Watched this on 1.5 speed, went to autozone, got a new water pump + antifreeze 50/50 for 96$, then spent 1.5hrs replacing and refilling my car :) Great video! Thank you
Great instructions. I replaced my water pump in my 2009 Toyota Corolla today. I noticed that I had very poor gas mileage & had my car diagnosed by a mechanic. After thorough inspection, he told me that the reason for loss of mileage is that the water pump needs to be replaced & quoted cost of replacement at $500+. I went to an autozone store, bought the parts & coolant & was able to replace the water pump myself for under $100. All thanks to this video. I just hope now that my gas economy improves as a result. I filled my tank & now have to wait to see.
Thanks to your video that I just found for years after you made it, I realize that my Toyota Corolla does not have a belt tensioner pulley. What I’m looking at is the water pump pulley. I recently replaced my serpentine belt in the pulley on the water pump looks a little bit damaged so I was thinking of replacing it but thanks to you now I know that that is a water pump pulley and I believe that it cannot be replaced unless I replaced a pulley thank you very much.
Thank you Sir, jacked it up and it was a piece of cake. Only problem it squeaked like hell. I went back to the video to see how to tighten the alternator bolts in the correct order and it worked. But I marked where the adjuster should land and it worked perfect. The belt was to loose. Thanks again. 12/15/23
Your communication skills are above the rest. This video Is a great help. I'm broke and Need to do It myself. Thank you good sir. A gentleman and a scholar.
This is the video that got me where I wanted to with the serpentine belt. It was pain to say the least placing it back on. Thank for taking that extra step brother, you saved me tons of hard earned money. You rock.
Thanks for the video Ron It saved me alot of money doing this myself. Dealership gave me an estimate for about 700 dollars. Cost me 118 dollars for the pump and belt, 12 dollars for coolant, and 22 dollars for a torque wrench. Much appreciated sir.
If it helps anyone, when you’re removing the bolts from the old pump, place them on the new water pump to know where each bolt size belong to which hole
I’m doing the same type of repair 09 Corolla the two long bolts did have silicone the three smaller ones did not silicone the two long bolts look like they go into the block but I’m only a TH-cam mechanic thank you for this video helped me out tremendously
Video helped me replace my water pump.on my 2009 matrix, same.engine in the video. paid $66 for water pump and belt from rockAuto and $26 for 2 gallons of.collant from Walmart. I didnt use a torque wrench instead I used a wrench with.a super short handle which allowed me to feel when it was tightened fully. I don't trust my torque wrench.
I want to say thank you for the very detailed and informative video i was able to fix my alternator and save 800 dollars thanks to u guys keep up the great work!!
Funny thing, the breathing everyone refers to is actually a ram fan pointed at us from the office 3 ft away. Kind of like talking on your cell phone while driving with the windows down
Thanks for your tutoring video, Ron. I am planning to replace Water Pump on my daughter's Corolla 2009. Nothing is leaking, but car is 16 yrs. old, and it is only matter of time before the issues will arise. Your video is excellent, I subscribed and will watch your future videos for sure. Since I will be replacing Water Pump first time in my life, I would like to see the working area, but the space is so tight that half of the job you performed half blind. I am thinking to take off passenger's tire and under fender plastic covering. It might give me better access from underneath. What would you advise in this matter. I will appreciate your answer. Thank you in advance. Keep posting another tutoring video. You are helping DIY community a lot.
Don't forget to mention that, if you disconnect the neg terminal of the battery, be sure you have access to the restoration code for the radio / stereo head unit.
