I love the effort you put in to these videos. 👍 Thank you for taking the time and sharing! Excited to see more from the tires and also the new ones on the way (especially the duratrax/Louise).
Thank you! But we're just getting warmed up. I've been gathering tires and the same metal beadlock wheels for months as we come towards the biggest crawler tire test ever done on TH-cam. Still preparing but it's gonna be yuge!
Depends on the tires and what I had at the time. For my testing I'll be using the foams that came with the tires, as we're trying to test what you get when you buy them. Modifications are a whole extra layer of complexity that need their own testing, I think. I may get to a foam comparison after the tire testing, but that'll likely be next year. Making videos takes a lot of time! The dual stage foams I have here are a combination of cheap INJORA sets, nicer boom racing sets and some other ones from various crawling companies from some years back. The INJORA ones aren't bad but they're heavier than I'd like. The boom racing ones are quite good.
@@RCTNT when you were talking about the BFG Krawlers you said you had dual stage foams in them with firm in the rear and soft up front (I laughed as I typed that) I was wondering where you found dual stage with a firm outter. Or did you mean dual stage soft in front and the solid blueish firm foam in the rear?
@@stalyun8211 oh I see, you're right! They'd be boom racing dual stage, then. That's an oversight on my part that should be fixed for the next series, as I'm going to have stock foams on all tire sets. You can mix and match different foams with hard, medium and soft inner and outer rings. I prefer firmer on the rear for added support on ascents and softer on the front for added traction on the leading wheels. You want a soft outer on both, but a firmer inner on the rear than on the front - at least in my opinion!
incredible testing, thank you so much for putting in the work, cant even imagine how many hours went into this. the success of the trx4 seems like it comes down to the best tire an rtr could have gotten. i am constantly surprised at some of the stuff my defender can get over
Ah, glad you found this! My pleasure :) The Canyon Trails are just amazing eh. Later this year I have a test coming that's more than twice the size of this, as far as 1.9" tire choice goes, plus with more varied testing. I've been preparing for it for 18 months at this point. Filming begins next month. Finally!
Craig, I just put the Pro line Baja Pro X tires on my 1/10 Capra and the old goat now climbs like a young goat. It truly improved the grip and climb over any other tire I have. Thanks for all of your time, expense, camera work and hours of editing, it is truly appreciated!
Thanks Jim. It was, but I've got a bigger one coming with a lot more rubber. Still gathering candidates but I'm going to do a fresh one later in the year. Meanwhile, thanks for watching this! I'm learning stuff too, it's win win!
Thanks! I've done the dry test with the round two tires already, but the trail and wet rock tests are yet to come. That'll be in April, all going to plan. Cheers
You deserve more views. If not for the great content, then for not screaming at me like most of the other YT'bers in this space. Thanks for the content.
Thank you for this review! I live in wet swampy Florida USA and I agree with your results. Proline Krawer 4.75 predator and Traxxas Canyon Trail S1 compound cut and siped are my best performing tires on my 9lb TRX4 and FCX10
Ah thank you for saying so! ...but since this video series I've been buying a lot more tires and wheels. New series is in progress now, eta uncertain as yet but it's coming - and it'll be the biggest 1/10 crawler tire comparison on TH-cam. But in the meantime, I'm really glad my last series was helpful :) Cheers
Thanks Will. I've been accumulating tire sets since this last series ended. I'm going to begin filming the biggest tire comparison on TH-cam for crawler tires this year. It'll be a big job and I've been preparing for it for many months. There'll be more brands and models in this new series and more testing as well :)
I have the Nitto's but I never thought they were any good.but after reviewing your test. I see they are good for wet rocks. As I live in Washington State it is d*** near wet half to the year round so I will throw these bad boys back on and see if they work. Thanks for your reviews!
Aw thanks Dan! If you were my neighbour I'd be only too happy to hang out and drive trucks together :) We'll have to settle for YT instead. Maybe one day I'll build an RC ranch or something, that'd be sweet.
@@RCTNT man!! that would be the dream. It’s everything about the Hobby that I like. I like working on them. I love trying out new things. Although I am limited. And I love being outdoors.
@@danweiss4928 I'll keep putting in extra effort in my videos for you and others like you, my friend. Thank you for following along on this little adventure!
@@RCTNT I am absolutely sure that I am not the only one that appreciates it. I’m in like a weird place where I live for four years I have to travel two hours one way to meet up with other rock crawlers. I cannot find one person in my area. So I’m getting all my grandkids into rock crawling!! I live in the flatlands of Michigan where the best farming in the world is from. But there’s not even a bump lol
@@danweiss4928 ah! I see! I used to joke about making my own friends (ie. kids) to crawl with, but the interest hasn't been there. TH-cam has been a great outlet for it!
Literally epic video Craig! - I had my suspicions about the Canyon Trails being as good as your tests confirm - happy I have 2 sets for my Sport....will literally not be using any other brands on that rig, thanks to your detailed analysis. Modded, I hear they perform even better? Great to hear the BFG Krawlers performed so well also (I have a brand new set sitting in a box, un-used) After this video...they are getting used! Thanks again for the great content and solid work!
