  • Welcome to VLOG 5! This is an interesting video i've been meaning to make for a little while now. Ever since getting my Pro V2 and really putting it through it's paces i wanted to better explain what i think in regards to buying and upgrading or spending the money and just getting a pricey printer. I'll take you through some price points and why one might be better than the other!
Below is a link to nearly everything i've discussed!

I agree with what you said about upgrading your printer. I knew nothing about 3d printing. I purchased an Ender3. Just a plain Jane ender3 not a v2 or anything along those lines. I put direct drive ,silent board, dual z axis, microswiss hotend, hardened steel nozzle and I've recently added a rasberry pi and did a full linear rail upgrade and doing all of those upgrades myself and doing the research to complete those upgrades have taught me so much about 3d printing. I'd go with the upgrade version every time lol. I'm now refurbishing an old anycubic kossel linear plus. This is going to challenge every bit of my knowledge to do this but if I hadn't learned so much from doing the other upgrades I'd still be where I started. Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work!!

I just got my first printer as a hand-me-down from a friend who upgrade. So now I have a CR-10S. I updated the official firmware to current and did the Capricorn upgrade when the original Bowden tube kept clogging up (the end was in rough shape). I don't have anything to compare it to but I'm really happy with the prints and really enjoying learning how to be good at it.

Best 3D printing channel on TH-cam. My son who is 15 got a printer when he was 11 ;we had many tears and failures and didn’t know how to get him a complete print . Out of Frustration it sat on the shelf for 3 years. However since discovering. Frankly Built and following his excellent advice my son is now getting brilliant successful prints and has grown in his confidence around 3D printing . So thank you 😊Ps he has the CR10 s .Great review we will keep this in mind when looking for his next printer .

The silent board upgrade.... When my CR10 did its first print, my wife kept going around the house at 10pm at night looking out all the windows, upstairs, downstairs, north, south, east, and west.
She kept complaining to me that some terrible neighbour is leaving their dog outside and the poor thing keeps crying trying to come back inside (it was January and cold.)
She asked me "don't you hear that poor dog? I can't find it though, I looked everywhere I can't find him but he keeps crying."
I told her "I don't hear anything, I don't hear any dog crying or howling."
She then told me to listen "see... There it is, it's crying, it just cried."
I then laughed and realized it was the printer in the basement. I told her "go look in the basement, the poor dog is stuck in our basement." 😂

I paid $302 for my CR-10s Pro V2 in August 2021. Best deal I've seen for this printer. Bought it from NewEgg. And I agree 100%. The CR-10s Pro V2 is an awesome printer. It was a great upgrade from my Anet A8 and Ender 3. My favorite upgrade I did to it was to stop using the stock heavy aluminum print surface and replace it with FR4 epoxy board.

Agree with everything you said, especially about the glass bed, I struggled for months with the bed on my cr10s until I realised it was warped and bought an IKEA glass mirror tile, it works almost perfectly but i think I'm going to replace it with the ultrabase that came with my (now dead) anycubic printer

For years I thought the glass is the problem. I bought a mirror. Didnt help. Bought an Anycubic Ultrabse, didnt work. Then I got the tip from a friend that the bed is the problem and that a tape in the middle helped. And that was it. The aluminium bed was the problem.

Brand new to 3D printing as of last week. Got the 5 plus for printing large items. Can confirm that it will take some time to get it right, but now that I’ve got it dialed in, it works like a dream. Can also confirm that the stock tube and extruder are not the best. Had the white tube fail after about 20 hours of printing, (melted/backed out and clogged the nozzle). No issues since making those two upgrades. Great video.

i just added BL touch, Micro Swiss Hot End and Direct Drive to my 3 year old 10s ProV1 and it is a new machine. I also had put on 10S Max Z axis Struts and Synched Z axis Belt and Pullys. Updated Firmware makes the machine a Tank and reliable, Great sturdy and solid build. Prints smooth and precise. All it needs now is Flex Bed for part removable. Total Investment $500 today. All in with the upgrades ive done im still cheaper then the regular cr10 s for both printers. BUT the sunlu does require upgrades to be a good machine its just a very solid base. I agree with the capricorn tube, however you MUST change the couplers too, because the stock ones are very low quality...And dont be cheap on filament, because capricorn tube as less toleranses than the stock one, so if you encounter a filament with no consistency on diameter capricorn+cheap filament will give trouble.

Great video! I agree with 90% of it. I bought an Ender 3 Pro last July knowing that it could do nice prints out of the box. There was also a great userbase and established upgrade path. Hasn't let me down so far. Today I'd buy a v2 and save printing all the common upgrades. I loved my glass print bed until I got a spring steel PEI sheet. There's nothing better for PLA.
Another argument for upgrading is initial cost. 3d printers are modular by design. If you like and use it then you can always upgrade it and make it better. Biggest factor on which machine to buy is what print size you need.

Thanks for the video, I pulled the trigger on a CR-10s Pro V2. I was almost swayed to go with and Ender 5 Plus. But after 5 years of fighting a Maker Select V2 for every print that came out of it. I wanted something a bit more plug and play. I'm going to try and pick up a used Ender 5 at some point though..

I agree I have an end at three because I didn’t know about the pro version or version two and I think my end at three and I’m morning about it I am upgrading the extruder gear to dual extruder gear and PVS tubing the blue tubing because my stock tubing for the filament clogged up in the tube so in the future I might get a C10s Version and angel my food panda in the 3-D printing community but thanks for letting me know about the upgrades I can do to make to my ender 3

    I needed this video.
I picked up an Ender3 v1 3 years ago. upgraded the bed, board, tube, hotend and so on. but now i want a bigger printer. been debating between the Ender5, Cr 10s, Cr 10 v2 and the Cr10mini. i enjoy doing the upgrades myself.

Simple, is your goal the prints? Or the printers?
If you just gonna print, buy already upgraded.
If playing with the printer is your goal, then buy cheap and start building on top of it.

Been seeing your work in the user forums for a while now, and you do some awesome stuff. I do notice from your video though that you print at a relatively low speed, which with all your machines I guess works well for you. In regards to the 'ultrabase' The reason it is stock on the 5 plus and not the cr10max, is that it is heavy, on the 5 plus it make not difference, on a bed slinger, if you start to increase the speeds, this extra weight can cause problems.
You are careful to say that this is what works for you at least, but for those printing at high speeds it many not be the case.
No a criticism as you do explain it is what works well for you, just pointing out the potential issues for other uses cases of these machines
Keep up the good work, I do enjoy seeing your awesome prints!

I'm new to this hobby and got a CR-10 V3 a lil while back and I hate the massive control box, cabling that goes with it, etc.

Quite cool covering the prices, quality, upgrades ! A real comparison.
But small question, at the same price (280€) CR-10 V2 vs CR-10s pro, which one would you pick ? The pro i guess ? I just wonder if it's as reliable, if it has problems/lacks features
