Anybody asking where to get your ABS module repaired in December 2020, I had my module reoaired by a company in Van Nuys, Calif., called Module Repair Pro. They did a great job, it works perfectly and no more annoying ABS or BRAKE display messages on your cluster. They charged me $140.00, in February 2020 dollars. Since this video was created, the prices have gone up (obviously).
In closing, I highly recommend the company, Module Repair Pro, for your ABS module work.

Hi guys, Nathan has been helping me out with an ABS issue on our 520i.
This ABS problem has driven us crazy and even with a scanner, we were unable
to positively point out the real hassle. In the end, it turned out to be this module
and we tried to replace it with a donor module and believe it or not, it worked.
So far so good. However for people in the States, your best bet is to do as Nathan
suggests and that is to get your own module serviced locally.
We are in New Zealand and the repair would've cost us a small fortune in overall
shipping, return shipping, insurance and service charges.
Hey, we got lucky, that's all I can say...

Hi, I'm from South Africa. I had to have mine fixed two times in the 4 years I had my 2002 E39 525i. You would think a company like BMW would know not to put that module near the exhaust. I see on the other model BMWs like the E46 for example, they actually make the ABS module part of the brake master cylinder. The last time I had mine fixed was about 4 years ago just before I sold the car and it cost like R4000 or about $260.

Typically in the E65 the ABS Control Module goes bad and has to be sent out to be repaired. It can happen in with the E38/E39 car but not as common. Usually one of the wheel speed sensor wire deteriorate and has to be replaced but it wont throw a CEL code you can pull with a universal code reader. You would get a triangle (traction control) and ABS amber light come on in this case. If the brake light also comes on also then more than likely the ABS module is at fault. I have owned and or repaired E21, E23, E28, E30, E32, E34, E36, E38, E39, and E65 cars.

How, exactly, does one "make sure the ABS module is bad before you replace it?" What are the testing procedures to confirm the module is in need of replacement. One of the wheel speed sensors ("pulse generators" as BMW calls them) can also throw the generic code P0500 and ABS dash warning light. Thanks for all your excellent videos Nathan. Looking forward to your reply.

The first thing to do is get a Bi- directional Scan tool. You need to pull the codes from the specific module in question. In your case- the ABS Module. Then go from there. The codes only give you a starting point- they are not absolute. It could be the following: Bad Precharge Pump- Bad ABS Pump- Bad Wheel Speed Sensors- or Bad ABS Module.

Nathan, hope you can help with even a single word answer. You mention that one cannot swap the ABS module around from car to car due to the VIN specific coding. Is that true of the pump side of it as well? Is there any electronic component to the pump, in other words? If one replaces a defective ABS pump on an e39 with a good used one from another car, while retaining the original ABS module, is there going to be a compatibility issue?

Hey .. just saw your post , I too have problem with my 2000 E39 535i however what happens is the brakes actually apply themselves to the point where the car will no longer move !! thankfully it happens gradually and allows me to get off the road ... its happened a couple times now .. first time it was fine after a half hr .. second after a few days ... in all the posts I've read , it seems no one has experienced the system just randomly deciding to pull the reins ... any thoughts ?

This did not state in any way how to “diagnose if it’s bad” :/ you just stated if* it’s bad. … anyone want to fill this gap?