I thought about that, and I may do it, but there are some 1/24-dedicated channels that have covered this and I'm not sure I can add to the discussion as well as they have. However, I have a new tire test series coming with as many of the available tires from as many brands as I could get - she's gonna be a big one!
What a humongous undertaking that was! I am amazed of the amount of great info in here! I've seen it a couple of times to be able to digest all the info. If anything, the trail results are maybe the ones I am not taking as critical for making a decision, for as you say, any of the tires here will get you through most trails. Thank you for using the same foams on all compounds, as this would have surely affected results. As stated in previous videos, we can't expect the rims to be also the same [size, offset and more crucially, weight], Now maybe there's an idea. To test how much weight on wheels actually helps on a series of empirical tests as well as driving? Maybe not necessarily as I wrote it, but maybe this can get your brain "transfer" into high-gear for some awesome content in the future! =) Again, thank you for making such thorough testing!
You're welcome and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I'm going to do wheel weight - though if you think it through carefully, I have results for the Sendero with its plastic wheels and also for it with the metal wheels that add 100g/corner. Haven't got them to hand this second! But yes, the TRX4 Sport will get this treatment shortly, when I compare various performance mods one by one and then all together. Coming soon!
After watching all your tire review videos I ended up with the bfg krawlers in the predator compound. Absolutely love these tires in the mud sand and dirt and the soft compound and foam really helps me conforms to surfaces when rock crawling. Thank you for the detailed videos to help me narrow down exactly which tire I should choose
@RCTNT update, I purchased the krawlers in march 2023, now August 2024 they are showing a good amount of wear around the bead. I'm gonna try some glue to get more life out of them but not sure how much more I'll get. When they do eventually tear I'll probably go with g8 compound. If you haven't yet I would definitely recommend checking out the proline maxxis trepadors. I run those alot on my gladiator and have found they're a great all around tire. I cut the foams in a deep but narrow cut about every inch or so and they are phenomenal now. Hope all is going well for you!
Nice, I think I've got a set of those on some wheels here somewhere. I've also been making my own 'foams' with 3D printed TPU. Been trying a few designs, am still testing. But I've had good success with a few very different designs. Thanks for the update. The predator compound does wear fast, doesn't it.
The rc4wd iroc 4.75 surprised me, (seemed to keep up with hyrax) but that was 4 years ago. The proline swampers are one of my favorites for the scale look... But a s far as a small tire that works? 3.93 jconcepts tusk were absolutely incredible. Ridiculous grip.... When they are available anyway
absolutely epic! I never knew the Gmade tires really staked up so well! on a side note - there are some pitbull tires that barely ever get any statistical coverage at all, the rock beast XOR - there are plenty of vids on the XL but barely anything on the XOR despite it's more frequent use in comps, and I'd love to know how what it is that makes them really good (especially since they're the tires I use on my rig).
Interesting. I've had trouble getting much from PitBull for whatever reason. I'd love to do a comparison between compounds, but even the Growlers I used here first AUD$160 shipped, a ludicrous amount compared to the others. Maybe PitBull stock will be replenished in Australia in a couple of months and I can try again, but for now the cost is prohibitive for further PitBull tests - as much as I'd be happy to look into that for you!
@@RCTNT wow they've gotten expensive! I got mine for around $80 AUD (plus shipping) a few years ago - hopefully the stock comes in and price comes down soon! and I can't wait to see future videos comparing the Jconcepts tires, etc... too!
@@didjterminator808 it's more that I'm looking internationally because I couldn't get em locally. I was looking in June and July, hopefully stock changes. I'll check again in a bit.
WOW! What an excellent effort! It's like having the real off-road tyres tested... Well, they a ARE real off-road tyres😄, but you know what I mean 😆. Anyway, I was surprised how Traxxas Canyon RT performed relatively poorly in this comapro. Have you done a value table of average performance to price ratio - you made a point about Pitbull Growlers cost vs your expectations? Solid work! Thank you for sharing. I think I just found my new favorite RC channel to go to, AND, you're on Southern hemisphere - nice to have a different perspective on the hobby too. 👍
I'm so glad you've been enjoying my videos, thanks for your comments today, Mack S :) Canyon RTs did okay still, honestly. For OEMs they're still pretty good, especially when you consider they have more narrow foams, given they're 4.6" tires on 2.2" wheels. There's less space in the tire carcass for foam and less side-wall, so they are very good with that in mind! Haven't done a price to performance comparo yet, but that'll probably be part of my 'biggest on youtube' 1.9" tire test series coming this year. Price will have to be based on recommended retail price in USA, as that will cater to the majority of my viewers, but we southern-hemisphere dwellers should still get something out of it. I'll do my best! Cheers :)
Hi what a deep review into tires for crawlers, just perfect. Due to that content I bought the BFG Krawler and Gmade 1904 with additional beadlocks from gmade, but the whole wheels are not vented or ventilated. Do I have to ventilate or vent the tires for an optimal performance? If yes, whats the best way to do this?Cheers
I often drill a small hole in the beadlock wheel on the inside rim. Two holes if you want to balance it. You absolutely don't have to vent - it can help but you want to be sealed for wet running. Vent for best rock performance, though it isn't critical.
