From other videos I understood that we want to isolate variables to see which one performs better and by putting all custom audiences into one ad set we can't really know which one is performing well and which one we should discard. Also, should we include detailed targeting in an adset that has custom audiences? Thanks!
Thanks a lot and great question. We do it that because we need to know the results each cold audience can produce by itself so that we can choose which ones to advertise to. We don't need to do that with the warm audiences because they always perform better and we're going to be advertising to them anyway.

Doesn't that limit who from your audiences will see your add? Meaning only people from the UK that are included in your audiences will see this add? Hi. Yes, it does update. That means when you select 365 days or any range, each day that pass you will lose the audience of the previous day but it will update with current day. Hope it makes sense
Hi Lukas, Pixel based and on Facebook source custom audiences do update themselves automatically. Uploaded lists usually need to be updating periodically.

One thing I don't see addressed is that once you make your custom audience, how long does it take for that audience to populate the size of that audience? Hey Ben, great content and love your videos. Just one quick question. If we look at example at 7:00, how can you be so sure that Facebook knows and shows ads to people who viewed your page more recently. I tested that a month ago with 2 different audiences, one set on 30 days and one to 180 and at the beggining 30 days worked much better, but eventually drop off because of high frequency, which means that 180 days had probably also shown to people who visited page way back.
Thanks a lot :) Facebook won't exclusively show your ads to the most recent visitors but they will get priority. This sort of thing is Facebook ads optimization 101 - Facebook has had that functionality for ages now. You can often see it best as a user - if you visit other people's websites - you'll get a lot more retargeting ads within the first 1 or 2 days.

Just another question regarding this, I uploaded an audience list to target and that's the only ones I would like to target in this campaign, but as you can see besides the section adding custom audiences, there are other selections below(locations, age, gender) to add audiences, once those are selected, it's adding up more target size on top of my custom audience, is there any way that I can only target selected custom audience lists? Hi Ben! Regarding the issue with the iPhone, wouldn't the Facebook API Conversion Server implementation solve the problem? So, you don't rely on Meta Pixel (and browser only)? Thanks so much!
About the CA with website/Pixel - what is if i have 2 domains but same pixel id? I need a CA from my second website but i feel like it doesn't get the data from my second website even that the pixel works.
Facebook has a stupid bug where: you can't add the personal ad account to the business account when the business already has 1 ad account. They don't let you delete an inactive ad account. If you have two business accounts with an existing ad account... you can't add a personal ad account. Meaning you have to "wait several weeks" to become eligible for custom audiences.

Do you recommend starting with 1 ABO ( to test interest ad sets on an equal budget , whilst testing the usual 4 different creatives that you suggest copy pasted into each of the ad sets ) And then doing a CBO ( when we actually have some data on the ad account to make some Lookalikes & when we actually know our best interests for ad sets ? Or do we still just always do 1 main CBO campaign and go through all the bread and butter , testing into cold into warm audiences in that same campaign? Hi Ben, great vid as always! I'm marketing multiple products from multiple suppliers on my site. If a customer clicks on an ad for product X, but ends up browsing the site and buying product Y, is that sale attributed to the ad for product X? If so, this would obviously be giving Facebook incorrect data about the type of person that buys product X. If this is the case, is there a way to fix this - by creating sub domains for each supplier for example? Also, not sure how iOS14 affects this...
Great question and yes you are right - the attribution is to the ad they interacted with. This isn't something I would worry about. The percentage of people that do that is relatively small and Facebook is putting together a picture of who buys from your store as well who buys each individual product.
How to create new audiences for brand new business, where people don't have already interacting audiences. The ad manager does not allow less than 17 km radius.

