    Wow I really appreciate the attention to detail in this game. When you went back in from outside the ship (at 3:27), because it was raining you could actually see the water dripping off of Snake's clothing for a few seconds. It's such a minor thing but really shows how much thought they put in everything. It adds up.

      And this is why I love Kojima games. In Behind the Scenes of MGS4, the Snow/Dust was missing on the ledge when strafing left and right while hanging. He wanted to polish the game even more but in doing so it would create more Bugs. One of the Staff proposed to halt any Revisions to Stabilize it to be on time for Release but Kojima insisted to meet Players Expectation

    I don't think it's displayed like other characters but Sergei was voiced by Earl Boen, a prolific character actor your sure to recognize as the voice of Coach Oleander's, psycho butcher, father in Psychonauts, but he was also most famous as King Terenas in the Warcraft games, as well as the ghost pirate LeChuck in the Monkey Island series. He also appeared in live action as the recurring psychologist character in the first threeTerminator films.
    He passed away only last year and I figured this would ber a good opportunity for us to remember his distinctive voice again.

    I love that your playing this. I wanted to tell you this game has some interaction you can do you can shoot glass, magazines, bottles and even the ice holders and the ice melts if you watch it long enough. As far as why you want to knock people out instead of killing them you get stuff from them easier and rank but I know you don't care about that. Also yes if you shake them they do wake up faster but if you knock them out then shoot them with the dart they stay asleep longer. Few other things the game doesn't tell you while hanging you can do pull ups if you do enough your grip lasts longer and while in first person you can stand on your tip toes I don't know anywhere it helps but it's funny and you can hold people up if you get behind them and aim at them. They drop dogtags first but after they drop other things. Keep it up and buckle in it only get weirder from here.

    I think for guards dropping items, it's got a bit of a dynamic difficulty thing going on where they're more likely to drop things when you're low on supplies. So if you already have a lot of stuff, you might have to shake them a bunch of times before it rolls to drop something.
    Something else you can do, if you approach a guard from behind and hold up your gun, you'll hold them up and they'll put their hands up. You can then threaten them by pointing your gun at their head and they'll start to shake and drop an item. Bear in mind that if you don't knock them out then once you stop threatening them they'll pick their gun back up and call in an alert

    • @Coconut-219

    Some short points to make the tight spaces more bearable:
    Headshots are an instant KO/kill
    If you hold a gun to any enemy when close to them you can hold them up
    If holding up an enemy try to not take your gun off them
    At random some guards may still slowly go for a weapon while being held up, shoot them immediately
    If they have their hands up you can point a gun at their head when in front of them (or their groin because Kojima) and they'll give you a dog tag and supplies
    When in first person mode you can still move, specifically you can strafe around people while still holding them up

    Tranquilized enemies will suffer short-term amnesia and won't remember what happened to them when they wake up (unless they have bodily injuries) hence the M9 is the most overpowered weapon in the MGS games. As Otacon said, the tranq effectiveness depends on where you hit the enemy. Vital areas such as the head, heart and groin will result in an instant KO hence use the first person view and aim with the analog stick for wide movements, tap the D-Pad for minute adjustments.

    You can press the (iirc)shoulder buttons during codec calls to hear the character's thoughts.

    Easter eggs this episode from the top of my head:
    -You can mess with the video projector multiple times.
    -There's a soldier in the crowd not wearing pants.
    -When the timer ends, the commander will feel chatty and keep going for quite a bit longer.
    -Otacon will react to all kinds of photos, like pics of: posters, the Vulcan doll, Olga, the commander, etc.

      More to the long long list of easter eggs:
      - On the projector displaying the commander's speech you can see Gurlukovich's forces sneaking around in the background at a certain time.
      - If at 41:00 you hide in this little space and cause the pipe at the wall to fall down just as the guard passes by, a fun scene plays out in which the guard gets scared by another one.
      - You can enter the final room with RAY from multiple doors with slightly different cutscenes for each one.

