  • This video compares the friction properties of Pro-Line Hyrax, Pro-Line Trencher and Pit Bull rock beast tires on different grounds. Tires tested include:
    - Pro-Line Hyrax G8 Rock, 1.9 inch, 45 mm x 120 mm
    - Pro-Line Trencher G8, 1.9 inch, 46 mm x 121 mm
    - Pit Bull RC, PB9011NK Rock Beast XL, 1.9 inch, 43 mm x 120 mm
    Grounds tested include:
    - Carpet
    - Anti-slip (tape) surface
    - dry and wet grass
    - dry and wet stone
    - dry and wet tar
    - ice (frozen water)
    Further information:
    - Sliding was performed with low speed only (0.5 - 2 cm/s)
    - The entire weight of the cart was about 4.17 kg, distributed over 4 wheels
    - In all tires we used the standard foam, as delivered by stock.
    This is part 3 of a trilogy. Part 1 of this trilogy explains the basic aspects of stiction and friction and shows how to determine friction coefficients on different grounds. It also presents the construction of a frame that allows to attach different tires, load it with different weights, and finally measure friction (or stiction) forces on different grounds at different sliding speeds, see here: • How to Measure Frictio...
    Part 2 compares the friction properties of five different sets of tires on different grounds and conditions. Tires tested include the AUSTAR AX-5020, TRAXXAS Trx-4 Defender (stock), MST CFX-W J45 (stock), Gmade MT 1903, and Pitbull RC, PB9011NK rock beast XL. Friction was tested on carpet, anti-slip (tape) surface, dry and wet grass, dry and wet stone, dry and wet tar, and ice (frozen water). Conditions were at different sliding speeds and loads. Great video. I'd love to see more like this. I got into RC crawling a few months ago and I'm really surprised there aren't more videos where they measure the coefficient of friction of various tires. Maybe it's b/c I had to use that coefficient so often during my classes for mechanical engineering, but it just seems like such an easy and obvious thing to test.

      Thank you for your positive feedback. I fully agree with you. There isn’t much out there about measurements. Only some vague and very subjective experiences (or believes).

    Really a great and valuable test !!
    If possible you can extend to JConcept Landmine (really impressive) and Duratrax (Deepwoods and Scaler, also great performers).
    In real patterns also FOAM vs TOTAL WEIGHT is really an important parameter to take in count for global performance.
    Pitbull, for instance, are really sticky out of the box and performs really bad for first set of trips... but after a while change dramatically better their performance.
    Proline has the advantage that performs almost at the best as comes out of the box and after a few hours becomes better, but not so much that before.
    The same is for JConcepts.
    Duratrax still becomes better after some hours of use... if the weight is not to heavy to destroy foam (as happens in one set of scaler to us).
    Thanks for sharing and keep doing this valuable scientific tests (I'm an engineer and appreciate them really much!).

    Nice test. Ich teste aber lieber praxisbezogener. Großes Holzbrett steil an die Hauswand gestellt. Dazu habe noch 2 schräge steile Steinflächen hier. Alternativ das Holzbrett modifizieren mit Kunstrasen/Fließen/Schleifpapier. Wie du am Ende schon sagst, das sind 2 verschiedene Sachen. Das eine ist "nicht runterrutschen im Stand" das andere ist "hochfahren aktiv können". Trencher vs Hyrax wären die seitlichen Kräfte/Fähigkeiten sehr interessant! ("Sidehilling Fähigkeiten"), da das Profil der Hyrax da ziemlich schlecht seien sollte im Vergleich zum Trencher Profil. Danke für deine Arbeit bisher. Grüße

      Ja, stimme Dir zu. Praxisbezogene Tests sind auch sehr wichtig und unverzichtbar, jedoch nur schwieriger zu quantifizieren und zu vergleichen. Die seitlichen Gripeigenschaften wären natürlich auch noch superinteressant! Danke für Dein Feedback!

      @@rcscientific6004 Winkelmessen, zur Not mit dem Handy. Und dann gucken bis zu welchen Grad das Auto noch hochkommt bzw ab wann es umfällt bzw ab wann es seitlich abdriftet. Ein langes Holzbrett glatt, angerauht, mit Teppich...dann kann man schon gute Aussagen treffen. Reifen immer leicht angefahren, nie ganz neu. Temperatur sollte ähnlich sein bei den Test (z.B. innerhalb von 1h im Schatten....)

      @rcscientific6004  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure. Thanks for your comment. My test is not inclusive. It only compares the tires on flat ground, under some kind of „lab conditions“. As you say, they must be tested also on real terrain. But there it is difficult to measure and compare them quantitatively.

    Whats that,is that a joke? This says nothing about the performance crawling on the rocks. I self crawl test the Rock Beast tires and they outperform the hyrax predator easy on most wet and dry surfaces .

    • @rcscientific6004
      @rcscientific6004  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is, what it says: a quantitative analysis of friction, which is one important parameter about tyre performance! It is on well defined surfaces. It does not make a recommendation about crawling. What is your proof? What is your measure? What is a rock, and how rocky or smooth are your rocks? Show me your proof, before you write such an unqualified blabla comment.

    • @montesamapping
      @montesamapping 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In our group we have 30 crawlers with many different high performing tires (Proline, Pitbull, JConcepts, Duratrax, Traxxas, Louise..).
      Is not so easy to define the "better tire over the world"...
      It depends on the EXACT ground kind, condition, pattern... car overall weight... car weight distribution... pendency of the obstacle (some high performing tires, with an extremely high pendency got too deformed and make easy car rollover, while in medium/high pendency are the best).
      I'm an engineer and like crawling as a matter of studying the effect of any parameter on the overall performance with many crawlers ad an hobby (as I study my Trial technique through the years)... I have bought a lot of different tires, because are one of the most important base for getting over the obstacles... and at this moment I can't say "this is the best of all in any situation and for all cars".
      For sure in my experience Pitbull, Proline, JConcept, Duratrax, Traxxas (I think Voodoo, but I couldn't yet get them) are globally the top performing tires, not all "out of the box", not all for the same weight target cars.
      Finally the video explains clearly that "this is a friction test", nothing more, nothing less.
      Tests are a way to understand some behaviour able to TRY to predict the real situations... nothing more, but certainly really important!

      You probably won’t read this reply due to the age of the video. This test was exactly what the title said. It’s good information as all three tires were tested exactly the same way. I’ve been looking for YOUR self crawl test results but can’t find them anywhere on the internet. You ask if this is a joke and the answer is you ka4172 are.
