Imelda Staunton is perfect as Umbridge, but the best part is her talking in an interview about how she was recommended the role. Someone pretty much said "OMG YOU'D BE PERFECT FOR THIS!" and she read the description and was like "looks like a toad...thanks??"
Something good DID come out of Umbridges time in Hogwarts: They used 40 cats for the plates in her office, and after filming wrapped, they all got adopted!
It took me a little while to realize it but the reason so many people loathe Umbridge more than Voldemort is because a lot of us has had to deal with someone that radiates the same energy IRL. Conversely very few of us have had a pathetic edge-lord that peaked in high school trying to kill us from infancy.
I would have just cast Avada Kedavra killed her and then cast a shit ton of spells until priori incantatem couldn’t go far back enough to see I killed her
Also, Voldemort is at least 100% truthful about being the villain. Umbridge is one of those fake-friendly, condescending, bigotted, hypocritical ultra-conservatives or religious fundamentalists we know from real life, people who utterly believe _they_ are the "righteous" ones and will stubbornly maintain that they have never done anything wrong and everyone else is "sinful" for daring to disagree. She is more of a monster than Voldemort. Voldemort only kills people. Umbridge kills the soul.
I’ve always felt like Sirius’ death lacked punch in the movies. I think part of it is because when he dies, though we see Daniel Radcliffe scream, it is silent. It’s a weird directorial choice that takes away the gut punch from that moment. And then the hardest part in the books for me is when Harry confronts Dumbledore and starts breaking stuff in his office, screaming that if this pain (the pain of grief) is what it means to be human, then he doesn’t want to be human. That scene in the movie is just… them having a quiet conversation.
They cut out the scream because Daniel Radcliffe’s grandmother passed away shortly before this was shot, and his scream made Emma Watson and Helena Carter cry so they thought it would be too agonizing
I always thought muting the scream was brilliant, like in that blood rushing in you ears and deafening everything out of shock, like its so loud its silent. Like sure the scream could make it more, but i still get goosebumps and cry everytime i see that scene
Agreed. While the scene was beautiful, it didn't make me sad at all. While like the book, the death happened very quickly, in the movie I didn't even have time to reflect. Same with Hedwig's death scene
My favorite part in the movie would have to be where Umbridge is yelling to Harry about telling the centaurs she was someone good or something and he goes, "Sorry Prof. Umbridge. I must not tell lies." Brutal! And I LOVE IT!!!
@@PHSDM104 If he did, then I'm very impressed because it hits SO HARD! I don't think I cheer for Harry as hard as I do when watching that part of the movie. It fits so well.
This movie has my favorite quote from the HP franchise: "The world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are."
The problem is that's exactly the morality of the Harry Potter series. Harry and anyone he likes is portrayed as automatically good while anyone he doesn't like is bad. Instead of a mix of characters with different morals it's black and white good or evil. And Rowling's attempt to make Snape a morally grey ambiguous character failed, making him come off as a Lily obsessed incel who asked Voldemort to kill James and Harry so he could have her and only joined Dumbledore to avenge his obsession's death not to make up for being a Death Eater.
@@Xehanort10 They only needed the motivation to change into "He wanted to save them all but Voldemort didn't care and so he goes and asks Dumledore for help" At least it'd make it more logical
@@Xehanort10Yes, exactly that. And in case we as the readers weren‘t clear where a character belongs, members of the bad team are often described as ugly, fat, bostious, slow-minded, and so on. Bonus for bad female characters: They‘re usually single, have no kids, and are comically evil or silly. Prof Trelawney, Undersecretary Umbridge, Bellatrix Lestrange, etc.
It reflects how most audience reactions are as well, since Harry is a vehicle character for the audience to follow and learn about the Wizarding World.
A couple of comments respond that the "witness" was a squib, but the main point is, her presence wasn't a coincidence. She mentioned to Harry she'd talked about him to Dumbledore. This was a hint she was helping Dumbledore. That's why she also helped by testifying. In fact, she was a neighbor who'd been watching over Harry for years, and keeping Dumbledore informed.
