I remember watching "Prince of Egypt" as a kid, and automatically thinking it was a "kids movie" just because it was animated. Watching it years later, that movie is a straight up heavy drama, and the only "kid" things about it are that it's animated and has a few songs (which aren't even all that "childish") , but it's an incredibly mature film and fantastically crafted.
Congrats on finally crossing the 2m milestone! Watched Wild Robot last weekend and LOVED it. At one point I was actually physically shaking trying to hold back the ugly crying that was about to ensue. Instant classic.
I feel like Incredibles perfectly fits the description of ‘can be enjoyed by adults more than kids’; all the dialogue and themes make it feel like a movie made for adults; when I watched it as a kid, I just thought it was a really fun superhero movie but years later, I can relate to Mr. Incredible wanting to return to the glory days as opposed to the monotony of his current life
I totally forgot about this movie. To me, it feels like it barely got advertised and I keep reminding myself "Oh right! This movie is coming to theaters soon." Glad to hear it's a fine film.

Then, the trailer ended with a huge celebrity cast list and I was severely disappointed. BUT this review has definitely made me want to watch this movie. First Awesometacular of the year? Haven’t seen a movie where my 3 year old, 8 year old, wife, and I all came out thrilled with the movie in a long time. DreamWorks Animation is such a strange company. In one year alone, they gave us that atrocious Megamind movie and a surprisingly fantastic movie like The Wild Robot, what a time to be alive
They also could be hit and miss. They released Puss In Boots 2 out of nowhere at December 2022 and people are still talking about that movie until these days and then in 2023, they released that Kraken movie which is flopped and forgettable due to lack of marketing. Don't forget earlier this year they released Kung Fu Panda 4 which is a total hit in Box Office.
Just to let you know that DreamWorks and DreamWorks TV are two completely different studios sharing one brand. If the actual DreamWorks is working on Megamind Rules then it would've been the best shit coming from this year
Managed to see this film two weeks earlier than the US release (Thanks Australia) and I was worried this would be one of those films that flies past Jeremy’s radar and he would miss out on such a wonderful film, glad to see that notification pop up and to see he loves it as well
Babe. The movie with the little pig. If only because you appreciate how DARK that movie is willing to get, and how it always feels sincere in its efforts. I miss that in movies.
Jeremy never fails me to make feel interested in a movie I’ve never heard of before. Same goes for Dark City, his interview introduced me to it, I watched it afterwards and I really liked it!
That gosling is adorable! I mean I cried in the theater at the end of Toy Story 3 (with my kids asking, "Mom, are you okay?" Hubby did too but hid it better.) so not sure I can make it through this one. I got choked up just watching the scenes while you gave the review. lol As for a movie that was made for kids & adults that I liked even more watching it as an adult with my kids... E.T. and The Sound of Music. (I was going to say Jaws but then realized just because all my friends & I were allowed to watch it when we were kids (it was the 1970s) , doesn't mean it was made for kids. lol)
Excellent review as always, Jeremy, but also wanted to say this: If you’re a parent, please cry (if you feel inclined to) if this movie or really anything emotionally touches you; it will let your kids know that reacting authentically is okay
I was already a mess during the movie and then my son, who just turned 4, tugged on my arm and said “I love you daddy” Oh boy I was crying in the club (theater)
Best way to hide crying at a movie…right before you know the tears are coming take a sip of your drink and then act like it went down the wrong pipe so when the tears come you have an excuse.
My eyebrows went up so high when you pulled out that Awsometacular. I haven’t heard one of those in so long and frankly for such an underdog was shocking. I know nothing about this movie. Just that we’ve been in a desert.
So glad that we can see something not just recycled and a dollar store version of other things that were recycled also. Glad there is still something good out there. That said, JEREMY, I honestly am a bit baffled that we haven't gotten a video about the soul reaver remasters from you yet!!!

The Secret of NIMH is a movie I loved as a kid and found myself still loving as an adult, perhaps even more so since I understand more of what's going on in it now. This film was also terrific and I could see it resonating with today's kids the same way as they themselves get older.

