Im so glad hozier finally found the opportunity to teach us about film making
my thoughts exactly 😂😂
i was just about to comment "thanks hozier" before seeing ur comment
literally my first thought
i thought that was george harrison
Take me to Shoottt..
the reflection shots on the map go CRAZYYYYY
Not as crazy as a doc in Switzerland 🇨🇭 👀
Those shots are sick
I think some sound design, like ambience in the background of the station, some additional breathing sounds, walking, in-depth sound design and folio really would take it to the next level!
deff, along w music change too
i think looking at the motive of the video. the sound design is quite alright, giving a sense of being cut out of the world...drunk.
@@paullovesart i see what you are saying, but then maybe doing them muffled could be the move
and maybe also more experimenting with the different lenses of the iphone and try other shutter speeds.
Shibuya arc!?
Y’all are missing the point? They said your filmmaking sucks. NOT YOUR BUDGET. they weren’t suggesting that you only used the newest iPhone. That’s just what they used. They actually gave a lot of good tips of filming in general no matter what phone or device you have
Are we still surprised by internet people stupidity ?
I’d just ignore it if I was you, people will complain and act ignorant towards anything nowadays.
@@Axiassartyou got that right
I deeply appreciate seeing this process and reminding myself that I don't need 6k to 10k to shoot something nice.
Very true. I was thinking same thing!!
It was a good reminder even for me
Honestly the bts vibe for this video is so relatable. That improvising on the spot and trying to decide how to light something... It really reminds me of my no budge sets ive been on. Love it!
Great clip. The key to this is that you actually KNOW what you bare doing. Every shot is part of a plan and has an internal idea. That will always give an edge. "Shallow DOF" and "Cinematic" is nothing. The thinking behind what is going on and what is showed in the scene is what makes it work.
Small thing I learned from this. Make up isn’t just an aesthetic. It can be an active member of the scene. The bandages never bothered her a bit, they just passively sat on her face. Also, there’s a bit of a disconnect between shot selection. The wide and escalator shots are on sticks and the actor’s expression in them is a 4-5 on a level of disorientation, and ends on a movement (her walking out of frame). We jump to her not moving and appearing more drunk than she was in the previous shot, and then to her looking more panicked than drunk in next shot. Similarly, the camera angles and movement aren’t telling the same narrative. The steadiness of the opening shots and then jumping into handheld split the narrative in 2 emotions, and the acting discrepancies divides that even further. It was a tad difficult to grasp what I was looking at without actually being told that she’s suppose to be drunk. Things I liked… haha..the footage, and makeup looks great! And you guys did a phenomenal job for 2-4 people. Thank you for putting this out and making us all better. ❤
I am an aspiring filmmaker in youtube and this really helps! even with the knowledge I have gathered now, there really is pretty much so many to learn, I think all it needs is just a fine line between being able to finish creating something and still learning from the experience. Great video anyways!
That was beautiful! This lost and drunk sequence was done so well it conveyed the right emotions.
great results with this small setup👍🏻I like her reflection in the glas when she looks at the plan, this shot is amazing👌🏻
Absolutely loved this. So simple yet so informative! would love to see more bts like this ❤
Excellent video, it shows indeed that not the budget of the equipment is important but rather the skills and the post production afterwards.
And it shows that german train stations are indeed a nightmare for tourists.
So adorable when she said "I'm Megan" and everyone knows it. LOL. Love it.
Awesome job Brady! Those Smallrig lights are so epic I always bring them with me everywhere I go.
Hey master thank you!! Yeah they’re super compact and come in handy a lot
Seeing both of you in one video makes my heart skip a beat ♥️♥️♥️ Im so happy for this collab
Yep. Looks like a film shot on a smartphone to me :D
exactly 😄🙌
I agree it has its phone-ness, but I’ve shot on previous phones and never been able to get this much flexibility. So for those with ONLY a phone, it’s a big jump. And all to say this was just a fun experiment
Well said!@@BradyBessette
Incredible dude. Skill > gear, money, and resources. You made beautiful shots with the simplest setups
this is so good, was really dope to see your process with just a light and an Iphone in general
Dude. Way to nail it. I liked seeing and hearing your thought processes. Extremely helpful.
ahh the final sequence was so good! ty for a helpful & inspiring tutorial!