@@randomusername3873 ye, in the books it is explained that she babysits Harry before he enters Hogwarts and she coulnt let he enjoy him self or the Durleys wouldnt let her do that. She basically works as an undercover informant for Dumbeldore during Harrys first years and during the summer vacation. I also guees if Voldemort or any deatheaters had turned up she would informe Dumbeldore asap.
The really heartbreaking thing about Harry's scream when Sirius died is that Daniel Radcliffe is actually screaming, and it was so devastating for the cast to hear, they muted it because they thought it would be too much for the audience.
14:00 its explained in the books that Voldemort couldn't just take a stroll into the Ministry of Magic because he loves that the Ministry is pretending that he isn't back, and by coming to the Ministry of Magic, he'd reveal himself. Thats why they got Harry to get it
to which he shows up anyway, defeating the purpose of not going to get it in the first place...and two death eaters seemed fine hiding out in there without red flags.
@@javxion6576 which doesn't really doesn't make it better. The only way the story works is if Voldemort plays his cards poorly so that the book can have a climax.
Agreed! I actually played a DnD character who was a bit out there and you better believe I took the opportunity to use "you're just as sane as I am" when the perfect chance came up. Just an amazing quote.
I'M. LIVID they had MCGONAGALL take a step down during the Trelawney scene. It just. Felt like a betrayal to her character. She was ICONIC in the book. "It unscrews the other way." What. A queen.
Definitely a good one, but by far my favorite McGonagall scene is “False hope? He has achieved high marks in all his Defense Against the Dark Arts tests-“ “I’m terribly sorry to contradict you, Minerva, but as you will see from my note, Harry has been achieving very poor results in his classes with me.” “I should have made my meaning plainer,” said Professor McGonagall, turning at last to look Umbridge directly in her eyes. “He has achieved high marks in all Defense Against the Dark Arts tests set by a competent teacher.”
@@richardbaker308 big agree; no reveal of Umbridge sending the Dementors in the film left me shocked when I read it in the book (as I’m one of the people who saw the movies first). I think it’s probably because they toned down a lot of the Ministry’s corrupt activities in the movie, which also left me quite surprised once I read. The books establish Cornelius as someone who’s clearly doing everything in his power to defame Dumbledore and Harry, in the movie he just seems clueless, or “unintentionally bad”. Probably why they cut the dementor reveal as well.
The reason that all the boys had really long hair in the goblet of fire is because they were told to grow it out in between filming so the stylists could decide what to do with it, but then the new director was not informed of this and thought it looked great and decided to keep it. All the actors were mortified they had to go through filming with their haircuts😂
I always hated the line "neither can live while the other survives" because this is the 15th year that they've both been alive and that's been going just fine. The only reason Harry is or ever was a threat is because Voldemort made him one, and even now he could just ignore him
But was Voldemort really living until the graveyard? He wasn’t dead but weak af and no proper body of his own. I wouldn’t call that living, more like existing 🤷♀️
I always thought on that line as Living vs existing/surviving. So, in my interpretation, Harry was not actually living during books 4-7. He was afraid, he was in danger of getting killed, people were getting killed around him and everyone was suffering through a immense amount of trauma. Only afterwards, with Voldemort dead, Harry could live his life and not just surviving in fear. Thus, the difference on the words living vs surviving. I'm also of the opinion that prophecies are self-fulfilling but that's a whole other story lol
@@peculiarchild4295 I like that interpretation. And yeah, it was definitely self-fulfilling. I think Dumbledore even said that many/most prophecies go unfulfilled, but by going after Harry, Voldemort chose him and set it into motion
@@msjkramey To add to that, I always felt like Voldemort went after Harry not because he thought that he was more powerful than him ( that guy just thought that he was the best lol) but because Harry (and Neville too) were a beacon of hope to the Order. I'm pretty sure that it is mentioned that Vold. did not believe in prophecies too so, it would make more sense to go after the thing for which the Order was fighting: The future, which in this case is personified as Harry and Neville (the kids of two different pairs who both fought against him). Tho, I also believe that Harry was not special because people (ie. James and Lily) died for him and their love saved him but bcs he chose to keep fighting and avenge them. If Vold did not go after his parents, the Prophecies would not be fullfilied and so, by going after him, Vold actually put the prophecy in motion. Sorry for the long post. I have way too many thoughts about this ahahah
One of the biggest things the movie left out about the Dementors attack is that it was Umbridge who sent them and she admits as much but that's just kind of Forgotten in the movies
Miss Umbrage always elicited a deep-seeded hate within me, like she was written so perfectly as the sleaze ball teacher and it was just incredible how well it worked
AAAANNNDDD then she got even worse in Book 7, where she's cheerfully conducting sham trials where she's sentencing muggle-borns to have their souls sucked out or be locked up for "stealing magic." Can only imagine THAT'S the "happy thought" fueling her patronus.