Aw thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I've just started looking at your channel too - there's a heap to check out, I love it at first glance! Very cool. I'll dig in over the next few days :)
I had to wait all day to watch and it was killing me! Stupid job!😜 What an amazing amount of data you've compiled and saved us so much time! Thank you for giving up yours for our entertainment. Keep up the great content, your channel is quickly becoming my favorite on TH-cam. Can't wait to see what's to come. (And by the way I wasn't surprised to see the BFG's come out on top. 30 yrs of them on my 1:1 trucks has proven their quality. )😄
As for the rest of your videos, great content and quality stuff! I do not have as much tires as you, but I have to say the PitBull Rockbeast is a good allrounder. Would have been curious to see it in your review. Hope you will prepare a comparison between the Sendero and GS02F, one of these will be my next ride. Keep up the good work!
I tried really hard to get the rock beasts for this review series but they're out of stock everywhere I looked, or else would have cost nearly usd$160 just to get them here to Aus. I had to give up for now but I'd like to try them at some point when they're available again! You're not the first to ask about sendero vs GS02F! I think that comparison video can be arranged :)
@@bartbbb1046 yeah, it's high, alright! But I'm not complaining, we've still got it pretty good here. I'll keep an eye out and if I can nab a set at some point I'll run them through a quick video.
Long time watcher, first time commenter. Have you considered taking the top 2 and maybe bottom 2 sets of tyres and then trying them on different vehicles? I guess what I’m saying is, you have put all tyres on one vehicle, put one tyre on many vehicles to see if a tyre could be more suited to a configuration. And now you have you rain simulator (watering can) you can do wet and dry. Just a thought……
Jconcept Ruptures or the Trenchers I bet would be the top 2. Maybe the Proline Hydrax as they have the slit nubs.. That's my guess.. I know some aren't on the list but thsts my guess at the intro of this video
Nice guess! I am running Trenchers on my Scale-1 rig, as you may have seen in my current video about the SCX10 III becoming a Scale-1 comp machine. Regarding tires in general, things have changed a bit since this video and I have WAY more tires to test. But I've also been diving into foams, making my own inserts, etc., and what I've learned is that it's nearly impossible to do testing that's useful to others beyond simply an indication. Different tires work better/worse with different inserts/foams and also with different vehicle weights. It's quite a complex topic. I'm still going to try to do a follow-up to these with my huge series, but I'll need to have this discussion as part of that, too. I'll demonstrate by testing the same tires with single and dual stage foam and TPU inserts, and then also on a heavier and lighter car. It'll really show how different things can be with these little changes.
This was really good I want to see you do another one. I want to see how the BFG Krawler 4.75” do against the Proline Toyo open country. I want to see you do a bunch more tires. I bought the Krawlers and I love them!
I have many more sets of tires and I'm nearly ready to do the next big series. I don't have the Toyo Open Country though. I might have to add them to the list!
@@RCTNT I think they would be a decent tire. People always like the big knobby tires but I think the more rubber you have in contact with the ground the better your friction (AKA grip) will be. Knobby is good for grabbing and hooking on to an edge but other then that I don’t think it’s as good. But I could be wrong.
My experience matches that hypothesis, for the most part. There are some exceptions but usually yes, big knobby tires are good in mud but only average on rock.
Thanks, I'm interested to get those onto the course. Been working on getting a few more sets of donuts here for future comparisons! Appreciate the input :)
Heh, I'm really enjoying your videos! You live in an AMAZING place, it's gorgeous! Keep up the great work with the RGT machines and I'll keep doing the boring testing stuff here in Aus, lol. Well, and playing, too - got some more playful vids coming soon as well - but I do seem to have a mountain of tires here now. The only solution is to build more trucks so I can use them all, right? Keep up your great work and I'll catch you on the next vid. Thanks for watching :)
I was doing some of my own simple tests this summer at a skateboard park to see which of all my tires would climb the best on the smooth concrete slopes. (most of which are covered in graffiti making them pretty slick) To my surprise my 5.3" Canyon Trails came in a very close 2nd beating out most of the tires I have bought. For some reason my 4.6" Canyon Trails did not do well coming in close to the bottom. I don't know if it is a byproduct of the mixture of heat and acetone used to remove them off of the stock rims vs just a bit of acetone in a baggy with the 5.3 tires overnight with no heat. I have a new 2021 Bronco arriving in the mail tomorrow so I have a new set of 4.6" CT and will see how they do next summer. Otherwise my number one performer at the skateboard park was a 4.75" Pitt Bull Rock Beast clone tire from Amazon. They are super soft and stick to themselves like glue. Whatever the compound is it works well. I can relate to the effort you have put into the tests you have done after doing my own little test with only 8 sets of tires on a couple of slopes.
Thanks Doug. That's interesting. I also have those Rock Beast clones, though I am not sure I'll feature them in my next tire series. Thinking about whether I want to include clones or not - it's useful to people, but I also don't want to support IP theft. Regarding your 4.6" CT old and new sets, I wonder whether the 'WD-40 in a bag' trick might help for the less grippy set. Happy experimenting - and enjoy your new rig!!