Very wkw with the music and jump cuts
This is such a cool video, and I love your cinematic vlog style!
You guys both killed it!!! Such a fun time 🥳
Awesome video. Great explanation of the decisions made while filming. Bravo 🤝
I love these BTS videos. It inspires me to go out and shoot. I also have that SmallRig light and the iPhone 15 Pro. I'll probably pick up a couple more of those lights. Thanks, Brady.
Yoo this came out great!
Thanks for bringing me out to film with you guys :)
The iPhone 15 footage cmobined with your LUTs is looking great ❤
Hey Florian you’re awesome. Thank you for helping bring this video to life!
Looking Great! 🤩
I looooove the little moment of “clarity” that the reflection shot adds to the “drunken” sequence. This is absolutely incredible, thanks for showing us the ropes! 💪🏽💕
This is great! I can’t wait to document my colour grading journey 😁
I loved this, esp the reflection shot!! Thanks again
Thank you!!
Super cool shots and BTS.
Well done! Thank you for the behind-the-scenes look and very useful how-to information. I'm not an Apple guy, but I just upgraded my Samsung. Videos like this take away my excuses for not doing more projects.
its much more sense to buy a proper camera than buying an expensive phone to say 'budget filmaking'
underrated comment
guess it's assuming that most people already got an iphone or equivalent
do you have a phone or do you not have a phone?
everyone watching this video has a phone, not wveryone watching thus video has a camera
@@baconheadhair6938 yes but his point is that the phone he is shooting on costs as much as some very good cameras do.
Fantastic video thank you! also love that small rig light. Super good value!
its amazing what you can create these days with very little gear, and the project looked really fun to shoot!!!
awesome video, you used what you had to the most you can out of it, gave me a broader perspective on film making
That was a great sequence! I actually went and shot some footage today for something I’m working on.
Bro this video is awesome! Amazing work!
Yoooo. Thank you bro
You could get a ZV-E10, kit lens and a whole set of vintage glass for the price of an iPhone
Yes, but most people don't have a ZV-E10 lying around. Most people do have some smartphone.
@@crufilmsmost smartphones that people have don’t come close to iPhone level. personally, I’ll be getting a ZV-E10 because I’d rather get that than upgrade my shitty smartphone to an iPhone
How amazing and how much fun to shoot with such a simple portable setup. Lately I am finding myself willing to experimenting with lighter setups too as it leaves so much room for improvisation and fun
It was interesting the different edits between you and Megan! Fun shoot!
Thank you so much! Super fun
AMAZING, i do believe you can achieve this almost if not same on any flagship
if you change the sound/audio, it will be for the better I think. Doesn't match in my opinion. But like the light :-D
Agreed
Yeah same. I wasn't crazy about the final video but I realized it might've just been the music.
For me it's the escalator shot, I love how it's framed to cut into the character when she reaches the top. One of my loves in filmmaking is capturing the texture of things, I would have approached it with a little more focus on the grooves of the steps.
this was great! def inspiring stuff to do when you got a small crew of people to help you out. im always looking for ways to make the video content more cinematic.
that small rig looks dope to ad to the rig.
Absolutely awesome!
Recently got the iphone 15 pro for smartphone filmmaking and Apple Log makes a huge difference! Great job on the lighting as usual! : )
Hey hey! Thanks a ton, it’s impressive really
Don’t sleep on cinematic mode for some shots. I found a mixing them adds that much more 👍🏼
Interesting! I will explore cinematic mode some more.@@Richard_Leon
Megan is FAB!! Brady hope you you guys can do.more iPhone videos. That was excellent,
I think that the reason because the reflection shot stands out more, as you said, is bc is given a motivation for the light source. All the others felt like, well… if someone was hanging a light on her face… So hard to sell a light this small and this close as if it was a real source.
The closest you are the more you percive its decay and the faker it feel.
love this video Brady! so so good!
Heyoo thank you king
as a fan of you both, im super glad to see this crossover
That means a ton! It was a fun shoot
the combo we needed
As always, a pleasure professor Brady!
Best iPhone cinematic I’ve seen so far 🙏🔥
You officially have the best results from an iPhone yet. Crazy.