Oh it's a book? I had no idea actually, i can't believe I found that out cause of this comment haha, brb googling, thanks!
I'm surprised Jeremy never reviewed Puss in Boots 2. Anyone know why?
@@graffiti.777 Idk, he missses some films sometimes, i guess it depends on his life outside of youtube, feels like he is reviewing more stuff recently, he hasn't reviewed TV shows in the past as much as he did in the last year or so. I know every once in a while he reviews "on demand" movies too, but he rarely does that, so i guess it's just if he's seen the movie. Maybe he saw the movie later thna others and felt he won't add anything others havent' said (i know he referenced "i am too late on this one" in some reviews and he'd be like 5 days late, so maybe cause life stuff he saw it like a week-two after everyone
@@1234dragonsky yeah that's fair. Maybe he was busy with family since it was the Christmas season. But, another show he hasn't reviewed is The Boys season 4 which I thought was also surprising since he reviewed the first three seasons.
@@graffiti.777 Honestly I had no idea he reviewed the first 3 seasons of The Boys, I haven't watched the show and I bet that's why I missed his reviews
Incredible wanting to return to the glory days as opposed to the monotony of his current life
Despicable Me is made for adults. They just added the Minions for the kiddos.
I totally forgot about this movie. To me, it feels like it barely got advertised and I keep reminding myself "Oh right! This movie is coming to theaters soon." Glad to hear it's a fine film.
Here in LA, you can’t go anywhere without seeing a billboard for it.
@@iocomposer Ah. Well I live in East Coast and I do see some adverts of the film. Funny thing is that I haven't see a billboard advertising it.
It ain't just a fine film it's a masterpiece!
I didn't hear I didn't even know the movie existed until last week
@@JojoMoe-io1ev It didn't feel like a masterpiece to me. Maybe it just didn't connect with me in any deep meaningful way. I just found it "nice" and not really ambitious. It went for a couple of clichés and every other thing was just skilled craftmanship at work, but nothing that really piqued my interest towards any particular message or emotion.
Yeah, I didn't find it preachy (thank god), except in some sequence, but many of its supposedly strong points fell flat to me and just felt more-of-the-samey.
Which parts (or features in general) got you most interested in and made you so attached to it?
September sure is giving us two great robot animated films back to back.
Hell yeah. Both are easily two of my favorite films this year.

the plot is kinda cliche and the writing isnt consisstent its a 7-7.5 movie but icl the mc(robot) is the best animated movie characther ive seen
I think it’ll be a classic, which is so refreshing because animated movies feel like they’ve struggled for the past five years or so.
@@carsonmalleet4367there have been some absolute bangers in the last 5 years though. The spider-verse movies literally changed 3D animation. Puss in boots: the last wish, Toy story 4, Wolfwalkers, Soul, Raya and the last dragon, The boy and the heron, Inside out 2, Suzume have all been extremely good
@@mr.josephpro69 it's very well animated but it's also very generic with its messages. The premise's cool
When I saw the trailer for this, it didn't have any dialogue and I thought it was gonna be this interesting silent movie about a robot and nature. Then, the trailer ended with a huge celebrity cast list and I was severely disappointed. BUT this review has definitely made me want to watch this movie. First Awesometacular of the year? That's some good praise!
Yeah, imo that second trailer sucked. It showed way too much. I was super hyped for it after watching the first trailer, then pretty disappointed by the second trailer. I'm really hyped again after I have seen this review, tho.
I am there with you on that. I was hoping for no dialogue or at least very little. The voice lines turned me off too, but if Jeremy says it's good, then I trust that.
Watched it. It was good, and the animals having voices was definitely the right choice.

Oh, dont worry, everything works out to perfection. The pace is so good, too!
Haven’t seen a movie where my 3 year old, 8 year old, wife, and I all came out thrilled with the movie in a long time. All of us reacted to different elements, and I thought dreamworld threaded the needle perfectly here. Lupita was fantastic, Pedro was great, and Kit Conner brought so much emotion to Brightbill. Loved it!
After Puss in Boots, I am glad kids' films are handling serious matters well.
At least for DreamWorks. Don't expect it from Disney or Illumination
@@tylere.8436 didn't disney make inside out which is literally about dealing with depression? Or Soul, the one about the music teacher that dies on his way to work.
Better than a lot of “grown-up” movies.
They have been before puss in boots 2...
@@tylere.8436 I mean, Disney can too. They've tackled such a serious topic in Inside Out and I know they can do it again like they did back then. They're just scared that kids might not understand it when watching the film and will find the serious moments boring which is such a shame because we know that the audience reaction's are not Disney's goal when making a film but making money is, lol.
My embarrassing example: Marry Poppins. Loved it as a kid and now as a parent/adult I see so many layers. That song “A Man Has Dreams,” as a man and a father, breaks me every time. I know it’s a fun musical about some kids and a quirky nanny but the story/movie focuses around the transformation of George Banks. Marry Poppins is a true master class of a movie that means different things to different people based on their stage of life.😊
I know that a lot of people are expecting Inside Out 2 to win Best Animated Feature next year but it would be nice for once that DreamWorks Animation movie won Best Animated Feature thanks to The Wild Robot. It's been far too long since the last time DreamWorks won an Oscar, not even a single How To Train Your Dragon movie won one 🤷
How to train your dragon so deserved an oscar, that film was my childhood

Damn an awesometacular family movie? Not on my bingo card for the month
3:21 Watch the movie in 3D, then you can cry behind your glasses. Avengers Endgame taught me that.
"Iron Giant" is mine. I loved the boy and his robot movie as a kif. Then, as an adult, I realized it's about coming of age, hysteria, life/death, existentialism, gun violence, child rearing, the effects of positive role models. And now it's a masterpiece to me.
Iron Giant shaped my entire childhood man. Such a fucking gem. I never get tired of rewatching
@williamtorres6211 100%! It's perfect! I'm dreading a live action remake coming, lol

The gorgeous animation, timeless themes and laughs throughout made this a great choice to watch on the big screen.
Chris Sanders is a supremely talented story teller. I will watch anything he puts out no questions asked.

