    This is a re-upload as the last video had no sound for a whole portion oops! You wouldn't believe that I make videos for a living would you 🤣

    Pan pastel has some clear plastic palettes with a lid that you might like. They hold the pastels snugly, and you don't have to fiddle with the individual lids each time. I find the 10 pan size convenient. 20 is a bit big for my desk, and you can swap out for the colors you're working with and keep the others stacked or with individual lids. I like to keep a few of the sponge brushes at hand.... white and tints, warm colors, cool colors, black and shades. That way they don't go muddy, and wipe them on a microfiber cloth between colors. The sponge tips last quite a while if your paper isn't sanded, and you can wash them if they get too saturated . The pastels are delicate and will break and turn to powder if you drop or rattle them. If that happens you can still use the pigment or make a stick with it.
    Thanks for all your awesome videos! I love your work and the hikes are so lovely and inspiring .

      Thanks for the awesome information! I did cringe a bit when the pan pastel dropped on the desk 🙈 I will try to be more careful with them in future. The palettes with the lids sound like a great idea. I will have a look for some 👀

    I started watching The Frugal Crafter back when she and her girlfriends were doing the Ask A Crafter videos and she is who first clued me in to refilling things and replacing nibs and stuff. She's funny too. 😎

    There are Perspex holders for the pan pastels and there is 10 in a holder and you don’t need the lids. You can wash the pan pastel add ons to the blue hand holder. Pan pastels are great to mix and using layers. When mixing you use one of the round makeup things to mix colours which are also washable. I would pick up the pan pastel blender in pan pastels❤

      I picked a tray up a month ago! Game changer :) I will look into that blender though, I didn't realise there was one.

      Yes its a white powder blender much like the other coloured pan pastels. Those clear perspix pan pastel 10 holder are a game changer for sure. Have fun!!!!💜💚💜

    It helps if you burn the new nibs as it helps the nib hold the ink and can help with scratchiest. Hope this helps. Much love & *virtual hugs*❤

      I have heard that but forgot about it. My boyfriend Martin used to do calligraphy and I remember him burning the nibs. I will try it as I hate the scratchiness 🙈

    Too funny I'm exactly same as you re Jackson's squeeze bottle ease. I use Liquitex Softbody over all my many brands because I love the bottles. I love to just squeeze and mix colors right on the paper or canvas. And I can basically draw w them in addition to using brushes and other mark making items.

    I know what you mean about the stack of pan-pastels, I have the portrait set and honestly it puts me off using them. I looked up and you can get spare lids, I just haven’t got around to buying any yet x

    • @monkeymintaka
      @monkeymintaka  ปีที่แล้ว

      I found them on Jackson’s in sets of 8 🙄 so you have to buy 2 sets!! But I think I will get the trays that come with lids so that I can keep them all safe. I know I will drop them off a shelf as they are all stacked on top of each other now. And I heard that if they break they are pretty useless.

    • @CatieWaterworth
      @CatieWaterworth ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@monkeymintaka yeah the palettes are pretty good, I did break one of mine and I saw a tutorial on how to mend it (basically mix with isopropyl alcohol and re-press it) but again I haven’t got around to trying it!

    There’s “q-tips” that i use with my pastels. They are pointy on one end & squarish on the other. You get like 500 in a bag for cheap!!

  • @tiffanyc8837

    I think most of your Qs about the pan pastels were answered but I just wanted to chime it to say be careful using your finger, the oils can cake up the pastels and make them super difficult to use :)

  • @loati94
    @loati94 ปีที่แล้ว

    I find it inconvenient too the stacking of panpastels. The organization aspect is really good because they don't take space and they are all stacked together. But when you go to use them is very annoying. Ive written the name of all the colors on their sides so at least I know which ones I am taking without having to untwist one by one to look at the colors. Then I pick the colors I need and put them inside a lid of something where they fit. They sell big palettes that have a lid so you always have them displayed but they are expensive for what they are and take too much space for me.

    • @monkeymintaka
      @monkeymintaka  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Writing on the side is a great idea! I was looking at the trays for them with the lids but they are so expensive! I might just be annoyed for a few months until my birthday 😂

    That board did not stay clean for long 😂. Did you deliberately forget to buy the blue so you have to make another order - hmm? 😆. I like the look of pan pastels but I'm not in a hurry to buy any so I'll just watch you use them instead.

    Ive noticed youre dipping your nibs and brushes directly into your ink pots and I just wanted to suggest you not do that because it introduces bacteria and fungal growth. I’ve had full pots of ink ruined because I didnt know to not do that! Its as so sad lol. Its best to use the droppers to drop ink onto a dish and use it from there.
