5:34 - Team Potato PC here! My extra advice on that one would be to look at old CG films (Toy Story, Shrek, etc). They hold up super well and they're great inspiration on how to get a cinematic look with very simple pre-raytraced images. My thinking is that if they could produce awesome images back then, then I can sure give it a go with my 7 year old PC using Eevee.
3:57 life hack for my fellow procrastinators for whom the important tasks seem daunting and insurmountable: Split the big tasks into smaller, manageable tasks. That way you can get important stuff done while still getting that little checkbox dopamine rush 👍
You actually have something in common with me! I wanted to make games but failed at that. I wanted to animate. I got into it. Then I failed. I found Blender, or blender found me. But it looked to complicated for my taste. Over time I stuck with animating and kinda wanted to make a game still and had so many ideas and even a story! But I didn’t know how to start. Years go by and now I’m doing 3D animation. Note I started like 4 or 5days ago and I’m posting progress videos. I’m actually making a Sonic animation! But i so far am really into blender! Who knows I might even make a game. 🤷🏻
All fantastic advice! Over the years, I’ve also found that becoming a better artist has had less to do with my technical or artistic skill and more with how I approach creative projects. It’s about the creative process, avoiding perfectionism, and staying true to the emotions behind what I’m creating. The closer my inspirations and workflow stay to the core emotions that drive me and the experiences I want to convey through my art, the more likely I am to finish.
I just want to thank you for your usual advice, this is the video I was needing to continue. Sometimes we lose our way and its difficult for us to stay on the path, but thanks to people like you we can continue dreaming. Greetings from Argentina! 🇦🇷
Man, when you brought up the impostor syndrom stuff up, I teared up. I've dealt with this since forever and I probably have dysthymia (getting checked on it). It's hard getting things done even tho I have the capability to learn and understand what I want to actually do. A few months ago, I swore to myself that I was going to make my own game, even tho it's probably going to take me like, around 5 years or so to have a stable prototype, and I'm aware of that. It's just hard setting little goals for me in between, but this is what I need to do. Little steps, moving closer to my dream. Thanks for making this video, and thanks for your channel. I'm glad I found out about you, I love your work.
My main issue is learning new tricks, deciding I can implement that trick in my projects, and so I keep going back and revising and never getting to the end
I struggle with making lists and planning out projects, is there something you recommend that can help this or should I just start now and get perfect later?
Excuse my language!!! but your a fucken hero and a legend you aspire me and many others out there to not stop and keep trying no matter what , thank you.
I have such high aspirations and I always get disheartened when I can’t get there. I’m my own worst critic. There’s some good tips in here, but my takeaway is this: if you want to design and build a Ferrari, start off by building a peddle-kart. When you’ve done that, try a cart with a lawn mower engine. Then a cart with suspension… don’t start by stitching the leather gear-shift cover. Yes that was all metaphors! 😂😂
It’s crazy to see this video right now. I’m a video editor that in 2020 went hard in blender and fell in love, tho at this moment I’m unable to finish any of the projects I’ve started. Like all 10,000 of them. Just yesterday I actually rendered out a scene for the first time in yearssss.
That's an important topic, not only for animators but for creators in general. I'm the 95% type, I always think the project is never good enough, that I need to improve something, but this never ends and I end up leaving the project.
I thought i was the 95% type, but I’m actually a new type. I get to 55% then I start changing stuff and go backwards and forwards, never really getting past 55% 😂😂😂😂
My biggest struggle is getting my Armature to work. I'm actually working on a group collab for a 2D feature. I have my model in T Pose but for some reason when I bend at the waist the Eyes stretch from the center and it looks like Tex Avery's Wolf. I figure it is a weight painting issue and my model isn't all one mesh. I just can't seem to gets past it. It's only for storyboard and artists reference but either way, I really want to nail this.
Programmers/Coders have this saying called "tutorial hell" I think it applies just as much to people trying to learn art as well nice Video Shotty P.S Grow your beard back please, you look like an off-brand Tom hardy 😭🙏
I'm definitely the not getting past the firs 5% guy. I just have so much to learn with animation, rigging, lighting, creating environments, etc, etc... and it gets overwhelming that I just end up procrastinating.
I should mention that the short mentioned below is about a woman's right to choose and what can happen when it's take away. It could be triggering for some people.
big reason to fail at doing big project is making something higher then your abilities "knowledge/skills, hardware..." no discipline and not treating it as a business if you think you are gonna make money with. many more here are the big ones
I can't even begin to imagine how much I'd struggle to finish a whole shortfilm. Honestly, props to you.
Thanks!

Thanks! I’ve been watching your content for a year while putzing with a blender project I never finished. You’re right about perfection!
Please make a tutorial on how to stop watching tutorials 😂😂😂
Thats kinda what this video is lol
@@howedaddy6122 I just saw the title and made the comment first, just a joke man 😂🤣

i hope you're okay and that you're getting enough rest 💪
If I just making something for myself I’m team 5%, if I’m forced to push through it has to be done at 95%😢
I enjoy have more then one project going at a time, because it helps me never get creative block. But that's just me.
