches in my WW town and when he moved out i cried XD
@@moonamoonz after all the heartache new leaf gave to me (both when I was and wasn't time traveling) I just gave in and bought me the new 3ds. Its actually a pretty galaxy color. Anyways, I have lobo moved in. I also have some plans for who I want to let go of and those I want to keep. Speaking of, I want to move in a villager I already had 3 years ago. Will the game let me even though she might still be in my town? I miss Portia so much and I lost her by an accidental time travel.
@@maggiesducksYeah, but if you were set on moving somewhere, you wouldn't decide to stay just because your friend begged you to. Sometimes people need to leave, even people we really love. Animal Crossing used to teach kids that. Now it teaches them if they beg and scream and cry enough, they'll make people bend to their will.
I remember when I was 7 playing the game and when resetti would come I’d cry because I didn’t understand you’d have to type the phrases GRAMMATICALLY correct word for word. Literally sat for an hour typing and retyping then cried to my mom about it. Very humbling experience.
Incase someone doesn’t know if you shake the tree with a net and you’re standing at the front of the tree you can just catch them everytime. I’m sure someone commented it already but I didn’t see it!
Back in my day it took hours of monotony to pick all the weeds from time travel. Sometimes I'd stay up late looking for help from a GHOST, but then when I tried to help the ghost in exchange for 'please pick these weeds' he'd give me this task to find a bunch of lost spirits... and I still don't know how those dang spirits spawn in but I swear to you, half the time they'd appear over something like a lake or a cliff where I can't reach them, and then when I finally figured out how to get over they're, they're already gone! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaugh also flowers used to wilt if you didn't water them, and losing your flower bed of impossibly perfect hybrid Blue Roses forever to this is torture.
You rarely mention new leaf. It has the same messy hair punishment btw. Tarantulas and Scorpions also existed in that game before new horizons. Its a jump scare.
The gyroid face is COMPLETELY intentional! There's different face versions for different things such as a bee sting! It's weird how people debate this as a glitch or not.
I just started animal crossing 5 days and i love it your content is amazing im learning so much about the game and the game’s history I genuinely appreciate your hard work putting all these videos together
One time a villager on my island made my face a different color on Halloween, and i didnt know how to change it back, so I was stuck with it for like a year until my cousin told me how to fix it!
The only reason people were being banned and being reported was because of a TH-camr by the name of versify he was constantly telling people to report users so that way he would be the good guy even though he was just the harasser I was not one of those people who had star trees because I stay away from those for any reason but people were always mad at him and then he was put to blame For at all
@@midwesternpolymath agreed he thinks since they beat his butt they’re cheating lol there was this one video I remember where he lost so badly that he claimed that they were cheating. I looked over everything and they were not so he was just plain up lying.
Cant believe you didnt bring up how running on your island REMOVES THE GRASS pre acnh. You could literally end up with an island with not a single blade of grass left just because you ran instead of walking
Grass wear was BRUTAL in City Folk. Playing every day would easily turn your town into a barren brown wasteland. This was somewhat fixed in New Leaf, but it still takes effort to fix the worn out sections...
In gamecube on Halloween villagers would steal your belongings in trade for jack in the boxes and old moldy stuff if you didn't have candy, I also remember the first time my face glitched and that was terrifying the first time and funny but frustrating every time subsequently
Something I think you may have got wrong is the Tarantula and Scorpion being added recently, unless you count Wild World to be a recent game, which was the first appearance of those bugs, and have appeared in every subsequent game since
I remember in early games that the flowers would disappear if you ran through them 3 times. In City Folk, if you discarded/dropped trash out in the open, you would get booed and I think some sort of score went down.
When I first played New Horizons, and I shook a tree that bees fell out of, I had no idea you catch them with a net to avoid getting stung. When I found that out, it was a literal game changer. On a separate note, bubblegum KK is my favorite out of all the KK tracks!
For the roaches one, I think they should have made it so that lazy villagers don’t get affected since they always talk about their bug friends.
Genius
If my memory serves me right, a lazy villager will be intimidated by how “cool” your roach friends are and that’s their excuse for not wanting to stay over 😂
The lazy villager says “OH MY GOD! AN AWSOME LOOKIN ROACH! Sorry I’m not ready for this company. I need to dress up for the roach.” And leaves.
they say something like you already having a guest over as if the roach was another villager, making it so they cant hang out since you are already hanging out with the roach

In New Leaf when you go diving, you can sometimes get stung by a jellyfish if you aren't paying attention. It doesn't really do much, you just stay in place rubbing your ass for a while.