She’s like Geoffrey from game of thrones. Her character works because they think they’re doing the right thing, they are sadistic and think everyone has to do what they say etc.
One of the best movies! I loved how Luna was smarter than Dumbledore. She knew if Harry was being isolated, he would be more vulnerable, unlike Dumbledore's plan.
@@akton9927 sure, but I think he felt that Harry feeling isolated was worth the reassurance that Voldemort wouldn’t gain any new information. Luna was thinking small scale which makes sense, she just didn’t have the same understanding of everything going on that Dumbledore did.
I just realized that when Hermione's talking about everything Cho's going through, she mentions that she's worried about failing her OWLs but canonically, in the books Cho is one year older than Harry and the crew, so she's a 6th year, so she shouldn't be worried about her OWLs anymore
Probably because she has already failed an owl or two last year ( because she was devastated by Cedric's death) so she is retaking it this year. In Half blood Prince Snape was telling Malfoy that if Crabbe and Goyle plan on "passing their DADA OWL this time around" , they got to do their detention with Snape and learn their syllabus.
I think Umbridge might have been a better villain than Voldemort to be frank. Not to say he wasn't good or anything, but damn Staunton's peformance was just THAT good. I think it even felt better when she got her comeuppance at the end with the "I must not tell lies" line from Harry compared to Voldemort losing somehow. Propably because she was shown actually torturing kids on the screen.
I’ve heard this is because Voldemort’s evil is so epic and storybook, while her variety is so everyday, and therefore something we’ve all experienced. We aren’t loathing Umbridge, we’re loathing the real person in our lives, who she reminds us of.
@@mayamartin7359 A villain imo is someone who Acts Not only evil on a small scale, but over course of a Long time and has a.massive impact on the whole universe of the Story. And Umbridge as easy to hatte as she is, is just Not Important enough for That. Antagonist for sure but Not a villain just like Fred Weasley is Not a hero, a Good likeable character for sure but Not a hero.
Book detail left out of the movie explains why Hermione had them sign their names on the paper: If anyone had ratted them out, the snitch would've broken out in boils that spelled "sneak" across their face.
Okay, but Alex you just glossed over Daniel’s scream that the editing team had to silence because it was too impactful. Daniel’s grandfather (I think) had died right before shooting this scene and used this as an emotional release. Even if the relationship between Bellatrix and Serious wasn’t fully fleshed out in the movies, Daniel’s acting here was.
Yes, but it really didn’t hit as hard as it should’ve. The music is just kind of mid and the lack of development of Sirius and Harry’s relationship in the 4th and 5th movies makes the moment mid as well since the audience hadn’t seen a ton of screen time with those two. Daniel Radcliffe did the best he could but the miscalculations of the directing were too much to overcome.
No matter what changes they made, Sirius’s death is still one of, if not the saddest scene in the movies since apparently not long before filming it, Daniel Radcliffe’s grandmother who was very supportive of him passed away and so his scream was actually real and it got to the point where Emma Watson and Helena Carter (Bellatrix (is that how you spell her name?)) cried when hearing it
i don't know why the actors always feel the need to make shit up. that scream is only real if someone told daniel radcliffe about his grandmother while filming the scene and filming it, otherwise it is still acting.
In the books, it's a stunner that hits him and he falls backwards into the veil. From Harry's point of view, time felt like it slowed down as he watched Sirius fall. So i think they tried to combine that with him being hit by the killing curse, but it doesn't make sense because other instances in the films have someone dead instantly. They basically drew it put for drama.
