  • Hello! With my degree program completed, I finally have time to circle back and tackle a year or so of 3D printer upgrades I have been meaning to do! I've also improved my shop space with an emphasis on fire safety, fume extraction and improving my prints by making use of filament drying, dry boxes and storage!

    Added a Sonic touch recently which is supposed to work on up to 4 printers with klippers, so faster with more great function. Just added a spider hotend and am testing it out now.

      I haven’t looked into Klipper much but it is on my To Do list. I’d love to see how it works on all the big bedslingers I have

      @@WhereNerdyisCool Not only is it an increased speed, it remote send of jobs, camera views, web interface with lots of information, and input shaping to get better prints. Marin is like a wooden cart next to Klipper which is a BMW.

    I live in Tennesee (very humid here in the summer), my 3D printers and filament is stored and used in my nonclimate controlled garage, I store PETG in ziplocks with moisture absorbers just because of all the warnings I heard but my PLA is sitting out and open and I have not had any moisture issues!! I have some filaments (weird colors I don't use often) that are 6 years old, no filament dryer used!!!

      We get pretty humid up here in Maine. I have some spools that I bought in 2013 that were getting pretty brittle. Once I dried them, they were good as new again!

      I'm still running a stock CR10S5 , well mostly stock I added the EZABL bed level sensor and the support rods for the Z-axis. No real reason to upgrade what is working unless you are using the 3D printer in a bedroom or something and just need it to be quiet. My 3D printers are in my garage (with 3 smoke detectors just in case) so loud printing doesn't matter. I upgraded and upgraded and upgraded my Anet A8 and I discovered that upgrading really doesn't net you all that much and can be a total pain, especially because after an upgrade if something doesn't go perfectly you now have to troubleshoot the printer but also have to go back and troubleshoot the upgrades as well as troubleshoot Marlin/Klipper settings to make sure everything is correct. Stock I know my Marlin settings are perfect for this device and alll the wireing and components are compatable I just have to troubleshoot the printer itself!!! I built the Anet a8's (3 of them) from a parts kit so I am familiar with building and wiring a 3D printer and even editing Marlin to add autoleving to them but I find the juice is not worht the squeeze in most cases. Bed leveling aside as I would not own a 3D printer without auto bed leveling again but as long as you buy one with bed leveling included (most do these days) I would lave it stock unless you just have a serious requirement to print in materials your printer just can't handle stock but this is also less a thing as PLA+ can used for many things we used to have to use hi temp filaments for!

    • @WhereNerdyisCool
      @WhereNerdyisCool  19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@mynameisprivate158 oh my word, that Anet A8 is notorious for catching fire - be super careful and make sure the firmware is modernized to utilize thermal runaway. I'm about to upgrade my two CR-10 S5's, mostly to modernize the electronics, a better hot end and so on. I work at a research lab as a lab manager, so safety is a huge part of my role. Reading up on the hazards of 3D printing is been very enlightening. I try to get viewers to at least read the research and choose accordingly. Ultra Fine Particles and VOCs cause massive inflammation to the body. Enclosures, filtering or venting outdoors is a really good idea. When I read people run their machines in the bed room without any safety measures - yikes. I've experienced a 3D printer fire and the aftermath really makes you think twice about how we treat these devices. Much like most people never consider a home security system until they are robbed - so, that said, please print safe. We all love 3D printing - I just ask that my viewers give some pause and examine their setup - and see if they can make it a bit safer. Your well being and health is important to me.

    I'm really looking forward to you running those CR10 S5s, I got one about 2 months ago and I've have nothing but problems. I'll check back in a while and see how to get on with the issues you come across. Great Shop and Gear!

    Hi I also have a taz 6 and have been out of the game for a while (starting a family). Just starting to get back in and realizing how outdated my machine is. Can you please do a video adding a smart run out sensor (btt) and bl touch sensor? Also I’ve heard about people replacing the Rambo board to quiet the machine but I have 0 idea what’s involved with that. I am clueless about programming marlin and weither you should upgrade it or leave it alone. If it’s possible to address any of those things in your up coming video I would be extremely grateful. Thank you!

    • @WhereNerdyisCool
      @WhereNerdyisCool  ปีที่แล้ว

      These are all great ideas. My Taz6 was a freebie handed off to me with issues. It would be nice to modernize the thing. Like most 3D printers from 2016, those stepper drivers howl. I’m not a fan of run out sensors since I’ve seen way too many false triggers. Lulzbot just sent me their newest machine on short term loan to try out and review. Coming soon!

    I am looking for firmware for the CR-10S with the BTT board. Do you have a link? I am a rookie at this stuff. I have the BTT SKR mini e3 v3 board and TFT35 screen installed, and the CR Touch installed. I split the cable and have the two black and white wires plugged into the z end stop port. The other three are plugged into the blouch port. The z endstop cable/sensor has been removed. Currently, the machine thinks it's a Ender3. :)