I quit the game after a scorpion, I'm still scared.
i had a net equipped and a scorpion spawned right outside of tom nook's store after i exited i got jumpscared lol.
Still, 90% of the time we'd just write whatever English insults or swear words we knew at him :') Telling Resetti to fuck off was peak humor for us
this is the cutest thing ever
I had this same problem, except I just wasn't able to read well yet. That guy ruined my animal crossing session and I couldn't ask for help because I'd taken the game from my siblings and I couldn't blow my cover
Cruel punishment from AC Gamecube: an animal decides to look through your inventory and take a random item just because you spoke to them. They take that super-rare, super-expensive item you got like 3 minutes ago and you have no way to get it back. After that, you learned to "protect" the item by inserting it into some mail.
ahhhh mail, the original storage system
This happened to me once with an item that I thought looked pretty and was excited about. Fricking Peanut stole my holly bonsai.
It's a big reason why I'm one of the few people who actually prefer the modern nicer villagers. The old meaner villagers made the game worse for me and took away from the relaxing vibes.
Geez, I remember in New Leaf and New Horizons when villagers would “ask” if they could have something, even trying to bribe me.
But as someone who’s never played the original GameCube version? Good lord, they really were bullies to you!
@@Crystalluss Glad to know I'm not the only one. 😭
It's hard to look past nostalgia sometimes but man... Older AC titles really did have some terrible features. I've been playing since the GameCube release and the earlier games were often more stressful than fun
I LOVED the tan mechanic, before they added darker skin tones-that’s all I had. 😂
did it work in the winter in the older games? I know in AC:NL you could to the island anytime of the year
@@stormhought in the winter, the tan would disappear
Yeah, I figured. Now that I’m aware of it, I don’t think anyone really wins with the tanning mechanic. It just leads to people getting stuck with the wrong skin tones, in your case having to maintain it and straight up not being able to past summer, in my case getting a tone I don’t want just for playing every day.
I think it’s safe to say NH adding the ability to just select skin tones was leagues better.
@@isenokami7810 yeah, miles better
Why not both though if they keep enforcing the connection of the ingame clock with the real time clock? Having options for your look and being able to tan is not mutually exclusive imho. When I got a tan RL, I enjoyed deliberately "giving" my character a tan as well. :3
2:36 this is actually a thing in japan, when people from specialized companies knock on your door and try to sell you scam products like idk, miracle cream that makes you look younger, or water from some random mountain etc... but super expensive, They are just so convincing youre almost forced to buy it
I think its implemented in the game to educate the kids to not open the door to those scams
It’s also in america 😅 Salesmen who come to the door. Not really a thing anymore though with online being an effective way to scam people now!
Also used to be a thing in europe, but seemed to Die down a little bit after the 80s when the inertnet became a thing. Plus in my country they woecfically targeted houswives in the middle of the day

Or racism
@@isenokami7810who cares honestly. I never care about my appearance in ac gc. If you’re really so bothered, get a parasol
I was thinking the same! It might be a punishment for people who weren’t dark skinned, but a feature for everyone who didn’t want to look white…
15:58 Fun Fact about this plant. It actually really exists and it's name is Rafflesia. This plant lures flies and some other insects, because it looks and smells like rotten meat and when they sit on this plant it will eat the flies.

New Leaf gives you messy hair too where you have to go to Shampoodle to get it fixed. It also has the balloon thing where if the present falls in a bunch of flowers, you lose it.
Oh I learned the hard way that in New Horizons, that feature freaking stayed. I had a Balloon fall into my rare flower garden, and it disappeared.