@@RCTNT I have to look that up. I have seen it mentioned before. I have cleaned tires with Simple Green and that seems to make them quite sticky for a while.
Thank you! I have an epic tire test series coming up - biggest on TH-cam. Months of preparation. Will have an answer for you then. Meantime, Proline Trenchers would be my estimation for gravel. For sand, especially if deep, you want the widest, fattest tires you can get with smaller lugs rather than big. Possibly the trenchers are still a good choice here, but I don't know.
Just awesome testing! But I do feel odd about the low dry score of the Krawlers. I have seen them in action and they are definitely on par with the Canyon Trails. I just wonder how can that even be that the Krawlers behave better on wet rocks then they do dry rocks. All other tires are understandably worse on wet rocks. Honestly that doesn't make sense. I feel the orange dot should be closer to -30.
It's a strange one, to be sure. But as I said, I went out and tested with them again because I had the same thought as you! Results were consistent, so, that's what I reported! It's an interesting one.
You ever test trimmed vs. non-trimmed canyon trails? I took the little part out of my center lugs and did nothing else and it totally woke up my canyon trail 2.2s
I have, yes. They'll get their own dedicated video soon. I'm making these as fast as I can but I'm also home schooling during covid lockdown, running the household and working on another business - but it's definitely coming! Cheers :)
Ah nice. I couldn't get the Rock Beasts here at the time for any kind of reasonable price, but I do have Deep Woods mounted here ready for the next tests! Cheers
I've been 3d printing since 2017, in fact. Have played with TPU quite a bit and made my own tires, after something like 13 iterations to get the mix right! I have an unfinished no-foams design I started some years ago. Might get to that, we'll see!
Different compounds, tread and foams (which I haven't tested here, admittedly) add up to big changes! I'm seriously excited to do the next big round of tests. I've spent a silly amount of money on this project and I'm still gathering everything, but you're the first to hear it, right here in this comment, my RC4WD Intimidator has finally arrived after waiting months and months for it. So now we can test traction on a few different surfaces as well as testing crawling and wet/dry conditions. Gonna be good!
@@RCTNT Oh man is that going to be unreal kewl, that thing looks so awesome and scale!!! Get into tractor pulls to test em. I cant wait to see that now!
Hahaha well I can recommend the Cooper STT for rocky ascents and descents, which is about as close to crawling without crawling. I've had quite a few different sets over the years on my Landcruisers and the STT just did not disappoint. Get the tire pressure appropriately low for the terrain and you'll walk up stuff even with open diffs while newer vehicles with better config but lesser tires will be left to lock or winch up. The Micky T Baja Claws are similarly good, if we're comparing off road steep stuff.
No worries! Just be warned, both of those tires get a bit treacherous on road when it's wet, especially once they're worn to under 50% or so. They really are designed for mostly off-road use. I've found the Cooper st-maxx to be a good compromise if you're doing more road than off-road, but still want that sure footed grip on rocks and gravel. But I'm just one guy. Go look for a 4x4 channel or website, I'm sure there's plenty more up to date advice out there :) Enjoy your new ride!
I've made the first of 3 parts but have been low on time to get these done. th-cam.com/video/1yKpTBIdRFw/w-d-xo.html Parts 2 and 3 (trail and wet rock) will be made over April. I'm looking forward to getting them done!
Thanks for doing the tire comparison. I really enjoy watching your videos. I probably missed it, but what foams are you running in all of the tires? I have a Sendero HD that I just bought a set of anti-foams for. I’m wondering if it would be money well spent to buy the G8 Krawler tires as well or to just stick with the stock Element General tires. Thanks!
The foams were all what came with the tires, or where they didn't come with foams, the cheap INJORA dual stage set with medium in rear and soft in front. It's the weakest part of the testing I've done so far - I simply didn't have the energy to change so many sets of tires and foams for the series. I'm hoping to take another run at tire and foam testing, with a broader range and foams will have a part, hopefully! I'd stick with the Grabbers for now. Wear them in a bit. Enjoy them. They're good tires. Certainly, the BFG Krawlers are great, though I haven't tested them in G8 compound. They're bigger, too. Sendero will do well on them, as we've seen in recent tests (there are two videos in the tire test playlist that are relevant: the initial dry tire test, and the 5 Rigs One Tire video where we used the Krawlers on 5 different trucks). No hurry to change the tires, basically. Enjoy the OEM set, they're good.
Hi mate great vid. I found it interesting that the tyres referred to as 1.9 and 2.2 don't show any OD on packaging or website? Can't see on Proline. Is this the case? I did order what I thought were bigger tyres from RC4WD and seems they are same OD but that's ok. Just a bit odd the OD doesn't feature on these websites. Real cars have all dimensions covered. Thoughts?