    Sorry for repeating this (just in case it helps avoid frustration) - the camera's fighting you because it wants you to press against walls to scope out what's ahead, instead of staying in the normal view where you can't see much. And this one ~really~ punishes you for getting caught!
    You can press up against cover and pop out to aim a shot without messing around with the first-person camera too - using the cover like that to look around and move while hidden and take shots is an important mechanic (the 'tutorial' for the popout shots is criminal imo)
    Not telling anyone how to play or anything, I just think it helps to know what Kojima expects you to do sometimes (especially if it feels like something's wrong). The controls are tricky enough as it is!

  • @user-ju9vt7qg6f

    19:28 the flies follow you because the guard in that bottom area you just killed had flies following him. when you shake down his body and get his ration the flies will follow you instead so I guess his ration was rotten or something. there are all kinds of little things like that that are easily missed. in that room you were just in there were a few interactable things you can shoot at like that big glass panel, the bottles at the bar, the magazines, the monitor on the wall. the ice cubes in the ice bucket at the bar melt in real time! if you shoot at it and watch the ice cubes that come out they slowly get smaller and smaller until they're completely gone.

    You were curious why this is set in a Tanker on the Hudson of all places? Well early in the story's development, it was originally meant to be on a aircraft carrier in the middle-east where it would've been revealed that Liquid had faked his death and was planning on stealing nukes, but this was jettisoned when tensions in the real life middle-east began to heat up again. This was the early 2000's remember.
    While that probably would've made more sense for a Marine operation and RAY's deployment, you can see why Kojima didn't want to risk controversy, so how he aand his team tweaked things to still serve the story they wanted to tell.

      I was just thinking how silly that cutscene looked with Snake hiding while the soldiers opened the door, like it's meant to be tense - which if you've been playing stealthy, it would be! If you've just been fighting your way through murdering everyone it kinda loses what they were going for. People can play how they want, but it's not weird to say there's a way you're ~intended~ to approach it. It's explicitly and implicitly all over the design and narrative

    • @cactustactics
      @cactustactics 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@deathtoraiden2080 you're not supposed to be having direct firefights (outside of set pieces), that's kinda the point. You're heavily punished for having your presence discovered. Your mission is supposed to be sneaking in, not getting seen, doing the thing and getting out. That's the narrative!
      And you're given a huge number of tools to do it. Including one that functionally incapacitates enemies long enough for you to escape unnoticed (vs killing them to achieve the same effect) - it's literally your main weapon, designed around non-lethal stealth, given to you at the start of the game with a whole bunch of justification about why it fits the mission and why you should avoid killing people. And you don't even have time to use it against any marines because the story replaces them immediately - they don't actually exist as an enemy, you're given the tranq gun (and all its rationale) to use against the soldiers. That's the game design
      You only get a lethal gun later, and it attracts attention and punishes you for using it. And if you're using it to fight your way out of a situation, you're not doing the canon "sneaking in unnoticed" thing. You can ~play~ however you like (and you're given the tools to do it) but hiding, sneaking through the environment, avoiding killing people unnecessarily, and being a ghost nobody realised was there is absolutely the vibe the game is going for

    • @cactustactics
      @cactustactics 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@deathtoraiden2080 like I said, you can ~play~ however you like. Sneak around snapping every neck in the area or go on a guns-blazing rampage if you want! But the narrative and game design is based around stealth, and I dunno why it's a controversial take that Snake wouldn't murder a helpless stunned guy (after waiting around for him to get up) instead of just moving on, or knocking him out with a dart to the butt if he needs more time
      And yeah, the marines don't exist as an enemy. We're talking game design here remember, not story. The fact you run into some dudes in a stealth set-piece at the end doesn't change the fact that from the moment you were given the tranq gun and told to avoid killing people, your only enemies have been the soldiers. Snake doesn't "happen to still have" the M9 like you said in another comment - they literally designed it this way! They could have given you a suppressed USP at the beginning, or no gun at all - but they didn't. It's deliberate
      The intent is established immediately, and your lethal options are only broadened later - whether you use them is up to you, but the game is pretty clear through its design how it ~wants~ you to play. Is it really surprising to you that a "tactical espionage action" game with a slew of hiding and sneaking and distraction mechanics, an initial loadout of non-lethal weapons, strong anti-war themes, and a literal "sneak in, don't get seen, pictures of MetalGear" mission might be going for the "vibe" of a hero who sneaks in, doesn't get seen, doesn't kill people unless necessary, and gets out like he was never there, like a badass? Even if you don't agree I genuinely don't get where this wild disbelief is coming from, like these are new ideas in the stealth/spy genre or something
      I just think the design part is the most interesting bit, how it guides the player towards a certain playstyle without forcing it on them - especially compared to the previous game, where your non-lethal options were way more limited in usefulness. Front-loading the game with a knockout gun and exposition about why you should be using it is really interesting in that context imo, like Kojima saw how much neck snapping people were doing and wanted to provide and encourage an alternative. I just like encouraging people to think about this stuff - especially since it's what makes games unique vs other storytelling media. The design is part of that narrative since it shapes the experience, there's intent behind all these choices

