I’ve had a lot of people ask how to use the E-Leveler with an Autolevel machine. This video answered that question.

The way I've been doing it for a while is I use the Bed Level Visualizer plugin for octoprint. After homing all axes, I initialize autoleveling with the plugin, then I get a 3D visualization of the height of each probing point. The plugin also tells you how much you need to turn each knob to get it level. After 2 times, it's usually perfectly level

    • @stuartpearson398
      @stuartpearson398 ปีที่แล้ว

I level it using a similar method, I did use the visualiser method through OctoPrint but realised I wasn't using any of its other features and tying up a Raspberry Pi I could use elsewhere. I have as as an alternative created a standalone app that displays the measurements from the bed level sensor points similar to the info on the colour lcd screen on a Neo V2.

    Thanks.
    Advice worked a treat!
Using Ender 3 Neo in the UK.
Aside from some slightly different menus, the overall advice and instructions worked great. I purposely tried a manual bed level, with then an auto level only. The E-leveller would have been a nice luxury for the manual levelling, but I didn't mind a bit of back and forth, I spent perhaps an extra couple of minutes per knob.
The result was a birds nest.
Once I added in the step to calibrate the Z offset, prints worked first great.
    Thanks for sharing.

You're missing a step. If you have set your E-steps, you just lost that setting when you reset the printer to factory settings, so make a note of your E-steps first and enter it again before you save the new configuration.

I trying to use your leveling tool and having a problem using it.
I have set my Z height to o.2mm and manual leveling.
Place the lever next to the nozzle and move the nozzle up with the built in move button, that’s too high to use the leveler.
Press the down move button and that’s too low to move the leveler.
Is there a way to move the z to the proper height to be able to use the leveler ?

As a newcomer to the world of 3D printing with an Ender Neo V1 is there a valid reason why it's not better to manually adjust the bed based on the values from the automatic bed levelling. Its measurements at the sensing points will be more accurate that trying to work out if a piece of paper has the same level of friction across the bed. This is the method I use, reading the measurement from the G29 command. I have now created an app to quickly display the levels in a easy to understand graphical format as the V1 does not display the mesh on the lcd.

    • @FilamentFriday

Have to ask, but couldn’t you use the e-leveler instead of paper to set Z offset?
After home, you know that Z=0 is the probe trigger point. If you measure the thickness of the e-leveler and position the nozzle at the home position then bring it down to trigger the leveler, you then know the nozzle height above 0. Wouldn’t calculating the Z-offset then be a simple calculation?
I’d much rather use something with an LED indicator than using paper or a feeler gauge. Using a feeler gauge lets you set Z-offset regardless of feeler thickness with a little calculation? Why would the e-leveler not be the same?

I don't like the idea of disabling the motors and moving the machine hand.
It's way too easy to accidentally move the z-axis. If you move it even a tiny bit, now your leveling is off.
I always leave the motors engaged and use g-code to drive the head to the 4 corners for leveling.

    • @FilamentFriday

You could also move the nozzle through the x,y motion menu.

I will have to buy one of those. Although I actually skip using the auto leveling sensors on my printers that have them all together. I have never had much luck with them for some reason. I usually just level the bed via the four corners and be done with it. That has always given me the best leveling.
Although I do have three machines that actually run a auto z axis leveling for the x gantry before I check each corner. Two run the gantry to the top stop blocks at the top of the machine while one Idex from Tenlog has two switches at the bottom. They are basically my machines with dual z axis motors.
For all my printers I usually just set all four corners then tend to leave it alone for a while and only recheck them every other week or so. I also switched from springs to those silicone cushion spacers.
    But
I can definitely see the value in your leveler and want to try it out. Maybe it'd make me have better luck with the auto leveling sensors. 😁

The auto-leveler on the Ender 3 s1 pro is crap. When I use it I'm never level, when I just manually level and leave it there, it's perfect.

It is happening with my ender neo too, I'm finding my own manual leveling to be way more reliable than whatever mesh the machine is generating thinking that is so clever. That, or I'm missing something, but I save settings. I don't use the G29 line in code because I give for granted that the machine will keep using the last mesh generated (and auto leveling every print shouldn't be necessary) ... But I heard there is a 410 command (or something like that... Maybe 401?), that tells the printer to use the last generated mesh. But if really needed, then why the creality slicer doesn't come with such line as default for the 3d neo?

The S1 has some issues with the crtouch, realistically you'd need a 0Y offset mod and loosen the 4 bolts that hold the y extrusion a bit.
The y extrusion comes over torqued

    • @CindyL4261

This part is separate from the printer’s computer settings & firmware and no numbers need to be entered. Although he does provide a gcode that will automatically move your nozzle to all 4 corners, I never use it because I’m too slow.
This is simply a way to make sure the spring adjustments underneath are all tightened or loosened so that all 4 corners keep the table perfectly level. I think of it as leveling the legs on a table. You want them all to be the same height. But if your floor is uneven, you might need to shim one or 2 to keep the table level. In this case, you adjust zed height and turn the wheels underneath until the light on the leveler turns on. The leveler would be directly under the nozzle. So the first one I just look and see what the zed height is when the light goes on. The next corner I will do the same thing. But when the light goes on? It should be the same number as the first. If not, you turn the spring wheel to the right(down) or left (up) until it registers the same number as the first one, and then keep going around until all 4 corners turn the light on at the same Zed number.
The auto-leveler (bl touch/cr touch) is part 2 and you can think of it as the tabletop. Now that you have the legs dialed in (via manual spring adjustments in all 4 corners) now the auto leveler makes sure you don’t have a warped table top. If you have it checking a 3x3 grid (or more) it will measure and record any slight differences along the flat surface of the table top (print bed)surface in case it’s slightly warped. Then make sure you save its results to the EEPROM. If you just check the tabletop without first checking the table legs, there’s only so much the auto-leveler can compensate for. After you do this a few times? It’s a piece of cake. I check the springs settings anytime I move the machine, change my nozzle, etc. Then after those 2 steps, reset your Z offset to zero, save settings again, and then recheck your Z-offset. Enter that number in, save again, and you are good to go.

Have you considered CHEP was useful to you because the subject matter was, and still is, geared toward beginners? Not meaning to give you a hard time but, as a beginner myself since Christmas, thx to CHEP I’ve been able to put my Ender 3 together and learn an incredible amount of knowledge, over a relatively short amt of time. Some of the more advanced videos made me want to throw my printer out the window.
Also, technology changes and some of these repeat videos incorporate important changes compared to past episodes. Maybe you might consider yourself a “graduate”of CHEP’s instruction. You’ve obtained advanced knowledge and now have the ability to hang out with the advanced coding GitHub crowd.
