Guys, really sorry about the wind disturbance on this one. We didn’t have the appropriate mic’s for filming outside on a gusty day. We have that sorted for next time. 🙏🏻
This guy is 100000% the best guest you've had.. He explains everything in a way that is easy to understand, and he is obviously incredibly knowledgeable. I can't wait to get out on the range and try this
Martin Chuck dropping pure knowledge and solving golf games. These videos have been SO USEFUL!!! Proof that any time alignment sticks come out it's going to be a good video 💥
I played a stringer earlier this year but I had the exact same problem as Ian, I would keep hooking them to the point of hurting more than helping. Martin's explanation for why this happens, and how to fix it, is so unbelievably intelligent and digestible. I can't wait to get back out and practice this!
I'm the 11 hcp version of Ian's old stinger - ball back, hit down, 30 yard hook, bye bye ball. Time to try coach's 'new' approach. Wind noise on the mic didn't bother me - just proved that it really was windy.
okay i had to come back to comment, i took this advice to the course today, without any practice prior, just focusing on ball position through the bag the entire round, long story short, I shot my best round in probably my 30yrs of golfing, its kinda a anti left swing thought that really triggered it. being able to go a couple under for a Longdrive guy who apparently can't putt and has no short game, felt pretty good and it was definitely not the perfect round by any means. thanks for the tips Martin.
Love it. Monte Scheinblum teaches the same thing for a stinger or punch shot. Ball forward and stay forward. No surprise honestly since him and Monte have similar philosophies.
This was a game changer for me, I hit the ball high and using the new T200s struggle to flight the ball lower. Like most people I would have weight on front foot, ball back and hit pull hooks all day, and not that low either. Tried the weight forward off the front foot today and just hit flighted straight shots. Thank you for the great content
Played lots of street hockey when I was a kid - when you want to shoot low, finish shot low. Want to shoot high, finish high. Those were the swing thoughts a always used when trying to hit a stinger - regular ball position, but feel like I was cutting off my swing, finishing forward rather than up. Maybe I was just keeping my weight forward, rather than leaning back. Will give the instruction from this vid a try at next range session !
I absolutely love that, forward in stance and and play down and across. Boom peeling fade. Always struggled playing knock down shots, can’t wait to try this out.
i came across this today by accident, always hit a draw but peeled off some gorgeous low baby fades under the wind. looking forward to next week as my local course is fade friendly and not a single hole sets up for a draw
Love all this content Ian! I'm learning alot my home course is ocean front and have been struggling with the left shots trying to flight the ball! Can't wait to get to the range
You guys need a dead cat on the mic and a big time spotlight or reflector to allow you to stop down and try to kill some of that sun (But easier said than done). Great video!
Such a great video, thank you. Practiced this technique and used it in 4 rounds or so now. It’s become my ‘stock safety shot’. Carry just shy of 200 yards, roll out loads, fairway finder when there is nothing scary to cover. And it looks really cool in front of my mates. Shall I hit another stinger, lads?
Well this was informative but do these same swing thoughts apply with a hybrid? I would think most watching carry a three hybrid instead of a three iron.
Love the channel but c'mon, his push draw shot was lower than Ian's one shot low fade. All good stuff but why manipulate what is in front of our eyes with the shot tracker
I'm a bit confused. I hit my long irons from forward of center to begin with and I'm not hitting stingers. I ripping the you know what out of it, but it's not flighted. If I want to bring it down I move it back a ball that's it and try to cover it with my sternum. Instant flighted stinger that doesn't hook. So I'm definitely a bit confused about the stinger part. I get the ball position forward for a higher ball flight with high hands finish. I certainly get the hook part moving it way back in your stance, been there failed at that. I even tried to open the blade to prevent the hook, no beuno. I learned the hard way small adjustments have huge impacts and keeps it playable. At the end talking about 3 and 5 woods, I hit knockdowns with a driver too. Makes for an excellent fairway finder. Hit down on it a touch for more spin to gain a bit more control. It works. It won't carry as far but it will run out on dry fairways.
