Alien Theory Absolutely Awesome video! Thank you! Was this a comic you were reading from? Would love to know which one it is and if there is a whole series of them?
PJ the trade of the comic is called Alien:Labyrinth there is also a novelization version of the story. If you get the chance to read it I highly recommend it, especially for Dr. Church's back story all I gotta say is OMFG on that part

best thing is that he’s an unreliable narrator - you have no idea if he made it all up or bent the truth.. it’s one of the best stories in the aliens universe
I think the observation that captive aliens separated from the hive eventually die is somewhat confirmed in the first Alien film, when it shows the creature becoming lethargic and indifferent in the Nostromo's escape pod.
sam rizzardi it went into hibernation mode hoping that Ripley will transport him to more humans, and had she not disturbed it, the xeno would had ben transported to Earth.
If I'm remembering it right, it was mentioned in an interview that an old idea for it was that the alien was at the end of its life cycle, it was born, grew up, created new eggs and was just dying of age.
This man was caught in a hive, and was forced to do some horrible things to survive. He even went along willingly with what the aliens were making him do, just to gain the freedom to explore more, find out why they were acting a bit oddly. He found they were suffering due to a mold. He then secretly started poisoning their food with it. The chest jester he surgically removed from himself was dead. It didn’t survive the growth process.
It's impressive that writers for the alien universe have been able to capture the indomitable nature of humanity by depicting a creature that should be superior by all measures.
If only the newer movies had characters as interesting characters as Dr. Church. Alien should be grimdark and gritty, but also give us good humans to be able to latch on to. I doubt we'll ever get anything close to this dark in an Alien movie again since Disney (real life Weyland-Yutani) owns the IP now

Dr. Church is a really interesting character/villain. He sort of reminds me of Dr. Desty Nova from "Battle Angel Alita" in that they are both sympathetic, yet sadistic, insane, yet logical, very well written, and not just an evil scientist stereotype.
I remember reading this comic when I was in high school. It's 4 issues if I remember correctly, and it's quite brilliant. I recall 2 things in particular, a scene where the doctor is scaring the pants off everyone as he walks a xenomorph down a corridor outfitted with some kind of harness which renders it harmless. And the sequence which details the doctor's own history with the xenomorph, which you hint at in the video, and involves his family. It's incredibly disturbing. But also very well done. Thanks for making this video!
This is a pretty interesting take .. thanks for sharing this ... but if xenomorphs can essentially "sense" humans, it creates a question as to how Newt (or anyone) could hide from them for any appreciable time.
Perhaps it's like us reading facial expressions, we can only read the emotions if the person is actually in view. Or maybe Newt and other people who survive have such strong wills to live that it deters the alien from chasing and attacking.
Maybe the will to not be seen? Because when you're hiding, a large portion of your thinking is in dont get found. And when it "sees" you, the strong will to stay hidden is replaced with "oh no" and it sees you?
Labyrinth still has some of the most disturbing content I've read in a comic. The whole backstory of Church was haunting, not for what was shown, but what was implied.
there is a hive mind but also a hierarchy in which lower rung members listen and obey higher tier individuals, as well as individual thought and a collective mentality meaning the more individual xenos present in a given area the smart each becomes as they share experience and ideas with one another.
I think in the series Aliens: Stronghold that they said it was pheromones that let the Aliens tell friend from foe. It allowed them to have an android alien infiltrate that hive. But there is a lot to support that they have some psychic ability going on there as well. A lot of the comics and books imply that they cause nightmares too.
I'm not usually a fan of the comics, but Labyrinth was just so bizarre and interesting, I wound up getting the comics; and the book version made me pity the captive xenos a bit more. Awesome job on this video. Looking forward to the further ones on this comic.
I've not read this story, but the xenomorphs having massive structures of nerve tissue designed to receive signals, a vulnerability to powerful electromagnetic waves, and a hive mind of sorts suggests something like a 'natural' wi-fi system. The same system could be sensitive enough to pick up the stray signals even from quite small amounts of nerves firing, with a big enough 'antenna', or even the interference patterns created in ambient microwaves and short frequency radio by moving objects containing conductive materials (materials like water for example). OK, that's about 85% my own headcannon at the end, but I like it - it goes well with the bio-mechanoid' nature of the creatures, as first conceived, and would explain why they don't need eyes per se - that elongated head is their eye, letting them see in microwave and radio frequencies, and letting them hear/perceive their hive mind. i can even work in the Queen's headcrest - as the wi-fi system's hub and server she would need a better, more directable antenna, and the headcrest, just by artistic coincidence, looks like something that might fulfil such a role.
