Kia EV9 2024 review: New 7-seat electric car will make you think twice about that Toyota LandCruiser

  • The 2024 Kia EV9 has finally arrived in Australia. The upper-large SUV is yet another all-electric vehicle (EV), but it holds the distinction of being one of now only three zero-emissions seven-seaters on the market. Point being, it has a head-start on its competition, which is expected to come thick and fast.
    Following in the tyre tracks of the mid-size Kia EV6, the EV9 supersizes the South Korean brand's emerging EV line-up with a model that brings a boxy but futuristic design language, as well as three-row practicality. It also has a relatively broad line-up of three variants that should help it appeal to a wider audience.
    In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Andrew Chesterton puts the new Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series rival's entry-level Air and flagship GT-Line variants to test to find out if they've been worth waiting for.

    We need to ditch the luxury car tax. The price of these is being driven up by an unecessary tax put in place to protect local manufacturing which no longer exists.

    Given that it is essentially a mini van, I am surprised that KIA didn't give it rear sliding doors.

    people here are saying that EV9 is too expensive. But the truth is that EV9 is bargain. EV9 is luxurious model. If European makers release EV that exaclty same as EV9, they price it like 200k . Because they can't build EV like EV9 in price of 90k. EV9 is the most superior EV SUV in that price range.

    Nice presentation 👍- it would be nice during the test drive you actually loaded the vehicle with 2 adults, 3 mid teenagers plus some luggage boot ( or maybe a few extra teenagers ) - giving a real life expectation driving along country roads and steep hill climbing- this would give the viewer a better understanding on real life expectations and the range of travel - showing it true colours 🙃 - look forward to a possible presentation in this way 🧐

    What’s the battery chemistry? How much energy does it require to fully charge the battery? And how can you really call it “zero emissions”?

      Hey mate, zero emissions relates to the fact that the car doesn’t emit any tailpipe emissions. Hope this helps.

    This looks like a great car... but what % of the population has 100k to spend on a car? And if I had 100k would kia be on my radar at all?

      Probably more than you realise. Take for example the Hyundai Palisade which for all intents and purposes is the diesel equivalent to this. The top trim is 88k and i see them everywhere.

    Kia how about shrinking the car 1/2 size to make the vehicle more usable? bench seats front and rear for six passengers seat? by reducing that giant 22 inch wheel to 16 inch wheel the vehicle can be more space efficient and energy efficient. Nice design just needs it to smaller.

      range of EV can be estimated easily with just simple calculation with values of motor power and battery capacity.

    • @starfirenuclear
      @starfirenuclear 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shanea9613 that's what I'm saying. Electric mileage in EV is very straight forward and very predictable close to real world unlike ICE.
      If you already have EV in your life, you must have your own data that fits on your enviornment where you live. You may know your own every day electric mileage of your EV (this have to be your own data becasue your enviornment may differs from others like more hills,more colder, more plains and etc) and value of motor power and battery capacity and mean speed you drive. Make your own equation with your datas and plug in motor power and battery capacity values of EV9. than you will get estimated value. Very simple.

    • @starfirenuclear
      @starfirenuclear 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shanea9613 do not approach to EV with the way how you approach to ICE. Because in ICE, when you comparing two cars which having same volumes and numbers of cylinder in those two engines, gas mileage may different according to engine technologies. this is becasue engines are very unstable no matter how engine tech develops. But in EV, it's very stable locomotive system unlike ICE. So it's very predictive once you know values of motor power and battery capacities.

    • @starfirenuclear
      @starfirenuclear 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      so when you decide wich EV is better, instead of electric mileage, you should see whether it's using NCM or LFP. NCM is better. Because in LFP's electric mileage gets shorter compare to NCM when two batteries are put in same electric capacities.
      And NCM is also better than LFP in the sense of C-rate.
      And search for which platform EV makers use. Because this implies level of BMS technologies of each makers. Currently, Hyunai/Kia's E-GMP is the most advanced platform in the market.

    Nice idea but it’s too heavy, no environmental advantage over an equivalent ICE vehicle and it’s too expensive
    Styling is overdone as well

    • @starfirenuclear
      @starfirenuclear 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      no. EV have huge advantage on environment. Both EV and ICE are not environmentally friendly in manufacturing. But during usage, EV is way more environemtnally friendly than ICE. Because for ICE, engine efficiency is only about 20%. Which means only about 20% of chemical energies in gasoline in gas tank are being converted to kinetic energy while 80% of gasolin chemical energies in gas tank are wasted in heat energy.... So ICE wastes so much energies.
      And it also costs energies to allocate gasolines to each gas stations which is not energy efficient and not environmentally friendly at all... While in EV, when you plug your car, electricity directly transfer from powerplant into your car through wires.
      And ICE do not have potential in renewable evergies while EV have potential. Even if renewable energies are increased, it does not help on running ICE at all.
      And while ICE spits out CO2 and NOx directly to atmosphere, in the case of EV gets electricities from thermal powerplant, all thermal powerplants do not release CO2 directly to atmosphere in nowadays. They capture CO2 and burry in under ground. So EV is much more friednly to environment.
      And most of EV are being charged duirng night time. Normally, electricities are wasted during night time because people don't use electricities as they are in day time. Because powerplant do not shut down during night times. It keep runs and make electricities even though people don't use it. So people dring EV make our civilizations to use electricities frugaly.