Hey Ben, thanks for all the knowledge. Much Love from Nigeria. I used a lookalike audience which was formed from a Customer list on my adset today and I noticed that the performance is very low and slow, it has not spent 20% of the Ad Budget so far. What could be wrong?
It sounds like you are judging the performance of that lookalike way too early. I’d give it at least 7 days. You have to remember there is a reporting delay in Facebook now

I have a question for ya regarding creating a custom video view audience (I also posted this in your mastermind group but haven't received an answer) - So I've been running a conversion campaign for 10 days now using 2 ad creatives which are both 15 second videos. I have received 5,000+ 75% viewers and want to retarget them now (along with 95% and thru plays), but when I go to create this audience it's showing that I only have a few hundred viewers? And that's at 3 seconds as well? The only reason for this happening that I can think of is that it's showing feed views and not story views (where the majority of my impressions come from)? How do I modify the characteristics of the audience, a special target on Skyline, to record the data of the audiences watching the video during the testing phase, with 25% and 75% views, and I save them so that I can exclude them to escape from being retargeted on Skyline.

Hi Branko, I prefer to keep lookalikes separate because I want to know how each performs and then focus on the best performers. I don't need to do that with custom audiences because I know they will outperform cold audiences, therefore I can lump them all together and increase that audience size.
Does Meta only pull data from your website from the time you install Pixel onward? I don't currently have it installed on my website, so if I installed it today, would I only get audience date from today on or would it be able to pull info retroactively? Thanks!

How long after running cold audience traffic to my site with fb ads should I start running my retargeting campaigns of people who visited my site. How many websites visits would you say? And should i keep running the cold audience ads alongside the warm ads so that people who visit my site from the cold are automatically put into my retargeting. So it becomes like a 360 funnel ?
I usually start my retargeting ad sets at the same time as the cold audience ad sets. Facebook simply won't run the ads in that ad set until you have enough people in there. There's no advantage to waiting.

This was a great video, but I'm advertising for the first time on Facebook and have no data (I do have my pixel installed, but no data on it). I have very detailed interest data from my customer (besides demographic, I have books, movies, websites, brands, people they admire, and so on) but I don't know how to do my first audience as I have no significant data. Is there any way I can design an audience from that data?

Hey Ben, great content and love your videos. Just one quick question. If we look at example at 7:00, how can you be so sure that Facebook knows and shows ads to people who viewed your page more recently. I tested that a month ago with 2 different audiences, one set on 30 days and one to 180 and at the beggining 30 days worked much better, but eventually drop off because of high frequency, which means that 180 days had probably also shown to people who visited page way back.

Facebook won't exclusively show your ads to the most recent visitors but they will get priority. This sort of thing is Facebook ads optimization 101 - Facebook has had that functionality for ages now. You can often see it best as a user - if you visit other people's websites - you'll get a lot more retargeting ads within the first 1 or 2 days.
Do i need to keep recreating a website audience as i keep running ads or does it keep retargeting new audience from my general fb ad campaign?

Just another question regarding this, I uploaded an audience list to target and that's the only ones I would like to target in this campaign, but as you can see besides the section adding custom audiences, there are other selections below(locations, age, gender) to add audiences, once those are selected, it's adding up more target size on top of my custom audience, is there any way that I can only target selected custom audience lists? Hi Ben! Regarding the issue with the iPhone, wouldn't the Facebook API Conversion Server implementation solve the problem? So, you don't rely on Meta Pixel (and browser only)? Thanks so much!
That's a good question. CAPI helps certainly but does not fully fix the issue.

Facebook has a stupid bug where: you can't add the personal ad account to the business account when the business already has 1 ad account. They don't let you delete an inactive ad account. If you have two business accounts with an existing ad account... you can't add a personal ad account. Meaning you have to "wait several weeks" to become eligible for custom audiences.
Hi Ben, thanks for the great video. QQ: for URL contains - if I put several words e.g. picnic rug, cooler bag. Does that mean containers EITHER of these or BOTH of these? I have four separate words and want URLs that contain any of those words, not only URLs that contain all of them.

