      The funny thing about this is one of my local LGBT groups often has snacks like cookies, or chips or something and allies are welcome. So I can see someone just going in their "Hi I'm here for my ally cookie."

    Hey Chase, I was just wondering if you could possibly make a video about dealing with height dysphoria? Because the thing that makes me feel the most dysphoric is that I'm 5'4 and done growing and most of the cis guys in my school are like 5'10 and still growing

    • @j.s.1141
      @j.s.1141 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I second this.

      +karly skiba I have no idea how old you are, but height dysphoria is something I dealt with for a long time (I'm also 5'4). Everyone I went to school with was so tall; I just assumed that's how the rest of the world would be to. But this year I started college, and all I can say is damn. The world is full of short cis guys. I've met PLENTY of guys who are shorter than me. It's helped quiet my dysphoria a lot.
      This may not be incredibly helpful, but all I can say is if you get out into the world, you may start to notice that there are a lot of short cis guys. You just gotta keep your eyes open, and keep exploring.

    • @RatBastard77
      @RatBastard77 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Im 5'0 and wearing boots with just an inch platform can make you feel better. i feel somehow a whole lot taller in them compared to when i wear my flats. but stand straight and act confident and you'll almost actually feel confident. ive seen tons of (i think) cis guys my height, so dont think short cis guys arent real. if it bothers you extremely bad ive kinda heard about Human Growth Hormones, maybe do research on that but i think its hard to convince an endo to give them to you.

    I am an old lady middle school teacher who wants to be the best ALLY I can be for my students and loved ones so that I can provide more resources for support at the school where I work. I always try to ask my questions or make my approach in the spirit of wanting to listen and learn, and then spread my awareness. I have plenty to learn, I am sure, but I care and I want to be there for them {heart}. Thank you for this~

    • @uppercaseCHASE1
      @uppercaseCHASE1  8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      +emma poulsen No no, I meant what I said. I said not everyone transition, not everyone is trans, some people are nonbinary, genderqueer, gender fluid. I'm not implying that non binary people aren't trans, im simply saying that some people don't transition and they can happen to be trans, or non binary (I'm splitting them up on purpose right here because I know so many nb people who do not identity as trans, they identity as nb. I am not saying that I don't see nb people as trans at all, if you identify as nb and trans then thats all you boo boo and i respect that!)

      ThatOneSam Why not go with your biological sex and then EXPRESS your gender in whatever way you wish?? You NEED a foundation. Biological sex can be that foundation. In the 21st century you're FREE to "gender express" in any manner you choose - while simultaneously having the firm foundation of biology for psychological stability. Cheers

    This video was so informative, I'm not trans and I really want to get informed just so I can be the best version of myself with people I meet wether they are trans or not especially where I live (Mexico) people in the lgbt community are so discriminated against so I feel like its almost a duty to be informed. also I'm a med student and I still have a long way to go to become a Doctor but I want to be educated when the time comes that I have to take care of a patient that happens to be trans I can be able to give everyone the respect, the acceptance and the care they deserve. Sorry if I dont make any sense! The point is: your videos are great, thank you!

    My younger brother always uses the derogatory T word in conversation. For awhile I couldn't say anything, because I was afraid to. Our relationship is already really shitty, and I don't want to give him one more reason to hate me. I don't know when it started, but I finally started speaking up. I was out to him as pansexual at the time, so I thought that I would use that as a kind of example or something. I would say that transgender people are people too, and saying that word is very inappropriate and has so much negativity and violence behind it. And one day, I may bring home a partner who is transgender - who might even one day become his brother-in-law or sister-in-law. And I would say to him, "If I were transgender, would you openly use that term so casually?". He didn't ever really have anything to say, but he didn't argue either. I like to think that I maybe got through to him, even a little bit. I just hate that derogatory term so much...

    I think there is a big difference between offensive and ignorant. Ignorance can be hurtful and damaging, but it's different from malice. Often it sounds similar since it's often got a lot of fear and defensiveness attached, but bearing it in mind the difference between intentional offence and accidental offence is important both in terms of flavouring your response and also in terms of how much personal damage you allow it to make.

    Very educational video Chase, specially the part of "calling out", I can now understand trans people are not being rude when they call out an ally. I hope to be a good ally for the trans community, however in the country I live things are really bad for trans people and you could suffer discrimination and verbal violence for defending trans people. I tried once to defend Caitlyn Jenner because a female friend of mine was saying: "the Jenner was born male" and I was so angry and told her she is a woman and has always felt like a woman but my friend would simply not understand and yell at me. Living in a conservative country full of machista culture is terrible, I mean, I'm pansexual and only 10 people know it (all are friends my family doesn't know yet) :(
    P.S. I love your videos :) keep doing your amazing job

      Andie Hernández Jenner WAS born a (biological) male.
      The word biological was IMPLIED when your friend said...."Jenner was born male" Your friend was right and you should have understood that the word biological was IMPLIED. You were more interested in virtue signalling then you were in logic. You're chasing a FALSE VIRTUE that's predicated on the shallow, leftist ideology of our time. Look at the logic. Jenner WAS born the male biological sex. WHY is that idea threatening to you?? WHY do you feel the need to oppose that scientific FACT??

