Great video!! Followed the your steps and installed the water pump myself. My mechanic didn't know were the noise was coming from and while my pump still did it's job the bearings was rattling like marbles. My mechanic told me come back when the sound gets louder.I was told most mechanics overlook this problem and think it may be a bad alternator bearing. But he didn't want to do the job until he was 100% sure were the noise was coming from. Thanks again!
Well... 8 years ago (almost to the date) I watched this video for a walkthrough guide and it was perfect... Unfortunately I am hear again to do the same thing because the water pump has gone out again 🤦♂ glad your video is still up!
Thanks Peter. I need to replace the water pump on my sons Corolla so I have just watched your video in preparation. Many Thanks from Australia. Keep up the good work my friend.
Mr.Finn i would like to thank you for posting this video, it is very helpful and very easy to understand the way you explain it. And just again thank you and keep on posting videos. thank again.
Peter, the car he was working on did not have an AC on it, I was merely saying it makes a different beast with one. because of the ac lines and all. Still end result was my car runs so good with the factory new water pump that I"m so pleased wtih myself in doing this...
I had forgotten how to place the drive belt consulting your video a second time, I learned were i made my mistakes. If you have knowledge about how to remove broken screw please write, thank you without your video presentation, I could not have started with confidence! I may have to replace the water pump housing and rem the broken bolt from the motor block it has turn into quite a challenge.
I feel like my alternator has like to extra wires and cables that need to be disconnected in order to take off alternator. I am not a mechanic but watching your video now and my alternator won't come off as easy
Hello Mr. Peter Finn, I learned a lot ! My question to you is instead of moving lose the tensioner brackets would it have been easier to unscrew the water pump pully?
Hi. Bolt broke is always bad thing and you should monitor the possible leak. If leak appear in future, you must take the broken bolt away. I have also another video: how to take broken bolt off.
The 17 mm bolt is fix and highly torqued I had to use pipe from underneath to loosen it. What I discovered the 19 mm is the one to move with pipe. Removing the alternator is the best way to change the water pump.
Thanks alot. I changed my Corolla radaitor because I learned it from one of your videos. BTW: why not using silicon sealant as 2nd measurement. I always use it to avoid unseen leaks
i just want to say thank u for the video but more important thank u for replying to ur comments shows ur resposible nd caring ..keep up the good work ill subscribe
Thanks a lot Mr Peter Finn,My Question is how to off check engine light for my corolla 2001 ,i take to garage but not fixed, and how to check is that good or not for water pump,
I have a 07 Toyota corolla Heard some grinding sound coming from the engine small at 1st and eventually began to get louder during the last time Driving it would take extra long for the car to heat up even when I had the heater on full blast when I figured out I needed a new water pump when I had gotten a new water pump with with the rubber sealant and gasket and thermostat some new hoses I had the car for 6 year, did not flush are change any the coolant from the cool system only put coolant in the resovior tank topping it up, should I put sealant on the gasket when replacing the water pump, and flush the system coolant system?
Nice video. I have a 2013 Corolla and I want to replace the water pump. I have a gasket but I purchased a gasket maker as well. I was wondering if I should apply this like a sealer to the gasket, and if so which side of the gasket? Or perhaps I don’t need this stuff.
Hello Mr. Fin- Bob Bishop again, I was suggestion something about the water pump pulley removal , I apologize, I was thinking of an American car were pulley bolts are visible it does not apply to your demonstration.
Very good video! However, I would recommend to use a small Bristol brush instead of the knife to clean the edges of the water pump. The reason: The knife can leave groves tracks and a nice seal can not be obtain due to this matter.
I have changed the water pump, several things went wrong. I was able to remove pump without removing alternator however it was very difficult using a 90 flex joint on the 10 mm socket, your way was much easier take alternator out better method. Secondly the old pump impellers looked very good and the busing made no sound when spooned,; the gasket looked good however I Had mail order the pump and the gave me the wrong size gasket it kept falling off it's gully mold. I had use silicone gasket
Nice project coverage! I was most pleased to see you put the water pump in without any silicone. I cant hate those who use silicone on these things enough! They just put a mess, and it doesnt help anyway! That said, I removed my 2005 Toyota Matrix water pump today and mixed up the bolts. There are 6 of them, in 2 lengths. I hope I will find out what goes where. I will appreciate guidance, but please don't post "I think". Thanks.
Great video, haven't watched it through yet, though. Thought I'd ask beforehand; is this procedure suitable for a '02 Corolla Verso? It has the 3ZZ-FE engine; 1.6l with timing chain. Also, the car has AC, does this make things severely more complicated? Cheers!
No mate, the belt is just an auxiliary belt, its good how Toyota did this it makes it much easier, alot of cars the water pump is located along the timing belt, which obviously makes things a little more complex
hi Mr Finn! I need your help, i have a toyota mr2 vvti 2003 with the same motor that you show on video. To change my water pump is it necessary take of alternator? Thanks
Crank your heater up is what I've been told. And if your pump isn't working well enough to circulate coolant through the heater then it's probably bad as it won't be capable of getting coolant to the engine..
I have a 2000 Corolla with little bit over 100k miles on it. I bought used one from seller 3 years ago. Should I change a water pump ? Cause I don't think seller did it before .
Mr. Finn do you need to replace the water that leaked after you removed the water pump? was that a coolant or just a regular water? if yes, where do you top off? Thanks.
My question is why reinstall an old pump makes no sense. And you should clean the area better and put a tiny amount of grease on the rubber gasket so it stays put and dosen't twist or kink and seals properly. Just my take on this
what the hell is a carpet belt?? you don not have to loosen the 17 mm bolt on the belt tensioner just pry on the 19mm bolt head to release the belt tension

Use a big screwdriver on the pivot bolt spacer pry just a little bit and wiggle back and forth
Seems like a pretty simple job! Thanks
Yes
Try it on a vw lol 10x harder as its located on the timing belt, under the timing cover, not fun compared to this engine
Ok, I need to test that too. Thank You.
Hello Mr. Peter Finn, I learned a lot ! My question to you is instead of moving lose the tensioner brackets would it have been easier to unscrew the water pump pully?

