20 Things to do in Santiago, Chile City Guide | Top Attractions Travel Guide Travel Video Transcript:
Santa Lucia is an urban park smack dab in the middle of Santiago and it’s a popular hangout in the afternoons and weekends. The hike is a pleasant one with lots to see, including fountains, spiralling staircases, defensive forts, sprawling gardens, and cool lookout points.
Lastarria is a neighbourhood located just east of Santa Lucia hill and it was once the bohemian hub of the city.Today it is very popular with tourists as it offers an outdoors flea market, an international mix of cafes and restaurants, & live music.
For panoramic views of the city, ride the funicular to the top of San Cristobal Hill.
Plaza de Armas is the heart of Santiago’s historic centre. There are lots of benches under the cover of palm trees, and the place is buzzing with activity. The Metropolitan Cathedral is located in the historic centre of Santiago overlooking the square. The construction you see today dates back to the year 1800, since previous cathedrals were destroyed in earthquakes.
Santiago’s Central Market is the place to come for the freshest food. You'll find rows of restaurants serving up everything from grilled fish to ceviche. We really like our ceviche, so we found a place serving exactly that.
Parque Forestal is a park that forms a long stretch of greenery along the Mapocho River. It’s a nice green escape in the middle of the city.
Palacio de la Moneda is the seat of the President of the Republic of Chile. This is where you can come to watch the changing of the guard. Just underneath Palacio de La Moneda, you’ll find Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda, which is a cultural centre featuring exhibitions, design shops, and a small selection of cafes.
Bellavista is a cultural hub with lots of theatres, cinemas, cafes, museums, and restaurants. The most famed home in the neighbourhood is La Chascona, the home of the famed Chilean poet Pablo Neruda.
And that's a wrap for the Chilean capital! We hope you enjoyed this Santiago travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do, places to visit, and Chilean dishes to try in the city.

We lived in Chile in late 90’s and loved the ambience of Los Dominicos which is an old mission that was turned into little curio shops and authentic food including empanadas. A return visit would definitely include that as either the very first stop to begin the nostalgia or the very last as a sweet lingering memory as we left.

I am heading to Santiago in June, so thanks very much for the excellently informative video, it has not only re-enforced some ideas I had in regards to things to see, but opened my eyes to go try out a couple of things I didn't have planned. You have in essence made this city 'pop' for me, the power of the visual shared experience. Thanks.

Always wanted to visit Chile. Hope to do so in the future and this you tube contribution is just great for Santiago. I think (in my case) that watching that great sunset would have to be accompanied by a big Cuban Havana Cigar and I am sure a glass of two of a superb Chilean wine would be thrown in somewhere as well!

I´m very excited to visit Santiago. Empanadas look amazing, cant wait to taste them. Nice video. By the way, there is no need to fight. Samuel nor Audrey have mentioned Pisco Sour or ceviche are part of Chile´s national cuisine, it is settled in stone that those are peruvians. It will be nice to know if they do have a difference though. That´s the beauty of traveling.Enjoy the moment & the place. Stop fighting.

Diego Alvarez that is true but South Chile is more interesting if you are into Outdoor adventure sports or you like to see forest. Lakes. Volcanoes and snow... not the favourite landscape for cold countries like Canada for example. For Brazilians the southern chile/argentina thing is very exotic

Some tasty things to eat on the island include empanadas and ice cream. To save some money on Easter Island check out guest houses as opposed to hotels.

Hermoso video! We are planning to go to Santiago in September. Can you tell me about the wheather there? Did you visit other cities such as Valparaiso and Viña del Mar? We are planning to do that! Im from Argentina and my partner is from Australia 😊😊😊❤...so we are going to speak Spanish and English! This was what i wanted to see from Santiago! Thank you!!! The old cathedral in pink is in barrio Lastarria? We are staying in Lastarria. Abrazos! Besos latinos!

Thank you very much! That is exciting to hear. Santiago was warm when we visited mind you it was summer at the time. We visited both and they are nearby Santiago. Actually if you stay in Valparaiso you can easily do a day-trip.

Chile is by far the most advanced and also the one with the best economy, the cleanest and safest for tourist. it is pretty much a developed country. Brazil, Ecuador and Uruguay are also beautiful places. Peru if it wasnt so dirty and the people so desperate to make a sell could be my top pick.

    • @user-xz1ge2ln6v
      @user-xz1ge2ln6v 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Realty into Reality Peru is dirty ?? You are ignorant, Peru has twice as many landscapes and twice as many beautiful places, Peru has biodiversity, in fact it is in the top of the most biodiverse countries on the planet, Chile is just an arid place,

+antking1117 Actually it is the other way around. Peru is quite a bit cheaper than Chile on average. Actually Chile is one of (if not the most) expensive countries to visit in South America - especially anywhere touristy like San Pedro de Atacama.

Alexis Cartagena Santiago is vibrant and cultural city, and the time for your visit can dependent what do you want to do, Do you want ski? (betwen jun. to september) 40 minutes you will find La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado resort
Would you like wineyard? In the middle of the city there are two:Cousiño Macul and Concha y Toro Wineyard
Trekking? Spa? Rafting? You´ll find in El Cajon del Maipo, 40 minutes close the city. The best place for me is a Termas Colina in the middle of de Andean Mountains, with hot and natural waters from San José volcano.
120 kms. to Stgo there are two shore line cities Valparaiso and Viña del Mar in half way, Casablanca Valley with many others wineyards.
But the top one in the city, are their parks:Metropolitano, Bicentenario,Forestal, Balmaceda,De los Reyes,Quinta Normal, O´Higgins, etc.
Finally museums like Bellas Artes(fine arts),Precolombino,Historia Natural,Centro Cultural La Moneda,Del Banco Central,De la Memoria.
      Wants more?
