For anyone wondering - the knockdown and damage taken on Mr. Sandman are both intentional. By getting knocked down at 1:59 or later, Mr. Sandman will do his "Dreamland Express" pattern upon you getting up, which lets you hit him for massive damage. The fight is ~10 in-game seconds faster than it would be otherwise.
Summoning Salt man its been forever since I played this game. must have been 94. on your sandman combos, why do you dodge before the final headshot? i was terrible at this game. I cant remember if I ever even beat sandman.
I believe it's to make sure he has proper frame timing--the game rewards perfectly timed punches with a little extra damage, so knowing that a dodge has just the right amount of lag helps him hit that punch at the right time to get that little bit of extra damage to take him down sooner.

It was February 1988, I was in 8th grade, and I didn't have a Nintendo but my friend down the street did. We spent hours playing this game. I finally beat Tyson, (also in the first round) and we got on the phone to tell all of our friends. By the time school started the next day, the whole middle school had heard about it. "Hey, there goes Todd, he beat Tyson last night!" I felt as proud as Kevin Arnold when he kissed Winnie Cooper for the first time! Lol! Funny how at 49, I can still remember that like it was yesterday, but I can't actually remember what I did yesterday.

I remember having the hardest time beating Mr. Sandman and when I finally did and getting lucky enough to beat Super Macho Man and finally getting to Tyson without using the code. His timing caught threw me off that he ended me in under a minute by his uppercut. This was the hardest and funnest game I remember playing as a kid. This game and Double Dragon I absolutely loved!
That first minute and thirty seconds against Tyson had to be THE most nerve racking I can recall from any game. I would get too jumpy, dodge and then get knocked the F out.
I can remember moving my body with the controller to dodge punches. The rush it would give me and the way my entire body tensed, and then the utter joy where I'd go running around the house celebrating.
How about the stress level you felt trying to get up before the count of 10 every time Tyson knocked you down with one hit? You had tried desperately to not get hit but one quick punch suddenly you were furiously tapping those buttons trying to stand back up again. Sometimes so frantically that you weren't tapping them correctly so it took longer to get up which made you freak out even more so you had to concentrate hard on hitting them as fast as you could to beat the count of 10. What a rush, what a thrill. The first time you figured out the trick to beat King Hippo because you thought he was impossible. He seemed to block everything and when you did hit him in the jaw he would just block the next shot, because you didn't know you had to then go to the gut. Then he became hilariously easy. Heck even the first time you saw that fat guy and his pants falling down and making fun of the character because he's too fat he can't stand up again..... Bald bull charge timing. Waiting for the second bull charge. The feeling when you nail that precise timing but the stress level when the character stood up again and you had to keep doing it and get your timing right again otherwise you were doomed.... Eventually this became easy. Eventually we became faster and better at the patterns. God it was a hell of a lot of fun practicing and perfecting those skills though wasn't it?

One of my all-time favorites, spent many an hour playing this. I’ve beat it many times. Something unusual I discovered when fighting Tyson is when he does his “blink punches”, if you time it right you can block then punch several times between each of his, and his life will drain waaaay faster than normal. I could never figure out why he took so much more damage during the blink punches. Man, I miss being a kid.
Thanks for the video. Took me back a long time ago when my brother and I would take turns playing. Lost him thirteen years ago and still miss him like crazy.

This game was the best for a 10 year old in 1987. It took a minute to figure out Bald Bull and Tyson. Zelda, Super Mario Bros, Castlevania, Excitebike & Punch Out were some of my favorites of the early Nintendo games.