    I LOVE this video. I don't want to wave around my ally-ness but I just want to assure you that dream allies DO exist and I've been changing minds all over the U.S. I don't have a public forum where anyone will listen to me but I work marketing events all over the U.S. and I will correct anyone who says anything inappropriate. I have noticed the most offensive to the trans community that I've come across are gays, and it is very disappointing.
    People don't realize how much talking about this issue truly helps. I was talking to this guy about trans issues because Caitlyn Jenner came up and I really got him seeing it in a different light. He actually recently messaged me on Facebook letting me know he hooked up with a girl who he found out later was trans. He said he immediately thought of me and instead of being angry at her his reaction came more from a place of compassion. That made me so happy.

    When I was an Ally in Training, I had a bad ally experience. There was a Trans guy in my class, and my professor constantly misgendered him. I don't think he ever gendered him properly. I made sure to gender him as he requested, but I was too cowardly to correct my professor until the end of the semester, at which point he did make a point to try to change the pronouns. The guy in my class tried to get the professor to gender him properly, but was very soft spoken and my professor didn't seem to care. I've always felt bad that I didn't get my guts together and call out my professor earlier. I have gotten much better since. I wouldn't do it the same way again. I'd talk to my professor way earlier.

    Oh man I totally agree that we need gender neutral bathrooms. I can't even explain why, it would just make everyone so much more comfortable with each other and would normalize bathroom duties, which seem so damn taboo. It would also help people see and understand things that other genders deal with. I know a man who when he was in his early 20's had no idea that girls use toilet paper after they pee.

    I have also a typ for you, because you need it: don't generalise trans people. 'we are not comfortable talking about sex' 'we are not comfortable telling you our birth name'. I have a trans friend and he is perfectly comfortable with all these issues, from the very start I got to know him. It is of course good to be a little carefull with topics like this in the beginning, but really: don't act like all trans people think the same, because they don't.

      +Krijn van Alten I really don't think he generalized like that. These are *general* tips on how to be an ally to trans people, and obviously some people will feel comfortable with some things and not comfortable with others. But those are general tips on what to do or not do. They apply for many trans people, never all. And Chase never says it applies to all trans people, he even mentions there are exceptions.

    My friend’s mum said the t word one time and I tried to explain to her why it wasn’t okay and she was like ‘I have tons of friends who call themselves *t word*’ and I was sooooooo uncomfortable. I know she doesn’t mean to be like really rude to trans people, she literally order me my binder cause I couldn’t do it with my parents but it made me so uncomfortable to hear it t w i c e

    Also I'm sorry if this comes across as offensive or anything but I just can't get behind gender neutral bathrooms that are multi-stalled. I am COMPLETELY okay with gender neutral restrooms that are one toilet, and am 100% okay with trans women using the women's restroom. My issue with safety has absolutely not one bit to do with trans women or trans people in general. I totally understand and respect what chase is saying but I personally would not feel comfortable or safe with a man who identifies as a man (and I'm speaking more so of straight cis men) being able to follow me in the restroom. I live near not so safe areas & for that reason it terrifies me. Like I said though, I'm not saying I feel unsafe or uncomfortable when trans women use the restroom. Even if it's a trans woman who hasn't transitioned yet or who doesn't "pass", that I'm still okay with. I just mean bad men who would take advantage of that. I dunno if I'm the only one who feels this way or not

      I 100% agree, it might seem a bit paranoid, but women (Both trans and cis) have a right to feel a bit paranoid and have a right to go somewhere where men can not follow, as do men

      It doesn't make much sense. Predators don't need laws that allow them certain things. They know they can't defend their "trans" nsidentity if hadn't been to a therapist or anything similar. If they wanted to follow you, they would do it no matter what..

    One of my friend's friend has a trans family member (not trying to out anyone, won't say any names or even pronouns) and the friend kept saying " and (incorrect pronoun she/he) is trans and my family doesn't like (him/her) because of it, but I love (him/her)" and I had informed the person that if they wanted to support their family member with who they are that they could start by using the proper pronouns for said family member and the friend got so offended that I was trying to help them help their family member. I was so surprised buy it but I do live in a very anti-LGBT area, which makes me quite sad as an LGBT person and supporter myself.

    What do you do if a little kid outs you in a public place? Does that happen to people often? I saw it happen at a fair once and it almost got nasty. I was in the middle of a huge crowd and a trans woman, I guess, was walking behind me. I thought I saw her earlier, doing some kind of performance, so I wasn't sure if she was actually just a female impersonator. A little toddler asked her directly if she's a boy or a girl. She was obviously pissed off and said something to her friend, to the affect of " I could say something, but I better not, or some shit's 'gonna go down," or something like that.

      Samiya Lioness I'm trans myself and I honestly do not get it. I know it's some type of reclaiming it and empowering yourself with it. But it's still very offensive to me and I never want to hear it.

    +uppercaseCHASE1 people may ask what the "real" name is just out of curiosity. This wording is totally wrong and the word "real" comes with other implications that are just off, but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I know that I like to ask people what their full names are all the time, or even what their grandmother's name is or what their maiden name is, etc. and all of this is only out of curiosity. I just really like hearing new names and learning about names and the history behind names. That's just me, though. I'm sure plenty of people who ask trans people "what's your real name" are not asking just because they like to learn about names. I'm not justifying what they're doing, and I agree that the question is disrespectful and undermines the purpose of having your name changed in the first place. It's unfortunate that not enough people realize that their questions can be undermining or belittling, or are loaded with other implications, but being part of a minority group pretty much ensures that we'll be asked questions in general all the time. Those of us in the minority group should take that opportunity to educate. It can get exhausting and frustrating, though, to have to repeat yourself, I totally get that. So, I agree with your overall advice about questions, just think before you ask them.