It appears that is info doesn’t apply to you. A lot of people move the ball back AND hit down more. That pushes the path more inside out even when you are aiming “straight” and thus the tendency to hook it.
@@tourstriker oh I have dealt with that hook. I understand it very well. Small adjustments make a huge impact on ball flight. It doesn't take massive alterations to make the ball do different things.
this is super cool. But when I watch pga players play in the wind and at the British open, they always play back in the stance. Is this because they manage the face better? they like the low draws because it runs more doesn't it?
Under pressure the dominant hand takes over and the swing left around left hip becomes a pull hook. PGA pros underpressure hit it left. "one and done" doesnt work under pressure IMO.
Can somebody who knows, preferably Ian what happened to Matt on the channel, just curious, I haven't watched the channel for awhile and can't find any info on the subject. I remember he had some neck/physical problems awhile ago or something and he wasn't acting like he was leaving anytime soon as he stated some plans for the future with the channel shortly before he disappeared. I mean no disrespect and I'm making no accusations in this request, I'm just curious.
I’ve often heard and experienced that when hitting more ‘down ‘on the ball which creates more spin will make the ball go higher. No? I confuse me please…😂
I'm confused. I just watched this: th-cam.com/video/HwcWYDs9Yqw/w-d-xo.html I guess it depends on how open or shut the club face is and the way you swing???
Ball location is a big contributor to club path. If you want to avoid a ball that curves into a draw/hook, a forward ball location helps to provide a “cut across” path that lends itself to a fade/cut pattern on the stinger. I’m not familiar w MrShortGame, but he has done a nice job building his channel.
Good stuff, but I don't think this is a true stinger, more of a flighted shot. The real stinger is hit with a delofted face, and a rather shallow angle of attack, where the divot is minimal. This is a great video of a super slo-mo Tiger woods stinger, th-cam.com/video/6VNLGKjYvYk/w-d-xo.html and as you can see, he is not hitting down on the ball. Zac Radford is also very skilled in the stinger shot, but he has said it took him about a year to perfect it.
A little disappointing trying to tell people to hit low fades only for the low shot. what happens if you have a dog leg left hole. missed a chance to discuss palmer flexing the wrist during the follow thru as well no radial deviation ( re cocking of the wrists ) for the finish. most amateurs already struggle with this shot and you're trying to make it their to go to for a low shot, not the best advance imo. good video nonetheless.
@@kevinconnolly754 the point was to hit a low shot but it was explained in a very one sided way. I think their is a better way to get more consistent results than the procedure they used.
My point was pretty simple. Most players move the ball back in their stance to try to flight it down. They don’t realize they create extra rightward path, for the right handed golfer by doing so. This video wasn’t about showing people how to curve it both ways. Although, I did mention putting the ball back can create more rightward path to curve it right to left. Trying to work a golf ball around corners on doglegs isn’t recommended unless you’re Ben Hogan or Moe Norman.
This isn't really a lesson on how to hit a stinger, it's a lesson on how to not hook the ball. Playing the ball back for a stinger is definitely correct. You just have to understand what that does to the swing. I play stingers back in my stance, but I stand a bit open cause I know it's going to make my path right, and I keep my hands from releasing early so that I don't hook it. The ball winds up coming out low and pushed a bit, but I compensated for that with setup. Putting the ball forward doesn't help hit it low, it just makes you have to compensate the other direction by swinging left. Not sure what the point of that was in this lesson except to see you hit a fade. Go find me a single tour pro who hits a stinger with the ball that forward, or even forward at all for that matter.
Guys, really sorry about the wind disturbance on this one. We didn’t have the appropriate mic’s for filming outside on a gusty day. We have that sorted for next time. 🙏🏻
It was a nice added effect for hitting stingers! Nae but a good Scottish breeze!
unforgivable 😂
My day was ruined. Thanks a bunch.
I got enough out of it to try it for my golf trip early next week.
Couldn't focus, now I'll never be able to hit that low penetrating stinger
love the microphone wind, a subtle reminder of the purpose of this video
This guy is 100000% the best guest you've had.. He explains everything in a way that is easy to understand, and he is obviously incredibly knowledgeable. I can't wait to get out on the range and try this