This brings back memories. I grew up in the 80's and early 90's and there was no better time in life to be a kid. Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Mario 1, 2, & 3, Excite Bike, Techmo Bowl 1, & 2, CastleVania, Double Dragon 1, 2, & 3, Ninja Turtles etc etc were all my favorites! I could care less about a PlayStation or an Xbox, there's nothing that will ever compare to the old school 8 bit Nintendo system!!
DAMN BRO I REMEMBER ALL THOSE GAMES YOU MENTION.... CASTLE VANIA HOLY SHIT ... THOSE WHERE SOME GOOD TIMES AND GOOD GAMES.... I ALSO USE TO PLAY "CONTRA" 💪💪👌👌
I remember seeing this game for the first time in the 80's when I was like in 2nd grade, I think. It was so awesome, and intimidating at the same time. Those boxers were giants!
yep, the whole 'David vs Goliath' gameplay really made it fun. For me its not so much this game i love, its the era that it came out in. times were better then. we did just fine without the internet and wifi😏
Yup, we were borrowing an NES back in 1987 (got my own a year later) and my dad brought this game home one day and I was instantly hooked. I watched them try and beat the game but the furthest they ever got was the 2nd Bald Bull fight. One night in mid 1988 I picked it up and had the game beat a week later. Then we got Super Pitfall, fuck that game....
Man, this was so damn nostalgic. I was back in my parents living room playing this game after dinner before the news came on. Thanks for the throwback. Back to reality ha ha ha
That was always a big deal when you had the friend who had the separate TV in the basement for the Nintendo. As long as you didn't get too rowdy down there and fight over whose turn it was or something the parents would just leave ya alone for hours to play. Hours of uninterrupted play was necessary for these games but often hard to come by. School, bedtime, sister wanting to watch figure skating when you were about to beat Metroid, that shit was real.
It was crazy as some kid from my school gave us the code to get expedited fight with Tyson. Man we wish he didn't as Tyson would whoop are asses and we would be discouraged especially with his punch knockdowns we wouldn't want to use code to fight him lol.
Unreal!!! Was born in 71’ played this for years from 15 &up. Dad & I used to both break many controllers, LOL. Never could get Mac to move that fast, and the ref always kept counting on Mac, but stopped counting the second your opponent moved (MARIO!!). Started playing this again yesterday (on coronavirus restrictions), got to SodaPopinski, and shit got real, REAL fast.
What a cult classic, one of the best NES games ever! As a kid growing up in the 80s being able to get to Tyson & finally beating him (after many attempts) was just so much fun. Great memories that still bring a smile even to this day :)
@eyeo99 actually, it started off with Mike Tyson as the cover boxer but, due to his legal troubles, he was removed from the later releases of the game, and replaced him with Mr. Dream.
Anyone remember! Going Friday night to the video store and taking your time browsing thru games and renting your favorite title ! Was hook playing all night
This game was EVERYTHING when I was younger! I messed up alot of controllers getting pissed off at this game. Whoever made this video made it look easy but, TRUST ME this game was hard as Sh!t! You felt like you actually fought Tyson after it was over. So much emotions & nerves!
This just popped up on on a algorithm. I was instantly surprised and took off to my room so the others in the house would think I'm insane. This was Very entertaining and boy did it bring back some awesome memories. I'm 56 yrs old and appreciate this !👍😉
Lord have mercy. This instantly makes some of the best childhood memories rush back and makes you feel good. I was not an ace gamer like some of ya'll, but I did beat Tyson...once maybe twice, and it took me forever. Like some of ya'll I got on the phone telling everyone who would listen, which was about 3 people. I know I am on an island alone, but the games from my childhood were and still are the best video games ever produced. I can care less about the graphics and modernities of today's stuff.
definitely some cheat codes... especially noticeable on the Tyson fight... I've played that dodge and 2 uppercut strategy probably a hundred times! and Tyson is still at 75% power after one minute
Jimmie Green you have to pause about a nanosecond between punches and it destroys his power. You can see this dude does it if you look for it. I remember when I found out about it as a kid too and then it took all the fun out of it
Lol me too. That number is burned into my brain along with the ol Konami code. I was 8 years old when this came out and had that damn Tyson code memorized but was in my late teens before I could memorize my damn social security number lol. GO BRONCOS!! SB50 CHAMPS!!
The only one I can't forget is 005-737-5423 to get past Bald Bull. Took me so damn long to beat him I wasn't about to forget that one. I beat him by knocking him down twice before his charge, taking the charge hit (didn't know you could gut punch him), then knocking him down again afterward before the round ended. My step dad and I were so excited that one of us finally beat him that we were jumping up and down hugging eachother.
Holy hell bald bull too, dam the person playing has my respect. I'm still in shock. Who ever you are I bow my head down to you. And certainly the absolute best
Wow the memories of having to sit and watch my older brother and his friends play this for hours and only being able to get a turn once they went outside. My biggest challenge was always fighting Mr Sandman. I absolutely hated fighting him. But the pure joy of finally beating him and then beating Tyson was a big bragging point to your friends. The music on the game is beyond nostalgic. The 80s were just the best time in my opinion to be a kid.

This was such a great time, brings back so many memories of my childhood. I loved Nintendo, but the difference between now and then was even if you had a video game you went outside and played too.
This brings back so many good memories of hanging out with my friends and just playing Nintendo all weekend long and taking turns playing Tyson’s Punch Out seeing who could get the furthest and then getting our asses kicked by Tyson. I’m 41 years old now and still have never beat Tyson. I miss the old days. I was lucky to be able to grow up during the greatest times the 80’s and 90’s. Wish I could go back and do it all again such a great time for kids back then…
funny I was able to beat tyson but for some weird reason I never beat super macho man, I never understood that one. Last time I played a few years ago I couldn't pass sandman...I was disappointed that the 8 years old me was better at this thing than the 30 years old me :P
it's never too late man. I could always beat Tyson as a kid then had decades off then retried years ago. damn took me two days to beat him again. lost my timing but still got it done.

