Yeah, the first game took place in 2013. If you want to place this game in 2024 or thereabouts, that puts Max in her late 20s.

@@brightlights2489 At the start of every single issue of the Life Is Strange comic, it emphasizes that there are many possible timelines and that the comic's story follows the results of one specific timeline.
There is no one canon series of events.
@@brightlights2489 the comics are in semi-canon state. Meaning, not canon until referred. We don't know yet if the comics story even supported by devs.
My guess is the game will start with the premise of the Save Arcadia Bay ending, but the parallel universe Max is able to peek into in this game might be the Save Chloe world. So both endings happened, just in separate worlds.
I was thinking this too. Will be a hell of an end of episode stinger if Chloe shows up in the parallel timeline.

Fun fact this is actually a lot like the Life Is Strange comics where it takes place after the sacrifice arcadia bae ending and she is able to travel to different worlds using her power and develops her powers further. Its pretty good but technically not canon. You should read it if youre interested
So far there is no canon ending. Every LiS game set after arcadia bay events let you choose ending. True colors went so far as to add scenes with Max and Chloe into the game, even if its just a voice.
@@Altmer353 as another comment suggested (I didn't come up with this) Both timelines could be canon, because we already have 2 timelines as the premise of this game, what if the "original" timeline (where Safi died) is the save-arcadia one, and the 2nd timeline (where Safi is still alive) is the Chloe timeline. That would be a cool way to explain why max can shift between 2 timelines ->because she created both

Yeah it seems like a strange retread? Especially with giving Max new powers. I hope they can tie it all together in the end without pissing anyone off but my optimism is not that high after the very mediocre "True Colors".

11:55 - Yeah, I'm a bit nervous too - any sequel with Max had better be darn good, to live up to the first game's legacy! I'm cautiously optimistic, though; I always imagined any such sequel would do a bit of timeline-hopping, showing us both a post-Bae and post-Bay ending Max, so I really hope Double Exposure does something similar.
Max is a photographer-in-residence at a college, I think they mentioned this in other promotional press releases. So definitely a bit of a time skip! I agree that DeckNine hasn't quite managed to reach the lofty heights of LIS1 but to be fair, neither has DontNod with their subsequent games. The first game really seems to be lightning in a bottle. I'm optimistic though, True Colors was quite good and well done if not iconic and genre defining. I'm excited!
Her power to travel between different timelines is something from the comics! Though it appears they aren't directly continuing on from the comic storyline as Max appears to be just discovering her new powers as opposed to discovering them earlier in the comics.

But she is literally the main character of any teen movie or tv show. Smart but shy teen, who can't fit into the community around. Like Peter Parker and hundreds of similar characters. Tbf, Chloe is also a quite stereotypical "problem child", but at least she's able to arouse emotions, positive or negative. Or is it just about Max being pretty?

Since there are 2 alternate timelines, maybe in one of them Chloe will be alive and in the other one Arcadia Bay will be around. But Max also said these timelines are pretty much the same, except the fact that Safi is dead in one of them, so...
Obviously there is a second difference. The person who killed Safi in timeline 1 has not decided to kill her in timeline 2. So they are probably slightly different people.
Man, I know usually game designs get decided on before the known IP is assigned, but this feels too much like DontNod / the devs just wanted to make another new Life is Strange game, but Square Enix / the CEOs forced them to have a recognizable IP with Max Caulfield in there to boost sales since units sold in the series have been going down.

I'm biased because they were how I found her back in the day, but they are well worth watching. I'll probably have to rewatch them before October to refresh story details in my mind.

And I hope this doesn’t overshadow Dontnod’s other game: Lost Records. As much as I like that LiS is continuing, I also like the idea of supporting new stories rather than the milking of a franchise
Milking of a franchise? I personally dont see it that way. Out of 4 games we had. Only 2 were about arcadia bay. Other 2 are completely different stories. This one does look like devs trying to hype people up with return of the main character years later. But at least it looks like a completely new story too.

@@edu67119 It's unlikely. You could choose which timeline you want in LiS2, they'll likely do the same here. Chloe's presence will merely be a cameo or a small part if you choose the sacrifice bay ending.
The other possibility is that Max is wrong in this trailer. The only difference isn't just that her new friend is dead in one and alive in the other, one of the timeline might be sacrifice Chloe and the other might be sacrifice Arcadia, that could be a way they handle this without having to make two versions for each thing that involves Arcadia or Chloe.