Hey, that one moment where Harry tells Umbridge her own words back at her, “sorry but I must not tell lies” and then she gets horrifically mutilated by the centaurs is one of the most satisfying moments of the whole series
Some of them really just came initially to hang out with their pals. Cho mostly just wanted to be around Harry but didn't wanna go alone so she made her friend come with her, who later snitched to umbridge due to fear her ministry-working dad would get in trouble
@7:17 Malfoy "i bet there is a cell in Azkaban with your name on it" Harry should have said "We already know there is a cell with yours" Not only did we know Malfoy was on the bad side, but his father literally went to jail there for a short period of time.
@@GizmoRBLXand also counting his parents to an extent. Sure based on the books and movies he said he vaguely remembered the events and he saw his mom die (since James died right before and since Lily was protecting Harry, he saw her die too so he saw two people die)
Sirius' death was just sad, both in the book and movie, and what made it worse, was that there was no body for Harry to bury because it went through the veil, meaning Sirius' grave is empty
@@enomiellanidrac9137 Oh that's a classic. The Grave of The Fireflies doesn't make me cry or sad, but angry that we have films like that, and Schindler's List, that show the cost of war, yet people still think it's necessary. TH-cam picked the best time to give me an add. 4:57 Sirius Black has something really important he want to tell Harry. You can customize and save with Liberty Mutual, so you only pay for what you need.
13:55 this was somewhat explained in the book, but the reason that Voldemort couldn't take the prophecy was because he wanted to prioritize building his army. If he just waltzed into the MoM all casual like then that would set off a thousand and one red flags and the world (and by extension Dumbledore) would know that Voldemort is making a move and try to resist.
plus in the books there isn't a short way to a prophecy room, there are a lot of same looking doors that can spin around. I don't think Voldemort wanted to go to the ministry and look for the right room personally wasting his time.
@@mrrriarty From the images that were going through his mind (that Harry kept seeing in his dreams), Voldemort had an idea of how to find the prophecy room. The problem is that the spells around it would keep anyone except Harry and Voldemort from removing it from the shelf, so if Voldemort were to go and take it it would quickly be clear who'd done it.
Uhhhh, that wouldn't matter though. After all voldemort was stopped by highschoolers and a bunch of teachers. No international incident happened? So what are you talking about red flags? Also dumbledore? Who? The guy with many titles together with a groupie couldn't do anything towards what they are fighting against. That in the entire franchise it was always on the shoulder of 3 chosen people. Yeahhhhhhhh
The way I cried for days when I read the Order of the Phoenix. Sirius was one of my favourite characters and I genuinely thought Harry was eventually going to get to live with him and have a better home life. Also in the book there’s a scene where Harry has a complete mental breakdown in Dumbledore’s office that really showed just how devastating Sirius’ death was for Harry. The movie just didn’t do it justice at all.
Agreed. His death wrecked me. The movies were never going to live up to the books (just too much to include, stuff was going to get left out), but I also wish that scene in Dumbledore’s office stayed. And I wish more scenes of Sirius and Harry were in the movies generally to establish how close they were. I loved Sirius in Goblet of Fire being so protective after Harry survived Voldemort’s return.
other way around for me. I hated him, he's my most hated character. Was genuinely proud of Bellatrix for this. I dont usually like her but damn, she made me proud of her.
Same! I cried through most of this book actually. Harry goes through so much and the whole time I just want to give him a hug and tell him it's going to be OK.
Umbridge is the perfect incarnation of banal evil - the realistic thing we expect to encounter in daily life, as opposed to Wizard Hitler. Both the book and movie versions, as Imelda Staunton's portrayal is spot-on, and many people consider the character to be the real key villain of the story as a result.
We're very unlikely to run into someone like Voldemort in real life (thank goodness), but we've ALL met someone like Umbridge at some point, whether a teacher or boss or whatnot. And really, it's the folks like Umbridge who allow those like Voldemort to wreak so much havoc.
these video essays make me feel so validated. The movies felt like a confusing trip even as a kid, and since i was a kid I didn't think to question that the adults' logic might be wonky
If anyone else was teaching Harry occulmency (I have no idea if I spelled that right), it might have actually helped. Instead, it was just two people who dislike each other going through the motions. Also, it's annoying how the movies basically left out that Harry learned how to throw off the imperious curse (which becomes important). Also, the relationship between Sirius and Harry is much more developed in the books, so it hits harder when he dies.
yeah I never understood how Dumbledore though putting Harry and Snape together in this intimate discipline was a good idea. it'd be hard to find two people who hate and loath each other more, of course this was doomed from the start. even if occlumency (no idea how it's spelled either) was a rare ability, with Dumbledore's connections and Harry's fame I'm sure they'd have been able to find another teacher.
