Very Easy, particularly on the PC version is a very unique category. I've seen a few comments of people confused, or suggesting this isn't a legitimate run. ====ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION====
Boba of Yogscast fame, today accidentally glitched through the Comms Tower A door halfway up the room. The community were straight on it and within hours it had been replicated consistently, using a Chaff Grenade rather than the original SOCOM. As a result, we can shave 2 minutes off a PC run and 2:30 minutes off a Console run by skipping the Rappel section. See 08:20 for the strat in use.
In turn, I present the [former] World Record for PC Any% Very Easy, the world's first sub-30 minute run of Metal Gear Solid. It's not perfect, I usually throw the bomb that Ocelot puts in your inventory immediately after Rappel and subsequently forgot, so there is a death in here. Couple of other bits were a little sloppy and PAL key wasn't best RNG so there's some save there.

Saw the news about the Boba skip, and this is great stuff. Not a speedrunner, but I like seeing players play this game with absolute ease after hours of grinding.

I think Boba said either 'Kevin' or 'The Boba Skip' is fine. Seems people are coalescing around the Boba Skip.
Boba originally called it Kevin as she thought calling it the Boba Skip was too egotistical. Both her community and MGSR disagreed, we name strats after the people who discovered them all the time, so the Boba Skip has stuck.

@@Gazagua Roughly 2 mins on the PC version. Console runs will save about 2:30 minutes as there are a few loading screens that take longer that get skipped now.

Very Easy is one of the more complicated categories for MGS1. But as a result, it is the fastest.

Is it acceptable in these runs to use cheats? Or in Very Easy mode are you given a gun with max ammo? Also how did you skip the Wolf fight? It's unbelievable to me that you're in the blast furnace in 10 minutes.
Edit: I was unaware that the gun with max ammo is given to Snake in Very Easy mode, that was the "cheat" I was referring to.. that isn't actually a cheat at all. Thanks guys.
Depends on the run, but most of the most competitive speed run categories across games involve skips and glitches. This run allows them, and is the first one to use a skip found by someone who was playing the game for the first time ever, and was streaming it.
In-game glitches, such as the new Boba skip, going out of bounds etc, are all completely legal for all categories. The one special one that is only allowed in Very Easy is the Area Reloader bound to F7. This is a dev tool built into the game, but can also be accessed after a number of save files are created.
Very Easy doesn't provide a score screen when you complete the game, so there's no in-game timer that we have to keep accurate, meaning we're allowed to use this tool. In all other difficulties, the Area Reloader is forbidden, as we have to maintain the accuracy on the in-game timer. Further details can be found here: th-cam.com/video/hVoALSu8FXU/w-d-xo.html
The MP5 is a silenced, automatic rifle with infinite ammo that replaces the FAMAS. It is given to Snake at the start of the game on Very Easy only.
@@NickRPGreen Thanks, sorry I wasn't more clear, I was asking about the gun specifically. I've only played MGS on PS1 so didn't know about the MP5 being given to Snake.
@@nickd1978 No worries. Very Easy was only ever included on the Integral version of the game, which was only ever released in Japan for the PS1, but it's also the version of the PC port. So the MP5 isn't overly common knowledge.

Genuinely forgot. I usually dump it the moment rappel ends, and as this was the first run I'd ever done where I didn't have to rappel, I forgot. XD

Yes, you see? This is not what we call a playthrough, it's a speedrun. That means that this fella is going to be using everything he can to beat the game as fast as possible. That means glitches, skips and all that stuff. This is a speedrun.
Does V. Easy give infinite ammo? I’ve actually never played on Very Easy
Very Easy gives you the MP5 from the beginning. It replaces the FAMAS and has infinite ammo. The major difference with Very Easy is there's no score screen at the end, which other difficulties use to determine your final time. As such, Very Easy is the only run recorded in Real Time and we're allowed to manipulate the game a lot more as we don't need to keep the In Game Time accurate.