Those 1.9k dislikes are all the people who lost to glass joe lol
Even me, a person who literally just started playing punch out for the first time beat glass joe without losing
Who couldn't afford Nintendo 😂
@@pisathongsonlone3935 not every one can
@@thepizzatime3502 not grandma..
That's for damn sure🥊
This brings back memories. I grew up in the 80's and early 90's and there was no better time in life to be a kid. Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Mario 1, 2, & 3, Excite Bike, Techmo Bowl 1, & 2, CastleVania, Double Dragon 1, 2, & 3, Ninja Turtles etc etc were all my favorites! I could care less about a PlayStation or an Xbox, there's nothing that will ever compare to the old school 8 bit Nintendo system!!
Excitebike ! I played that to death, overheating bikes, creating crazy racetracks, good fun
P.O.W, contra and castlevania was my shit
DAMN BRO I REMEMBER ALL THOSE GAMES YOU MENTION.... CASTLE VANIA HOLY SHIT ... THOSE WHERE SOME GOOD TIMES AND GOOD GAMES.... I ALSO USE TO PLAY "CONTRA" 💪💪👌👌
Contra
Can’t forget battle toads
That was so epic. Thank you for posting and congratulations 😊
Wow, that really took me back. I loved this game so much. Along with Tecmo Bowl and Excite Bike.
“Help me, Doc!”
“Join the Nintendo Fun Club, Mac!”
Always made me laugh
Doc wasn't shit for that! 😂
I was going to say something....but that what you said represented me so well...so you will be my politian in this matter....lol
n
Billo1281 I agree
I first played this game at a sleepover after a baseball game when I was eight years old in 1992. This brings back so many good memories.
This is awesome! 🤗
Thanks for sharing.
My childhood.
As as a 42 year old this is incredible to watch. This game was my world as a kid.
Never mind that all your opponents are 2-3 times your size
I guess this was before weight classes 😂😂😂
Little Mac is 5 ft 5
In Wii he is 5" 7'. In NES he is 4" 8'.
George Nelson didn’t know thanks
Yeah size doesn't matter
I had a lot of fun playing this game!
Even though I'm only 14, My dad LOVED this game. He would show me all the mechanics and it was amazing! :)
When he got to Tyson my palms starting sweating just like back in 88'.
lol
I've never beat Tyson.
Haha. I remember that feeling too
Were your knees weak, and arms heavy?
@@brassbear3373
Was there vomit on his sweater too?
Out of respect I stand and watch the whole thing LOL
What’s the “LOL” for? I didn’t see what was supposed to be funny.
😂 because you got me to lol. Made me instantly think about playing this in the kitchen: standing up!
I remember the first time I beat Tyson, I was over the moon excited!
It was crazy as some kid from my school gave us the code to get expedited fight with Tyson. Man we wish he didn't as Tyson would whoop are asses and we would be discouraged especially with his punch knockdowns we wouldn't want to use code to fight him lol.
Me too
For me Mr. Sandman was always the hardest
It took me forever to get past Soda Popinski as a kid, so to see him get handled up in 51 seconds blew my mind.
Hahaha best comment. Im playing aswell. Feeling like noob. XD
Well Mr.Dream/Mike Tyson is faster
Soda is tough
Its the controls.
That was awesome... brought back sòooooooo many memories 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 u made it look easy!!! Real happy the algorithm brought that in my feed😀😀😀
Dude..... here I am, at 45.... in 2021... and just as Iron Mike Tyson, I've never seen such finger speed in my life. Ur insane... hell yeah!
What a cult classic, one of the best NES games ever! As a kid growing up in the 80s being able to get to Tyson & finally beating him (after many attempts) was just so much fun. Great memories that still bring a smile even to this day :)
You didn’t beat Tyson lol It just sounds cool to say nobody beat Tyson when this came out
On nes it's not Mike Tyson it's Mr dream
@eyeo99 actually, it started off with Mike Tyson as the cover boxer but, due to his legal troubles, he was removed from the later releases of the game, and replaced him with Mr. Dream.
Anyone remember! Going Friday night to the video store and taking your time browsing thru games and renting your favorite title ! Was hook playing all night
What’s a video store
Remember Track and field games using the foot pad? So much fun. Nintendo and Sega were jam back in the day.
Those were the days.
Tecmo bowl
That and anything even close to that or that feeling is so long gone and forever. Everything used to be much better.
Thank you for this video!!! Great memories!!!
I used to love this game as a kid I remember when it came out! Me and brother use to play no stop! Lol! Awwww man! Thanks for this! AWESOME!
This game was EVERYTHING when I was younger! I messed up alot of controllers getting pissed off at this game. Whoever made this video made it look easy but, TRUST ME this game was hard as Sh!t! You felt like you actually fought Tyson after it was over. So much emotions & nerves!
Facts
@Evorii good luck
Hahahahaha
Yessir... I never beat the game past Samdman...🤣😍🤣
Sooooo true. I would get pissed and break the damn remote control 😂🤣😂🤣