They do tell you, but sometimes you have to look. RC4WD usually puts it in the product title, while Pro-Line often just lists it in the description. In both cases, the size is almost always on the tire sidewall as well - both OD and width. Example 1 - RC4WD: it's in the description and even in the URL: store.rc4wd.com/rc4wd-mickey-thompson-22-baja-mtz-scale-tires-419.html Example 2 - Pro-Line: it's only in the description: www.prolineracing.com/product/1-10-trencher-g8-front-rear-1.9-rock-crawling-tires-2/PRO1018314.html (second line in Key Features) There's no established standard, not really. The wheel size is the only guide but to get OD and width you usually have to check the description. It's usually listed in Imperial but also sometimes in Metric as well, depending on manufacturer. Boom Racing gives you Metric and Imperial, which folks outside the USA will appreciate.
@RCTNT Mate fantastic answers and thanks for the links and education I'm just setting out and watching heaps of vids. I bought an SCX10III early Ford Bronco and watched a great build series and he added "bigger" tyres and mentioned the names so I've thought the 1.9 he mentioned made them bigger. Turns out they are better compound(RC4wd Interco IROK 4.64x1.84x1.9 according to website. Did you test these in the later vid?
Haven't used those and I don't think I have them. But I'll check now. Nope, sorry. I do have many more ties mounted to wheels now as I prepare to do the biggest crawling tire comparison on TH-cam, dwarfing my last series by a considerable margin. But not this set, sorry! The scx10 III you've chosen is excellent. If you catch my ECCF video from a month or two back, you'll see my SCX10 III JLU that I've converted to a roofless setup getting very close to taking the nationals at the end of March. Vented wheels for the most part. I'm using the same wheels on as many of them as possible and it'll be the same on the upcoming next round with more sets too.
Thanks! I've got more rubber to add to the comparison yet. Got 4 or more sets of wheels mounted up with new tires, ready for the next test. My challenge has been time so far. I don't have plans to specifically do a comparison of tires, mods, foams, etc etc. Too many variables to give something useful, as it really does seem to vary greatly by rig, surface, environmental conditions, etc. Too many variables to test coherently unless I bought 5 or 6 sets of the same tire and compared different things on each set. Actually, that is something I could do. I'll think on it some more. Thanks for weighing in and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers
P.S. Have you had any contact with tires from JConcepts Ruptures and Tusk and Louise CR-CHAMP 1.9? If so what do you think about them? Greetings from Poland
Hey hey, this comes up often for both these tires. I've had trouble getting hold of them for any reasonable money (add 80% of their sale price for shipping and it becomes an unattractive proposition!). Still, I'm going to try to get some of these soon as I have a lot more rubber to test, now. Thanks for bearing with me! I'm keen to get them onto the rocks here. Coming soon (hopefully!!).
@@RCTNT that was fast :D Shipping costs doubling the price is indeed a hassle. I'm just wondering, I will soon have to buy something for my kids models (... and maybe I will benefit from it myself too ;) ). Thanks again for your feedback. Take care
Yep, it was simply too much power for cast gears. I've replaced the power system with a 5-pole 16 turn 540 and a WP-1080 and will run it on 3s. This will ensure they don't blow again!
I never comment on videos but thanks to this test you got your self a subscriber And just a question i have a redcat gen8 on stock tires i only drive on trails both when its dry and wet i never do rock crawl, what tire would you recomend for that driving? Keep up the good work and stay safe Best regards from sweden
Hey Jimmy, thanks for joining me here! Good to have you along for the ride. Honestly, I'd just run the stock tires if only trailing. I don't think it's worth paying more money for better rubber unless you find it lacking in some way. And if you do find it lacking, take a look at my trail video, linked in this video description. It goes over how each of the tires grip on damp dirt, if that's any help! I have another video coming soon where we'll test what difference just adding heavier wheels makes. That might be a good start as wheels are often much cheaper than tires and then even if you do swap your tires later, you can use the better wheels with those too!
Hi again Just fitting some RC4wd irok 1.9 super swampers to some bead lock rims and I noticed the outer lugs sweep back from outside edge of tyre to inside or sweep forward from outside to inside if flipped around. Thing is I can't see any directional info on tyres or on website. Would greatly appreciate any advice. Cheers!
I ran those as my C1 comp rig tire for a year or two. Just mount them in the same direction as any other directional tread, with the forward sweeping lugs on the outer edges of the tires aiming inward on top. // ^ \\ // || \\ I hope that makes sense! You want the lugs pointing forward and inward when you look down at them from the top-down.

Interesting. Nothing wrong with plastic wheels. You can add weight on the axles if you like, there are plenty of trx4 options there. I'll look into those tires, they sound interesting. But the canyon trail tires are truly good, for whatever that's worth!
I think the Capra makes up for a lot. I mean I could put some very bad tires on it from my RCrun 80 series, I bet it'd still do pretty well. The chyraxes aren't too bad, especially on the trail.

They're broken in by now, Travis, absolutely! (They do get better with use, like most rubber, that's a good point worth mentioning. Thanks for that). They're still not quite as good as the Canyon Trails, but they are fabulous for OEMs! (And you got a brilliant deal, that's amazing! Nice one!!)