Can you do it again please I blinked and missed it 😂😂 wtf even is this honestly, craziest speed run I've ever seen. The bit at snow path before SW I knew you could go back through the door as a kid but never made nothing from it. Very bizarre glitches here kudos to all involved in finding these out honestly.
Imagine this from everyone elses perspective... everyone be like snake you gotta destroy metal gear, as he suddenly teleports from one major event to the next and after 30 Minutes hes like ''Yeah, Liquid and everyone else is dead, roll the credits'' - but not even the speedrun could save snake from the terrible backtracking you have to do at the end :D Great run!
The PAL key truly is the holy grail of skips in this run. One day, someone will figure it out, and this run will never be the same.
@@NickRPGreen Doesnt Otacon tell you its cold 'everywhere'? Maybe you can also freeze it outside, but most of the lategame plays indoors anyways... finished it on the Master collection again today and totally forgot how much pointless backtracking the game had.
@@CODA96 It will freeze outside, but that's even further back than the warehouse. The game is perfectly built to add on the most time possible. But it'll get cracked one day.
And to think, this is the same amount of time I would spend in the vents deliberately hanging out with the rats.

Never saw any speedruns of this game so I apologize if this is a dumb question but what does running around the second guard at the beginning do
Not a dumb question at all, it's not obvious without any commentary. Towards the end of the run, I had to find the PAL key in the ditch. The PAL key only spawns in the ditch if you have 11 or more Alerts at that point. If you have less, a rat eats the key instead and you have to find it and kill it, which is slower. Therefore, as we have to wait for the elevator, we "farm" alerts at the very start of the game in order to get to 11.
I was wondering the same thing as it made no sense to me. Than he explains it and it makes perfect sense.

@@journey8533 This is using an original PC (not PC master collection) exclusive trick. The original PC version added weapon hotkeys and with them you can interrupt the animation of Snake equipping the PSG1. Because Snake is in an invincible and trigger-less state during the animation, that state is retained when interrupted, allowing you to go out-of-bounds.

The MP5 is exclusive to Very Easy and Very Easy is exclusive to the Integral version of the game. Integral was only released in Japan for the PS1, but it was released worldwide as the PC port, which is the version I'm running.
Can someone explain what's going on when they press F7 and it sorta refreshes the game to somewhere else , and then somehow uses that to glitch through walls and stuff?

There's some special PC only glitches available in MGS1. Some are used in all PC runs, some are exclusive to Very Easy. I'd explain here, but the MGS1 Speedrunning Wiki would be a better source. I played MGS2 and MGS3 about a million times growing up , was basically a (not very fast) no hacks speedrunner back in the day.
I'm currently playing glitch free playthroughs of MGS Integral, learning each room, each guard routine , JaguarKing has a great video on it.
Gonna try and learn the out of bounds hack next to the ladder before you normally meet the Darpa chef.
Also learned about the Boba Skip today , really looking forward to becomming part of this awesome community , who knows maybe in a few years people will be leaving comments like this on my playthroughs. .

This is one of the perks of the Very Easy difficulty, which gives you the MP5 from the beginning. Very Easy is only available on the Integral version of the game, which was only ever released in Japan for PS1, but is the version the PC port is based on.

Asked the same question. Apparently you get this when you play very easy mode. Which of course your and mine testosterone levels always forbade us to even look at.
Snake automatically starts with the MP5 in Very Easy difficulty. VE wasn't on the original English release on PS1, so it's not that well known outside of Japan and the PC audience.

How are you just able to walk up the hill to sniper wolf without getting shot?
We use a combination of GME (god mode exploit) and SWIM (Swapping Weapons Infinite Movement), both of which are exclusive to the PC version, due to the PC version including Weapon Hotkeys (1 to 0 across the top of the keyboard):
- GME: We can interrupt the animation of Snake equipping the PSG1, an animation he is invulnerable during, by quickly hotkeying to a different weapon before Snake finishes the animation. Cancelling the animation early retains the invulnerability. This avoids Snake getting shot when hitting the invisible barrier between him and Wolf.
- SWIM: By swapping between two weapons quickly (in this case the MP5 and Chaff Grenades), we can maintain Snake's forward momentum, even during times we would normally lose control of him. This prevents Snake from stopping when hitting the invisible barrier between him and Wolf.

