Beautiful area and lovely video, I love it around there, I'm also an artist and that area has very strong links with the history of Welsh landscape painting, the artists Augustus John and James Dickson Innes stayed there for 3 years (not in the Bothy but nearby) and painted a series of images which made them known as the Welsh Impressionists, there was an excellent documentary about them called 'The Mountain That Had to Be Painted'. The other bigger lake (Llyn) down by the road is also the location of the controversial Tryweryn flooding which is still alluded to today with the painted slogans you'll see in the area saying Cofiwch Dryweryn (Remember Tryweryn) where the residents of a village were forcibly evicted so the valley could be flooded to make the reservoir to supply Liverpool with water.
“Approaching the bothy you see signs of occupation. You open the door, a character sitting by the fire says ‘Hi, there’s a brew on, where’s your mugs?’ Warm welcome, clean and tidy bothy; it’s going to be even better than you thought. Thankfully, we aren’t faced with the opposite scenario: bothy trashed and full of rubbish and/or folk in residence who think it’s a matter of ‘first comers have the bothy” From Mountain Bothy Association ‘Using a Bothy’
This is beautiful. The best way to use a common place shelter. Clean after, leave items. For the next person. Stunning area. Thanks for sharing. Love the sheep❤
stayed here recently was bloody pitch black, 50mph winds and raining was glad to see the bothy when we done the walk soon got the fire up and a big fat joint happy days
Now then mate, its good to see a fellow veteran making outdoors videos on TH-cam, brilliant location to be exploring, that bothy looked like a 5 star hotel compared to being in a basha, just subscribed to your channel mate, Ta Stu.
Top content, mate. Bothys are ace, I recently stayed at a bothy in the Brecon Beacons (video on my channel under Crooked Churches and Harsh Mountain Weather). It was right next to a reservoir and had the soothing sound of the stream all night long. It was a tiny bothy and there was already an American dude in there when I arrived. We got along well, shared stories, and chilled.
Lovely video my friend you a kind person obviously your are good people that reflects onto u remember kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see 😊
Hello Jake & Becky, Great video. If youever head up here to Bonnie Scotland they will be a warm welcome in the glens for you both. Love and light to you both, keep smiling. Paul.
It was soooo funny when the sheep were just stood there outside the bothy. Totally hilarious and awesome content. Hopefully you slammed in your lamb during the night 😂
Did you say the bothy is cute and portable 😂. It is sweet, but not portable dude, well I suppose brick by brick you could but, that ain't happening 😂😂😂. Awesome vid dudes.
@8:50... that snap never works man. No idea if I have a faulty inflatable raft or what... or my snap is not that powerful, but it never works for me. I have to do it the primitive way. use a pump.
wow looks sound there jake oh have you got a link for the raft i would like to get one of them for when we go leisure lakes on a wild camp and it has a big lake there and a island on it so it would be good having one of them
Wasn't you nicking the marker posts from the SST was it? 🤣 I laugh but if you haven't heard be careful as they have been going missing, some weird people out there. Got to love the oh look, he's bought his mates comment on that sheep, classic Becky. Enjoy the SST.
It's Bwthyn, but to be fair I'm a local wild camper and we still say Bothy here in relation to a shelter for common use, Bwthyn just means any small cottage, a bwthyn can be someone's permanent private residence in Wales, whereas Bothy always denotes a residence maintained for common usage.
i hate to make a negative comment but there is so many people now using bothys as free holiday stays that if some hikers were actually caught out and needed shelter they have to bunk in with you guys. these places should only be used for rest and only be slept in as emergencies
It’s bothy culture to expect to be sharing. I brought my tent incase it was rammed, as did Becky. It’s always a shame when people don’t respect bothy culture though & leave a mess.
@@JakesJourneyMate you're right it is. im just worried with the amount of it on youtube nowadays that too many people will start using them and ruin them
I was moored up in the middle of nowhere on my own when I heard three massive bangs on the boat like someone trying to wake me up. Then again. I sht myself and shouted loud get the fking knife. I went out to find no one and nothing so back inside for a big torch. There was a deer swimming away. I'm guessing it fell in between my boat and bank. Sadly a fisherman said he saw it drown down near the lock. Still feel bad not trying to get it out but on my own I'd have failed
