The refurbishment of the trains include:
-Replaced destination board on train front
-AC motor
-New moquette
-New accommodation for wheelchairs
-LED lighting
-CCTV cameras
-New & clearer audio announcements
-LED screens inside of the train
-Adjustments to door buzzer
-Replaced flooring
Lots of moaners in the comment section I see.
I can’t see anything but a 1000% improvement on the dingy original interiors. They’ve done a great job.
they look pretty fugly to me
im gonna miss the old washing machines
I really like the new announcements. They don't sound nearly as robotic to me as the sub-surface fleet. Now get these on the Northern line. The butchered Celia announcements have had their day.
These are only temporary while they find a female voice actor
@@railwaymedialondon Are you certain?
@@railwaymedialondonis it? Because as far as I am aware they’re there to stay… even the W&C got those stupid announcements🙃
I think theyre great. Right tone, authoritative without sounding aggressive. Dont know why people dont like them
this train is it bit sound like S7 stock
Because they use similar motors
Hopefully the refurbished 1992 stock trains don’t break down as much as the old ones
Goodbye Unrefurbished 1992 stock, we will miss you, I always rode it
You seem sad to see a shit train go
yeah, that's what i mean, THIS SHIT TRAIN@@michaelkeeley8594
I love different type of seats refurbished 1992 stock.
@@michaelkeeley8594it’s not shit. It was amazing unlike these are shit. Announcements sound so shit too. Then the motors won’t be the same as the old ones
@@ShabzKnowledgeable2ndYT the old motors were the main reason why the 92 stock were unreliable pieces of shit, take off your rose tinted glasses and realise that the trains you grew up with weren't good, I grew up with them and I despise them, the refurb is a necessity for these god awful units.
1:45 i thought i was the only one that makes 3 tone noises
this is the alarm from when these trains first entered service in the 90s
I know that
it will be a long time before we see more refurbished trains on the Central Line
I used to use the previous 1962 stock to and from work.
From what I remember they were much better than the 1992 have ever been.
At least you could open the Windows.
Although everything looks orange here, it’s actually red. Poles, moquette, front of the train and doors.
Can confirm it’s red. Not sure why it looks like that on your end
I was so confused why the interior looked orange, the orange looks nice to be fair 😅
Burnt orange, I'd say.
hopefully they dont put these motors on the 96 >:(
the new motor albeit not as fascinating as the old seems so far sounding quite reliable and can go stably 60mph!
They are likely better mounted to the bogies too. Unlike the DC ones which werent as good. These sound better for sure. But i will miss the old washing machine sound
@@bb-3653new motors are growing on me tbh
@@B9TL205 each motor though is costing 45K. A lot of dough. But they are high torque
Great vid, I feel the new announcements are a bit too verbose but probably quite useful for those with additional ailments. I was wondering, how do you track which train is gojng to be where? Is there an equivalent to RealTimeTrains for the tube that allows you to search the diagrams or is it just special insider knowledge?
There’s a website called intertube that lets you track tube trains that are currently running, but knowing anything ahead of time is insider knowledge
I added these paths to the emergency timetable - surprised to see them operating !
Can’t be love the open and close buttons are still there
The interior design and perhaps the announcers are the only good things about these refurbished trains, the AC motors sound Crap, I prefer the old Traction Motors
All that refurbishment but they couldn't afford pain 😭
im sure that door closing alarm wont get unbearable really quickly
It’s unbearable enough already, and I’ve even seen a couple of times where the beeping gets stuck and continuously plays for a good 30 seconds after the doors have closed and the train is moving. Hopefully that gets fixed with the refurb lol
Hey brother i think we met on the train nearer watford jnc? On the electrostar. If so then good to meet you
why does the motor sound like the Victoria line at 1:04
cause they are being upgraded
This refurbished train is rare who agrees?
The new announcements are awful
They’re not
They’re not and even I love the old announcements. But these are clearer and louder. As much as I loved the old announcements a lot of them were very muffled
It’s not so much the announcements I don’t like they sound sm better in terms of quality…. it’s just the nerdy voice. Should have been Sarah Parnell
They should be replaced as their meant to only be temporary
Agree
It sounds like if the s7 stock breeded with the 2009 stock
Nice! When was this filmed?