What I usually do when I need to drain the coolant is rather than use the drain plug on the radiator is I pull the lower hose from the radiator and let it fall into a pan. In some newer models, the radiators don't even have drain plugs and are specifically designed to be drained that way.
Hey Ron, do you adjust or touch the cam timing When changing the pump? I haven’t finished the video yet but that’s what I’m here trying to make sure if we do or not
Great video rob very informative and you did an excellent job with your explanations I just had a friend install a water pump in my Toyota I still hear squealing noises why is that ron? Well be safe you and your family thanks again great video God Bless...
I had a friend install a water pump in my 2009 Toyota Corolla, it still squeaks when I start it also it's beginning to run hot. Please help Great video once again👍
Tight bolts in the order he showed. Mine did the same thing. Pull the alternator back far as you can. Screw the adjustment screw in until it's tight. Then tighten bottom alternator screw
That was explained clearly ! Thanks good video ... Can I torque the pump bolts with a torque wrench for like valve covers the one with a pin in the center ? I don't have a big torque wrench
Before undoing the Alternator measure the threads on the bolt, when you put it back you can use your measurement to get it pretty close to perfect quickly.
No need to measure. Just before unbolting. Use a sharpie. Mark the thread and bolt of its location. You can double check the mark by marking the right side bracket that meets the metal rail. After that, when you reinstall, have the bracket slide up and line up to the old marks you made.
I have a question, 2009 Toyota Corolla Alternator, is there a deference in the Alternator if the car is built in Japan or North America. Thank you, Don
2009 toyota corolla, that is crazzzzy, I have a 1998 toyota corolla with 221k milles. Original water pump, no noise and no leaks. Parts now days are a joke. No quality behind.
Cesar Orozco my 2010 Corolla has 222k miles. Just 1k over yours and I started getting this noise. I mean... 222k is pretty damn good without any problems until now, imo.
if you spend another 15 minutes remove alternator out then you can do much easier ,that is what I do-it took me 30 minutes complete the job, instead 2 hours.
Go directly to the 18 minute mark and see orange rad fluid coming out. NEVER Put dex cool in a toyota. "or any car" This is why the pump went bad. The Canadian owners manual also says, Burning a quart of oil every 600 miles is normal. When buying a Toyota, pull the rad cap. If fluid is not pink, without a strange essence of orange. (some one added some orange) do not buy it.
I've got a 2009 vibe I changed my coolant. My manual said to use gm dexcool which is more orange but the stuff I drained was the pink stuff like in your video. I put in orange dexcol but now I'm worried that i should have used Toyota pink because it is a corolla engine in all the vibes. Could this shorten the life of my water pump?
You need to get that DexCool out of that engine. The owners manual is wrong on this car. Get yourself 2 gallons of Toyota Super Long Life 50/50 and do a complete purge. or take it to a Toyota dealer and have them do it.
Get that Dex-cool/Dexkill flushed out of your engine asap. And make sure it's completely out before refilling it with Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (Pink Stuff) because Dexcool has been known to gel up when mixed with different types blocking up the passage ways in the engine. I have a 2010 vibe too and had a guy at autozone tell me that "GM" car requires Dexron VI transmission fluid when it's a Toyota transmission and says use Toyota WS fluid. Luckily I ignored him. Better off ignoring the Vibe GM owners manual and pick up a Matrix owners manual to get more accurate info on Fluid recommendations.
In the end you say the fan belt is squealing and needs to be tightened more. This car has electric fans. You mean the serpentine or drive belt needs to be tightened more.
At last a Video with a good camera operator who is not shaking all over the place,1st class.
I felt like i was just hanging out with a good friend. Youre a good man thanks!!

