Caught the train all the way from Chiang Mai to Singapore 30 years ago, with many stopovers and train changes in between. They're likely still using some of those same carriages now. The whole Thailand part was incredibly slow. So the best way was to do stretches of it at a time with stopovers. Even though slower, I'd still prefer the train to taking buses. Its more relaxing taking in the scenery, while being able to get up and walk around on the train, and you don't have to worry about the bad or impaired drivers on the roads. Also didn't really mind the stops where hawkers came up to the train selling all sorts of cheap food & goods. 👍
I took an overnight train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok in 2009. Made the mistake of riding coach class. What an awful experience.
50 years ago I took a sleeper train from KL to Bangkok. Don't remember much about the journey now. I was in Hua Hin 16 years ago and was fascinated by the station. Took lots of photos.
I took that standard train that you mentioned from Hua Hin to Bangkok and it took 7.5 hours and it was by far the worst train I've ever taken in my life. I would only take a train again if it was a newer train and if it only took 3 hours
Yeah no way would i catch the normal train it just takes to long. The special express and express is the only way to go, 3.5 hours i might even give it a go
You may get that chance as the Japanese govt is about to donate more KIHA trains to Thailand. Although, old for Japanese's standard, but they're a godsend compared to these ancient abominations we're using right now.
If you wanna look at the land like a tourist or a prospective expat, take the slow train, and look at the land.
Yes I did it myself not long ago hoping it would be scenic....it's not so I don't recommend it
But u can get a driver and get there in 80 minutes
Nice overview of the new station. Once the express trains start running it'd be nice to see you test them out and show how it goes.
I used to like catching the 1300hrs from Hua Lamphong to Hua Hin, it took about 41/2 hrs but was great fun because them days they sold beer on the trains, and it was party time in the restaurant car.
Great video ! Was a pleasure to film 🎉 - awesome detective work Jonny! 🙌
Love the video Jonny ❤ Thanks for sharing this information 🙏🏼 Merry Christmas 🎄 to you & Som😘
I love all your videos. I just found you about a week ago. I plan on watching all your videos. I’m starting all the way to the beginning when you first started about 7 years ago.
Awesome! Thank you! happy to have you on board Joe, keep going my friend and stay positive. Thanks for watching :-)
Outstanding. Near 500 episodes. That's like watching the whole 36 series of Home & Away. 😊👍
Excellent video, Jonny! Great information and food recommendations - well done. Long time viewer in the U.S. - Mark O
I took the slow train back in 2015, it was so painful... stopping all the time with food vendors coming on shouting n shit... even if you wanted to sleep you couldn't..
This new train is great for the local community in Hua Hin.. always love going there ❤❤
Great to see its up and running , thanks for sharing ! Merry Xmas , enjoy !
Nice video. Finally an instructive video about the new train station. Appreciate the content. Can't wait to see it in January
Jonny and Som y'all rock! Love the channel and content. Peace
Thanks Jonny, there are new trains coming, actually I like taking a train the scenery is amazing ✌🏿🥰🎄
Great video looks amazing glad they have kept the old station. The food look amazing and cheap . As always interesting and entertaining, hope all is with the family
Thank you Micheal glad you enjoyed it, hope you are well my friend
The train is fun to jump on in Thailand
They can take a while, but it’s a nice view of the countryside
Just had the Pad Kra poa moo and yes, it’s quite good. I showed your picture and they remember you from yesterday! Thx for sharing the location. Cheers !
Nice. I like the look of the old station, but progress is in motion, and you are right, the paint scheme is nice. It will be interesting to see if it reduces weekend traffic to and from Bangkok.
Thanks for the update of the Train from Hua Hin to Bangkok.
Thanks Jonny. Getting off the train 1/27 and will eat there! Taking train from home in Buriram overnight in sleeper.
Thanks, I was about to ask if there is anything outside the station.
Even travelling solo, I need aircon door to door with luggage, really - other people might be more heat-tolerant than I am.
