Bloody Kaiju Agree wholeheartedly! Alien versus Predator? Alien wins.....EVERY time, the Predator is almost goofy and cuddly in comparison to that sleek, jet black, slime drenched killing machine, I absolutely love the Alien films, and the Alien, Giger knocked it out of the park and into the next county there!

Personally I prefer the isolation xenomorph which feels like a updated version
@@haramberoth117 Personally i think the design for bug chap was exactly as it was intended, unrestricted by the suit. The isolation version does look pretty cool as well though.

It looks best because it's 7 feet tall, unlike the rest of the movies.
@@haramberoth117 I do like it too. Specifically due to the legs. Whereas the big chap, looking at it standing, it looks weird. For the Isolation one, I would change 2 things, the color, to be like the big chap, and the head from big chap as well. Then its perfect.
It's that eerie human skull visible beneath his semi translucent dome that really make this "xeno" stand out above those that came later. It's simultaneously creepy as heck, and a constant reminder of where it came from. This design is hauntingly beautiful! I don't think the Big chap will even be bettered as a creature design, well done Mr Giger.....

Big Chap is the only 7 foot tall Xenorph on screen. He's horrifying.
The Big Chap is my favourite Xenomorph. The design of the hands, stomach and the skull underneath the dome is the most disturbing. I love the back tubes, and that spine appendage at the base of its neck. Personally I would have loved to see one of Gigers original concepts on screen, such as the exposed skull. Big Chap's species is my personal favorite sci-fi species, out of all the other creatures their respective creators have brought to life.
I truly appreciate this channel. My dad took me to see "Aliens" in the theater when I was ten years old and I loved it! We watched "Alien" on tape a few days later and (at the time) I didn't appreciate the original, but as I got older I loved it too. Keep up the great work, I've learned a lot about what I consider one of the all time best creatures in media.
It has always fascinated me that 1979 not only gave us Alien but also Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Both iconic films, and both at opposite spectrums of a view of not only space and the different modes of travel, but also the different types of people governing space. I don't see them as rivals as I love both franchises. It's just fun to see the feelings the creators have towards going beyond our own world.

To me knowing how indistructable the xenomorphs are and the fact that the species is known to survive in space to me it's likely "big chap" could still be alive, I have a book I'd like to write that involves such an idea that he could have survived and continued his havic in some fashion hopefully one day I can present it to Titan books (they own the novel rights to the alien series)

Luckily for you in the new Alien Romulus that’s coming out leaks have told that big chap was discovered floating in space and they reverse engineered the black goo from Prometheus that was in his DNA

For me the major signifier of the Big Chap suit is the clear dome so that you can see the skull they used while building the head.

Even though "Aliens" is my favorite of all movies in this franchise, that "Big Chap" as you call it is the ONLY one that is really scary looking. It's more evil and demonic looking than all other Xenomorphs that have come after it, and it also truly looks like it's part machine, like a living, killing machine but also biological as well. Very fcked up, as was most of Gigers artworks, from where this thing was inspired.
Hope it will eventually look like this again.

I prefer to think of the Alien's name as "Kane's Son" or "The Eight Passenger". 'Big Chap' is comical and almost an insult to the grandaddy Xenomorph of them all.
I believe Alien was filmed in England with a mostly British crew, so that's probably why he got the nickname "Big Chap". Because British people call each other "chap".

I just nodiced, Big Chap moved in a more gracefully than any Xenomorph to proceed him.

Hey Guys, Anyone think that the big chap is still alive. I know its a crazy theory but Ridley Scott did say that Xenomorphs can regenerate. It could have reformed itself in the vaccum of space just to roll into a ball, drifting endlessly until disturbed. Thats what I originally believed the Alien from Isolation was until I played through it. Its not entirely unreasonable. Not to mention the whole deleted airlock sequence with the regenerating arm. The evidence is there. Also I find it hard to believe that a salamander from earth has superior healing to a creature like a xenomorph.

Big Chap is my favorite Scifi alien, since his biomechanical appearance made him look beautiful, Beautiful since he has an elegant and symmetrical design and also Bolaji Badejo was a good actor when playing Big Chap since his movements were quite believable and natural.

Of course a British crew working on the first Alien film would use the term Big Chap as it's British colloquial to describe anyone bigger than average. The models and miniatures and some other scenes that were shot @ Bray Studios (as well as Shepperton Studios) for the first Alien film despite what it says on the Blu-rays now Bray Studios is actually in my local town of Maidenhead in Berkshire, England 🏴. #HappyAlienDay!👽

This creature performance and costume effect is by far the most natural. The creature comes across as a real animal, like a shark or eel stalking the corridors; totally devoid of motivation beyond its primal instincts. The slow stalking ambush is always creepier than being assaulted by a horde of bugs imo. Aliens is cool, but I like to imagine a world where Alien remained the tone setting film of the franchise.

The thing that one may find interesting about Big Chap is that it's mannerisms are different from other Xenomorphs that we've seen in that it displays a streak of sadism. Compare Lambert's death in Alien with Clemens's death in Alien 3, and many others for that matter. Other Xenomorphs show a clear emphasis on killing their prey as quickly and efficiently as possible, they don't screw around and seem to be more robotic. Big Chap though seems to display a bit of personality, toying with it's prey and seeming to relish in their fear. After all, why else was it taking it's sweet time in killing Brett and Lambert?

Big Chap by a wide margin. As @destroyerofskulls3036 says in this thread, this Xeno seems to have a bit of personality. This view grows on you as you study some of its behavior.
Big Chap's basic and not-so-basic curiosity, such as when it's watching Lambert, Brett, Jonesy, or Ripley. Or, maybe, a bit of cockiness, as when it displays its various mouth weapons for Ripley during the shuttle showdown buildup. And definitely not totally out of the realm of possibility is a bit of the inexperienced sexual fumbling of a relative "youngster" (and I mention this only because of Kane's DNA at work).
Trying my best to block the nearly impossible-to-film "crab walk" from my mind, I try to focus on the rest of its body language: in what must feel like a "submissive" position, sensing a possible "mate" and even erecting its tail to a higher degree to possibly follow and understand new instincts, drives, and perhaps waiting for a response in kind. And THEN, when Lambert's mind is totally unable to cope, Big Chap stands but does not strike, almost wanting to (and I know this is unlikely) continue its assessment/courting (two extremes) of this different specimen. It doesn't even begin to reveal its layered mouth weaponry, choosing instead to almost >smile< in a fashion that seems tame (but certainly feels otherwise to us, and as Ridley Scott calmly spoke to a disappointed Veronica Cartwright after she found that she was being cast as Lambert, paraphrased, "Lambert is the emotional content of the audience").
The point is Big Chap was very much a "Big Chap" in every way, including its personality.

I noticed stranger things took some inspiration from this. The Demogorgon was also bigger than later variants, on it's own and more intelligent and stealthy.
