I arrived in Valpa on a moonless night, therefore I could not see the colours of the city instesd, I was terrified by the deep, cadenced loud noise coming from the....mighty ocean below my feet. A very dramatic and unforgettable experience that happened in 1991. Gracias Valpa.
Literally I think I found my city, it reminds me a little bit of Istanbul with how man strays there are but Iove animals and I love the architecture. Wow 😍
YES Mikayla! We LOVED Valparaiso for the architecture and animals too! 😊 We've never been to Istanbul, but we have a friend who lives there that we hope to visit next year! We've heard AMAZING things about Turkey overall. Have you been to Istanbul before?!
I am thinking about studying abroad in Valparaiso, but I’m afraid of dogs. Based on your experience, are the strays docile and a good way for someone to get more comfortable with dogs, or would you not advise someone who’s afraid of dogs to go?
@@alisonmcalistair I'd recommend going to an animal shelter and getting acquainted with dogs before going there. Even if they're nice, if they sense you're nervous, they could get scared. The shelter will help you learn house to approach dogs and also how to handle a dog that might be scared. A good tip is if you're going to be around them, crouch down on their level and slowly reach from under to pet. Don't walk too fast up to a dog, they will get startled, walk slowly and talk very happy and soft (almost baby like), they enjoy that. It gets them excited and let's them know you aren't a threat. If the tail is tucked and ears are down, I'd just be cautious and keep walking. If the tail is wagging and they seem playful, do what I said at the beginning. The dogs from what I've seen are very docile and sweet. They will not hurt you.
Great video! I was born in Chile. Pretty much raised in the US. I live in the San Francisco bay area, and have always found many similarities between SF and Valpo! I miss my place of birth and its people so much.