A good use case would be if you were basing yourself in Hua Hin longer term and wanted to run up to Bangkok for a couple of days, that would work.
The staff at the ticket booth were very professional.
Yeah they have done a excellent job with the station maybe just opened a bit early, but maybe they gotta test everything. I hear you brother i need aircon also lol
You didn’t get used to Thailand heat after living here all these years? 😂
@@Baligood I don't live there, but I've asked other people the same thing!
Thanks Jonny - I was going to stroll up there tomorrow for a look see - just landed in HH two days ago.
Was thinking of taking the train to BKK on my last leg of this trip- will need to see times now.
Best rain ever is overnight BKK to Chiang Mai - amazing trip.
Great to be back btw and planning my move here.
Place ain't the same without 'magic man' - keep walking past but he ain't there...hard to believe.
That’s great to hear Darrly welcome back, hopefully our paths will cross soon. Definitely take the stroll up there mate it’s great to see, please try that Thai restaurant I recommended. Hope to see you soon & have a great trip. RIP magic man 🙏
As always, a great video!
new station looks great Jonny, definitely a great option to get to Bangkok. I'll definitely try that food next time i'm there in Hua Hin. cheers mate
Cheers mate glad you enjoyed it, def get the mix crispy pork and mince pork with the duck egg. Amazing & thanks for watching:-)
@@jonnyasia i definitely will, and i certainly did, always welcome mate
I went to Hua Hin last April ,love the place..the old station is a must visit.
Very informative. Thank you
one can't beat thai food for quality and price ....... good content Jonny and good camera work Som
take care Jonny tyvm for all infos on HH station
Looking well bud Happy Christmas to you all
Malc and Pangta
Hey Jonny The station is absolutely enormous. I've done the train trip to Hua Hin many times before they closed Lampong Station. Left BKK at 9.30 and arrived in HH at 1.30pm. Only took the 2.00pm train back once, and it took five and a half hours - so never again. Totally agree, like most things Thais do, maybe the station was opened too early. So no freight on the train? I transported a bicycle down to HH from BKK. Lunch looked amazing. I use to go to a restaurant just around the other corner when I arrived in HH on the train.
I love how they kept the colour scheme from the original.
Great video
Great informations 🙏🙏🙏
Good morning jonny... i hope i come back to hua hin..yes i am a member in the royal golf club...150 M from the trainstation. I must stay at Hamburg...car accidant but I can look a lot of TH-cam clips from you...
To use newer types of trains probably require complete new rails all along to fully use the trains. It was probably a compromise to permit more use of the trains. thanks for the video.
Another good information video JONNY, please speak slowly mate as I have just got my missus used to understanding my Aussie accent and then you come along and rattle off the info like an express train and I have to sit her down and explain it all again.
Sorry about that mate that must have been painful lol, you can always adjust the playback the speed settings in the clog icon to make it slower. But thanks for the advice
Good one jonny rowntree.
Som hand must got sore in this one good this she scored a lunch at the end.
Hi Jonny, again a very cool video. You are doing a great job!! What camera have you used for the video ?
Cheers Rob that was just a iPhone 13 Pro Max with rode wireless microphone. In saying that I have the best camera man in town 👍😊 @editedbymaths
very good, thanks
Great video, was looking forward to this one! I believe "Outbound" probably means Southbound and Inbound means Northbound.
Jonny, Som, Title, Sebastian, Merry Christmas.
Took the early 5am train from Hua Lamphong to Chonburi about 20 years ago. It was 4+ hours and the seats were really uncomfortable. I love trains and I appreciate that experience but never again!
Great show Johnny. Stay cool 😎 kind and generous.
Station looks great 👍- I took the train last month from Hua Hin > Chumpon - took 4 hours and was 330 bht .
I think the price to BKK for 1 or 2 is ok and I think
It’s good to have plenty of options to get to BKK
If there is an express train that would be Very good
The food looked excellent
Thanks Jonny
Great tour there mate.Well done. How is Title going with his drawing mate?
