    Fun Fact:
    Not many Americans may know this, but that old woman and her cakes is a reference to a popular tale about humility that was taught to many children in England. When Alfred was under hiding at a peasant’s house he was given the task to keep an eye on some cakes, but he’s too deep in thought about reclaiming Wessex from the Vikings that the cakes got burnt. The old woman scolded him and Alfred, despite being King of Wessex, simple apologizes.

    This is a great way to show how the Templars evolved from the the Ancients. One killing the rest of them off to create the Templars, more focused around the Christian ideals of humans being good and important instead of being secondary and unworthy to the Isu. Yet still holding onto the ideas of Order and control. Brilliant work.

      I wonder at what point the Assassins/Hidden Ones discovered the Templars weren't that different from the Order and decided to assassinate them too.

    • @eden20111
      @eden20111 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yup. The original Assassins Creed games showed us the Templars still value order and power. They still seek knowledge and artifacts of the ISU to gain power and control humanity. While their beliefs are still around Christian ideals, they believe power is the only way forward. They believe free will is a flaw that needs to be corrected. They slay anyone who doesn’t follow Christian ideals believing Christianity is the only source of divine enlightenment. The Templars are just an evolved part of the Order, they know the ISU are not gods to be worshipped, but they understood their power, and will do anything to obtain that power for themselves rather than study it and learn from it. It’s a shame really.

      @julianvilorio3993 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Templar Order became less Christian and are more focused on they think is practical for the better for all mankind. In order to achieve true peace, the will of those who lack understanding are subject to Templars; one body that guides everyone into a better future. Mankind is feeble and is prone to chaotic violence which is why the Templars seek power and control. I’m not saying they’re completely right but I understand why they do it. It’s not pretty but like William Johnson said “Tis the way of the world”.

    I’m very happy that they didn’t make King Alfred The Great a evil villain. Funny that they ended it when the Vikings “conquered Wessex” since right after this ending Alfred is going to destroy the Vikings in a final battle which will make guthrum convert to Christianity. Vikings never gained any land in England after that battle until 150 years later. But they want to end it with the Vikings “winning”.

    • @joshuatraffanstedt2695
      @joshuatraffanstedt2695 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      He didnt destroy the Vikings. The Vikings still had a stronghold all over England even though they never conquered wessex. There wouldn't even be a king of all of England until Alfred's grandson Aethelstan. So he didnt really accomplish anything other than stopping the vikings from conquering lands he already ruled. Besides, just awhile after Aethelstan, Cnut became King of England and he was a viking. He was king until he died. Then of course there was William the Conqueror (and Harold Hardrada was the last Viking with any chance of taking the throne of England), but he wasnt a viking. His ancestors were, but him and several generations before him all the way up to Rollo (William's great great great grandfather) were born and raised in Normandy, France.

    • @anthonylopez899
      @anthonylopez899 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      @@joshuatraffanstedt2695 Guthrms army was completely destroyed though. Even guthrum himself converted to Christianity which heavily decreased the morale of the Vikings. The Vikings were so shocked by alfreds courage in the battle that they wouldn’t attack his kingdom for another 8 years, and when they attacked again they lost the major city of London and Alfred declared himself king of all Saxons because of this. The Vikings would never gain more land in England until around 150 years later, so I think it’s safe to say King Alfred is a man the Vikings would never dare face again.

During this time the Hidden Ones basically came together in large community in Masyaf and remade their Brotherhood as said by Ezio himself in AC Revelations. As to exactly why they chose Assassins well as someone already said it come from the Arabic word "hashashins" or Assassins which is based off a real group of historical Assassins that the whole first game/franchise is based off of. Btw @Mr. Sarcasm they were never called hashashins in AC Universe hashashins as I said before is the real historical group it doesn't have a dictionary meaning but more of symbolic interpretation that means one who Assinates.

    But making him inherit the leadership role and then have him take the order down from the inside is a smart angle. Also the fact that they alluded to him going on to create the Templar order in its stead is a really cool way of connecting everything.

