The Baby-Benz Has Grown Up | 2020 Mercedes Benz CLA 250

  • Formerly the most affordable new Mercedes in America, the CLA has passed that crown to the A 220 for 2020. Are you confused why Mercedes would have two entry-level sedans in America? You're not alone. The CLA is the sportier option with sleeker styling and the A 220 is slightly less expensive and slightly more compact, but we're talking shades of grey here. The CLA has also grow a linger options list, enabling you to option your CLA 250 up to around $60,000 if you get carried away. So does that make the CLA an A3 competitor or an A4 competitor? The best answer: Yes.

    Great as always! I enjoyed the new twist in the second half of the video. I only wished you compared details like trunk space vs the C300 because I think you hit the nail on the head about the two being competitors. Maybe you can make a series of videos about CAR A vs CAR B. You have an amazing talent for looking at the details like car legth, cargo, gas, head room, ect. It would be great to see some head to head. You rock man!

    I own the CLA, absolutely love it. Fun to drive, stylish, get plenty of glances from other drivers, and everyone who i have given a ride to love the mbux/infotainment and sound system. Chose it over the C-Class bc the current gen is terribly outdated, and transmission is way clunkier vs the CLA

    As Alex said, you can get carried away with options for this car. To be fair, you can option this car with premium and navigation package for about $40k which makes it pretty good value.
    I’d personally get CPO 2019 A4 or 330i though.

    I would take the more roomy and not so claustrophobic S60. More room, not as expensive. A solid car. The Mercedes maybe more fun, but in the stop and go reality, I would rather have the Volvo. The car I could drive everyday.

    Although there is currently an overlap in price between A-Class/CLA and the C-Class, my fear is that it's because the next generation C-Class coming next model year is going to be more expensive. I hope not, but given the spy shots I've seen and the lack of reused parts with other Mercedes products, especially in the interior with completely different switch gear and dual-screen layout (vertical rather than horizontal), I think that's where the C-Class is headed.

    I remember the advertisements for this and the gla "If this is what you think a Mercedes Benz under 34,000 looks like....... think again" (Certainly not the case anymore as the a class is mediocre at best) , even though it's pricer than the old one I'd still take it over the A class as I'm not a fan of it's Ford focus like looks.

  • @sak1339
    @sak1339 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A nice looking car for a single person who does not often have more than 1 passenger. But its disappointing that the price can escalate so quickly when one adds features that one expects in a luxury car, and that mass market brands do not option out separately. Does the A class have similar performance and ride characteristics? It seems quite a lot less expensive.

    The CLA 250 4matic still good enough for moving around town and some malls Ave stupidly narrow parking spaces. I'd never get a Volvo over a Mercedes-Benz, even if similarly equipped. 0-60 times are honestly never I look at when looking for a car to buy since I ain't flooring a basic sedan, save those numbers for actual sport cars.

    There was a red CLA250 always parked near my dorm. It had a fake AMG badge and a ridiculous vanity plate that read “GETYOU1” or something to that effect. One night when I was walking past it, there was a couple walking in the opposite direction and the guy was trying to act all “oh wow it’s an AMG” by it to impress the girl he was with. I wanted to embarrass him so bad for being so sorely wrong. I was silently laughing for a couple minutes

  • @bassandtrebleclef
    @bassandtrebleclef 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The only reason you would buy this is because you want the Merc badge in a good looking car and you're happy to pay through the nose for it. This is a terrible value. Fun to drive is available at this price in good looking cars like the Mazda 6 or Jetta GLI. The GLI is more fun because you get more power and a manual for $30k loaded and the Mazda is more lux for $36k loaded. I like this CLA, but it's just too expensive for what it brings.

    • @Right1994
      @Right1994 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Mazda handles a lot worse than the Mercedes.
      I had the opportunity to try both (the Mazda with the european Skyactive X engine).
      The Mazda felt a lot heavier and the rear wasn't nearly as composed. At one point, in a somewhat fast curve, I drove over a milling edge which caused the rear end to "swing" and it just didn't stop. I could feel it swinging for almost 5 seconds. The transmission is also noticably slower.
      No to mention, the radar cruise control on the Mazda was just hair raisingly aweful. At one point, somebody cut in very close in front of me and it just disengaged without any warning.
      Are those differences worth the price difference? I don't know. For most people, the Mazda is probably the better option. However, the Mercedes just feels a lot more refined when driving it. I mean, you can 200km/h (about 125 mph) on the autobahn and there's absolutely no unwanted vibration. Seriously, people keep talking about engines and infotainment when the thing that impressed me the most on the CLA is the suspension.

      Of all the people I talk to, the only one that is interested in that 2 Gran Coupe is someone who has never owned a BMW and is only interested because of the price tag and the appearance that it looks like a legit BMW (the same iDrive, overall design, etc). So I'd say it's catered towards badge-buyers

      No, it doesn’t depend on what you value. The CLA doesn’t bring any benefit over a C-class except a lower price, but then if you want a lower price and need a new car, you’d get either an A-class or ANY other competitor as they all offer more value than the CLA. If you don’t need a new car or can afford to spend a little more, the C-Class is by far a better car, in every way. I don’t know why M-B doesn’t kill off the CLA.

    Extreme understeer at the limit, poorly tuned ESC. What use is if it feels nimble when the handling actually falls apart in an emergency situation? That result is WORSE THAN A SUZUKI JIMNY! There are much cheaper mainstream compact cars that can do the same test at 15+ kph higher speed.

    I personally don't like this new trend of Merc.. Literally every new model is the same... When u compare the new e-class and new cls, cla, they are practically the same...

      Nikica Roksandic The same in design? The same in size?
      Mercedes was always using the same design cues for all of their cars.

      Nikica Roksandic Yes, and that’s always been the case. Ever since the 1970’s, Mercedes always used the same design language for their entire range.

    Luxury car???? NOT!!! Lets face it, not all Mercedes models are "luxury" cars a fact that europeans are well aware of. This is simply a Mercedes alternative to an Accord or Camry. Both of which are better cars! They ship these to the USA to take advantage of american "badgeophilia".

    • @user-ud2nd5xm4c

      Mercedes is still very much considered a luxury brand here in England, I would agree that not all models, but it is weird how the marketing teams have such different successes, it seems that people hold Honda, Toyota and Lexus in high esteem in the US, however over the UK these are considered "non luxury" brands. I would say that anything other than BMW, Audi, Merc Jaguar, Porsche etc are considered non premium. We ever categorise all these brands for insurance purposes and not a single Honda etc would be considered Premium. its weird, I am biased as I have the CLA 250 Amg turning up in 6 days.... Looks gorgeous to me!

      Also, I think these cars RRP are intentional high to keep the brand image up, I got mine Kitted out, premium plus for under 30k which is about 37k$

      Nobody is complaining when Lexus and Acura make FWD cars but when Mercedes does it everyone is complaining.