I went in that restaurant the other day, you are right its one of the best
Ohh good to hear, yeah i get it delivered 3 times a week. The place is packed at night they must be making good $$
@@jonnyasia I'm going to pop in tomorrow after the trauma of renewing my license in Cha Am 😂
Speaking my language Jonny! Pad Krapow is my favorite dish! Gotta check that place out next time I’m in Thailand
Thanks Mate ... great info ... new train station looks really good ... for me as a Golfer, funny to see the Green close to the station ;-) ... how much time does it take with a bus to Bangkok ?
Love all comments below re beers, hours, dumping, massages etc all great content here. Just need loads and loads of beers and place to wee for 4 hours ride
Jonny you’re the man. Everything you need to know just watch Jonny.
Thanks for the video, I always like learning about new transport options for popular stops in Thailand. I got questions though because (as usual) all the options Thai operators present gets confusing. Since I cannot be without AC for 3-5 hours during daytime without being a sweaty mess, what is the cheapest ticket option for an air conditioned seat on train from Hua Hin to bangkok? Buy express ticket for 300 baht? Or is the only AC option to do the 1000 baht overnight train which seems weird? Private taxi seems better option at that point!
Also is there a direct train from Hua Hin to Pattaya? Or does one need to get off train in Bangkok then buy a second ticket to Pattaya? Also is there any plan at all to renew the ferry crossing between Hua Hin and Pattaya? That seemed fairly convenient option to travel that way, a shame it got shut down post Covid.
Hua Hin keeps getting better
Nice one Uncle Jonny, I've never gotten the train, always a cab but think Id like to try it out for the views. Jonny, know you're not a Golfer but could you do something on the Golf course across the road?? You know, clubhouse, Caddies, cost of green fees etc? Its many years since I've been there but I remember the sign in the men's locker room, ''Poo Chai, peeze Not wash your Balls in the wash hand basin'' heeee 😂
I visit last summer holiday Hua hin , than the new train station was still under construction , But i like also the old station , with the old ornaments of a long history
Great news for the reduced time to get from Bangkok to Hua Hin. Bring on the High Speed rail which I think will only take 1 hour between Hua Hin and Bangkok but don't think they will start until 2030.
Interesting!
I been travel to and from the old train station was in Hua Hin 2007 and 2009 on hollyday.
Jonny is there no overhead walkway? No boomgates? Just cross the lines in between trains?😂😂
Som is very good at running the camera
555 enjoy the restaurants near the train station ! I will like to live in PKK muang and use cheap trains to Hua Hin ;-) ... and will use only night trains from/to Bangkok
Just took the fast 3hr train from Bangkok to Hua Hin. Took 3.5hrs.
The track duplication has not been finished yet. So there are still single line sections that cause delays. When finished 3 hours will be achievable.
At 6:40 you can see stairs so appears there was no need to wait for the lift haha.
It's only Special Express (Diesel Rail Car) Train 43/40/39 and 44 that possibly travel from BKK - Hua Hin, Hua Hin - BKK in 3 hours ++
Always wanted to take the train but haven't done it yet. Every time I land at bkk I want to go to samui ASAP 😂😂😂
Jonny, I'm going to Bkk in February 24, like to meet you and som.😊
Love your vids. Real life vids. Not big on duck eggs having had ducks and chickens but that looked great.
Where was that market ?... Looked like Hua Hin train station you were at just before...?
.
Again you inform us, taunt us, and tease us with views of Thailand. We have our house up now and we hope to sell it and be on our way to Thailand no later than April. Sukanya and I are looking to Hua Hin, Cha-am, Prachuap Khiri Khan for our NEW home. Thanks again for what you do.
Hi Jonny, I guess you know a lots of expats there. Please make video about tennis situation there. Is there group, league to play in. If you could please provide me with some info. Thank you.
