That’s my car I just picked it up today. They did a great job. It sounds smooth and the droning is now gone. The noise level is exactly where I want it.
Sounds nice, but the OG exhaust X-pipe necks the whole system down to a single 2.5" pipe, while your old system kept the dual 2.25" pipes almost intact through the X-pipe. I think the OG loses a few HP when compared to the old system. OG cross section area is 4.90sq.in. through the X-pipe, old system is (let's say it lost 20% because of the cross-cut) 3.176sq.in. times two or 6.35sq.in. total.
🤣 you think horsepower is made from diameter alone… none of the bends, length or scavenging play any factor in power huh? Number crunching 1 variable and discounting 15 years of experience from people who have a dyno and built 100s of systems is peak keyboard engineering…
I would like to hear two versions of your exhaust. With and without megaphones, and it should be the only difference. Only then we can judge the influence of said megaphones. As somebody stated already - your exhaust sounds best under load, and factory spec sounds best free revving
Great idea - the aftermarket system is way too different to really know if the megaphones make a difference. Not that I'm doubting... I definitely think the FMU exhaust sounds better, but is it because it's a 3 inch? Who knows now? Another video about this please?
Excellent video, definitely noticed the difference in exhaust sound. Your FMU set up sounds so much better than stock. I learn more in each of your videos.
Fellow automotive TH-camr here. Wanted to say great job brother! With your knowledge of exhaust systems, I’d love to see a video on you breaking down how Yamaha tuned the sound for the LFA. Like what did they do to get that iconic sound. 🤷🏻♂️ Unless you already did it and I missed the video. I’m gonna go digging in your videos right now. Just in case. 😎🤙🏼
Hopefully in the near future you get the chance to headers back on an LS platform. Would be interested in the stepped headers and megaphones to see how high pitch it can get
The merge in the middle of the FMU X Pipe looks like it has the cross section area of just one pipe. It would be interesting if FMU took this further using an X-pipe with a 3.5” or 4” center and 2.5-3” entries to retain the x sectional area of both pipes. 2.5” exhaust area 19.6cm 3” exhaust area 28.2cm So 2.5” exhaust uses 3.5” x middle (38.5cm) And for a 3” setup, use an x pipe with a 4” middle (50.2cm) Just a thought 😎👍
The larger the merge in the middle (and to a greater extent the length or volume of the merge I'm the middle) the deeper or more resonate your tone will be. I have a merge approximately 4 feet long, cross section 2.5 x 4, makes great torque and quite resonate on a L98 Corvette. 😊
Man the first gen Gallardo 5.0 sounds amazing, it's so underrated, it existed way before LFA but a lot of people didn't care about it's sound back then and it got overshadowed by LFA, in my opinion better and it's cheaper, also more tuning potential, with twin turbos this car is a beast.
Agreed, but it was a weaker engine because to get that 72º firing order, they split the crank journals 18ºs. The lfa made a race style 72º V block rather than the 5.0's 90º V. Making an even crank with an even firing order.
If Lexus would have made more LFA’s I think we would see much more custom ones. There was only 500 production models made (it’s been over a decade so probably a lot less from crashes now) so it’s a collectors item. Over 7,000 first generation Gallardo’s were made. They say 14,000 overall, but I think there was much more than that built tbh. But with that many built there’s more cars to market to for services
@@kasebuttram9542 yeah, I bet in the beginning of the lambo v10 tuning days there were alot of people blowing up engines. LFA is so rare you'd struggle to get another engine. In your Mercedes vid, you show a snapshot of the Paganni exhaust. It looks like it uses an equal length cone taper to the middle on both sides from inlet/outlet of the cone. Have you tried out a cone like that which is equally divided on both ends to the middle like the Paganni cones?

Absolutely love your content. I have an E92 M3 and I’ve been dying to find an exhaust that give it a high pitched v8 wail. The community has experimented with double x pipes, but I’d be very curious to see what you and your team could do 🤞🤞🤞
Yea… don’t do double x-pipes. We did that in 09 on our E90 m3. X’s need to be front and center and need straight tubing to clean the sound back up. Closer to the rear the more “distorted” it will get and anything over 1 good X is overkill for any benefit to sound or scavenging. It’s a gimmick that will sound “different” than other systems but not the best the engine is capable.