@@benzaiten933 I mean, Snape was able to stay in Voldemort's inner circle without being exposed, so he's clearly the most skilled around. Still a horrible match for Harry as a teacher.
@@benzaiten933 yeah dumbledore admits that it was a stupid decision and he thought that maybe Snape could get over his grudge to actually help but dumbledore says he realises that he should’ve taught Harry it instead
It’s just wild to me that Dumbledore thought it would work. Even if Harry and Snape managed to put hatred aside, this would have involved a serious level of trust that was just never going to happen. Can you imagine trusting someone who openly hated you with your innermost thoughts? Hindsight is 2020 but damn, Dumbledore.
It's because the two most adept legilimens that could teach Harry were Dumbledore and Snape. Dumbledore was concerned that his being in Harry's presence at that time would awaken Voldemort's hatred for him and could harm Harry and Dumbledore himself, so the only option was Snape, who should have just gotten his shit together and acted like an adult and properly tried to teach Harry and thereby save the kid of the woman he loves. But instead he fell back on his hatred of James and abused Harry instead.
what's always been weird to me about Sirius death scene is that he has time to sigh, turn, and look longingly at Harry. ya know... even though it's a spell that kills instantly. how do instants work in jkr land? is it like 5 instantaneous make up one instant?
Yeah I think they made a mistake doing that, in the book Sirius doesn’t die because of the killing curse, he dies because Bellatrix uses a powerful curse which blasts Sirius back and he falls in the veil instead. Which adds to Harry’s denial that Sirius is dead. I think the movie did that to make it clear and just wanted to add more dramatic affect to it so he didn’t die straight away.
EXACTLY. The veil also isn't explained in the movie because they didn't have time, so him falling through it doesn't add anything- movie-only watchers will just be confused on why he's suddenly turning transparent and floating off, while the delayed reaction makes it looks like *the veil* killed him, and not the killing curse. Meanwhile the book was able to explore a little more fully Harry being in denial about Sirius being dead because of the veil, but without those scenes the veil serves no purpose in the movie. Those few seconds are just a set of baffling choices for one of the most important moments in the movie.
@@heathersmith4042 yeah coz in the book he got blasted through the veil, it wasnt avada kedavra that killed him. I guess movie people thought they didnt want any questions about his death.
Insane. I used to play battle cats years ago and I never would have expected anyone else to play this bizarre game let alone be sponsored by them. Wild, great game.
I really hate it when the main characters are just because they're holier than thou let everyone else walk all over them, so in this movie, when Harry is taking absolutely no shit from anyone, it is my freaking my favorite, here's a life lesson bullies never back out unless you stand for yourself otherwise they'll keep walking all over you.
My favorite thing about Luna’s character is that most people make fun of her for believing in a bunch of odd things, and yet these are people who have magic and live in a world where unicorns are real. Like shouldn’t they be open to the possibility of anything being real lol
No? Because they're no different than muggles. They are used to magic and feel they know it well enough to know what does or doesn't exist. Same with muggles. Since most of them haven't witnessed magic, it could happen right in front of them and they still wouldn't believe it. Heck, that's how it is in real life. People who don't believe in ghosts never believe those who claim they have seen ghosts, because non-believers think if something is real, everyone would have seen them and they'd have hard proof of them. They can't admit that they don't know everything.
especially that it was Luna who found Harry on the train (in the next movie) by looking for wartspurts (? don't remember the spelling). Books are obviously different but in the movies they decided to show that she actually was right and those things she believed were real.