That’s a lie I know you are already finding a way to put your blazars on an iPhone I can feel it
Ah so fun, love it!
Nice! I dig those lil small rig fixtures! Great vid as always. :)
Hiya Steve! Thanks for stopping by as always
Of course!! 😁
I love it !!! Future film makers .. this is how it gets done
I do agree 100%. If you have a good eye for lighting and angles, it doesn't matter which gear you're using. Just a few professional or highly amateur filmmakers say, "Nah, it's not a good camera, lighting..." But if you achieve production company levels, viewers won't notice which camera or gears they're using. Just learn basics of composition, Lighting, camera settings, editing, step by step and enjoy the your creativity at the sametime.
Great video!! Thank you ❤
Great video. Just one detail tho, you should specify that you are using the iphone 15 PRO and not the regular 15. The difference in camera setup between the two is massive. The 15 Pro has all the cinematic bells and whistle: Bigger sensor, ProRes, Apple log etc.. So far I've never seen any creator who makes camera content with the regular 15.
beautiful work 👏
Me watching this with my beat up android, I'm cooked no hope for me☠️
Nice collab and great job!
The video started and the first thing come to my mind is the Hozier video singing on the subway. You look so similar.
Good video btw.
I love this. I film from my S21 Ultra and S23 Ultra with some Moment lenses and ND filters. Its looks great and most people cant tell and are surprised when i tell them.
It’s impressive what these phones can do
EXCELLENT WORK!
Great shots!
says budget, proceeds to use an iPhone 15 pro max for recording
Thats more accessible to the average person 😂
Well... it was shot on an iPhone and looks exactly like something that's been shot on an iPhone. :)
I was sooo focused until the simultaneous stares at 2:34 🤣😭🤣
The title hits straight to my heart🙂😂
That title hit deep... Thank you for reminding me that.
The map scenes are awesome, like the reflection on the map looks awsome, this handheld shoot looks good too but at the 8:27 i dont see that she is drunk she looks more relaxed yet tired. Last scene is definitely to bright. I know its light you cannot control but a little lower brightness would work. Anyway awsome job
Amazing
I hate the way the Christopher Doyle isn’t mentioned when it was his genius.
Love it!
Congratulations on your work man! Really cool shots you got. Im planning on buying a new phone, any other options besides Iphone?
I mean... I do agree that framing, good ideas and a simple good light placements can go a long way. But your film still feels very low budget at the end of the day. A good kind of low budget, but still a low budget film shot in iPhone
After watching this, I’m not so sure it’s MY filmmaking that sucks 😂 But I guess it’s a good way to sell some LUTs 👍
the sighs felt over board lmao no shade
Awesome!
While..yes.. it is a Wong Kar Wai style, but let's also give credit where the credit is really due and that's to Christopher Doyle one of the greatest Cinematographers in the world.
Really great.
“Your filmmaking sucks, not your budget”.
Oh hi, here’s a load of extra equipment we’re using for our “shot on an iPhone” video.
That LUT is awsome!
Loving them lately
YOU NAILED IT
Excelent Brady!!!!
such a underrated video
I mean I get it but I would recommend a 5 year old dslr to someone over this any day, you can find so many incredible cameras for $500 or less
Christopher Doyle is the DOP.
I'm a simple man, everytime I hear "my new LUT" I end the video. Hope it was nice.
i wish the terminals of my city used the same lightining at this one with a bunch of big soft lights in every single wall
Christopher Doyle is the cinematographer for fallen angels and many of wong kar wei films :)
"Not your budget," shows iPhone in the thumbnail as if everyone can afford Apple products.
Android phones + basic video apps.
yall act like you can't pay 25 bucks a month for an iphone lol no one has to pay all the money up front
This is so great! Was it edited on an iPhone as well? 🙏
This is actually amazing, to say the least. Your team earned my sub and Like.
Even with these tests, I would say not to buy a latest phone for the price they are now. Because you are still looking at over $1,000 when you can get a Sony A7R-SOMETHING for $1,500. Just need to save a bit more. HOWEVER, if you ALREADY have a phone, that shouldn't stop you. Prioritize lightning and stick to bright stuff + Resolve Noise Reduction/neat video.
You're an inspiración bro
