Been using broad targeting over the last 6 months now even for niche businesses.
It has outperformed every audience that we had before even the lookalikes.
There is one key thing that makes this work.
Your creative and ad copy should be really in point cause now the creative is the targeting.

hi ben, would you recommend to separate a campaign for the broad targeting or to put it with the interest targeting ad set with in the same campaign?
most likely facebook is going to spend more to the broad targeting, would you recommend to set a spend limit to control the cost from your experience?
    thanks!

  • @backinajiffy1

Facebook has been moving this direction for a loooooong time now. They had to make their broad targeting better.... because they've removed so many of the targeting options from advertisers.
Its good to see that it finally works, but also makes me a little nervous because of how much control they take from the advertiser. All ad platforms seem to be doing this.

    • @BenHeath

Broad has been working amazingly for my clients. But only Top of the Funnel.
If you do leadgen in USA don’t use broad targeting. A lot of people take time out of their day to fill out the form with bs information.
It does work in Belgium. I get quality leads for 1.5€

My audience are really small, and I seem to have issues targeting them.
    Let me explain.
I am running an Ad currently, my target are online Bag sellers, ladies who sell bags online……
I have tried looking for keywords under this to get them, but it’s not all that enough to give Facebook enough information to get these prospects……
My question is, “How do I find keywords to target a particular group of people on Facebook?”

Will it work for open targeting also? Or open targeting works only on ads account with good spend history?

What should I do if I don’t have enough data to create a look-alike audience?
I am running a direct sale campaign for a $28 book with upsell‘s.
I have my warm audience adset set up along with three individual interest adsets.
I will use the interest adsets first And then I will turn on the look-alike audiences adsets as soon as I have enough data.
    Is this correct?

I can say this as former "Marketing Expert" 😉 I can also see this with my actual niche now Job Ads. broad is giving me sometimes really fasicnating results but it takes longer then interests which are still extremly valuable at least for me its pretty intresting to have to work with the limitations of the special Ads category.

Hey Ben! I have started watching your videos lately and they are very helpful. But one thing I wanna ask here is that here in Pakistan we are faced with an audience who are not very tech-literate. They would randomly click on an ad & text them or fill out the form without needing that specific product or service. I have tried multiple ways and targeting to filter these guys out but somehow Facebook ends up showing ads to such people. How to tackle this? I mean I'm kinda stuck because of such people because of these guys the ad spent soars.

I got 10 sales few days ago, but just one today, everything seems to slow down straight away on my campaigns, it was really nice weather outside but maybe i will try broader audience and use auto placements instead of manual... i didnt get the ad fatigue message but do you think it might have have fatigued anyway due to manual placments? i didnt think the learning phase would vary this much each day... it is just a nice image ad but has over 2k likes, and 200 comments so not sure whats going on :( and i use 5-8 day shipping times so i dont bring us advertisers down!

So question, does your ad account history play a factor in your ads? I have 2 separate ad accounts for the 2 regions our local businesses service. 1 has been around for over 8 years while the second one for our newest location has been around for only 2 years. Would the longer standing account be more valuable in terms of broad audience targeting than my newest ad account? If so, I may want to test running ass for my new business in my original account that had much more history and data. 🤔 Thoughts on this?

Hi Ben, love all your content. Just something to watch out for. I've run open targeting for a while now (because it proved better when tested) and just recently ran some small budget tests. The test was single ad in each open target adset. After about 7 days I had warning from facebook about ad fatigue! Not a warning I had seen before and no way on a £20/day budget would I get through the UK in a week. I ignored and let it run (other ads picked up the same warning after slightly longer periods) and results have been OK. I think it must be to do with the way fb looks at the potential audience then takes a segment to advertise to for the next few days.

    • @BenHeath
      @BenHeath  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That’s a good question but there’s actually quite a difference. Targeting expansion only turns on if Facebook is confident you will get better results from doing so. I believe it occurs in about 40% of cases. That’s quite different to starting with everyone included

Open targeting works so well now for all the reasons you have said. I implemented this and it works great. What you call "broad appeal" product/ service, I usually regard as "low friction product" meaning most people don't have much problem understand and decide to buy them. for example, a 50 USD hoodie is easy to sell, but to sell a 99 USD hoodie is another story. Just my personal experience.

Something I have found with this broad targeting, was the out of area leads that cam through.
The UK based organisation I work for sells and installs Solar PV in the midlands.
When I created this type of campaign, I got a lot of leads that we simply couldn't convert, as we didn't cover those areas.
People that were over 3 hours away, as an example.

they always work, where they dont work is people dont setup server side tracking properly. if you do not have server side tracking dont bother. if you do and know how to use it. set ALL your key actions on site as one particular built in goal such as contact or what ever. then set your broad campaigns to use that as an indicator of a "conversion" driver. That way any key action taken will help facebook sniff out more users and end up building a blueprint you cannot see but facebook can of high engagement users.
dont forget to then go through and create additional goals properly such as lead, purchase, sale, add to cart etc. Some will now be double ups. The 1 that they all share is to drive the campaign as an indicator and the others will be for reporting.

Did not work for me. I have tried this Multiple times. While CPMs, CPCs are lower, it just eats up my budget and does not send me converting customers.
2 Reasons I can think of for this are :
    1) I Run Low Budget Campaigns. 20-30usd per campaign with 3-4 Adsets.
    2) It does not work well in India or for my Niche.
Some one below suggested to try it in smaller Areas like 1 City. So I think I will try that soon. 🙂