Monday 4th of March. The unit will be in service on Monday and Tuesday this month
@@railwaymedialondon Okay, Great! That’s good to know!👍
@@railwaymedialondon when will it be in full operation
What a pity the opportunity was not taken to raise the height of the seats.
Ridiculous half hearted refurbishment. Completely new trains with air conditioning are needed.
No funding, sadly. Refurbishment is cheaper (£500m compared to £1.6bn for new stock). Piccadilly Line is high priority, followed by the Bakerloo, hopefully.
TfL are screwed financially so the best they could do is an internal refurb which turns these awful trains into decent ones which could last for a good while.
I disagree with half hearted. Extending the lifespan is a good thing. There are many trains that can actually be recycled like this one.
new trains are expensive as hell, at least give these refurbed trains a chance
@@B9TL205 At least with new trains nowadays it standardises the fleet, short, medium and long term. Those Central Line trains are non-standard, not built by Alstom (formerly Bombardier) or Siemens. Siemens would most likely build new stock replacement for the Bakerloo, Central & Waterloo & City Lines in the near future, hopefully.
the announcmeents 'central line train to' 'doors open right side' and 'mind the gap' all have better versions already in use on the hainault shuttle. i dont see why they downgraded it.
some things you didnt mention:
- the moquette is apparently inspired by bogies and train wheels
- the destination display on the front is now readable (omg)
- the PRM area and new announcements were actually a requirement, and i dont think the announcements would have changed if otherwise (PRM would probably be there even if it wasnt required)
- they converted to AC because its quieter and more importantly, the new AC motors are more reliable
they should jave changed the open door button to the flashing light thing you find on 95 stock trains
i mean there is not really a point for the difference because the announcements are only ment to be temporary
i do get what you mean tho
@@isaacains1044 i thought they were permanent
@@mudchute4dlr yeah they are looking for a female voice
I hate the Motors and announcements it's sounds so off the current ones are so much better
Will new Central Line cover from Epping to West R.?
Eventually it will. Currently doing Ruislip Gardens to Hainault/Grange Hill.
tfl should have replaced the entire Central Line train properly insted of refurbishing it .
these trians are too old 1992 class if iam not mistaken the technology is from the 1990s
they should get new state of the art trains in line with these times.
to resplce the old run down ones.
make sure they are quiet as well as the old trains where too noisy and loud.
I disagree. They are actually normal age for a train. Only 32 years old. Compared to 73 stock and 72 stock on bakerloo lines. Which are 50 or so.
Recycling a train is a good thing. The motors were replaced with modern equipment. Trains will always be noisy. Theres no escaping that. Track is metal and the wheels rolling on them will make sound. This refirbishment enables much better reliablity for the unit as it will likely break down way less. Not to mention its Infrustructure has been re-welded and fixed.
Being 32 years old these arent that old at all. Just need a refresh. And thats what they got .
Not all 92 stock trains are 32 years old, last production was 1994
@@Matty12333 even then midlife overhaul would have helped them. They didnt really get a midlife overhaul. Esspecially with motors and Infrustructure. Having it now isnt so bad either because now theyll last WAY longer most likely.
They didn't actually replace the motors. They replaced and upgraded the parts for it. At least in one of their recent videos talking about it.
30 or 32 isnt old nesseccerilly. Without basic maintenance or replacement ofnold parts good rewelding and uograde programmes etc trains will always start to fall apart.
Great video. Maybe you could’ve added some clips of the unrefurbished stock for comparison.
So they've got open/close buttons on the doors? I thought they did away with the buttons yrs ago
That’s right those have been out of use for years
I wish someone could give me the diagrams of this train because I've tried twice to get a ride on it and I have been unsuccessful!
my mum is in your video lol
Nice video. Do you know when this unit be entering full passenger service, not just as a shuttle?
No plans for it yet
Imagine when the announcements of Adrian highest was saying *This is Hanger Lane, Change for Piccadilly Line at Park Royal, This is a Central Line train to Ruislip Gardens.* He’s like a fast robot, dude it had me laughing!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 LOL!!!
the central line sounds like the s stock and when its at full speed, it sounds like a high speed diesel train.
When Are they going to get usable non-emrgency gangways
Probably never due to the trains design. Would have to be built with it to have it.