I vividly remember the villagers changing all my favorite clothes to rags and I would then do all I could to get them out of my towb
That stupid ass feature made me sell my game as a kid. Thought it meant my game was broken (read: cursed) and I didn't want to play anymore
Two of the worst punishments I got in the Animal Crossing series:
1) Wild World: I’m not sure if my memory’s correct or not since it’s been a long time, but you can get roaches because of how “ugly” your house interior looks! HHA practically saying “Your house is so ugly we gave it roaches as punishment”
(Edit: I haven’t seen any evidence of that happening to other players, so it might have been a Mandela Effect or something? If you had similar experience in Wild World, please let me know!)
2) New Horizons: I had too many flowers all over the island, and I decided to tidy up the island and remove most of the unwanted flowers.
Love the idea of you walking into his shop wearing fox fur and he's just trying to play it cool.

fr and if I remember correctly you cannot deny the trade 😅 so you often got stuck trading something you needed for garbage
Spooky!
plus you can use it in normal gameplay with some save editing
in our city folk town as a kid, tom nook gave the “hey what do you look for in a store?” dialogue to my dad, and since he always played the game at like 5am (he got up early), he said “good hours.” we were all so peeved when we found out he’d caused our store to revert to nook n go lmao.
in Wild World I remember actually stopping some of my villagers from moving several times.
If you use the in-game clock, maybe. But I think moving forward with the system clock was fine.

Tarantulas were definitely in new leaf at least. Scorpions may have been new though.
I always avoid bunny day in New Leaf.
You can just remove one day by day by making a new town project nearby the rock
@aikesscs You couldn't, you weren't able to place pwp too close to a rock, it wouldn't let you.
We lived in different times..
(Of course, in both cases, there's also the punishment that you don't get the insect to sell or donate to the museum, but that's also the punishment for escaping them instead of catching them.)
I remember tarantulas in Wild World.
I also remember one time in Wild World when I didn't even have enough Bells on hand to pay for the minimum insurance plan. There was no way to get Lyle to understand that and leave me alone. I think I had to turn the game off.

Did you never shake a tree with an insect catching net equipped? New Horizons makes it really easy to catch the wasps, as long as the nest drops in the spot opposite to yours.
i think it by default it drops opposite to you, no? unless you have something in the way.