    Not sure if it was mgs 2 or 3 but the patrols get more aggressive and more frequent based on your actions. like getting seen or killing people. so sometimes it's better to traq people rather than kill them,

      the only thing that changes is ammount of enemies and actions they can perform (like looking underneath things or in lockers) but im pretty sure its based on the difficulty, they didn't introduce adaptive AI until MGSV

      while I agree with you guys on the AI not beign changed do remember than some of these behaviour at the time where njot based in AI but rather in certain patterns, the orginal VR missions did had a mention of patrols beign more agressive if the body they found was dead, while this was MGS 1 VR missions and that was not impremented in either game but just a mention in it, MGS 2 GDD does state that kind of mechanic existed in the development process as for its implementation that I cannot verify as at least for me MGS 2 is my least played game of the franchise simply because at the time I could find it and when I got it I had already seen a friend played it.
      Also this just to say that yes AI was not changed but there where plans to develop a patrol mechanic around it (in its GDD)and I cannot personally say it works or not but there is also a tiny mention in MGS 1 VR missions disc. My source for this is both the GDD of MGS 2 orignal version and some game analysis (I am a game analyst just in case)

    Aiming? For the majority of the game I think it was expected we were going to use the auto aim button. On controller is the left bumper? There is a first person view mode but it still isn’t a first person shooter game I guess

    headshots are instant knock out with the m9. you have to get used to aiming to survive later points in the game this is just the tutorial so i would recommend practicing. also rushing through as you have noticed usually gets you in trouble and it snowballs as later areas become more guarded. you cant just rely on area transitions in this. good luck for the future. also when you are in alert/caution mode you may miss certain cutscenes so try to make it to the next areas without being in alert mode. the section before the triple sensors there was a unique cutscene that only plays under this condition so you missed that for example. (edit) i realized you reset and saw it. maybe you dont care but i just wanted you to know in case you do. hope this helps.

    Ah the stupidest plot point in any Kojima game, the magical Liquid arm. Lol! Even by Kojima/Metal Gear standards, this is still so dumb and completely wrecks any semblance of believability, even in a world of psychics and spirit animals. Still, gotta love the intro to Metal Gear Ray.

    Fun fact the LaLiLuLeLo is gibberish in Japanese because they don’t have any syllables containing L in Japanese, so for the average Japanese person LaLiLuLeLo is impossible to pronounce properly

    • @Nexdex
      @Nexdex 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      That is a factoid often repeated in the MGS fandom but it isn't true. They simply use the normal kana for ra ri ru re ro/la li lu le lo in Japanese.
      These can be romanized either way, using the "l" variant is probably just because it sounds better to say in English.

    • @zummone
      @zummone 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Wrong, lalilulelo is just the Japanese equivalent of the American lollapalooza, it is not gibberish because you can simply write it as らりるれろ and read it both ways, rarirurero or lalilulelo, some people might even have a propension to use L in stead of R, they are completely interchangeable as far as Japanese is concerned.

    • @cactustactics
      @cactustactics 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Japanese 'r' sound is kinda somewhere between an English 'r' and an 'l', depends on the word (and the accent). Really it's just all the kana that start with r read out in order: らりるれろ
      dang that was fun to type on the Japanese keyboard, you kinda swipe around a circle. The real Konami code