Living in world that is fantasy for us doesn't mean there are no things that have been disproven to exist. Its a bit like current particle phisicist would travel to medival witch trial and argument agains flying on brooms would be "so you belive everything is made of thise tiny things that cannot be know properly where they are but witchcraft is impossible?"
yeah but thats kind of the same with megladon and giant squids irl, there's a heavily researched and cataloged list of species and scientific laws, something only believed to be myth will remain that way until evidence is recovered
Not necessarily. When you learn about more advanced science, that doesn’t make you start to believe that maybe we are just in a Dyson sphere after all or that mermaids must exist because someone could theoretically mix human and fish genome. In the books she is into decidedly more oddball things, like Sirius Black being secretly a musician who was mistaken for the real Sirius Black. Or Fudge running a much more sinister government conspiracy. So some of it could be like Bigfoot conspiracies and is more on the fence of plausibility for their world, some is things that are ludicrous in that world
Honestly the book was more impactful to me, when the 5th book came out-I had to take a 3hr crying break at Sirius’s death scene in the book(I grew real attached & was really rooting for him & Harry to get to have that adopted/cleared name storyline)
My brother spoiled that event because he had read somewhere about it. I still don't know weather I should be glad about that or not because that way I was at least a little bit prebared. The secene afterward when Harry starts breaking Dombledore's things still makes me cry.
Alex: *Talking about how he had a crush on Luna Lovegood.* Me: *Cheers silently now I have found someone else with my feelings.* Seriously I adore Luna she is just so blind to her quirkiness. She doesn't do it to be different or weird she acts that way because it is how she is.
By the time "Order of the Phoenix" came out, I was caught up with the books. I realized the books had a completely different tone, but was en joying both of them. I felt Order was where the story changed from a tale being told for entertainment to something bigger. Namely the scene in the book where Mrs. Wesley has the vision of her loved ones dieing in the war and how it affected her. This, for both the movies and books, was when I thought this went from a good story to a great tale. In the movie, the scene where Umbridge fires Trelawney was just masterful. And, we get to meet Tonxs and Luna Lovegood.
He was impressed by number 12 Grimmauld place appearing because it was under a Fidelius Charm which he remembers was what kept him safe when he was a baby
In the books they explain that the reason moldy voldy didn't go retrieve the prophecy from the ministry is because of the risk of him being discovered to actually still be alive and it being much easier for him to stay hidden and do bidding from the shadows. He still ends up going to the ministry to try to kill Harry though because hes alone in the atrium.
I will say how emotional it made me feel knowing they put music over the scene of Lupin holding Harry after Sirius is killed because Daniel was screaming so loudly. It's just as emotional, but still touching knowing how close Daniel and Gary Oldman were offscreen.
You know it’s called acting right? You think he was screaming because he was just so emotional? Was he screaming in between scenes too or was it just between the director said something like “action” and “cut”? Lol
@@justinmartin4662 yeah because actors are like robots who don't feel anything their characters feel, and are unable to relate to them on a personal level. That's why they don't get affected by their roles, just like Heath Ledger. Wait...
Yeah the film didn't really explain the prophecy very well. Basically, Voldemort couldn't retrieve the prophecy himself because he didn't want to enter the ministry for fear they would find out he had returned and his whole plan would be ruined. Also, the reason Lucius knew some of the prophecy already is because Voldemort and his followers were aware of the first half of it but not the second half :D
But people keep turning invisible in this universe, couldn't he do that? Or bribe someone, or use one of his followers in the Ministry to help him get in secretly? Or all of the above. It's hardly an impenetrable fortress. It makes no sense from the other side either, there's no important secret to protect. It might make sense as bait, but they're not using it as bait, are they?
This was always the coolest movie when I watched as a kid. Harry taking on that leadership role. You get 2 great Villains with Umbridge showing the political side of the wizarding world. As well as the most development for Voldemort we’ve seen. Add on that amazing 3rd act with Dumbeldore finally showing his power. Bellatrix killing Sirius. Great movie.
Making Sirius more warm and fatherly towards Harry made his death much more effective(speaking from someone who read every book and saw all the films).
Yeah I’d say they book Sirius is more realistic based on his situation and trauma, but movie Sirius was definitely a lot more warm and father like. Like movie Sirius had a complete 180 switch from being seen as crazy after Azkaban when we find out he’s good, but there is less time movie wise to develop him.
the series continuosly gets darker and darker metaphorically and literally in the last movie, literally couldnt see anything if i didnt increase the brightness to MAX
In the book, Bellatrix doesnt use the killing curse on Sirius, her spell was red so probably a stunner. It was literally bad luck that he fell backwards through the veil, if hed fallen forward or sideways, hed have been fine.