Ok. Good car repairs to You.
Mr Finn - you do not need to loosen the bolt of the tensioner in order to pull the 19mm fix bolt.
Milanesa2010 Thanks for your comment.

I like Your comment. :-)
Brilliant.A great help.

Hi. I have couple of videos, how to remove broken bolt. I send video link to You.

Thermostat bad

thanks for posting this video.
Thanks for feedback.
Thank you so much for the video! What tool did you use to get out that last bolt on water pump? It was 17:26 in the video?
10 mm socket
HI Peter! Why you didn't use any sealant when putting it back in? I think it could help holding the gasket in place
Thanks for comment. :-)
Very good video! However, I would recommend to use a small Bristol brush instead of the knife to clean the edges of the water pump. The reason: The knife can leave groves tracks and a nice seal can not be obtain due to this matter.
+GUALLACOL Thanks for comment.
That knife though. Idk if I would recommend the use of a kitchen knife to clean aluminum block or part but good job besides that.
Good

Hello, I read Your comment. Thanks. 👍😀
Peter Finn the Car Doctor is it the same? Avensis? 🤓

Hi, I have video to bolt location too. Long and short. th-cam.com/video/kuoU6UuZqXo/w-d-xo.html
Lots of thanks!
According to another video (NutzAboutBolts) the shorter bolts are located where the flange is thicker on the original OEM pump.
Yes, when removing these bolts label them or set them out in the order they are from 12 oclock around the pump.
Great video, haven't watched it through yet, though. Thought I'd ask beforehand; is this procedure suitable for a '02 Corolla Verso? It has the 3ZZ-FE engine; 1.6l with timing chain. Also, the car has AC, does this make things severely more complicated? Cheers!
Yes, same idea.
Another big thing here is that this car has no A/C, this makes a big differance. All in all good vid.
Hello. A/C is one extra wheel below of alternator. Very similar.
I love your videos. Please make more. Spiceba.
Hello, Thank You.
What year is the car you're working on? its more difficult on models with air conditioning alot less roon to access the bottom two bolts
+Samuel Navarro This is year 2000.
Helped a lot
Thank You for comment. Best Regard Peter Finn
Do you have to mess with the timing doing this?
No mate, the belt is just an auxiliary belt, its good how Toyota did this it makes it much easier, alot of cars the water pump is located along the timing belt, which obviously makes things a little more complex
hi Mr Finn! I need your help, i have a toyota mr2 vvti 2003 with the same motor that you show on video. To change my water pump is it necessary take of alternator? Thanks
+Nuno Silva Not necessary, if you could replace the pump.
+Peter Finn thanks Mr finn
Thanks bro
I have read your post. Thank you for the message. Good comment. 👍😀
After how many km Water pump needs replacement, în general?
Toyota OEM pump last about 200 000 Miles.
this one has no Air Conditioner Unit?
I think i may have the A/c blocking .
Here is no AC
I don't use knife, because uneven surface will effect the proper sealing. I use blade that what is used on the scraper.
That is good !
good 👍
Thanks for the visit
How to check waterpump good or truble without opening from engine
It is possible.
Crank your heater up is what I've been told. And if your pump isn't working well enough to circulate coolant through the heater then it's probably bad as it won't be capable of getting coolant to the engine..
Is this the same the the xrs models as well?
Thanks.
Dc2 Yes, it is similar.
Helo Peter i have question for you,I have Toyota corolla it has Timming chain do i have to change it?
Yes, every 100 000km
thank you very much
I have a 2000 Corolla with little bit over 100k miles on it. I bought used one from seller 3 years ago. Should I change a water pump ? Cause I don't think seller did it before .
Hi, please replace water pump, when it starts to leak water and coolant.
So it takes about 45 minutes to do the job?
Well.. about 1 hour to 2 hours
tha Nike good video

Mr. Finn do you need to replace the water that leaked after you removed the water pump? was that a coolant or just a regular water? if yes, where do you top off? Thanks.
+Norman dela cruz It is good to replace coolant after water pump replace. It is coolant liquid.
what came out the water pump is water, right?
I would not put water in my engine, because water is corrosive and build up rust inside the engine.
Hi, the liquid is coolant liquid.
if the water pump was leaking badly enough then the coolant might have leaked out leaving the operator with no choice but to use water.
Distilled water
My question is why reinstall an old pump makes no sense. And you should clean the area better and put a tiny amount of grease on the rubber gasket so it stays put and dosen't twist or kink and seals properly. Just my take on this
OLD is good and made by Toyota.
The smaller bolt goes in the inside and the other one goes
+Jonathan Hernández Thanks for comment. :-)