One not mentioned was in the Gamecube version, during some dialogue trees with villages if you picked an option that was a lie, they would call you out and take all the bells you had on you. Could be a major blow if you had a few hundred thousand on you at the time.
I remember when I learned there's a dialogue guide for Redd in Wild World which was helpful when I was playing
I also remember in Wild World if you went into a villager's house when their room was packed up to move you could talk to them enough times & certain dialogue would stop them from moving. I have a note for this because at one point I recognized the dialogue patterns like for grumpy characters say "What? Really? Well, maybe I'll consider... But I'll expect some strong display of affection!", snooty would be like "Well if we got more visitors then maybe I'll stay"(despite saying this this is them choosing to stay), jocks will be like "say your piece if you must" before freaking out that they lost their passport.(Dunno if they're making that up as an excuse to stay or actually lost it)
Some go by names because I had no idea what their personalities were called so Gladys & Mitzi happened to be one of the times there was two kinds of dialogue for cancelling their move were they mention your said face makes them want to stay or say that if you want them to stay so badly they'll think on it leading to being unpacked the next day while acting like nothing ever happened.
I remember in animal crossing wild world I would on purposely turn off my ds with out saving so I would get me resetti because for some reason in my 8 year old brain it was so funny to see him mad and I would laugh so hard when he would get mad at me lolll
the truest form of animal crossing punishment happened to me several years ago when i decided to pick up wild world again
i hadn't played in several years, so my town was a wreck. i made it my mission to pull up ALL the weeds in one sitting and intended to keep it that way. i was about halfway done when i dropped my dsi and the cartridge came out. so not only did i lose around 2 hours of progress, i also had to deal with resetti the next time i booted up the game.
i did not play for another few months after that 😂
These videos are so detailed!
New Leaf's scary painting had the best fake. 👉👉 "Eyyy!"
I remember there being tarantulas in City Folk, but only at night. I remember one attacked me, I blacked out and ended up at home. So I never played at night again
Scorpions and Tarantulas always only come out after dark.
I'd get so stressed trying to locate every villager so I could talk to them
For Lyle, in Wild World I had the Pharao Mask, which meant I tripped like every 10 minutes, and that got me mad bank by my insurance
At the least that’s how I remembered him as a kid when I last played Wild World.
gyroid face was definitely not a glitch, i remember seeing that on my game as a child and then not being able to sleep that night lol
It's interesting that cockroaches aren't catchable.
I vaguely remember them being catchable in one of the games, but I don't remember which one, or how they spawned. I only know because I have a faint memory of trying to squish one in the museum and getting a message from Blathers on an intercom basically going "This is a friendly reminder to please avoid stepping on the donations."
@@kittycatzukaWild World* - they spawn on trees outside like beetles do during some months.
because they spawn inside and you cant use a net inside
They used to in wild world. You find them chilling on trees
I always found it odd that you couldn't catch the bees from the beehives
Yeah once I was playing wild world and caught a hammerhead shark and my town had so many things on the ground where I caught it and my pockets were full of objects only so it forced me to release it
9:57 uh..? Tarantulas and scorpions are not a thing that was added in new horizons, lol. They date back to at least WW/CF.
^^^ this, i still play my CF sometimes and having to catch a scorpion is so much worse lol
I really liked the tan mechanic, because for me as a kid, such things kind of made the world feel more alive which spurned my imagination on
Little things like getting a tan from being out in the sun all day, gave layers to stories I would think up and made them more vivid ^^
Fun fact, in new horizons theirs 2 furniture trees per day on your isle that you can find shaking
Me running around and chilling in New Leaf
Tarantulas and scorpions: *i'm about to end this whole girl's career*
I have been waiting for this weeks Video 😊 So excited to watch this
Speaking the words "Hell hath no fury" has summoned me
I had the gamecube version & city folk as a kid. Resetti genuinely scared me so much every time. Most of the time I had just accidentally done it too, so knowing he would come was horrifying for me when i was little
It would suck when there was a random power surge while playing and you'd have to deal with Resetti when it wasn't even your fault.
Bro I’m sick rn and not playing video games and this just reminded me my nook miles streak 😭
Fun fact about turnips: in Wild World there's a glitch wnere if you put turnips on a table they'll never spoil.
the gyroid face is a punishment, it's listed in the game manual
Did this dude not know tarantula and scorpions were in the previous games?
resetti didn’t just scare me. he actually was a huge fear of mine for many years and he visited me in many of my nightmares
What did he do in the nightmares loo
IN new horizons, if you travel backwords, you need to water your crops again.
In new horizons I let the roaches stay so they won’t visit my house
I miss villagers randomly moving. It makes it feel like a real town
On my first island a villager customised my face in Halloween and it never send away so I had to restart😢
I’m sure someone commented it already but I didn’t see it!
when i was little i got the gross flower thingy in new leaf and i cried so hard i threw up
Back in my day it took hours of monotony to pick all the weeds from time travel.
Been binging your whole channel, you've become the soundtrack to my ACNH shenanigans
Thanks 🙂
The gyroid face is COMPLETELY intentional! There's different face versions for different things such as a bee sting! It's weird how people debate this as a glitch or not.
I just started animal crossing 5 days and i love it your content is amazing im learning so much about the game and the game’s history I genuinely appreciate your hard work putting all these videos together
One time a villager on my island made my face a different color on Halloween, and i didnt know how to change it back, so I was stuck with it for like a year until my cousin told me how to fix it!
this went from silly bees to real life protests real quick.
Good overview, good things to know.
The only reason people were being banned and being reported was because of a TH-camr by the name of versify he was constantly telling people to report users so that way he would be the good guy even though he was just the harasser I was not one of those people who had star trees because I stay away from those for any reason but people were always mad at him and then he was put to blame For at all
I remember verlisify harassing people playing competitive pokemon back in the day
@@midwesternpolymath agreed he thinks since they beat his butt they’re cheating lol there was this one video I remember where he lost so badly that he claimed that they were cheating.
Ooh. By the way, the Gyroid Face in Animal Crossing isn't a glitch, it's a genuine face that can be set with save editors. Hunter R confirmed this.
When I was a kid I was so scared of that big ugly plant