These announcements are not temporary, they are the permanent new announcements replacing Emma Clarke and Sarah Parnell
When the announcement says will open it should say "The doors will open on the Right(or Left)In the direction of travel"
Does it matter? You will know once the train arrives at the station
@@___-000 yes it does. Blinnd people need to know in advance not at the last second
None of those seats is big enough for me. Assuming I even get one. I guess I'll just stagger about and tread on everyone's feet.
Are they not doing anything with the outside? Some of the roundels need to be replaced on the side of the trains
Like the announcements
Another place to be subjected to the "see it, say it, sorted" noise pollution.
At the start, when the train is departing, it sounds like the Victoria line.
oh no there goes my childhood then
That was my first thought with the District line 😆
One thing I noticed is the screens don't show anything unless there is an announcement, hope they change that.
Wait what?!
Am i the only one who kinda likes the announcements?
It sounded like 2009 stock when leaving the station
It sounds like a mixture of the Victoria line and the circle/district/hammersmith&city/metropolitan line.
Great video I really enjoyed watching this one😊👍👍🩷🩷🩷
I thought they kept the Old Central Line Announcer on this New Train
All that time, money and effort and they still couldn't be bothered to remove the non-functional open/close door buttons.
TBH This feels a little out of the ordinary for me, but i and many simply must experience in person
I will say in the last few months, and year, I have been using the Central line frequently, but as much as TFL have addressed ongoing distruption & family who live close by Perivale Station say the service hasn't been good, for me it's been more about the ride comfortability i.e. battery operation related. I will admit, I am not a fan of the new announcement system, yet the reality is the line has needed a refurbishment of stock (at least to some extent), while anotheer line gets entirely new stock!
Great video! you did an amazing job of showcasing the tarin in the video. But i think it's a bit odd that there's bareley anybody on your carriage.
The train 91001 and 91201 will get DC sound motors will be much better than the AC.❤🎉
Still sounds like the old motor when braking?
Yes. Cheap engineering.
neat .. the only fast stock around there had been the aluminum A stock
Why is it orange?
How did u get on the new one and what time you need to be there
How do you know when this was coming
Nice youtube channel
The new one sounds like a NYC subway stay away from the platform edge announcement.
Bombadier style motors thats why.
@@bb-3653 ,I did mean the new announcement.
3 times buzzer cause more delays
The buzzer doesn’t affect loading times
@@railwaymedialondon No, I mean that it delays more to say the station and therefore people delay to hear that and doors delay to close than playing one time
The motors sound nice 🙂
why the tfl does refurbish train instead of buying new trains?
Broski so they can save money. Everything in this world ain’t free! Life can cost something valuable!
because the tory government refuses to give them funding
Trains are only 30 years old usually tube trains go for 40-50 years we have stock from 1972 still running
not enought fund for those new train so refurbs help a lot until get enought fund for replacement
New Trains 1.5 Billion, Refurb 500 Million.
dang
those unrefurbished trains were my childhood
that and the hammeremith and city line trains forgot its name
C stock
Why will the voice be replaced? Because it's a man?
They're temporary and are looking for a female voice artist
So because it's a man then.
Yes
It’s awful anyways. Id rather take a woman who’s voice isn’t so punchy
@@KakashiH318the thameslink uses a male voice at times too
Same thing is gonna happen on the bakerloo line in the future
The refurbished Bakerloo line trains are already being rolled out, even though I believe it is not useful
@@___-000 I meant when they go on service
@@idontknow12383 Some of them are in service. I rode them plenty of times
@@___-000 oh i didnt know that

Why are they orange?
Bright red
They’re a very vibrant red, camera doesn’t pick it up properly
So excited to sit in these new trains
On which of the 12 seats?
@@neuralwarp ummm, never thought abt that, but any of em except the priority seats
They’re the same trains though. Just took some seats away 😂
Still no AC and also its the central line so I'll try and avoid that horrid line and its trains :)
You cant install air con on a train thats got no space for it. Most tube trains are too small. The tunnels make them cramped. Cant put it above the tube. Itll break off on the tunnel. Or it will be inside and people will headbutt or interfere with it. Cant put it underneath as theres not enough space . Other equipment is used underneath. So its almost impossible. This applies to all sublevel tubw trains by the way.
The new tubes will have air con because they have less wheels underneath and can use AC as a result.
sounds like a heavy jet to me..
Gone the charm that was even motor's are awful

What happened to the old announcement?
turned into a distant memory
