    I've been playing golf for 30 years. 13 handicap now, I 've tried so many things with variable results but this video was like taking the blind covers off. I've worked on hip rotation, grip, angle of attack - you name it, I've watched some video on it and tried it. How many times have friends said to me - " slow down mate, relax..." Today is the day - playing in a 8 ball 2 groups, big internal. Hope it works! Thanks guys. Great stuff.

    What a great video!
    This is a subject that doesn’t get enough attention. In the age of “Strokes Gained” where, when it comes to the Driver, the emphasis is on distance, distance, distance what is not expressed often enough is that if a good strike isn’t achieved all that extra effort in swinging faster is for naught. Swinging faster & hitting the ball further is only helpful if the ball stays on the planet. It seems to me that, particularly for amateurs the whole Strokes Gained methodology has the potential to pull the golfers’ focus away from “strike location” and ends up leading to poor results & frustration.
    Another great video guys.

    Strike is something I’ve worked on thanks to video content like this highlighting it. never covered during a lesson, which is where I think golf coaching (certainly my experience of it) is wrong as it’s geared towards instant fixes that don’t last rather than working on skills like this that will actually improve you long term

    Ooh what's this?.... a cheeky little video released in the daytime. Feels like an early Christmas present. Thanks guys. I still think Lee's right knee, that initial move backwards as he straightens it, needs sorting. It must do someone to his hip movement. Restrict it and possibly change the angle of its rotation. Great video and that GC Quad is just brilliant.

    Going to use tape on the mat when I'm next on the range to create a gate drill, and having an image of swinging inside it. Also will use foot spray to dial in the strike location. Gonna do this for both driver and irons.
    Dan, you are literally my favourite golf youtuber and I thank you for vlogs. Regards. 👍

  • @boatbuilder781

    Started using this drill a few years ago it helped then and I still go back to it when I feel that I’m losing the ball on impact.

  • @mjsgolf7004
    @mjsgolf7004 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For those without a GCquad, 18 months ago I started to use dry shampoo spray on the club face which shows strike. Its a big help to know where you are actually hitting the face of the club with the ball. My drive strikes were a bit low and so I increased tee height to fix that one (and to allow me to hit more up on the ball). Dan did a vid on this too I think. There are quick and cheap ways to get an idea of what is going on. Testing Lester must be a hard job Dan, how do you get him to concentrate !

    • @LWG

    Smashing the tee as Lee did gets it out of the top half of the face. Getting comfortable with your stock swing gets it out of the center.

  • @tonywestwell
    @tonywestwell 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Terrific that Dan, yes I will be focusing on strike when I go to the range today and then play 9 holes. Great to see Lee's face when he found that he still swung the club quickly even though he wasn't thinking about it.

    Lee is our hero. And by “our” I mean all of us 9-12 handicappers. I’m not sure if I’d have the courage to put my game on display in front of the world and there is NO WAY I’d do it in front of the world while playing with the likes Dan’s brother and Will. I’ve been on a 12 year odyssey to get myself to “single digits” and I finally made it (last revision has me at 9.1). But it has taken 12 long years of frustration, finally taking a set of 10 lessons AND obsessively watching Dan (and Crossfield) for the last several years. It took 12 years to finally realize, I HAVE to find the center of the club face. My strike consistency is no where near Dan’s or even Lester’s but it is getting better and is something I actively focus on each time I’m at the range or playing. I can’t wait to watch Lee’s journey to scratch. We’re all pulling for him and I know he’ll do it.

    • @ThePhilTorretto
      @ThePhilTorretto 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@montysraddish5883 Fair enough. Personally I’m impressed with Lee’s willingness to put his game out there for the whole world to see while he’s attempting to get to scratch. I know I’m not sure I’d be willing to show you all of my shanks, thins, fats, slices, snap hooks and 3-jacks while I’ve been trying to get to the same place over the last 12 years. That’s all I’m really saying. It takes some courage to put yourself out there like that. Lee’s personality and banter style may not be your cup of tea but I think you should give him some credit.

    • @ThePhilTorretto
      @ThePhilTorretto 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@montysraddish5883 Wow. Ok. Clearly you dislike Lee a lot. I don’t want to argue. I’ll just say the I love the idea that Dan is including a mid handicapper on a journey to attempt to play to scratch. I’m on that same journey myself. And while I do think Lee get’s a bit to chatty behind the camera at times, I identify with his game...or occasionally lack there of. That’s all I meant when I said “lee is our hero” and to “give him some credit”. I like seeing a mid handicapper on the channel and Dan trying help him achieve his goal of scratch.

    Very interesting video!! I think there's a lot of thought on this with Bryson bombing it and strokes gained changing the way golfers think. There is a lot of thought that says go as fast as you can and then work on control. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this as I believe that if you're a young golfer learning the game the above is the best way, get as much speed as you can then start to learn to control it. However if you are a 'mid-career' golfer/mid to high handicapper who doesn't control strike/face/path then slowing down is by far the best option as there are limits to how fast you can actually get anyway.

    • @robertcourt8593

    Great video. How much did the centre strike effect his performance. Distance accuracy etc