One of the greatest video games ever. So simple yet so great. Spent a lot time with friends playing the game
This game is the reason my family got a Nintendo when I was 5
Back when timing was everything and graphics didn't matter as much as addictive fun games on hard-core mode with no save points....
I can care less about the graphics and modernities of today's stuff.
congratulations! Some people will never know what an accomplishment this is.
James McLeod easy to do when this is a ROM and Mac is moving A LOT faster than the original nes game
I turn 40 on the 30th of this month, and seeing this.. just took me back. Man you almost had a perfect game! Loved every bit of it!!!
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
He purposely got knocked down so Sandman did his thing quicker
48 the 30th of this month! Happy Birthday to us bro! This took me back too.
I spend so much time in this game in my younger days. It was such big back in the day when I was young.
This was the first Nintendo game that I beat. Thanks for posting this!
God I miss the music from this game. The NES had some of the catchiest tunes.
I don't remember getting stars every punch. he must be cheating 👎👎
definitely some cheat codes... especially noticeable on the Tyson fight... I've played that dodge and 2 uppercut strategy probably a hundred times! and Tyson is still at 75% power after one minute
Jimmie Green you have to pause about a nanosecond between punches and it destroys his power. You can see this dude does it if you look for it. I remember when I found out about it as a kid too and then it took all the fun out of it
Jimmie Green after 1:30 in the 1st round he stops dynamite uppercuts
Heroic Love Check out the jungle theme from snakes revenge. That's a super catchy nes tune that I can't stop listening to haha
This was the first game I ever beat! Watching this brought tears to my eyes. WOW!
Remember this like yesterday. Thanks for bringing up the memories
Thank you for posting this games
*007-373-5963*
Still remember the code to Tyson after all these years.
Its 10 digits. Call it.
I beat Tyson in the early 90s at like 9 years old.
@John Dunbar LMAOOOO!!!
Saving the princess and beating Mike Tyson...the grade school Nintendo holy grail.
*Sega not Nintendo
Top 2 major accomplishments early 1980s kids
absolutly
Jack Epples this was Nintendo NES
@@jackepples2811 Before you correct someone, you should actually be correct. This game was never on Sega. (NES) Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
Sure brings back memories! Best game ever!
I miss this game so much. I could never get past sandman as a kid. Game on sandman im coming out of retirement.
you can download it on the Google play store. It's called Punch Him Out Ring
Hes the hardest out of all of them. That uppercut frenzy is hard to time for me.
AFTER ABOUT 1 YEAR AND A HALF I FINALLY GOT TO MIKE TYSON ( I WAS 20 YEARS OLD AS ANY BABYBROTHERS GAME, I WASENT PLAING IT ALL DAY I WISH...BUT YEAH FINALLY GOT TO THE DREAM FIGHT JUST TO GET KNOCKOUT WITH ONE PUCNCH LOL
Athrough Z..... really?? I’m downloading it now!!! 😁👍👍👍
lmao how did it go
been smiling while watching the vid.. remembered my elementary years.. always excited to go home after school to play punch out, gradius, battle city, mario, donkey kong, 1941, street fighter and others.. ☺️
Great Game...Beating Tyson Was All Hand Muscle Memory
I'm reading a few other comments about cheat codes.
Before we knew what muscle memory was.
This was the best game ever the time it was released.
Jim Harol your an idiot
TheNebulosity yep
Bradley Dougherty yes
I played the shit out of it. But I could never get passed bald bull rematch.
TazeMeBro McCleskey still is one of the greatest of all time
It brings back good memories, can't believe it has been nearly 35 years ago.
IKR!! Time goes by fast!! This year is flying like Tyreek Hill!! The 80's were the best!! 😎👍
Amazing memories. Just the game sounds / music makes me happy
Wow, this is outright amazing!
This was such a great time, brings back so many memories of my childhood. I loved Nintendo, but the difference between now and then was even if you had a video game you went outside and played too.
So true R Deery
Riding bikes all over the place...

@@justanameonyourscreen5954 Hell yea we was lol!
R Deery exactly 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I wish I grew up during the 80’s. Now all we have is bad music and boring and repetitive fps games.
22 minutes well spent . Thank you
The way Don Flamenco fell to the canvas was always hilarious! 🤣
Some of these old school games need to come back, this is a classic of all time love it 🥊🥊
I think the Wii remade this
*HOLY CRAP, YOU CAN BEAT SANDMAN IN THE FIRST ROUND?* 😰
My toupee's off to you, good sir!
Man, these sound effects bring a tear to my eye. What a time to be alive. This game made my childhood special.
I got a Rog Ally and have been getting these retro games. Man I love video games! Now I’m just watching videos of these gems. Good memories!