Irony, because this is also the exact message of the game. And yet the devs are messing with the timeline. I have a feeling there will be a price that has to be paid, by both the devs and Max in the new storyline.
I've read rumors ages ago that they were gonna do a Max game again but wasn't sure whether it was BS or not. I can't believe it's real! LiS1 is very dear to me. The ending wrecked me for DAYS lmao. It's weird seeing Max with like...facial expressions and such! Pretty sure Hannah Telle also did facial capture then. The part where she tells her friend she's dead in one timeline I feel like you can really see Hannah in Max's face.

The Steam page is up and the standard edition costs $50. LiS True Colors standard edition cost (and still costs) $60 so I think this'll probably be a smaller game.

Didn't see that one coming and not gonna lie, I was both thrilled and quite pessimistic after watching that trailer.
Thrilled because Max is back and I love her and the original LIS but (sorry for being a downer in advance) almost everything else in that trailer and the promo tells me: cash grab.
Replace the name Max Caulfield in that trailer with a new original character and it still works the same. She doesn't exactly look like Max, her powers don't work the same, nothing else reminds you of LIS 1 and it won't be the OG LIS team writing her either, so why make her Max and not a new original character like in True Colors .. well really hope I'm wrong and we get a good LIS.

I am *very* mixed. On the one hand, I got so excited and wistful hearing Hannah Telle's voice again and I'm very curious to how they'll continue this. I have a couple theories, and they relate to the comics (if you know, you know). But on the other, I keep thinking of that IGN article talking about the awful BTS racist Nazi drama with Deck9 and Square Enix from a few months ago. No wonder Don't Nod split but at least they're making their own game with Lost Records.

I know they're not your normal wheelhouse, but they're so entertaining to watch, especially when they're from a long-standing beloved universe like Life is Strange; or even universes you've more recently come to love as well, like Dragon Age's. I am SO excited for Double Exposure!! I will play it myself and then watch your letsplay right after 😄. I know what you mean about this being in Deck Nine's hands though. I do trust them to be respectful though.
The narrative director on twitter said that it will release like True Colors. All episodes will be playable from the get go.
They can handle the two different endings from LIS1 by having Chloe alive in one of the alternate realities, and not the other.

A lot of people are talking about this being a new power, but I see it as a more developed version of something she’s already done. She could go into alternate timelines (alternate universes) through the photographs in lis 1. Now she can do it without a photo even a memory it seems. Which would make sense it’s more developed and powerful it looks like this could be at least 10 years since Arcadia bay.
I hope they do something to at least mention Chloe.
Like you choose your ending and it will change Max’s dialogue. Chloe doesn’t need to be shown if they want to go that direction, it can be a passing dialogue. (Buttttt I hope Chloe’s still there for the sacrifice bay choice and is romance able. Might be a high ask though)
If this continues from the funeral ending and Max is in a parallel universe where a dead friend is alive does that mean that we could get a parallel Chloe cameo?

This is 99% on the timeline where Chloe is ded and Max choose to save the bay. Because there's already a whole ass comic run about the Bae timeline, where Max already explored her dimension hopping power in 2018. So it doesnt make sense for her to be confuse about jumping to another timeline in this game if it was the Bae timeline

i think the over all point is all time lines are valid, its gonna be interesting to see how they handle it. fingers cross they try something interesting and step outside the normal.
+ also max has had this power before or at least its an extension of the photo power, the photos where used for her to focus so her just focusing to make a jump makes an amount of sense to me.
There is one way how they would not have to account for the two ending decisions too much: Chloe dies some other way shortly after (seems in character for her) and Arcadia bay gets destroyed some other way shortly after (no idea why, but they can just make something up).
I'm definitely going to pre-order this! Also October 29 is one day before my 18th Birthday (October 30)
The last time we saw Max properly was the 1st game (and its remaster). She is canonically older, you have a console generation jump, the original game was the second game its company (Don't Nod) ever made, and we know from True Colors that Deck Nine uses motion and face capture leading to the model looking more like Hannah Telle. The Remaster updated the graphics but didn't alter the animations. Her new look may take getting used to, but it's a nitpick at worst.
Also all ending/choices are cannon just happened in a different universe
yes totally, and we can guess that one of the timeline where chloe survived was explored in the comics, so maybe this one will explore one of the timeline where Chloe died as we did not see her
I think this takes place after Chloe sacrifice, hince why she was said she promised not to use her powers any more. And the sacrifice Arcadia bay timeline takes place in comics
"What timeline is this supposed to be based off on?" Two outcomes to the first game. Now two parallel timelines, and Max is switching between them. Hm - feels to me like they've done their homework on this one and avoided the obvious trap of picking one ending and making it canon.

It's kinda weird that they'd go with Max again considering how the original game ends. I don't know how to feel about that. I guess Chloe just won't appear at all(?), explained by just having not followed Max to university, or being dead.