About the armed man or the pig test: I like the concept that an alien would go after the foe first to prevent a threat before feeding, but the idea that it doesn't care about its own well-being and only the hive is kinda silly. Because every xeno makes the hive. And if every drone/warrior tossed self preference aside, their numbers would drop seriously low with the Queen crown-palming at her dead defenders. Another example say in the game alien isolation. When Amanda holds up the torch gun, the drone pauses and briefly covers its face, not wanting to get burned. And instead of continuing a rushed attack, it approaches slowly as to give Ripley a false sense of security before knocking her down and hiding again to try another sneak assault. In other words, it still attacked but with caution.
Its actually very common in hiveminds for individuals to risk death in defense of the hive. Take ants and bees for example. When a threat is detected all workers and soldiers drop what they're doing and mobilize to defend the hive even if it means they die. Because the queen can always produce more young and thus the queen is essential to the hive, thus the queen must be protected at all costs from attackers. Based off Church's observations xenomorphs operate on a similar selfless sacrifice system. If it means starving to death or being killed so be it, but an attacker cannot be allowed to make it to the queen. In a hivemind self preservation doesnt matter because the individual self does not matter. More young can always be created and you are no more special or important than any of the other drones or soldiers. Even if it means the hives population is wiped out.
Gary Oak I see what you’re saying. I can see the drones defending the queen and risking injury. But I think they are more than just insects and would know to avoid injury while still defending its hive.
The Alien Isolation Xenomorph is a healthy individual, and was most likely aware it was not part of a hive. The Labyrinth Xenomorph was not. It's likely that its behavior was modified due to stress, time away from the hive-mind, and hunger.
Alien isolation isnt canon per se, since they bended the canon for playability, no human would be able to hide from a xenomorph since they track u by psychic sense and pheromones.
Sometimes I wonder if these Aliens are real somewhere in the universe 😂 They have created such a deep story to them and the science behind the functioning of the alien in this canon especially, is so detailed, almost believable, you can’t imagine how people come up with such specific detail. This is why I never get bored of the alien universe, it just keeps on giving.
4:06 So if strong EM fields can give Xenos an ice-cream headache, perhaps an EMP would act like a flashbang grenade; momentarily disorienting or even stunning them. Perhaps if a powerful EMP was detonated in proximity to a queen, it could disrupt the hive mind, as her pain would be felt by her children and their connection would be disrupted, leaving them unable to coordinate their actions.
Telepathy makes sense, they sense their surroundings, they don't have visible eyes or ears so they just sense what's around them and communicate with each other telling everyone in the hive everything, and it all must go back to the queen, so wherever one xenomorph has been they basically all have been there, just a thought
Metatron didn't know the Metatron also enjoyed alien vids, it's always awesome seeing a channel I respect show the same respect to another channel I cherish.
It would be really interesting if the creators of the Alien franchise make an Alien movie with Dr. Church as the main character and have it about his crazy experiments on the Xenomorphs. There was an Alien movie where the Xenomorphs were tested on but it didn't go too much into length, I think it was a scene or two and don't know / recall / remember if Dr. Church was behind the experiments in that movie.
kowalveli when the studio says that they will use the costume character in scenes and then they dont. yeah i felt betrayed whats wrong with that? i understand its 2017 and every movie uses cgi almost but they lied to us
I had a couple of issues from this series, I forgot all about them until I saw this video. I remember the panel where the doctor is leading an alien in a harness around the laboratory halls.
great videos and theories! ALIENS: LABYRINTH has always been my favorite side story in all the films, games, books, and graphic novels (with Rogue an Stronghold in 2nd and 3rd place) - the writing and art really captures a monster somehow scarier than the xenomorph and I finally found the novel based on this comic that goes even deeper into Church's background with the xenos and what prompted his research. SUCH A COMPELLING STORY! OMG, Hollywood - the script is already written and we've got great young animators and practical FX people everywhere. Let's get a new, fresh, look at the Alien and PLEASE LET RIPLEY R.I.P.! Her story is over. This needs to be a film or series!