Michael Nicholson haha what. Gas mileage has nothing to do with a water pump

Thank you so much to both of you. Y'all made it very clear and concise. I got mine done and saved about 600$+. Legends

Vagus I have a 2010 Matrix 1.8L and need to do this. How did you drain the coolant?
Excellent how to, one of the best I've seen for any job on youtube!
Excellent instructor, best camera man by far.
That nose whistle though
Did this as I followed you step by step.......thanks! Very well done, easy to follow .....you the man!
This is a true car pro at work. Watch him and learn.

Your welcome
Justin had a boogie in his nose, that thing was whistlin.
Meticulous is the word you're looking for 😎. I'm not a professional but I share the same character. Great video!! Thank you
Excellent video to follow. Thank you for taking the time to do this. Truly helpful!👍
Hello, the link you gave for the water pump it’s says doesn’t fit on 2009 toyota corolla at amazon.
Great video. The cameraman breathing was killing me.😂
Funny thing, the breathing everyone refers to is actually a ram fan pointed at us from the office 3 ft away. Kind of like talking on your cell phone while driving with the windows down
What's torque wrench you use in this video? Where you bought it?
Thanks
Good video detailed and informative didn’t leave anything out great video

Thankfully we have a great, informative video! Thanks Pauly Peka
This is wonderful! Thank you very much for the thorough explanation!!!
Thanks for the vid! I would highly recommend: Changing the belt...drain/fill the coolant...buy an OEM water pump...mark the bolt positions..yikes!
How many hours does this job take?
Great video I have already ordered a new pump for my 2011 corolla.
mine is leaking so is going to be replace
thanks for good video
Very nice video. Helped me a lot. Thanks for the detailed look at how this is done.
Don't forget to mention that, if you disconnect the neg terminal of the battery, be sure you have access to the restoration code for the radio / stereo head unit.
Thank you for this vid my customer is waiting for me to change his now I have the knowledge! 😎💪🏽
Thank you for the video, it was very helpful.

Need 1 or 2 gallon coolant ?
Very informational and good visual thank you.
Hey Ron, do you adjust or touch the cam timing When changing the pump? I haven’t finished the video yet but that’s what I’m here trying to make sure if we do or not
Cool light on the hood lighting your work area on the engine. Where did you get it? Thanks
Its made by Saber. it was in the shop when I rented it.
Good.
Is it easier to change the gasket with the alternator off
Great video rob very informative and you did an excellent job with your explanations I just had a friend install a water pump in my Toyota I still hear squealing noises why is that ron? Well be safe you and your family thanks again great video God Bless...
Most likely it is the belt tension that makes the noise. Have your friend tighten the belt properly.
I had a friend install a water pump in my 2009 Toyota Corolla, it still squeaks when I start it also it's beginning to run hot. Please help Great video once again👍

Why did you not take the alternator off and get it out of your way?
THANK YOU very much for your time !! :)

I have a question, 2009 Toyota Corolla Alternator, is there a deference in the Alternator if the car is built in Japan or North America. Thank you, Don
It can but check with your local parts house. They should be able to answer that question
@@SandCarServices I appreciate you getting back to me, I will check on the alternator, what about the water pump.
I was wondering were did you get the Self purging tool, do you have a model number for it.
Thank you, Don
I got it off my tool truck. But they should be pretty easy to get online.
I hope to hear this sound of noise before opening the pump. Thank you
Will this procedure work similarly on a 2014 Corolla?
I'm not sure. Sorry.
Ron Williams thanks. How often do you advise changing the water pump on a corolla?
2009 toyota corolla, that is crazzzzy, I have a 1998 toyota corolla with 221k milles. Original water pump, no noise and no leaks. Parts now days are a joke. No quality behind.

Mine 202k there is a noise no sure it is water pump..no liking..😁
Very good know how thank you sir
Great Video thank you
thank you! needed this, and you explained it perfectly.
if you spend another 15 minutes remove alternator out then you can do much easier ,that is what I do-it took me 30 minutes complete the job, instead 2 hours.
what brand alternator do you recommend?
Denso, or dealer
how about if you get off all the bolts and the pump is still “””glued””” “down” to the engine
great Video !!
How many miles did this toyota have on it

How many miles or kilometers does that car have on it. I
Would not taking out alternator make it way easier?
I thought the same thing. Probably could have saved 10-15 minutes in the long run. Even so, great video!
Yes, it would be. Just 2 bolts. You may need to take the bracket off too, just 1 more bolt.
How different would a 2013 Corolla be?
Same
I've got a 2009 vibe I changed my coolant. My manual said to use gm dexcool which is more orange but the stuff I drained was the pink stuff like in your video. GREAT VIDEO. ESPECIALLY ALL THOSE DETAILS THAT MEAN SUCCESS OR FAILURE THANKS
Fan belt?
Same shit.. Americaa
It doesn’t operate the fan. It has very little to deal with the fan. The fans are electric so nah. It’s not the same thing at all
O 2009 nos EUA é o mesmo motor do Corolla 2012 ou superior no Brasil.
In the end you say the fan belt is squealing and needs to be tightened more. This car has electric fans. You mean the serpentine or drive belt needs to be tightened more.
Turn ON the heater full blast to circulate coolant into Heat Core

Too much work
