    A full review of the citi trifecta and why it's the least talked about credit card trifecta. I go over the pros and cons of this credit card setup and give my reasons of why you should not get the citi trifecta.

    In this video I give an in depth review of the citi trifecta. This trifecta consist of the citi double cash card, the citi custom card and the citi premier. The citi prestige card is no longer accepting new applicants. I go over the pros and cons of each of these cards and compare them to the capital one duo (venture or venture x and savor or savor one), the chase trifecta (chase sapphire preferred, ink preferred or the sapphire reserve, the freedom unlimited and freedom flex) and the amex trifecta, which consist of the amex gold card, the business blue plus and the american express platinum. Out of all of the setups, this is probably the worst one.

    Are you using the Citi Trifecta in 2024? Do you think Citi will introduce a premium card this year?

      Nope. I do have one citi card, and am banking a small number of points earned on a few citi merchant offer purchases here and there. I will be waiting for a better signup bonus on the Citi Preferred or any new premium card offering that might surface.

    • @John_Cannon
      @John_Cannon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Makes sense. I haven’t seen too many new welcome bonuses for the premier, which is another reason why I didn’t get it.

    Most TH-camrs are aspirational travelers so they hate on citi, but the citi QUADfecta is perfect for me. 1:2 Choice Hotels transfer is 🔥. For NYE, I stayed at the Radisson beach resort in Miami which was 12,500 citi pts. The cash value of that room was $700 that day! In Feb I’m staying 2nights at their Orlando resort for 25,000 citi pts when the cash value is $500-580.

    • @John_Cannon
      @John_Cannon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Nice. Those are some amazing redemptions. My issues are with the lack of protections and insurances, which is why I added the Sapphire preferred. Definitely a good set up , but a few key things are missing. Enjoy the Orlando trip, that's great value.

    I disagree, the Citi Double Cash and Citi Premier are a good combo, I've done the math and I rack up a lot more points with Citi than with Chase.
    Plus, Citi allows for transfers to Virgin Atlantic, allowing me to book Delta flights with Virgin points; which, when available, are 2-3 times cheaper than booking directly with Delta points.
    If anything, adding an AmEx Platinum to that combo is the way to go for all the travel and purchase protections. Nothing like getting into the Delta lounge with your AmEx Platinum with a Delta ticket that you used Virgin points to book. 😎

      I like it. Delta is my favorite airline. I didn’t even think of adding the platinum card to the mix. Good stuff

      @DugrozReports 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's worth noting that everyone transfers to Virgin Atlantic (Amex, Cap1, Chase, Bilt), so there's nothing unique there. It's a good setup if you only want one ecosystem, but if you're playing the field ... seems like there's nothing special. Just my 2 cents. 😀

    The Citi combo is underrated. There are many aspirational redemptions possible with Citi partners. Qatar avios can be used on BA, Iberia, and Qsuites. Air France can be a steal in economy and greet for business class. Virgin Atlantic can be used to fly Delta one. As for hotels, choice can be a great value transferring 1:2 ratio from Citi

    • @John_Cannon

    Citi is cool, especially if these are the only cards you use. I never understood the 1% at the purchase and 1% after you pay with the double cash and the $25 max cash back per quarter with the custom cash. But the Premier is a nice. Thanks John. Another good one

    • @John_Cannon
      @John_Cannon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sledge, appreciate you. I know that custom cash isn't really worth it in my opinion, 5% sounds good, until you realize it's only worth $25. I do like the premier, but I can do without it.

    A good use I found for a Citi card is to book an Airbnb in the USA, and do the split 50-50 payment to get 5% cashback on a $1000 booking using the no annual fee Custom Cash.
    Pretty hard to get 5% on Airbnb, but Citi Custom Cash pulls it off.

    I travel to 4 continents every year...Amex is worthless overseas, as are Chase Freedoms. Citi Premier's 3X categories are the best while outside the US. I use the 5% Custom Cash for restaurants in the US. I have 3 duos...CSP for flights and car rentals, Ritz for Priority Pass, AX Gold for US food + BBP for 2% everything...in addition to Citi.

    You compared the Custom Cash card to the Freedom Flex. But you neglected to mention that the main benefit of the Custom Cash card, compared to the Flex, is that it's a year round card, not a quarterly benefit like the Flex.

    Love Citi cards and agree that Citi should bring a premium travel card with travel protections. I do like the Citi Premier $10k purchase protection and 24 month extended warranty. For the taxes and fees I use other card once I transfer the points to get the protections (AMEX Platinum). To be honest I prefer the Citi trifecta over the Chase trifecta. Chase overlaps too many multipliers, no gas and no real grocery cat. Great overview and video John🫵

    • @John_Cannon
      @John_Cannon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @DugrozReports
      @DugrozReports 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Cesar -- I thought that to get the Amex Platinum's travel protections, you had to pay for the entire ticket with the card. Is that not correct? (I'm not 100% sure how it works on all points bookings). Thanks!

    I think Citi will be beat down by Wells Fargo this year. Wells stepped their game up enough. Can transfer to Hyatt and Choice. And their choice hotel card gets better multipliers to compete with Citi's 95 annual fee premier to get 1:2 transfers to Choice. I might want to pickup an AA card from Citi one day, that's about it.
