- I haven't opened my birthday art haul for a whole month! So today we open my Jacksons art order and swatch out all the goodies. Then I do a drawing for each art material. We draw some cat people and a lot of owls!

Thanks for watching!
I’m baffled that you aren’t already a children’s book illustrator with your beautiful work. You just need the right person to see your work.
Ahh thankyou :) I have a fulltime job so it’s hard finding time to properly market myself and find work. Maybe soon though! I feel things are getting there :)
Hang on. Your ‘Hoot Hoot’ page is adorable. Don’t sell yourself, short. Give some space for others to connect with aspects of your work; they’ll likely surprise you and lead to some new doors, opening. ( yes. I’m a pro and I do know art + publishing.) Such a thoughtful and kind gesture for Martin’s parents to bring you a treat; lucky you! Keep up the good work🎉
Such a fun video April! An idea for your color swatches... I punch a hole in the corner of each swatch card, then put mine on loose binder rings that I bought on Amazon and then have them hanging on hooks. It works fantastically. I also write the color name and pigment information on the backs.
That’s a cool idea. I think I will keep mine loose though as I like the idea of moving them around and finding different colour palettes.
Thanks for great video. Agree with @gingerCupcakeCards that last owl in gouache was just amazing, LOVE LOVE it!
Ahh thanks! I like it too :) maybe I’ll make a print!
I can't handle too many gorgeous paintings and sketches 😩💖💖💖 I adore how your graphite spread turned out! And congrats on the new supplies 🥰
Ahh thankyou :) I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Cats are people, too!
I really love this colorful owl painting! Thank you for making a video of the process☺️💕
Glad you enjoyed it :)
I am so curious about the Art Graf pot and you just swung it for me. Also inspired by your practice of drawing something repeatedly. Thanks for a great video!
It’s super fun! I think you’ll like it :)
All of your work was beautiful but that owl piece at the end was straight up stunning! What a fun little birthday haul 😊
Ahh thanks! I like how he turned out too :) Only 11 months till the next birthday haul 😂
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, April. I really enjoyed watching you create the owl towards the end in mixed media. For future videos, I would really like to gain some insight into how you create color palettes, and how you decide to put one color next to another on the paper.
In this video, you mentioned how you will draw the same subject multiple times. I think it would behoove me to do the same, but my inner voice says, “No, been there, done that.” I do not seem to be able to rise above this mentality.
In any event, I have enjoyed watching your videos. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your comment, sorry it took so long to reply! Colour palettes and palette creation is definitely something I would like to talk about. I have a whole colour video planned out but I want to make it really good and helpful, so I just need to set aside some time
Swatches is so nice!! Really love the cats!
Video idea: augmented art - experimentation for you and also, you have that background.
The cats were fun to draw! 🥰
All your owls turned out great and I love how you make your "cat people", they look amazing!
Thankyou :) I’m glad you liked it!
I frickin love those magic pencils! They’re such a simple idea but the effect is really interesting 🤗😍
They are very fun! I don’t use them often, but when I do they are a blast :)
Loved this April! Your owls are lovely especially the last one!💛
Thanks Jessica :)
Enjoy your new stuff , I enjoyed the video as always 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Barbara :)
I have been eyeing up those gouache sets for a while now. Thanks for giving me a peek 😊
They are very nice! A bit pricey though 👀
@@monkeymintaka yes, that’s why I haven’t bought them yet 😁
I really liked the gouache set the colors are super pretty
Me too katie! So pastely 😍
The water soluble graphite looks so fun!!
it really is! I'm loving it
Hello🙂 love the owls! (And the cat characters in different poses) i have a chunky water soluble graphite pencil, but that little pan looks interesting.
The pan is so much fun! I have a few watersoluble graphite pencils too and I think they work very well together. You can get some nice soft shapes and sharper lines with both :)
I think I'd like the ArtGraf best. I have the Derwent graphitint paint pans and they give a nice texture so they might work well alongside it.
Oooh I haven’t heard of those emma! I will look them up :)
aw you holbein gouache set has such a cute cover! Mine's so boring haha. I'd totally buy it just for the cover..
Yeah! This is my favourite season with the design too. All the boxes look really cool though.
how fun, thanks for posting !!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Now I want to see a video of the Autumn Gouache palette!
Maybe I can do a proper video in autumn :)
I absolutely loved this now I want to get even more art supplies and happy belated birthday ❤😂 x
Thankyou! Which supplies were you tempted with 👀
@@monkeymintaka ......ALL OF THEM 🤣😅
@@loubyloudoodles1432 😂
i need to try that ArtGraf stuff one day, def would be nice to explore making more animals with it 😀
It’s super fun!
Thanks!
Thanks so much!! 🥰🥰
Just discovered your work and love your fun quirky style, you definitely should do illustration!!!
Thanks! I would love to one day :)
I have been drooling over that set of gouache for so long but I keep talking myself out of buying it. Watching this video has not helped me at all because now I want to buy it again 🤦🏻♀️😂
Oops 🙈 Sorry about that 😂 they are really nice though, I think I prefer this spring set over the autumn one. The colours would suit your style so much too!
That’s a beautiful gouache set April! Is it your first lot of traditional gouache rather than Acryla?
I have a bunch! I just started using acrylagouache first so I think I’ve just preferred it. But I would like to use regular gouache more and learn about how to use it better :)
I'm terrible at using paint straight outta the tube. With acrylics I'll smear it on the cap to mix with something else rather than clean my palette. 😂
Glad I’m not the only one :)
What is odd orange?
Sorry! I forgot to link in the description 🙈 Odd Orange is a stationary brand by Morgan Grice. If you search IG you will find the account :) And she does an art session once a month. It’s very fun! You just need to sign up to the newsletter to get the link.