Jonny, How are you doing? Very good, Very good. Good.👍
Where are the stairs.....just in case of power outage or fire?
There are lots emergency exit stairs on the exterior all up both sides of tracks.
that lady at 3.03 was very informative 😂😂😂
I think the best part of it is now you can go to Bangkok and stop at the don muang airport stop.
The old Don Mueang train station was closed in front of the Airport & Amari hotel. Unless they're reopening it, guess they'd be using the red line station, a fair walk away from the centre of the airport.
@@Wilko11 yes but this is where all the north south trains stop at.
Hey Jonny, looks like you are loosing weight! Looking good! Thanks for the information, very useful.
Merry xmas jonny som title

That's $3.88 NZD. Good value. Kapai
The slow train is the best deal because you are getting a longer experience for a lesser price .
A slow overnight train is even better because it saves paying for a hotel room for one night .
You have to think smart in the travel game .
Same with a slow massage and an even slower happy ending, heee, heeee 😂
My experience over 4,5 hours from hua hin to bkk
I took it on a Sunday afternoon and it took 7.5 hours
3.5 hours, so only maybe 1/2 to 1 hour shorter than it used to be. About the same as mini-vans now.
Still going to take 3 and a half hours into bkk ..thats a shame ( its longer than a car or bus ) i thought it would be much quicker
How much money would that server make/day?
merry xmas ,
Thank you Gab I wish you a merry Xmas also, what’s your plans?
Taking a train to Hua-Hin can take 4 hours plus because they stop in few places from 20 mins up to half hour. For Airconditioned class ticket, you are allowed to book only one day in advance because they prefer long journey passengers. You will not get to sleep for this short journey. It's rubbish for the price of nearly 500 bahts (5 years ago). For people who love nostalgic travelling should go for cheap ticket, it could be fun, with many locals come in to sell food. Otherwise Sombat tour bus from Bangkok has toilet and take 3.5 hours, it is great.
when you go married with your lady i want see that crazy aussi hahaha
LOL Crazzy aussie you know dat
one can see the lift being overloaded
So it's still vastly quicker and more comfortable to just fly to Phuket.
Glad to hear that is the opinion. Keeps Hua Hin quiet and not full of Russian muppets..
Escalators not running are called … stairs
😂 Yes Sir!
Where this new station?
Thailand.
Thailand got to invest in better tracks. 200 km by road. 3,5 hours by train? this should be a one hour journey by train
Its not easy to take a dump on the train!
Short of change!!!
Open a bar John
dont be so gready ..go to bluport and just buy some nice shoes for you ...xmas is comming soon looie...
What you don’t understand is I have lived in Thailand 14 years now & Birkenstock is my go to everyday shoe. I don’t care what people think, it would be like walking around in jeans. But thank you for the suggestion, I might even treat myself to a new pair Xmas day 😀
it cant possibly be 2bahts per ticket. going one station on bts is 15 bahts. something must be wrong.
That was the cheapest ticket to go one stop.
@@tomthebadasscat Great if free access to the toilets
The ordinary train from Hua Hin to Prachuap Khiri Khan costs 19thb
They should have bullet trains , we are in the year 2024 , not 1970
I have had a hard think about this & maybe they kept the old trains for the normal Thai wage. Newer trains would mean an increase in ticket prices & maybe the average Thai couldn’t afford it. Who knows, amazing Thailand 😃
Exactly! That train I took from Hua Hin to BKK had to of been from the 1970's. My back & a$$ were soo sore after from the uncomfortable seats, my hands and skin were coated in dust and I was coughing a lot after too. I wouldn't take that train again even if it was free
Thailand training systems needs to modernize like Bangkok mass transit

Train travel is great in Thailand beats putting up with the idiot drivers on the highway.
You need to work more on your presentation, you are all over the place
Spend millions of Baht for new station and run the same old nasty trains through it....kind of like Amtrak in the USA!.......