      Yep its pretty bad, you can't even argue that they represent a precursor to the templars, christianity was brought to England around the 3rd century, so it had been here nigh on 600 years at this point, so its highly likely the catholic church had agents in England to help enforce the aims of the church, however the fact they play on the poor fellow soldiers of christ bit which of course is a templar moto, and use middle english words that wouldn't have been in use until around 1066 or so, even thr first word, 'poor' at this time poor would likely have been said as the latin, pauper or old english earm or arm old norse vant, or even old high german root hearn, hene. Anyway this is the tip of the ice berg. As an incredibly proud English man who read history at university the historical, linguistic and geographical accuracy of the game is appalling. The seal of the templars(the tree) could literally be the life tree Yggdrasil, Odin is LITERALLY the god of wisdom (the god of understanding, the father of understanding) we know that the actual root of the templars is in the Order of the Ancients, which was not based in christianity as the templars are after the arrival of King Aelfred of England as their grandmaster. We know Odin was an ISU he aspired for power and wisdom, values which align very well with the templars and he literally sacrificed his eye for wisdom, understanding. I have always had the feeling that the isu favoured humans like this. A leader who wants what’s best for his people. Not overly looking to conquer but to unite people. He was a king of learning and development. Makes you wonder if the templars abs assassins didn’t fight after this if the solution to the sun going nova would have been solved. Like Minerva said. The assassins and Templar’s spent so long fighting but was too late. Maybe the rare leaders in the middle who wanted peace were the real solution.

      @pablomonsalve3911 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes that happened. In AC unity, the Templars and Assassins aren't fighting openly. They have a truce, and the game focuses on the intestine fights of the orders. Also, the French Revolution isn't portrayed as the product of one of the orders actions, but it's instead brought forth by the people. Both orders face it as best as they can
      AC unity explored new territory and plot elements. Arno ends the game wanting not to see himself consumed by the overarching intergenerational conflict of the orders, kinda like Alfred, who didn't like being tangled in the matters of a super old order

    • @loudman12
      @loudman12 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pablomonsalve3911 yeah that’s what I meant in away. In unity it was like that one rare moment of not so much working together but elements outside their control. I mean with Alfred he was in the order of the anients and wanted it gone both the order and hidden ones didn’t see that coming. Like with unity outside their control. I also wonder how much influence kassandra had baring in mind she was alive. One thing I found with her comments. If too much of one side the world burns. Too much Caos with the assassins then bad and too much order with the templars then bad as well. Maybe these uprisings were neutral events to balance it out.

    I get what they were going for with this friendly enemy dynamic, and it's well done in this particular scene. Trouble is, it comes out of no-where. This is the first time in the game we see Aelfred depicted as anything else than a religious fanatic (except for that one background line in Wincestre where we hear him advocating for education) and before this, there is no indication that him and Eivor admire/respect one another. If there was more build-up, an implication that there is more to Aelfred than hating heathens and that Eivor respects him as a king defending his people, this scene might have been a more satisfying ending.
    This way it just comes off as though the writers watched that one famous scene from the Last Kingdom where Alfred and Uhtred finally come to understand each other, decided they wanted a similar dynamic for Eivor but forgot that the Last Kingdom had 3 seasons worth of setup to make it work.

      I liked this too. I watched Last Kingdom after this too and they're both really amazing. I have hope that they can make good characters in the future. They should focus entirely on the old time period plotline and not the modern Abstergo plot because the modern plots are never memorable anymore. I can't wait for Shadows, no drama here just want a fun game😁

    While I don't think this portrayal of Ælfred is historically accurate, (aside from his fervent devotion to Christianity) I still like how they reimagined him as a person in Assassin's Creed. A very deep and well-written character.

    How do you get this part in the story? Because I've already did everything on the alliance map, or is it because I have to kill the remaining members of the order and then confront the father?

      Yep definitely you need to kill all other order members and zealots

      Not sure, the medallions are glitched, but I was able to get this mission by just killing all other order members, all zealots too, beating the game, beating the postgame map regions and doing Asgard missions.