Been coming here for 14 years to get my movie recommendations.. Never been disappointed.
DreamWorks has been unpredictable for a while now.
Just to let you know that DreamWorks and DreamWorks TV are two completely different studios sharing one brand. If the actual DreamWorks is working on Megamind Rules then it would've been the best shit coming from this year
Megamind is fantastic...

I got choked up just watching the scenes while you gave the review. lol
As for a movie that was made for kids & adults that I liked even more watching it as an adult with my kids... E.T. and The Sound of Music. (I was going to say Jaws but then realized just because all my friends & I were allowed to watch it when we were kids (it was the 1970s) , doesn't mean it was made for kids. lol)
Jaws is my favorite movie all of time. Saw it for the first time at like 7 years old. Great movie. I lost count how many times I've seen Jaws.
Watched it last Friday and it was such a riveting masterpiece....you might need to carry tissue as well because it is an emotional rollercoaster
Excellent review as always, Jeremy, but also wanted to say this:
If you’re a parent, please cry (if you feel inclined to) if this movie or really anything emotionally touches you; it will let your kids know that reacting authentically is okay
A robot surviving the wild is Awesometacular... Guess Skynet just needed a better PR team. 😊 Love you Jeremy!!
I was already a mess during the movie and then my son, who just turned 4, tugged on my arm and said “I love you daddy”
Oh boy I was crying in the club (theater)
Best way to hide crying at a movie…right before you know the tears are coming take a sip of your drink and then act like it went down the wrong pipe so when the tears come you have an excuse.
Just don't be ashamed to be a human being with feelings, and *definitely* fuck those who would sneer at sincerity.
Toy Story 3 nearly killed me. My 14 year old kid was actually alarmed by how hard I was crying. Now that he's an adult, I'm afraid to watch it again.
We've all been there, brah. We've all been there. 🥲
I cannot watch Dumbo. I know that they’ll have to take me away. I am starting to tear up when I just think about it.

Wow. That's a really unusual in modern cinema. Normally the message is "you are perfect the way you are. The world needs to accommodate you."
It's not that unusual on the whole. They are still teaching kids that they don't have to obey and accept their real parents. That it's okay if a kid wants to choose "new parents"... of course, that's the government. That's the point.
@@brando3342 OMG I hate this message! Like I love the found family trope as much as the next person but I'm getting kind of sick of how it usually comes with villainizing blood family and that it's okay to just renounce your parents if they don't agree with your views because they're "wrong" and you're "right". Nothing against foster parenting but it would be nice to see a film about kids having to realize their blood parents aren't always the bad guys and that others who seem like they have their best interests in heart just want to sway them into their own way of thinking...
Actually the propaganda I'm seeing is less "You're perfect the way you are" and more "if you don't feel like your true self it's because you're not who you think you are, and there are people around you who won't accept you, but they're just bigoted and evil so ignore them and be your "true self" by literally changing your body chemistry and chopping off your body parts!!"
This is actually a trilogy of books.
My wife picked the first one at random because we love robots and needed new books to read to our kids.
It quickly became our family’s favorite book and the book had us tearing up. The trailers looked great and aside from some mild artistic license with the source material it looks faithful. Excited to hear how much you enjoyed it, and can’t wait to watch it this weekend.
If a Disney property wins Best Animated Feature over The Wild Robot, we riot.
3:18 as soon as we got through half of the movie my mom was saying how it’s a movie for parents and not kids and I can see that
You are a great reviewer. Thank you for your input and service.
My wife said in regards to ROZ that the literal idea of pulling pieces of yourself off to protect your child really hits home. So good!
Not the figurative idea?
The Iron Giant for me for sure. As a kid, I cried. As an adult, it broke me.
I think Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish will be that for someone eventually too. You should review it if you haven’t!
Loved the Vin Diesel burn at the end. Very unexpected, well played sir.
I thought we were gonna go through the entire year without an Awesometacular. A movie I appreciated more as an adult was Inside Out.
The Secret of NIMH is a movie I loved as a kid and found myself still loving as an adult, perhaps even more so since I understand more of what's going on in it now. This film was also terrific and I could see it resonating with today's kids the same way as they themselves get older.
Congrats on the 2 million subscriber milestone! You should make a video in celebration.
I haven't been to the theater in a hot minute, due to time and expense, but I'm so ready for this movie. I read the first book and instantly fell in love with the story. As I've watched the trailers roll in, it felt like Dreamworks did a solid job with it. Thank you for your review!

Lupita Nyongo is awesome
For real, she was also great in that Quiet Place prequel, which is one of those movies that's CARRIED by the cast being understandable without talking. A lesser actor and the film would be unwatchable.
She's one of those actors who's quietly just been kicking ass every time.
Excellent movie. Wiped the tears from my eyes at least a couple times. Did not know what to expect from an animated movie about a robot raising a gosling but I was blown away by this film.
Looking for a movie to show the nieces and nephews that would be clean and entertaining and I saw the excellent ratings by critics and audience alike. I was thinking that the trailer did nothing for me but with the reviews there must be something there. What a hidden gem this movie turned out to be!