Hi Ben, great video, thanks a lot! I have a question about the ios 14 update, would it be better to increase audience size, and only target Android users? If I have an audience of 6 million people and choose manual placement, and select only Android users, my audience size is still 2 million, would my data capturing and reporting be better than targeting everyone including ios? I realize I'm missing out on a large portion of the population, but 2 million should be big enough right?
Hi Matt, I do think increasing audience size makes sense but I'm not sure that just targeting Android users is the way to go. You can test it though.

Question, for a brand new e-com 1 product store with 0 ads run. Do you recommend starting with 1 ABO ( to test interest ad sets on an equal budget , whilst testing the usual 4 different creatives that you suggest copy pasted into each of the ad sets )
And then doing a CBO ( when we actually have some data on the ad account to make some Lookalikes & when we actually know our best interests for ad sets ?
Or do we still just always do 1 main CBO campaign and go through all the bread and butter , testing into cold into warm audiences in that same campaign?

With a one product store it shouldn't make any different either way whether you use CBO or ABO. But whatever you start with should be what you plan to stick with. I wouldn't switch from one to the other.

Hi Ben, great vid as always! I'm marketing multiple products from multiple suppliers on my site.
If a customer clicks on an ad for product X, but ends up browsing the site and buying product Y, is that sale attributed to the ad for product X?
If so, this would obviously be giving Facebook incorrect data about the type of person that buys product X. If this is the case, is there a way to fix this - by creating sub domains for each supplier for example? Also, not sure how iOS14 affects this...
Great question and yes you are right - the attribution is to the ad they interacted with.
This isn't something I would worry about. The percentage of people that do that is relatively small and Facebook is putting together a picture of who buys from your store as well who buys each individual product.
How to create new audiences for brand new business, where people don't have already interacting audiences. The ad manager does not allow less than 17 km radius.
Do you have to make different adsets for each custom audience like customer list, website visitors etc.

Hey Ben, thanks for all the knowledge. Much Love from Nigeria. I used a lookalike audience which was formed from a Customer list on my adset today and I noticed that the performance is very low and slow, it has not spent 20% of the Ad Budget so far. What could be wrong?
It sounds like you are judging the performance of that lookalike way too early. I’d give it at least 7 days. You have to remember there is a reporting delay in Facebook now

I have a question for ya regarding creating a custom video view audience (I also posted this in your mastermind group but haven't received an answer) - So I've been running a conversion campaign for 10 days now using 2 ad creatives which are both 15 second videos. I have received 5,000+ 75% viewers and want to retarget them now (along with 95% and thru plays), but when I go to create this audience it's showing that I only have a few hundred viewers? And that's at 3 seconds as well? The only reason for this happening that I can think of is that it's showing feed views and not story views (where the majority of my impressions come from)? Please help if you've got a second. Thanks again man!
Hmmm that's odd. Sounds more like a technical glitch to me. Have you tried in another browser?

How do I modify the characteristics of the audience, a special target on Skyline, to record the data of the audiences watching the video during the testing phase, with 25% and 75% views, and I save them so that I can exclude them to escape from being retargeted on Skyline.

Hi Branko, I prefer to keep lookalikes separate because I want to know how each performs and then focus on the best performers. I don't need to do that with custom audiences because I know they will outperform cold audiences, therefore I can lump them all together and increase that audience size.
Does Meta only pull data from your website from the time you install Pixel onward? I don't currently have it installed on my website, so if I installed it today, would I only get audience date from today on or would it be able to pull info retroactively? Thanks!

How long after running cold audience traffic to my site with fb ads should I start running my retargeting campaigns of people who visited my site. How many websites visits would you say? And should i keep running the cold audience ads alongside the warm ads so that people who visit my site from the cold are automatically put into my retargeting. So it becomes like a 360 funnel ?
I usually start my retargeting ad sets at the same time as the cold audience ad sets. Facebook simply won't run the ads in that ad set until you have enough people in there. There's no advantage to waiting.