That's what I tried to do over the 3 videos. You're safe with Proline Predator compound in whatever tread you prefer. I've got a few more coming (jconcepts, RC4WD, duratrax) but from what I've tested so far, the best thing to do is see the chart at the end of the video. This gives a breakdown of performance over different terrains. Cheers
How can you "test" all these tires, without using the proper FOAMS for each tire compound !!??? And not "declare" what foams are in each set of tires ?? - So, without knowing that variable, how can you say which tire set(s) (per"formed") BEST !!!???? I would say, one "could" appreciate your efforts, but with no idea what FOAMS are in the tires, how can we agree with your "results" !!??? Although, good effort !! And "maybe" some people can pull results from this !?? Plus it depends on weight distribution and weight load of each tire. So foams are very important here !!! No way to tell without at least one "control" !!! 🤔...
Sure, that's fair. I did say it was indicative and definitely not scientific, but hopefully there's still something to draw from it. For what it's worth, the same dual stage INJORA soft fonts and firm rears are in 4 of the tires (the Krawlers, Hyrax, Hyrax clones and the Proline super swamper 4.75). The stock foams are on all the OEM tires from each of the rigs (nitto grapplers, canyon trails, canyon tr, general grabber, mt-1904, irok sswampers), the standard mfr foams are in those tires that shipped with them (Proline sswampers 4.3", PitBull growlers). I used the same wheels on 4 of the sets and soon will expand that to being on 8. The other metal wheels all weigh a similar amount so it is close enough for my testing here. However, there are plastic wheels on several still: nitto grappler, mt-1904, canyon rt, irok sswampers. You do make a good point in that I could have shown the weight of each tire and wheel set and noted the foams, or at least standardised them all (though the cost and complexity quickly multiplies when we're covering so many sets!) All this being said, I chose my words carefully in the video. "From this test" and "on my course with this equipment" and "this is indicative" and "unscientific but hopefully still helpful", etc. I've been doing the channel for just over 3 months. I have many more tests planned and we're going to be able to get increasingly precise with test parameters as we go. All videos here are provided free of charge for your entertainment. Your constructive criticism is heard and acknowledged, but in exchange I ask you be patient and to remember I don't ask you to agree with my results - I'm going to keep working away on this stuff and we'll see where we end up. OK, enough talk, back to the serious business of playing with toy trucks! :)
lol sure is a lot of tire companies . lol all made in one spot , so make sure you pay a fortune for your ptolines, they cost as much as a new set of tires for my ford toarus. its rc but go ahead fools

Thank you 👍
I love the effort you put in to these videos. 👍 Thank you for taking the time and sharing! Excited to see more from the tires and also the new ones on the way (especially the duratrax/Louise).
man. what a test. you really tested these tires. unbiased opinions are the best. Great job!
Thank you!
But we're just getting warmed up. I've been gathering tires and the same metal beadlock wheels for months as we come towards the biggest crawler tire test ever done on TH-cam. Still preparing but it's gonna be yuge!
where are you finding the dual stage firm outer foams for rear?
My pleasure :)
The Canyon Trails are just amazing eh.
Oh sweet! I've got those here, ready for this year's even bigger test series. Glad you like them! And you're welcome :)
Jeepers that must have been at *lot* of work. Thank you
Thanks Jim. It was, but I've got a bigger one coming with a lot more rubber. Still gathering candidates but I'm going to do a fresh one later in the year. Meanwhile, thanks for watching this! I'm learning stuff too, it's win win!

@@RCTNT Right...?!
Thank you for this review! I live in wet swampy Florida USA and I agree with your results. Proline Krawer 4.75 predator and Traxxas Canyon Trail S1 compound cut and siped are my best performing tires on my 9lb TRX4 and FCX10
Both excellent tires and I still rate them, even with many more here now! Cheers
By far the best tire comparison I've seen. Excellent work!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :)
10 out of 10. You did the work for us and for sure no one els has saved the money and time you did. Hope you get well rewarded for this 😎💪
Ah thank you for saying so!
...but since this video series I've been buying a lot more tires and wheels. New series is in progress now, eta uncertain as yet but it's coming - and it'll be the biggest 1/10 crawler tire comparison on TH-cam.
But in the meantime, I'm really glad my last series was helpful :) Cheers
I absolutely love the Jconcept The Holds for trailing.. awesome tire.
For dry rock, Ruptures are wicked.
I like Ruptures too, but like Hyrax, they struggle a bit more in the wet. Haven't use a set of The Hold yet. Probably should! Cheers
Wow, this is your best video I have seen. Well done, I bet that took a long time. Thank you
Thanks! I'm doing a series now with 3x the tires, it's been a while coming!
Awesome video. Thank you for all your effort in the tests. Of course I’d love to see more of other brands but happy with whatever you can manage
Oh nice, hope you find they work for you. I've discussed these with others and the consensus seems to be they need time to wear in, too. Cheers
Love coming back to watch your tire videos. Time to do an RC tire foam shoot out. Cheap vs expensive Proline inserts🤔🥰
I may do that. Big tire series to get through first but yeah, I can see that would be broadly useful to a lot of folks.
Very very very good testing. Thanks!
Hey thanks, my pleasure! Even bigger one coming, but still accumulating parts!