It'll probably be 3 years before we get another one and you can thank all the obnoxious weirdos complaining about the fact that the neighbor "is technically a squib" as if that is in any way a pressing detail
You dare to cut out the scene where Umbridge is investigating all the teachers? Best one being Snape- Umbridge: You applied for the Defense Against the Dark Arts post, I believe? Snape: Yes. Umbridge: But you were unsuccessful? Snape: Obviously.
Bro the scene where Sirius died I remember Harry scream NO! From way back then but honestly it was the most heartbreaking thing to watch! I thought to myself that I’d name my son Sirius in the future

WB cut it because he made the girls on set cry.
@lucasgierhart5805 But like, it's supposed to be devastating. I wish they'd kept it in
The funniest part of Order of Phoenix was that the actress who played Umbridge nailed the character perfectly.
idk how its funny, but yeah. she was godly at the role
yeah, she was amazing, you could really feel she brought Umbridge's character to life in this movie.
She's the BEST part of the movie! I love to hate her!🤩💗
Honestly, I would've gladly gone to Azkaban after hitting her with a killing curse.
She now plays the Queen on The Crown and nails that role too. Imelda Staunton, she's a phenomenal actress.
My favorite part in the movie would have to be where Umbridge is yelling to Harry about telling the centaurs she was someone good or something and he goes, "Sorry Prof. Umbridge. I must not tell lies." Brutal! And I LOVE IT!!!
😎🔥
From what I heard, Daniel Radcliffe actually improvised that line.
That line even came back in Deathly Hallows Part. 1 too, it was the best callback they could've done.

This movie has my favorite quote from the HP franchise: "The world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are."
I agree, I truly love that quote.
J.K was spitting facts. She was so good at motivating people. Sad.

Isn't she also in the 3rd movie when he runs away from the Dursley's?

I also guees if Voldemort or any deatheaters had turned up she would informe Dumbeldore asap.
Most of the potholes in the movies are things they discarded from the books.
The really heartbreaking thing about Harry's scream when Sirius died is that Daniel Radcliffe is actually screaming, and it was so devastating for the cast to hear, they muted it because they thought it would be too much for the audience.

A queen.
That was my favorite McGonagall line! I wish they'd have put it in the movie, along with peeves.
Definitely a good one, but by far my favorite McGonagall scene is “False hope? He has achieved high marks in all his Defense Against the Dark Arts tests-“
“I’m terribly sorry to contradict you, Minerva, but as you will see from my note, Harry has been achieving very poor results in his classes with me.”
“I should have made my meaning plainer,” said Professor McGonagall, turning at last to look Umbridge directly in her eyes.

They really got stuck with those things 😭💀
I actually liked it, it felt realistic for them to have their hair like that
I actually always really liked Harry with the longer hair lol But it didn't look so good on Ron and the twins lol
Shit looked so bad
That's just hilarious.
@Tsururun 328 even with that logic, they both lived in books 4-7. Besides, the prophecy only says "survives," not "thrives" lol

I just realized that when Hermione's talking about everything Cho's going through, she mentions that she's worried about failing her OWLs but canonically, in the books Cho is one year older than Harry and the crew, so she's a 6th year, so she shouldn't be worried about her OWLs anymore
Exactly
Probably because she has already failed an owl or two last year ( because she was devastated by Cedric's death) so she is retaking it this year. In Half blood Prince Snape was telling Malfoy that if Crabbe and Goyle plan on "passing their DADA OWL this time around" , they got to do their detention with Snape and learn their syllabus.

@@fruitbythefoote not including enough scenes with those two together is the fault of the screenwriter, not the director.
The Sirius death was weird to me because I thought the spell used was supposed to instantly kill him, yet he floated away smiling and shit.
That's because of where he was standing, I don't really remember the name but it's explained in the books why that happened
Stupidus Jokerus Cursio
Makes you die laughing like Joker
In the books, it's a stunner that hits him and he falls backwards into the veil. From Harry's point of view, time felt like it slowed down as he watched Sirius fall.
