  • Versailles in Manhattan…Originally built in 1872 by John G. Prague, this 5-level Neo-Georgian townhouse is constructed in raked limestone and timeless red clay brick. The palatial 20 ft. wide townhouse welcomes visitors through a secure electronic gated front entry. Once behind the front door, a grandly scaled foyer welcomes visitors into the interior of the home. The sprawling parlor floor begins in the mirrored gallery as you enter this lavish level. The expansive 90 ft. deep parlor floor encompasses an English pine paneled library and beautifully proportioned living room which flows into a two-storied glass atrium. The formal dining room elegantly finishes this grand entertaining and living space. The house boasts museum quality materials and details. East 64th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues is lined with townhouses bordered by trees and historic bishop’s crook lampposts. Though not designated by Landmarks Preservation, the block is graced with period homes boasting bay windows, decorative pediments and Juliet balconies.

In truth, the people who did the work on the redesign, the people who sold the materials for the redesign and the people who will maintain the property when it's sold, all have food, housing and health care because of it.

Dale Mack In truth, probably all of those people are out of work today. They’ll loose their health care if they haven’t already. They may loose their houses. They may rely on a food bank for meals. But the owner of the home won’t loose a thing.

Helenaville Snow often turns to ice right after it falls, at least it does here in the Northeast. So you would have a radiant heated sidewalk to eliminate excess ice/snow, or moisture and avoid having to walk or possibly slip and fall on ice. It’s a safety convenience. What if you have someone who is older or a handicapped guest who has trouble walking coming to visit your home on a snowy/icy day?

I can't believe all the haters on here! This is a beautiful example of preserving the homes 19th century heritage. It would be the height of tackiness to go in to a home from this time period and and rip everything out so you can replace it with glass and metal everything; furnishing it with sleek, modern, minimalist, contemporary art and furnishings. I prefer traditional interiors myself but I have an appreciation for all styles of interior design when they are appropriate for the home. For people to be so small minded that they can't appreciate any other style other than contemporary is really foolish. America should value it's history more like Europe does. In America everything is just torn down and replaced rather than preserved and celebrated. Very sad!

Growing up in Shaker Heights as I have, I find your design lovely! Many choose not to inundate themselves with bright light having spent many hours of the day out in the outside world. Classical music, dim lights with a nice glass of brandy by the stone/Mahogany fireplace is a good end to a long day. Most have never even seen let alone been in a home with a solarium (like most contemporary style loving tree huggers) Wallpaper? That's an expression of those who live there, like paintings on the wall, damned the ones who don't understand it! Just go back to your cold white living spaces designed by Ikea.

This comment reads like a poorly written piece of AI, thesaurus, mumbo jumbo feigning high intellect. The townhouse features many ornate details showcasing European influences. That plus the dated use of classical music in the background makes this much more emblematic of the stuffiness one associates with Old Money WASPS of the UES than the understated minimalism associated with Modernist, Scandinavian, or Japanese designs.

As an interior designer myself I have to say this home is done with great efficacy for reflecting a conservative style. Nothing is hugely outside the realm of the Neo-Georgian aesthetic besides the entry foyer. I didn’t watch it from start to finish, I skipped here and there, but it’s well done for preserving the *essence of the 1870’s.
You may not like this style but that’s personal taste. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that it isn’t well done or lovely. All of you minimalist loving trash should go elsewhere if you don’t like the historic aesthetic. It’s that simple. You’re all bland af anyway wanting the same beige, open floor plan, steel and glass crap.

This is a true definition of "Town House", not the cookie cutter homes we see today. There are many true "townhouses" in NYC, even uptown in the brownstones in Harlem, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. Of course, they are not all at this level, but they are townhouses just the same.

Love a fine traditional home. So tired of the boring white modern box. Thank you for sharing.

People! Its supposed to look "old" . Its an older style from a period of elegance and grace. Pottery Barn - ugh.

I'll take pottery barn thank you. I understand it's staying true to a certain period, but I just can't see a person from this time living there comfortably.

The problem is that it doesn't... it looks like someone without knowledge and taste tried to make it look old. The foyer murals look like from the 80s - the 1980s, not the 1880s.

Everyone has each own taste. I think each rooms are beautiful but the house don't have cohesiveness. It is also too busy. I think for him, it works but for most people it doesn't.

How obvious by some of the comments below that so many people viewing this magnificent home video have the taste of pigs and would be much happier and much more suited to live in a cheaply built tract house in Topeka.

The place itself is amazing and decorated with so much care for detail, I'm sure to the owne's taste, but...yes, there is a but... if I were to live there I would change the bar's and music room color and Fragonards, so common you find them printed even in 99¢ decorations, take away some of the stuffy wall sconces, window treatments, and bedroom duvet covers and replace them with something more inviting such as Pratesi. Loved the library, kitchen and some of the wall coverings that would go well with other prints in materials besides those ultra classic ones, Basically I would refresh it a little without taking away from the superb quality the place already has. Ahh, excellent idea to have radiant heating in the sidewalk.

One little bookshelf. I would add several more. Of course that would make the room much more "dark" and cause several people commenting on here to turn up their noses in disgust.