This is such a valuable Channel. Every night I sit down and watch one of your videos. I just wish that was your neighbor thanks for the info.
Aw thanks Dan! If you were my neighbour I'd be only too happy to hang out and drive trucks together :)
We'll have to settle for YT instead. Maybe one day I'll build an RC ranch or something, that'd be sweet.

Thanks Mark, that's real nice to hear.
There's a Canyon Trail Mod & Test video in the works, yep! It'll be detailed, too. Stay tuned :)
And now Micro Crawlertire test! My favorites RC4WD Mud Slingers and Injora Rock Terrains!
I thought about that, and I may do it, but there are some 1/24-dedicated channels that have covered this and I'm not sure I can add to the discussion as well as they have. However, I have a new tire test series coming with as many of the available tires from as many brands as I could get - she's gonna be a big one!
Wow amazing and such hard work put into this dude! Very well done
Thank you :)
i really enjoyed your vids, this and the other tow comparison.
Another great tire test, great content and quality/info. Thanks.
Again, thank you for making such thorough testing!
Hey that's great! They're very good and I'm glad you're enjoying them. Thanks for letting me know :)
Oh yeah? Haven't got them yet, I'll look into it. Thanks!
Great Job awesome Tire Test!!! Love the love your math & 🧮. Epic Job... 🤜🤛👍👊...
wow the stock trx4 tires are really good !
I was surprised too!
Great video 🙏
I really love the Hyrax in the dry on my trx4 with the two stage foams. But they lose a bunch of performance in the wet. Great video though! Thanks
P.s. Love the data and visualizations of it, too!
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback.
absolutely epic!
@@RCTNT
wow they've gotten expensive!
@@RCTNT cool!
I'm so glad you've been enjoying my videos, thanks for your comments today, Mack S :)
Canyon RTs did okay still, honestly.
@@RCTNT thanks a lot

@@RCTNT Wow! 160 USD is a crazy amount of money for 4 tires. Shipping cost become insane these days.

Definitely something to think about, yeah! Thanks, Simon.
Thankyou very helpful 👍
Glad it was helpful! I've got many, many more sets to do a more in-depth comparison, coming this year, too :)
Lol so many tires, thanks for doing this
Predicting axial nitto last before I even watch!!

I have cleaned tires with Simple Green and that seems to make them quite sticky for a while.
very nice test in the real word
do you know a good tyre for loose sand and gravel ?
or do you have a video for that ?
@@RCTNT
Ok thank you
I really The proline BFgoodrich crawler 1.9 it looks realistic and i think performs very well on all surfaces
Great tires, yes! I like it too
Just awesome testing!
Cheers :)
I wish you had some Jconcept tires. I like them much better the any proline tire
I've got them now. They'll be in the next round
I make my best experience with Pit Bull Rock Beast and Louise Champ (Deep Woods) because my trails are wild water brooks with realy slippery rocks.
Ah nice. I couldn't get the Rock Beasts here at the time for any kind of reasonable price, but I do have Deep Woods mounted here ready for the next tests! Cheers
Now you have a 3d printer have you thought about printing tire inserts? The new anti foams look good.
I've been 3d printing since 2017, in fact. Have played with TPU quite a bit and made my own tires, after something like 13 iterations to get the mix right!
I have an unfinished no-foams design I started some years ago. Might get to that, we'll see!
@RCTNT Nice one! Now you've got me looking at printers, when will this ever end! 😅
Lol, it's like crawlers. It doesn't.

@@RCTNT No worries man, just found your channel so Im in no hurry :) Lots of vids to watch here!
Great, now can you do the review for these tires in a 35 inch size? I got a jeep that I am looking for new tires for.
SchweeeeeTTTTTT!!!! thanks!!!! lol.
Go look for a 4x4 channel or website, I'm sure there's plenty more up to date advice out there :)
Enjoy your new ride!
Have you made an update video on new tires yet?
I've made the first of 3 parts but have been low on time to get these done. th-cam.com/video/1yKpTBIdRFw/w-d-xo.html
Parts 2 and 3 (trail and wet rock) will be made over April.
Example 1 - RC4WD: it's in the description and even in the URL: store.rc4wd.com/rc4wd-mickey-thompson-22-baja-mtz-scale-tires-419.html
Example 2 - Pro-Line: it's only in the description: www.prolineracing.com/product/1-10-trencher-g8-front-rear-1.9-rock-crawling-tires-2/PRO1018314.html (second line in Key Features)
There's no established standard, not really.
Just scraped out into 2nd, it was a close one! This is a super capable platform and mine is largely in stock form. I'm quite sure you'll get a lot out of yours, they're a great rig :) cheers
@RCTNT Fantastic cheers mate I've also got an Ecto Black ordered with the Hobbywing Quicrun fushion SE 1800KV. Looking forward to all future vids I really love your presentation style you are very much appreciated, great therapy :))
Oh sweet, that's gonna go well! Good pairing.
Thanks for the feedback and positivity 🙂 Very much appreciated!
Very interesting. Are you running the tyres on vented rims, or have you vented the tyres themselves?