Are you using mods to skip boss fights? This is clearly PC cause I don't recall there being glitches in ps1 and believe you me iv looked
No mods, but this is the PC version which has a few extra gimmicks not present in the PlayStation version. Weapon hotkeys are one, and the Area Reloader (exclusive to Very Easy) is another. I've never seen that elevator out of bounds before! does that work on console? He was mashing F7, not sure what that does on PC :(
F7 is the area reloader, this is a trick that only works on the original PC version.

Thats not possible on psx or ? I think on psx only meryl die if you glitch to the cell because you can win the torture with low life
@@Jotaro95 The blank save glitch and area reloader is only available on PC. By using it in the way we do, Snake never gets tortured and therefore never submits. The game's default is that you're saving Meryl and only switches the Otacon if you submit.
I have problems to get rid off the stinger after thr vent glitch on psx cant shoot it in the boss fight is there some option to remove it thanks for answer

Edit: I know it says on the controller thing (bottom right) just press 'start' but nothing happens for me
I'm on the PC version. You can't skip codecs on the PS1 version, you have to mash through them.

With this new skip is it possible that this would work on any of the earlier doors?
We've tested a few, but haven't found another that works. We believe it's because the loading zone for the Comm Tower A door is much closer to the door than others, but we'll continue to test to see if it can be reproduced.
only the japanese version has these bugs? I know that in the European version there is also a bug that allows you to skip the first 7 bosses
Very Easy is exclusive to the Japanese only Integral on PSX, which was the basis of the PC port. Weapon hotkeys and the area reloader are exclusive to the PC version.
On any platform, the JP Integral version is the fastest, so it's used for console speedrunning as well. Tricks like the vent glitch are doable on any version, such as the EU versions as you said.
Did he forget the throw away the timer bomb or was that part of the speedrun?
I forgot. I used to throw it immediately after the rappel, so because I skipped the rappel, I didn't remember to chuck it.

The game has an inbuilt Area Reloader, which can also be recreated by saving a bunch of times to glitch a "blank save". Very Easy is the only category we're allowed to use it and using it vs REX progresses the game onto the next scene that takes place in the same room.

Welcome to the PC version. The video I linked previously will help to understand what makes Very Easy so unique, but there's still a lot more to the PC version that's very different from the console version.

@@NickRPGreen Yeah i get it, i guess i am too old school. The drop that made me mad about it was Hitman classic trilogy which was one of my fav games when i was a young folk. In short they do not play the game, the main category is glitching a state in which you are undetectable and just move trough the stage...

It doesn't change how you played it before, and doesn't remove any legitimacy of any other player. No one is taking your experience away from you. If you're getting mad at it, you've got issues. And don't use it as an excuse to throw shit at someone and then pedal back when called out for it. Good try my friend but you did not use the ganishnu skip, I found it myself and it takes out roughly 6 minutes and 45 second if done right, its at the bit where you're in prison and the invisible ninja breaks you out

What do the alerts at the start do?
Towards the end of the game I had to find the PAL key in the drainage ditch. It spawns in a random location if you have at least 11 alerts. If you have 10 or less, it's instead eaten by a rat and you have to kill the rat. It's location is also random and the random location of the key is often faster than the rat. So we farm alerts in the Dock as we've nothing else to do but wait out the timer.

I mean being able to skip all the codec sequences instantly and cutscenes shouldn't count right? Heck the first vent glitch just cut frame to you being inside of it when you was in the elevator..
Skipping codecs and cutscenes instantly is due to it being the PC version, which has almost zero load time.
The cut frame you refer to is using the area Reloader, again a PC exclusive, to do a glitch referred to as an 'elevator reload'. More info in the description about what makes Very Easy PC a unique run.

Jesus, I still get this crap on such an old video, that's been verified and beaten by other runs that are just as broken. Don't watch glitchy speedruns if you're not a fan of them. MGS1 has a no major glitches category.