Very interesting. My only exposure to the franchise is the first two films and some of your other videos. As for the experiments themselves, they all sound intriguing and valid. I would object to the reckless endangerment of human life, however, though I suppose the logical answer of giving every human enough firepower to kill it would present a supply problem.
Once gain, you exceed my expectations with your attention to detail and your rhythmic voiceover. Sometimes the ones who admire the creatures are almost as dangerous as the creatures themselves.
Hard to tell what’s canon or non, but I think Xenomorphs do communicate via telepathy. They’re massive heads do give off they’re psychic vibe, but it’s possible they communicate via they’re shrieks or echolocation.
The elongated head being a receiving antenna is a neat idea. It could have a RADAR system for low light environments, but it would not help see through metal.
Its nice comic novel even more interesting some of the alien movies like Ailen4 and Covenant. Church is not the only survivor of the chestburster removal we do have Dr Shaw even if it was a trilobite. Dr Church also survived an alien hive not many have done that. Funny that Dr Church refer to the alien hive as something that belongs to him. However, its reasonable that you lose you mind if you have been captured in the alien hive for weeks. Its logic that Aliens would communicate telepathically and if they can hear noises im sure they can communicate via hissing as well. I recall that Dr Church said that Aliens could sense what was in front of them like choosing food rather than to escape. Not sure if aliens can see or perhaps they are more like bats.
Speaking of the "hivemind" - it's safe to assume that they are like ants in so many ways (their blind loyalty to their Queen, their aggressive nature, etc.) ; Rather than telephathy, they use pheromones to communicate most of their information, like positioning, disposition and mood. Just a thought.
It was a reference to a Star Trek meme. Eyes are organs which translate visual signals ie. light oscillation to the brains. If the eyes are inside the skull they can't do that. That doesn't mean they are blind, they just don't see the way humans do. They have senses alright, they know their surroundings but eyes that are in darkness see nothing.
Umm, if we can see the skull, what makes you think the eyes are blind? Clearly, the animal using other senses as well, but sure the eyes still work, they are just heavily shielded.
I would have thought it more likely that the aliens communicate with each other via sound, ultrasound and pheremones. I'm not a fan of the idea that they use telepathy, it doesn't seem very likely.
I have two answers. 1. This is made up, none of it is likely. 2. an ant separated from the hive will roam around an do dumb stuff, millions of ants together will form bridges to cross rivers. The more ants there are, the cleverer they get. They have a hive mind.
Also when comparing the Xenomorph species. In many ways it acts more like a bee hive than any other insect hive. Bee hives have queens. A bee hive can only have 2 queens in the same hive if it’s mother and daughter. All the bees but the drones are female. Which makes sense if the entire Xenomorph species is female. That’s how a Xenomorph can become a queen since it’s already female from birth. Bees scout for food then relay it back to the hive. In which more bees accompany it to retrieve the food. Also that bees guard the hive only it the target is presented as a threat. The guards don’t chase after a threat but attack it if it tries to enter the hive. If a non-threatening target, say an Android, enters the hive. A Xenomorph CAN ignore it until it presents a threat. I can keep going but I’m assuming people get the idea between the similarities. It’s the Bee Hive but as a sentient race in more ways than we could have hoped for.
I think the theory that despite escaping from a hive and surviving against incredible odds, he didn’t exactly escape “unscathed” or unaffected by the xeno presence, his empathy might be understandable for most creatures, but if a xenomorphs behavior is not “under its control” and it’s incredibly violent nature is something that exist in all things capable of violence, then I don’t see the reason I should reject MY OWN instinctual urges to blow it to pieces and mount its head on my wall, or why I should feel pity and empathy for something that would only ever delay my death so that it’s children could leech nutrients from my body and then eat through my chest cavity
From what I've had gather, Xeno's seem to posses strong enhance senses to electromagnetism. Similar to what sharks and electric ells posses, but it is a more modify version enabling them to sense what emotions that a creatures makes when it would encounter one. It also may explain how the creatures have a 'hive mind', they understand each others emotions and possible enable directly communicate with each other. As for their solitary deaths as one may call it, Xeno's are clearly a social species (with their own kin of course) and that being forcibly alone may cause a "lost of will" affecting the animals health causing eventual death to the creature.
xenomorph being even slightly psychic makes them scarier, i think. i wonder if you would be willing to make a video where you discuss defense strategies vs aliens? surely you could draw from the materiel but i want to know what you think would be viable or permanent vs them, or even just a compilation of failed ideas?