Alignment Stick Magic😂
This series of mini lessons by this clearly talented coach are AWESOME!! Keep them coming!
I am loving these videos, Martin Chuck is a legend. His live lessons are a must watch, really good and funny at times!
Yeah, he's got some one hour lessons on his tourstriker channel. Absolutely worth a watch. Plus he has many shorter technique lessons.
Loved that!!! Busy day at the patch this weekend!!!

Awesome! Glad it helped you flight it more reliably.
Glad someone cleared this up, too many people just think it’s a big punch shot. Cheers
Tested this shot on the TrackMan and on the course. Works unbelievably well!
Love it. Monte Scheinblum teaches the same thing for a stinger or punch shot. Ball forward and stay forward. No surprise honestly since him and Monte have similar philosophies.
Great series! Been a fan of Martin Chuck for around a decade now. 😀 Playing the ball up on the stance to play a stinger? Wow! I have to try this.
This was a game changer for me, I hit the ball high and using the new T200s struggle to flight the ball lower. The past 2 videos with Mr. Chuck have been fire

It was windier than heck today in Calgary. I used this technique all day today and WOW, what a weapon in the bag it is! Thank you Team TXG! 👍 👊
Awesome
I absolutely love that, forward in stance and and play down and across. Boom peeling fade.
Always struggled playing knock down shots, can’t wait to try this out.
Awesome! Loving this series
Martin is a very good coach. Nice video
More of this! Some of the best golf tips describing nuance managed in an easy way I have ever seen. Well done!

This is excellent
Could listen to Martin all day - wonderful series of videos.
Watching this I realized the solution to one of my issues... I hit a lot of low fades. Need to put the ball a little further back!
Love this tried it today at the range mostly only the back foot pretty successfully too. Will try the front foot fade next time. Thanks again guys
Absolute GOLD!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!
Love all this content Ian! I'm learning alot my home course is ocean front and have been struggling with the left shots trying to flight the ball! Can't wait to get to the range
the irony of this video having the occasional windy audio... lol
Perfect conditions 😂
Great video
Very understandable,,, ty guys

The best shot in golf
Can't wait to try it! Thanks.
This is awesome!
Love Martin!
This video is amazing 👏 great instruction
Great content!
Loving these instructional videos. Maybe it's the camera view but those shots didn't look like what I imagined a "stinger" would look like.
It’s a really elevated tee. We were probably 40’ above the fairway.
Such a great video, thank you. Practiced this technique and used it in 4 rounds or so now. It’s become my ‘stock safety shot’. Carry just shy of 200 yards, roll out loads, fairway finder when there is nothing scary to cover.

Well this was informative but do these same swing thoughts apply with a hybrid? I would think most watching carry a three hybrid instead of a three iron.
I think i could still hook it off the front foot lol. Great lesson guys.
This was great. My knockdown always went left on left.
What prevents from hitting a straight pull when the ball doesn't fade and does go in the water?
You prevent it. Easier to hold a face off than judge how much to roll it. You can do it.
Great video. Question… when hitting this shot on the tee box with a 3 wood do you tee it up or hit it off the deck ?
Thx love the content.
For this shot, I like to whack the ground and place the ball on an elevated bump, rather than a tee.
Love the channel but c'mon, his push draw shot was lower than Ian's one shot low fade. All good stuff but why manipulate what is in front of our eyes with the shot tracker
Another nugget!!

All my long irons are these types of low flighted shots. Being from scotland, the wind can kill your round.

Go back to one of the first videos in January 2022 on this channel. Ian lays it out, very well.
Loving the content. Where can I get a lesson???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Please fix audio
Shout out to a fellow NMSU Alum
Turn on Subtitles/CC. It's not that bad lol
Forgot to engage the dead cat.
NMSU!
I’ve often heard and experienced that when hitting more ‘down ‘on the ball which creates more spin will make the ball go higher. No? I confuse me please…😂
Hitting down, but delivering a low amount of loft narrows the spin loft window. If you deliver alot of loft and attack down it will spin like crazy.
The tricky part is staying on the left side vs falling back on it...
keep the stance a little more narrow stops the weight shift pretty well😉
shame about the wind noise here -
Now I start to pulling it so bad😢
