    I have 10 years of roofer and I have never seen this in my life, but I recommend that you weld the seams is better, you also have to put glue on the membrane and the floor both parts must have glue.

    5fts all around the picture frame-edges, hi wind areas and easier to work with. Good job

    I've been doing tpo for over ten years and I've never seen it put on exactly like that but I can save for someone that knows nothing you guys did okay on the layout but I would definitely be sure your welds are welded tight and check any Wells to make sure there's no chances for a leak or fishmouths (little openings )

    I greatly appreciate the video as like you I could not find many video's directed to the DIY crowd. I am installing a small addition with TPO and the architect has 10" rafters with 5/8" OSB and the single membrane roofing over that. I am putting rock wool insulation between the rafters then topping with the OSB. I was curious about the comment on having insulation and barrier before the OSB otherwise rotting in 10 yrs. Anyway thanks for taking the time to share your project.

      Yes, I didn't agree with that comment. It can't hurt however.

    The edge of the material is suppose to extend over the side of the roof and down 5 inches and then you use a stainless steel 1 inch strip and stainless screws to attach the tpo to your fascia. its suppose to be glued and screwed down with that long strip of metal.. when you apply the TPO material to the roof you don't hold it up high you let it lay on top of its self when its folded back and roll it evenly on to the roof.. as you roll it out you apply your glue

    Hey man I recommend you use insulation then sheet rock on top of the insulation then start putting the tpo when you lay the first one the should have dots on the side of put screws on every other dot for the next tpo put it 1 or 2 inches over then the screws you have it all in place use a heat gun and sort off weld it together but good job

    • @mbrenengen

      Whatever they sell at Menards. It is the stuff that goes with it. Two years in and perfect.

    You should have put down iso board screwed down with plates. Then lay your tpo out and glue on both your tpo and iso board.. for your drip edge you should have used 3 by 3 white.. also your seams need to be welded for your tape for metal put down primer before applying use cleaner before applying primer

  • @marknelson6357
    @marknelson6357 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You did a few things a little funky, but it should last for some time. You could have eliminated the OSB board on top if you had used polyisocyaurate insulation rather than expanded polystyrene. And the TPO directly over wood doesn't qualify for a warranty, so possibly not as good. Your edges should have been done differently, you're supposed to have screws around the perimeter, so the drip should have gone on top of the TPO and cover strip tape to flash it. I hope that metal vent isn't a flue pipe because heat will damage the TPO. I would have extended that pipe higher and used a peel and stick pipe boot, otherwise you would have to use elastoform which is difficult to install. You also need at least 1 screw and membrane plate at the penetration. The water based glue you used is pretty awful stuff, standard solvent based bonding adhesive is much easier to use and holds much better, but very very stinky.
    You did a great job though!

    • @mbrenengen
      @mbrenengen  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Perfectly. Some of the seams around the vents that I did melted in the very hot sun, and I had to redo them, but the seems between the sheets of TPO are holding up great.

    I think heat welding is better than using caulking

    • @mbrenengen
      @mbrenengen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you mean for the seams or the edges? For the seams, this tape-stuff was what the manufacturer's instructions said to use. It worked well, especially for a novice who doesn't have a heat-welder. For the edges, you might be right, although the tape worked well there, but it is expensive ~$1/foot. Thanks!

      @@matthewbernstein1694 I had not seen anything like this either, that is why I made the video. If you download the instructions from the company that made the TPO, this is how they tell you -- well, me, a homeowner -- to do it.

      The seems look good just i would get those tpo boots and then get a heat gun from Amazon there cheap like a hundred bucks because that caulking will fail you might have to redo those in like 6 7 years
