The Hidden Secret To Hitting Your Driver Straight

  • Golfers struggle to hit driver straight because they are unaware of 3 small adjustments they need to make in the golf swing. In this golf video Danny Maude gets straight to the point and explains exactly what you need to do to hit driver straight.
At the start of the golf lesson Danny explains why a traditional style golf set-up actually prevents you from hitting the golf ball straight.
He then gives you a process to follow that will immediately start to straighten up any ball flight. Obviously on a golf course you don't want to be changing too much at once so the 3 golf tips are given in order of importance.
Golf Tip 1 takes the curve away while Golf Tip's 2 and 3 focus on making sure the golf ball set's off online so you hit the centre of the fairway.
Nobody seems to get told this and as a result spend years struggling to hit driver straight. I hope this helps you in your quest to be a better driver of a golf ball,

    ABOUT DANNY
    -----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On TH-cam and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Where has this been for the last 40 years? LOL
My fault is a right push, where my hands and upper body are just a bit late to the party, and I make contact square to the ball, but the face angle is pointing to the right at contact.
This setup drill may help me with that, and the Good Lord knows I can use the help!
    Thanks, Danny.

Great video Dan as always. I only slice my woods but suspect it’s in the set up. Irons nice and straight with perhaps draw / pull bias when it’s a little off. I’ll give this a go today on the course.

@Danny Maude Thales for the reply! My back foot and weight shift seems to be okay. I have recorded my swing in slow motion to try and see where I'm going wrong. It appears my back swing is low and as expected, then my down swing is steep with a high hand finish. I'll just have to keep working on it and see what I can do. Keep up the great work on your videos!!

So thank you very much! One thing I always wondered about is the fact that you sometimes stand at address with the club head closer to yourself than when you strike it. Is there a reason for this? I've seen it in your long iron videos, as well as driver. Thanks!

Great tips Danny as always simple and easy to understand. That said I find when I move the ball back in my stance I tend to hit the ground behind the ball or even hit down on the ball. Is this because I must have a chronic over the top swing or just to much weight on my right side

I'm glad I saw this video when I did. Granted, I don't play very often, over the years, I reduced my slice to where now I push the ball to the right. It has to do with the down swing, but I tried this technique prior to a round this Sunday. As long as I followed through correctly, what a massive difference. Consistently averaged 25+ more yards, nice and straight with a slight draw from time to time. Thanks Danny!

It makes so much sense to me and I want to do this, but i watched your explanation of the hip change towards the target multiple times [2:29] and can't really get it. Any chance your could further explain what practically i would need to do with my hips to produce more of a draw arc?
I tried what you said, moving your butt towards the target but for me that doesn't change the direction of the swing plane, it just changed how much my spine was tilting away from the ball.

Nice video. Does this 'body pivot' work if you've got an open stance with the feet? My new pro completely changed my set up - from a closed stance, draw type swing to a more open stance, lower tee. Seems like it would promote an over the top swing. But I'm still slicing it with the occasional pull thrown in for good measure. It seems you can have the right path but you need to control club face too which is arguably much harder(?)

Content always helpful, but can I ask two questions, 1, how important is golf ball selection, I am 71 with slow swing speed, how important is compression of a ball for my age and swing speed, 2, golf club selection, thinking more about type of club brand, eg, type of driver, make and model, etc, again taking into consideration my age and swing speed. Do these issues matter.?
    Many thanks Don Bradbury

So... question... played yesterday and struggled with the lefts. This was moreso with the driver. This has been a trend over the past couple weeks... constantly left... sometimes just a pull and sometimes with some hook to it. One of our guys was telling me yesterday that Im "quitting on my swing... amd not getting my left hip opened up and this was causing me to flip the clup more and turning to ball over." Does this sound like a likely diagnosis and what drill(s) would you suggest to get me to FEEL like I'm achieving an aggressive swing and proper follow through??? Right now, I'm just not feeling it. Thanks for all your helpful advice... you have certainly helped me play better golf this summer... I just need to get over the top to achieve better consistency.

Excellent video Danny on hitting the driver straight! I really don't have a slicing problem since my swing is in to out which usually generates straight and draw type shots. What I was interested in this video were your explanation of the "swing circle" and the "draw swing spectrum." This is something that I have been working on in my swing and although it's still a work in progress, I am making advances.