So i think they tried to combine that with him being hit by the killing curse, but it doesn't make sense because other instances in the films have someone dead instantly. They basically drew it put for drama.

13:55 this was somewhat explained in the book, but the reason that Voldemort couldn't take the prophecy was because he wanted to prioritize building his army. 12:41 the first time I watched this movie I thought Snape said "used broccoli the power of occlumency," instead of used properly 😂😂
I found your comment at the same time he said it in the video and I couldn't stop laughing 😂😂

Alex: *Talking about how he had a crush on Luna Lovegood.*
Me: *Cheers silently now I have found someone else with my feelings.*
Seriously I adore Luna she is just so blind to her quirkiness. She doesn't do it to be different or weird she acts that way because it is how she is.
She's autistic basically
@@Raine.in.love. ooh so am I! Was going to mention it but decided no to.
She isn’t blind to it. She just kinda accepts it and doesn’t try an change it.
@@serenitythesiren5031 Lmao i am too so it's why i mentioned it
@@vanthemanproductions9185 yeah and u cant rly change it, it just is a pain in the ass sometimes imo
6:43 Harry Potter can be incredibly savage sometimes, especially in the books, and that side of him really shines through in this movie.
Tonks is a terrible character and brings nothing to the story.
@@bradcarver8127 nah you shut your mouth right there
@@bradcarver8127 not a fan of Tonks. Got it.
I’m a huge Helena Bonham Carter fan, perfect casting as Bellatrix. Wish she had more to do.
I will say how emotional it made me feel knowing they put music over the scene of Lupin holding Harry after Sirius is killed because Daniel was screaming so loudly. It's just as emotional, but still touching knowing how close Daniel and Gary Oldman were offscreen.
Daniel himself was so emotional because his grandmother had died not that long ago.
@@Noah-zv3mt Did not know that. Thank you
You know it’s called acting right?
I didn't remember Harry roasting Seamus so hard, god damn that was brutal.
When he said « ….Ok rude » as a teaspoon I laughed so hard I nearly broke a bone
I would really like to see Alex watch all the pitch perfect movies 😂

Your writing and jokes have really gotten better over the years 🤣 Even the most beloved franchises have hiccups in writing. Thanks for a great video.
9:56 can we talk about how good the animation was here?
The button press was so satisfying to watch
09:09 Speaking about weird rules, my primary school Head Master banned Halloween.
11:40 Also, changing the channel or parent telling child to go fetch something from the kitchen.
6:43 i cant stop laugthing
I think Luna was every boys HP crush.
5:53 She’s got a point. An icon, a legend and she is the moment. Now come on now ---
the series continuosly gets darker and darker metaphorically and literally
in the last movie, literally couldnt see anything if i didnt increase the brightness to MAX
also same at 6:01
she gave off bridge to terabithia vibes
Just want to say, your animation has come a long way, it's impressive what you have done. Thanks for your effort and keep up the great work!

Oh wow. I was not expecting that line. That was good
In the book, Bellatrix doesnt use the killing curse on Sirius, her spell was red so probably a stunner. It was literally bad luck that he fell backwards through the veil, if hed fallen forward or sideways, hed have been fine.
Oh my God. Alex didn't wait a year to post another HP video. Incredible.
That's what she said!
It'll probably be 3 years before we get another one and you can thank all the obnoxious weirdos complaining about the fact that the neighbor "is technically a squib" as if that is in any way a pressing detail
Alex re-editing the park sequence reminds me of a depression medication commercial.
You dare to cut out the scene where Umbridge is investigating all the teachers? Best one being Snape-
Umbridge: You applied for the Defense Against the Dark Arts post, I believe?
Snape: Yes.
Umbridge: But you were unsuccessful?
Snape: Obviously.
It's a shame Snape didn't use crucio on her 😂

Dylan in trouble?
Bro the scene where Sirius died I remember Harry scream NO! From way back then but honestly it was the most heartbreaking thing to watch! I thought to myself that I’d name my son Sirius in the future
7:39 Dolores Umbridge’s Outfits and that Office. IDC so much about her.
I loved Imelda’s umbridge it was perfect but the movie really can’t compare to the book
4:20 I thought that she wasn't a witch.. hence, why he asked the question in the way he did.