I can see why they’d bring back max. The first game is still arguably the most well known/well received by the public so doing another game with Mac is almost a for guarantee for making sales.
She could be alive in one timeline and dead in the other since she's jumping between timelines.

My guess in how they‘re going to tackle it is that they’ll probably give you a choice at the beginning to define what happened at the end of LiS 1. If Chloe is still alive, they’re probably going to say they didn’t work out in the end because of the weight of the original decision. If she saved Arcadia Bay, she probably would still feel trauma and guilt because of what happened to Chloe. Seems like the two top explanation for me.

i literally lost it when i saw the trailer during the xbox showcase, also yes Arcadia bay did have a moment of snow at the end of the first chapter. LIS 1 is one of my favourite games of all time, i bought the game on the ps3, then on the ps4, and then a while back i bought the remaster on steam. also i preordered the ultimate edition of double exposure to play chapter 1 and 2 two weeks early. also yeah i really hope deck nine doesnt step on any toes by bringing Max back
I have a lot of questions with this new life of strange game like where does this take place in the timeline and is Chloe dead or alive?
I am not 100% on this but I recall seeing somewhere this game was in development around the same time as True Colors or shortly after. So they have been working on it awhile. That being said I do think they will account for all endings and choices in all the games in some fashion. With Chloe I think they might have her exist but not be where Max is like if you start the game with the choice of saving her she might have just recently visited Max and left before the start of the game. You might even get the option to call or message her online to help because the situations are similar. It is tricky but it's do able. The more they account for player choices the bigger replay value the game has.
What if two of shown us timeliness are the results of the first game. It would be so much hype😅
What if the parallel timelines are the result of the first game. Butterfly effect logic means that the timeline that you didn't choose in the first allowed for her new friend to not yet be dead in that timeline. The story of this game could start with it being vague as to which timeline is which and what one we start in, then the use of her powers to change things could start blending and mixing the two together. The player's choices could start to redefine which timeline is which.
9:00 discussion like that are hard because even tho the studio change, even if the old one do an old IP it's not guaranteed it will be as good. LiS2 had a lot of problems yet it was made by dontnod.
With the quality of LiS True Colors, this studio is def' the perfect one to do the licence justice ;) !

As for the canon of the older games, since this introduces parallel worlds, something the LiS comic already did it really does not matter which ending the players did choose for this.
They can just say this is a world where Chloe is dead but i am sure we will visit one where Chloe is alive too.
Making all the decisions of all players valid since there exist one version of THEIR world out there too.
Which is a neat way to take these beloved characters on new adventures without messing up all the decisions players made for their Max.
I played Lis 1 back when I was still in high school, and it's been one of my favorite games ever since, but I don't know how to feel about this. I'd love more of those characters, but their conclusion was perfect. I doubt they can add the same level of magic to this continuation, especially since don't nod isn't making it. I also wasn't a big fan of deck 9's last game, True Colors, so I don't have much hope overall.

I'm so excited for this, I can't help it!! Immediately I recognized Max's voice, but I wasn't sure. I actually think 0:43 *the second time* they reveal her face is what MOST looks like her. That's when I knew 😍 I assume she's supposed to be in her mid 20s now, I think they did a great job making her look older especially since the graphics are updated and the style is a little different. This announcement along with the Love Nikki Fashion RPG is what made me SETTLED in getting a PS5 🩷🩷🩷

They could implement a feature that lets you pick what ending you chose before the game starts and based on that, the story of this game changes so you can still continue where you finished and they won't need to pick one ending over the other

That's contrary to what Max is saying here. I'm not saying it's wrong, I've raised the same possibility in discussions, but I don't think it's a good starting assumption. It's a possibility at most, it's not impossible that Max is simply wrong when she says the only difference is her friend's death.
Honestly, I'm hoping you're right. Not only would that be a great way to make sure they don't have to make two scenes for everything that involves Max's past (and you can't really ignore that past), but it would mean a chance to involve Chloe a tiny bit more than just a small text in one version of the game.

Looks like it follows the Died Clhoe route, seeing as its doesnt not show hints that its the that the comics did with max, Chloe and amber.
Although the Parallel world travel using maxine's power were exsplored in the comics follow the save chloe ending.

I like when devs take risks. I stand behind brave decisions. Make something canon whatever... or always work with multiple outcomes. I feel like we will see both timelines because Max can jump between them now. Or this is a totally different Max even.

My personal prediction is that Chloe is just going to be out of town or something like that. I doubt they have the resources to actually account for the big differences that the lis1 ending would cause, so they'll just avoid having her be in the game as much as possible. Sucks, but I'd rather have that than her being canonically dead.
