I gotta tell ya, Tom truly hits the bullseye of my funny bone, while also teaching me some stuff about the city I was born in. Somehow, his snarky, intelligent, compelling, sarcastic, weird- yet clearly genuine- way, fits me like a dirty water dog in a cold hard hot dog bun. Blech! Tom, you’re awesome. Long may you not get hit by history hating biker bros. Thanks for doing this, and goddamnit why hasn’t a network, streaming service, or even the Travel Channel, picked your TH-cam show for their broadcast? You rock! I’m a fan.

Had to take a short break after seeing the fountain. Anyway, I was in Gracie Mansion at one of Mayor Giuliani's parties where he hosted people from the UN on the 4th of July. The event took place mostly outside on the grass but I got to spend a few moments inside the mansion. A large central room flanked by many, many doors to different side rooms. The mayor had something going on because he was darting feverishly across from one room to another. He was obviously working and he could not interact much with party guests. The place is all very old wood in constant need of refinishing. Keeping that place up has to be a career position.

I highly recommend the book "Meet You in Hell: Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and the Bitter Partnership That Changed America" by Les Standiford. One of the themes I wasn't expecting was the lengths Carnegie and Frick went to in order to prevent the workers who did the most dangerous work from getting increase in wages. The book is chock full of interesting stories. That said, maybe I'm a hypocrite, but I'm still grateful for all their contributions to the arts.

And, The Jeffersons (We're movin' on up. . .!) 185 E. 85th and The Odd Couple (early years theme iteration) 1055 Park Ave. As a kid growing up on 84th Street, we used to get a kick out of living in a neighborhood that was so often featured on TV and in the movies.

Tom I enjoy listening to the narration of your history telling, you do keep it real, you never leave nothing out, especially when you talk about native people and slaves, you know today's culture out there don't want to talk about the truth because some how it offends them and stuff! But people like you need to keep talking about it so it could be heard and let the truth be truth. Anyway I'd like to see more videos of history like from the 70s and 80s, I see some films on TH-cam from that Era and new York looked like a war zone and just crazy. Well OK .

Great video, Tom. I used to be around the upper East Side to travel to my H.S. from 2014 - 2018. I remembered when the M86 bus became a select bus (2015 or 2016) and the Q train arrived in 2017. It was worth the changes (investment)😎💯

It's whats helped me endure the pandemic, and also given me a genuine appreciation of the city i was born and raised in. Tom you're awesome! Maybe I can somehow convince you to tour my high school class into doing a field day around one of these monumental areas in this beautiful island of Manhattan.. Keep up the great work that you do.

I love what you do.. but, if you actually lived through the 70's or 80s on the upper east side south of Lexington.. death was at your door step; especially in the 86-96th streets. I feel this topic was understated greatly; maybe it's a "you had to be there thing" it's what movies are made of. It's possible the internet doesn't have that info.. a library archive might expand this topic greatly
I think you missed out on the ferry disaster in the east river where many immigrants died right there where the promenade is today. I'm not saying this to be critical but to help your amazing channel.