They most likely communicate in a multitude of ways at the same time. first there could be a base telepathic hive mind that is connected to the Queen. Then they could possibly communicate verbally as well with each individual "Drone" or have a form of bio-chemical communication like some insects have with each other. Watching the "cannon films", as the two AVP movies don't count, my hypothesis kind of makes sense as in different films they seem to communicate in different ways. This is most likely due to the different writers not taking multiple movie's continuity into account when they write their scripts. It would be interesting if they made some of the best Alien comic book runs into cannon films as some of them would fit in well with the 6 cannon movies. It would also be nice if they fully and properly linked the Predator franchise to the Alien franchise. As having the Predator's become aware of the new species, created by David, as new hunting stock could make for an interesting movie. They could do a full and proper version of the Alien vs Predator graphic novel, which would fit in as a introduction to showing the Predators and a good Alien movie. One which takes place on a full fledged colony instead of some people randomly finding a planet with Xenomorphs on it for once. It would be nice to see colonists trying to fight a Xenomorph infestation and how "some" survive.

You should cover the Xeno-scout in Team Fortress 2
And the Burst Chester Taunt :B
Need a dispenser here!
0:19 I love little extras like the flickering screens. And a good horror comic read. Good stuff!
Or they are just insects, and nothing more.
2:10 (The Terminator in 3 seconds)
Sometimes I wonder if these Aliens are real somewhere in the universe 😂 They have created such a deep story to them and the science behind the functioning of the alien in this canon especially, is so detailed, almost believable, you can’t imagine how people come up with such specific detail. This is why I never get bored of the alien universe, it just keeps on giving.
I appreciate these experiments. I always wanted to study these creatures too. We need more ppl like this
This video is wonderful. And I like how you show the pages as physical evidence and read the passages.
Hope we'll get to see that in Aliens V where colonial marines would use emp grenades & warheads in taking out xenomorph infested colony
Telepathy makes sense, they sense their surroundings, they don't have visible eyes or ears so they just sense what's around them and communicate with each other telling everyone in the hive everything, and it all must go back to the queen, so wherever one xenomorph has been they basically all have been there, just a thought
Amazing dive into Alien lore and the iconic characters. Please keep them coming!
Good video, thanks :)
Metatron
Found you
Hey Metatron ;]
Hey Metatron
Never knew you were into aliens
cchdz predator weaponry... or a nuke
Metatron didn't know the Metatron also enjoyed alien vids, it's always awesome seeing a channel I respect show the same respect to another channel I cherish.
I never read the comic, but I did read the novelization of Labyrinth. Damn good story.
Whoever wrote Dr Church’s dialogue is a goddamn genius
It would be really interesting if the creators of the Alien franchise make an Alien movie with Dr. Church as the main character and have it about his crazy experiments on the Xenomorphs. There was an Alien movie where the Xenomorphs were tested on but it didn't go too much into length, I think it was a scene or two and don't know / recall / remember if Dr. Church was behind the experiments in that movie.
That's really cool. I love the way the Dark Horse comics extended the mythology and mystique of the Alien into the corners of human psychology
That's a really nice bit of editing and effects work @ 0.19
I started to FEEL for the Xenomorph Doc Church needs his own movie
Alien Theory are you going to explore Church's origins?
Your other video that explained Church's backstory shines perfect light on why be is the way is. He is a man that had seen things
just finished watching the making of Covenant , that shit was amazing , make you appreciate the film even more
kowalveli lols. all the makeup and custome art work for tbe xeno costume..
waste of fucking time and resources!!!