intuitively it might seem like a restriction point but in practice you get x pipe placement and design right and it will keep exhaust velocity high via the timing of the pulses. This creates a venturi effect, pulling exhaust gasses out of the cylinder head. I assume most have figured this out like we have as this design remains fairly constant in the aftermarket gallardo exhaust designs. If you look up the dyno results for the spit true dual systems, not only do they NOT make the best power, they also sound atrocious, with the only seemingly redeemable quality being a low price... So to answer your question directly, it can- if you don't place it right, but if you do, the rapid restriction to expansion and resulting pressure change next to a venturi suction can aid in total flow.
Is it a bad idea and/or have effect on say a turbo 4 cylinder? I noticed that it sounds great on bigger engine but curious if the same is true for something smaller. Say..maybe a 2.4L turbo from a dodge caliber srt-4 for example
They did a custom 3.5" on my supercharged coyote. I have tried Corsa Sport, Borla, and Magnaflow Street, and the best out of those three was Borla in my opinion. Eventually, I got tired of not getting the sound I wanted. I took it to FMU and they did their magic. Question: Whats the impact if you swab the megaphone on same position but other round ? i have seen Dungeon Motorsport use these but diffrent direction.
The video we got from that is missing a bit of context we need to add, but he’s scheduled to comeback in august for some fuel system tweaks and we’ll get it then!
Wow this is the first time I’ve heard a 5.2 sound like the clearly better 5.0 motor! This is a no brainer exhaust if ur looking for the 5.0 exhaust note in your 5.2!
So I have a question… Is a muffler mid pipe a disruptive flow inhibitor? So, is replacing the X pipe configuration with your muffler slowing down velocity? Small hole to big hole degases suggests an absolute yes. But!Depending on where it’s situated will the exhaust gas velocity slow down far enough away create negative affect upstream?
Depends on the style of muffler and heat the system is carrying… but don’t use chambered mufflers and it’s not something that you’ll have to worry about.
This is what I have been trying to tell the guys in @goonzquad. I would love to see some sort of cooperation between your channels. You create the greatest exhausts and they are crazy rebuilders 😂
I’ve seen a few people use two x pipes to try for a smoother sound. Obviously that wouldn’t fit on this car. However, I’m curious on how a double x pipe with a megaphone would sound on something front engined
That’s the kind of stuff we did way back when we didn’t know what we were doing. Secret to smooth sound is the x as far up as you can get it and don’t have them at 90 degree intersections. 2 adds one further back which creates a more garbled sound.
How can those of use that drive meagre small capacity, NA, non super cars, benefit from such changes to exhausts … I’m assuming it’s not worth the effort for my MX5 etc right‽
That’s my car I just picked it up today. They did a great job. It sounds smooth and the droning is now gone. The noise level is exactly where I want it.

Still waiting to hear that mustang exhaust you guys built...
The video we got from that is missing a bit of context we need to add, but he’s scheduled to comeback in august for some fuel system tweaks and we’ll get it then!
@@FluidMotorUnion awesome, can't wait to hear it. 👍
Wow this is the first time I’ve heard a 5.2 sound like the clearly better 5.0 motor! This is a no brainer exhaust if ur looking for the 5.0 exhaust note in your 5.2!
That’s not a 5.2 it’s a 5.0 with updated bumpers.
I would love to hear what you can do to a K20
Would love to hear the new ZR1 with your megaphone system!
Here from LSC! Great vids OJ
Howdy
So I have a question…
Is a muffler mid pipe a disruptive flow inhibitor?
So, is replacing the X pipe configuration with your muffler slowing down velocity?
Small hole to big hole degases suggests an absolute yes. But!Depending on where it’s situated will the exhaust gas velocity slow down far enough away create negative affect upstream?
Depends on the style of muffler and heat the system is carrying… but don’t use chambered mufflers and it’s not something that you’ll have to worry about.
Very nice I’d like to hear a 5th gen v8 Camaro or zl1
I want to buy a megaphone for my boosted Silverado LOL I wonder what it'd sound like on a straight piped LS motor.
Any chance at making the VQ engines sound good?
Sounds amazing, thank you.
keep making vid's OJ. great great great work ! First vids i watch on a saturday morning are yours and Alex's
I wonder how a megaphone would change the sound on an I6 like a 1j or rb. I've only seen yall use them on cars with a crossover.
This is what I have been trying to tell the guys in @goonzquad. I would love to see some sort of cooperation between your channels. You create the greatest exhausts and they are crazy rebuilders 😂
Hey OJ, are these megaphones one particular length?
Could we get a video one day with a more everymans relatable exhaust need like a LS or another common v8.
I'm curious to know how the megaphones would sound on my 13 Shelby 🤔
Would LOVE to see what you can do with a MKIV Supra... I'll reach out to you guys 😎
This, see if the 2J can get a slightly higher pitch. Kind of like the 1JZ!
It definitely makes babies cry 😂 youre great
im trying to figure out how to implement this into my daily 4 banger econobox 🤣
my brother how much one like this to audi r8 v10 2014 !
I'm curious what it would sound like on a duramax exhaust. 🤔
It's all manipulation of air waves.
Awesome work.
Comparison videos like these are great, that gallardo sounds amazing with the fmu exhaust!
Have you done
Megaphone on bmw S65 V8?
I would like to see what kind of symphony you can get out of a mk5 Supra with a 6 port exhaust
OJ you are a legend
Do an Audi RS3!!
Huh. I'm buying an LP Gallardo and live in Chicago... maybe I'll see you soon
How can those of use that drive meagre small capacity, NA, non super cars, benefit from such changes to exhausts … I’m assuming it’s not worth the effort for my MX5 etc right‽
Does this gallardo have a 5.0 or 5.2 motor? i cant really tell
5.0
How do you think megaphones would sound on an American V8 like a Mustang or Camaro?
Great work fellas🤙🏼
appreciate that!
is this the Pre LP or LP Gallardo?
OJ you're the best!