Vented wheels for the most part. I'm using the same wheels on as many of them as possible and it'll be the same on the upcoming next round with more sets too.
Epic :)
Have you thought about taking the top 3 and seeing what foams, tire sauce, weights, and siping would do? There is so much good info in this video.
@@RCTNT that was fast :D
Shipping costs doubling the price is indeed a hassle. I'm just wondering, I will soon have to buy something for my kids models (... and maybe I will benefit from it myself too ;) ). Thanks again for your feedback. Take care
Did you find out yet what happened to the BOM front diff?
Yep, it was simply too much power for cast gears. I've replaced the power system with a 5-pole 16 turn 540 and a WP-1080 and will run it on 3s. This will ensure they don't blow again!
I never comment on videos but thanks to this test you got your self a subscriber
And just a question i have a redcat gen8 on stock tires i only drive on trails both when its dry and wet i never do rock crawl, what tire would you recomend for that driving?
Keep up the good work and stay safe
Best regards from sweden
Hi again
Just fitting some RC4wd irok 1.9 super swampers to some bead lock rims and I noticed the outer lugs sweep back from outside edge of tyre to inside or sweep forward from outside to inside if flipped around.
// ^ \\
// || \\
I hope that makes sense! You want the lugs pointing forward and inward when you look down at them from the top-down.
@@RCTNT Thanks so much. Makes sense as that will direct mud outwards to clear the tread. Good to know they are a performer. Cheers again
Have you ever tested the gmade g air tires
I haven't, but I might do! Thanks for the idea, I'll look into it.
@@RCTNT I just ordered my 1st truck I got the TRX4 that comes with tracks and right now comes with the traxxas stock tires so I was looking at Possible future tires when those wear out the concept of the g air seems interesting but you don't see much about them because the wheels are plastic
Interesting. Nothing wrong with plastic wheels. You can add weight on the axles if you like, there are plenty of trx4 options there. I'll look into those tires, they sound interesting.
But the canyon trail tires are truly good, for whatever that's worth!
Did you do a test lately ?
I didn't, but it's in the works
I had chyraxs on my Capra for a while. They worked pretty good imo. But maybe the capra is just that good 🤷♂️
I think the Capra makes up for a lot. I mean I could put some very bad tires on it from my RCrun 80 series, I bet it'd still do pretty well.
The chyraxes aren't too bad, especially on the trail.
@@RCTNT I have since installed the 1.9 TSL XL, I feel like it'll be unstoppable 😂
@@jeeplivion lol pretty much, yes! Enjoy :)
No duratrax tyres 🤔?
They're now here and will be in the next comparison, coming soon!
@@RCTNT am getting some this week, 🤔,,my model shop recommended them to me, as have just brought fs racing reely crawler,,apparently axial scx 10 ii clone 🤔,,stock tyres are alright,,but not to gripy on steep wet wood 😅,,fs racing is popular in Aussie,,I also have fs racing marauder,,I called my lazernut copy 😅😅 I have completely upgraded her ,,have a look at my vids on her 🤔,,fs racing brand not to popular in pom land, 😅😅
@@bernardrc1137 I see! Well, the duratrax tyres have many fans so I'm looking forward to seeing what these can do. That video is coming soon.
I haven't heard of fs racing before, I'll check it out. Enjoy your new ride!

@@bernardrc1137 well I live under a rock, don't have a TV, don't even really watch TH-cam much, so I'm probably not representative.
There is plenty of RGT gear getting around here in Oz though, I can say that much!
So what’s the winner of all?
I covered it in the video with the charts and data, all in the second half. There were several stand out tires - anything with a good combined score is a good option. If you want me to say just one set, I guess the Proline BFG Krawlers in predator compound are pretty good.
@@RCTNT I started watching it at work and was told to out my phone away and couldn’t finish it 🙄sorry
Lol you really should finish it, the value in all three test videos in the series comes together in the last section of this video.
Just maybe wait until you're off work to do it!
allow the trx6 tires to break in..I picked up 6 of them for 40 bucks from a chop shop
Nice one!!)
What rims are those
Mostly these

Can u tell me what rims are those on the proline bfg
@Disney_fn I'm pretty sure it's the ones I've linked.
It's been a while but if it isn't those, it'll be these

Please recommend the best tire. The video is very good. Thank you. Subscribe and like.
Cheers
Stock sized tiny tires bro
I kept it reasonably standard in that series for more broad appeal to punters looking for an upgrade, yeah.
How can you "test" all these tires, without using the proper FOAMS for each tire compound !!??? And not "declare" what foams are in each set of tires ??
- So, without knowing that variable, how can you say which tire set(s)
(per"formed") BEST !!!????
You do make a good point in that I could have shown the weight of each tire and wheel set and noted the foams, or at least standardised them all (though the cost and complexity quickly multiplies when we're covering so many sets!)
All this being said, I chose my words carefully in the video.
400th like😁
lol sure is a lot of tire companies . lol all made in one spot , so make sure you pay a fortune for your ptolines, they cost as much as a new set of tires for my ford toarus. its rc but go ahead fools