CGI ,yeah I know ,wish they could use more of the real stuff
kowalveli i felt betrayed as a fan
did you expect the non CGI alien in the movie ? dude its 2017 , the studio WOULD NOT ALLOW THAT SHIT at any cost ,trust me !
kowalveli when the studio says that they will use the costume character in scenes and then they dont. yeah i felt betrayed whats wrong with that? i understand its 2017 and every movie uses cgi almost but they lied to us
Honestly man this is the best video u have made. Fantastic info may better than Covenant.
I love your videos about the comics.
One of the best alien comics
I had a couple of issues from this series, I forgot all about them until I saw this video. I remember the panel where the doctor is leading an alien in a harness around the laboratory halls.
Hell yeah! killin it with alien content my man
great videos and theories!
This is amazing 🙌
A new look on the Alien series 🤘
Once gain, you exceed my expectations with your attention to detail and your rhythmic voiceover. Sometimes the ones who admire the creatures are almost as dangerous as the creatures themselves.
Can you do a video on the Alien king from the comic/novelization of Aliens: Rogue
I love the Labyrinth comic story. I think I've read it 5 or 6 times. Great video as always!
The science in this is so thorough it seems real.
Wow these vids are so great. Thank you for these tremendous efforts. Really enjoying all of them
Its nice comic novel even more interesting some of the alien movies like Ailen4 and Covenant. Church is not the only survivor of the chestburster removal we do have Dr Shaw even if it was a trilobite.
Dr Church also survived an alien hive not many have done that. Funny that Dr Church refer to the alien
hive as something that belongs to him. However, its reasonable that you lose
you mind if you have been captured in the alien hive for weeks. Its logic that
Aliens would communicate telepathically and if they can hear noises im sure
they can communicate via hissing as well. I recall that Dr Church said that Aliens could
sense what was in front of them like choosing food rather than to escape. Not
sure if aliens can see or perhaps
they are more like bats.
In Alien Covenant it was revelied that the Xenomorphs had eyes inside their heads.
CAN'T SEE SHIT!
Actually, they see plenty.
Yeah they have better senses than humans
It was a reference to a Star Trek meme.
Eyes are organs which translate visual signals ie. light oscillation to the brains. If the eyes are inside the skull they can't do that. That doesn't mean they are blind, they just don't see the way humans do. They have senses alright, they know their surroundings but eyes that are in darkness see nothing.
Umm, if we can see the skull, what makes you think the eyes are blind? Clearly, the animal using other senses as well, but sure the eyes still work, they are just heavily shielded.
The only thing I’d hate more then being chased by a alien, is being a alien under Dr Church’s contro.
Really enjoyed this! Can't wait for the next addition to the movie franchise.
Anyone else noticed that the captive Xenomorphs had their tail scythes cut off?
I would have thought it more likely that the aliens communicate with each other via sound, ultrasound and pheremones. I'm not a fan of the idea that they use telepathy, it doesn't seem very likely.
in fact they use pheromones only to hunt
Your vids are getting better and better. Good job 🖒😁🖒
Great video you should do audiobooks I can't find anyone that does the Aliens books
Man I’d love if you did this with the Aliens:Stronghold comics and Aliens:Dead Orbit!
We need a movie series about Dr. Church
Def cover Church's story. His childhood is more than interesting!
This is the first meaningful story in the franchise since the first 3 movies!
Can we take a min to appreciate the artwork in this Labyrinth series
Such a profound concept, fascinating
Well done man.Read this some years ago.then read it again and alowed myfelf to be immersed in it and, it was the most terrifing thing i had ever read.
Very Badass info there man, keep it coming!!
Dr. Church is right: Mad science is best science!
I laughed how the whole 6:00 on dialog is the Apocalypse Now Brando Speech
David must be really interest in this data.
I didn't realize it for a second, but MAN THIS DOCTOR HAS A BIG FOREHEAD!
Great video man!
Really Nice Videos bro. Keep up the good work.
I loved labyrinth!
0:16 bro thinks he's Gendo
Be origonal and use a meme that isent dead
Excellent analysis!! Very impressive..
great video, new information about the xenomorphs, really enjoyed it, thanks!
Anyone else being recommended these videos 6 years later and just going on a binging spree?
I'm so enchanted by these Dr Church videos, so disgusting and awesome.
